ER10 is $70 here in Western NY. BT is $45. The other day I walked into a small store just to see what they had - they had sh*t and it was all overpriced AF, but the kid behind the counter saw me looking at the bourbon, so he pulled out a hidden bottle of BT and tried to sell it to me for $64.99 LMAO. I'm not a plumber, but that's some sh*t right there.

Eagle rare used to be labeled a Single barrel but when BTD added it to their automated bottling line they removed it from the label due to the small amount of mingling of barrels when they add another barrel to the bottling vat/hopper in the bottling line.

At MSRP it's always a buy. When I first got into Bourbon 7-8 years ago it was my go to buy since having hundreds of other bottles it's just another decent pour. I always have a couple bottles on hand and sip it occasionally. I mainly use it for a gateway pour for newbies now. Plenty of other $30-$40 bottles out there I would rather sip.

My wife and I are fortunate in that we live within reasonable driving distance from BTAC. I have three bottles from different 'barrels' of Eagle Rare in my collection and I can certainly attest that one of the bottles tastes significantly better than the other two. My original bottle was a shelf pick from a local store, cost me $70 at the time and was absolutely delicious. My other two were purchased from the distillery, cost me $45 ea and were similar to the two that came in 2nd and 3rd in this tasting. I have yet to have one that didnt taste like anything like the 4th place bottle. I will continue to drive to the distillery every 90 days to get my allotment of Eagle Rare I like it that much. Love your videos. due to your distance and state difference I find I cannot get some of the assortment you guys can but your videos are entertaining and I love the banter. Keep up the good work.

Most stores in my area sell this for 100 bucks on their little allocated shelf, but one of the stores in my company sells it for 60, but the trade-off is we don't get it in nearly as much as the bigger stores in the area. I don't mind occasionally dropping 60 bucks on this. It's by far not the worst deal for an allocated bourbon. And i do love a brown sugar cherry bomb
@Vortex1988
@Vortex1988 9 месяцев назад
Guys, Eagle Rare is as close to a single barrel without being a single barrel. The only reason they took the single barrel label off of Eagle Rare is because the way their bottling machine works, for Eagle Rare specifically (don't know why they changed this... Maybe just to get more volume out), you may get the end of one barrel and the start of another in a bottle. Most bottles are single barrels, but they can't put it on the label, since the bottling process is now automated.

Found one earlier this year setting on shelf after a delivery without a price marking yet. Took it up to manager/owner who was working the register asked what was he selling it for, looked down his MSRP I think it was mid $40, so I bought it. Still setting on my shelf unopened waiting for what? I don’t know. It’s only the second ER I have seen on a shelf. Hopefully it’s better than just brown water. Great video as usual!

From what I have heard over the years, multiple times, the barrels are dumped individually during bottling, so for the most part, it for all intents and purposes, you are getting juice from one barrel. Of course, the ending of one barrel and the dumping of the next, overlap, but it's not a batch of X amount of barrels dumped into a vat and then bottled.

Your reaction to the Binny's pick (sugar water) was my impression the first time I tried ER. The same bottle tasted so much better on other nights with oak and more complexity, and became my go-to for a while. I've had a similar experience with other bottles as well, but not to such an extreme. For 10 yr bourbon, though, I'm picking up Russell's Reserve before ER. Lots of comments for this one so I hope I don't repeat others. What's not mentioned and certainly the most important fact of this tasting is that the 10 year age statement on the neck is quite an older bottling. It did not surprise me it came out on top. Just another example of the degradation of quality over the years. Recent Barrel pics will not stand up to quality of distillate that was made back in the day. I imagine that the lower entry proof that distilleries are experimenting with will make for a better offering in 5 to 10 years from now. Great video!

$37 about 6-8 times per year at the locals in MT. I buy it every time I have a chance. The bunker is strong right now.

Living in PA. where the state runs the show, we rarely see any bourbon of note. Bottles like Buffalo Trace, Eagle Rare, Blanton's, Stagg etc. are non-existent. Store picks? LOL! Allocated bourbon? Nope. I have to leave the state to find anything noteworthy. Keep up the good work guys. Love the channel.

Re: brown sugar …. Try a piece of toast, spread peanut butter on it, then sprinkle a thick layer of brown sugar on top. Eat it.

Makers, woodford, and Eagle Rare were always my go to bottles at the start of my bourbon adventure. I’ve had several ER store picks over the years… None have ever really stood out or been much better/different than a regular bottle to me. I’d much rather have a 4 roses or makers store pick over these tbh

Brown sugar always get these little clumps that look like it was melted. those are the best part. Them talking about it has brought the flavor note into my mind with a couple of brands that I've had recently.

I personally like Eagle Rare and it was 31.99 a bottle pre pandemic and now if you can find a bottle it's 35.99 here in Michigan at my local store .

Have a store pick bottle of Eagle Rare. It’s excellent stuff. Got it for $50 with the store pick. You can get a regular bottle for $35, if you can get one when they come out

As I move through my bourbon journey, I’m not a fan of single barrels because they are so inconsistent. ER has been some of my favorite bottles. But also some of my least favorite.

I had a couple bottles a decade ago...back then Eagle Rare was all 'single barrels' and '10 year old'. They were quite good for a 30 dollar bottle. I guess they don't have them as single barrels anymore. I also remeber when they went away from teh 10 year age statement but then brought that back.

I paid $70 for a bottle 2 weeks ago here in NJ - it can go as low as $60, but the days of $30 ER are long past. I can think of a few $70 retail bottles that cannot match the ER.

I got a bottle like D before, and actually sent it back to Buffalo Trace for a refund. Their people said the taste still fit the Eagle Rare profile, however I don't see how. It tasted like brown water, or water that had a little bit of ground coffee in it. I haven't bought ER since.

When I go into one of my regular OR stores I always ask if they have gotten and Eagle Rare because it is never on the shelf. And quite often they will go in the back and get me a bottle. I just finished one last night and still have three on the shelf. I don't horde it, I share it. Still selling for $36.95.

Really liked this blind, I can get eagle rare on the shelf and this helped me decide that it's my next bottle, I didn't want to give into the hype but I'm glad there are good bottles out there 🤘

If you can find it for MSRP it's probably the best bottle for the $$ you can find. Most liquor stores here in So Cal will mark it up to around $80, but I've had luck finding it at Total Wine and BevMo for ~$35 (gotta be persistent) to where I always have some on-hand without over-paying.

Last month, October, my wife and I each bought one at Buffalo Trace for $40.00 +tax. We really like ER10. Buffalo Trace normal, is very good. Russell res 10yr is good. MM46 is nice Knob Creek 9, A store up the road had a store pick Eagle Rare 17 year for $2150.I laughed, it may be still there.

Eagle Rare tastes interesting, but it's not really my jam. Having your whiskey taste like grape nerds is fun and all, but I'd much rather have a whiskey with more traditional flavors.
