Is Ebenholz really that bad? I don't think so. He seems like a pretty alright guy. There are much worse people in Terra. Like Kashchey and whoever designed SSS.
Why do people hate SSS? I've beaten both maps 8/8 with only 5 resets on each run. Literally ran atk speed Goldenglow, Thorns, and Mudrock with support Skalter for passive healing / damage and that was basically all I needed for every map. Occasionally needed atk speed Suzuran for slow.
I basically been pulling minimal and saving for Eben since Ling just cause I think his artwork is cool. And I'm glad his story made me love him more. I don't care if he doesn't do any work he just needs to sit on my team and spin his dice.
Smol funny knowledge: in cn people call his summons "hypergraphs" because they look like hypergaph's icon. some people say Ebenholz is planting and exploding hypergraphs as revenge for lore reasons
I want to add something about ebenholz, his y mod has a growing niche for recent bosses who have invulnerability phases as the extra 30 aspd when holding a charge will make him able to fully store charges quicker, it also allows him to gain his charges back much faster if there is a boss approaching his range; in 7-18 ebenholz will waste charges on sarkas guerrilla that paass him but can get max charges back before patriot enters his range
I wouldn't exactly call it a growing niche. Only one boss, due to how his HP triggers work, has multiple untargetable phases that are just long enough to let him charge back to full but not so long as to waste his skill time like most phase transitions do.
How can AK community complain about Surtr/Chalter/Blue Woman but then ALSO COMPLAIN when a new character doesn't rise up to be nearly as OP as them. Eben might be a bit awkward gameplay wise, but he is pretty satisfying to see that big red number. And he's in no way "bad" at his niche just because there are other characters that "do it better" supposedly. I hate people getting so caught up in meta and shit that they throw fun characters under a bus because they don't overperform, yuck
Fr tho. Though I admit that his S2 is a bit underwhelming, considering that leveling at M3 isn't a significant buff, just flat out give a slight percentage buff for his minion bois explode attack. I really want that when it's M3, Ebenholz can summon 2 now instead of 1 without any charges. But despite that, I am having really fun with his S2. Other than that, yes. He is fun to use, especially under right conditions for him to shine. I think I read somewhere before that when he DOES only charge during his S3 and only attack when he fully stacked his charges, He might outdps Surtr especially if the tough enemies have weak art resistances. which honestly, I don't want that. I don't want him to be THAT brain dead. Let our goat boy be more fun with his niches.
@@sherlockoberon_akomi9781 He can outdps the entire game for exactly one second because it's all loaded into that single burst-attack, so I wouldn't really pay it any mind. He won't be a DPS machine like Surtr or Chalter, his kit just isn't made for it, but he has his niche of an instant burst.
Eben underperforms for a 6*. You don't hear complaints about alright but not op 6*s like Dorothy or Gavialter, so your argument is incorrect. Eben is bashed because he just isn't worth the investment in pulls and mats.
I've been watching Yii's videos so long that I can no longer tell if the completely apathetic, dead inside reading of 6:54 is sarcastic, or Yii's actual despair for how HG can only seem to create the extremes of either busted operators, or operators that are gimped so hard people question if they're even worth using in the first place.
As a maleknights player, I think I can be a little more forgiving with him, since my options for burst arts damage are limited. Still gotta work around his kit, but that's what I already do with other ops as well 🤷🏻
Personally I think Ebenholz is going to get better as Hypergryph seems to be trying out other boss designs that move away from the usual just Surtr-it, or using the Blue women. Chapter 11 robot knight boss feels like he was designed to be counted by Ebenholz.
"(X) operator is meta. If it isnt then we can shift the meta !!" Lol, i was so surprised when the boss can leap out of the map (practically untargetable and invincible) while dishing out multi-target nuke for a while, just in time for eben to stack his charges. It was even funnier because that was very effective at disrupting surtr and short duration burst ops. Sadly, the blue woman with shotgun can work just fine against this gimmick.
The real problem is that other ops can basically do much better with lesser efforts and actually kill mobs in the process. Sure he got huge dmg but that's all he got. Yea he designed as boss killer yes, I get it but other "meta" operators also designed to be boss killer but they did much more than kill a boss. People keep talking about chapter 11 boss but that's the only stage designed for him. HG probably gonna create other "meta" ops that have similar kit but easier to use than actually make him good.
@@shiroxkuro934 Well yeah, it was because HG want to create another "boss killer" to sell, but didnt want to create another surtr... Actually, another broken meta ops got released in CN. "Have you ever felt that the 5s charge of surtr helidrop was too long? Or surtr was too long to redeploy? Dont worry, we got you covered!!" Spoiler for those who didnt already know by now, but CN got a limited alter, a fast redeploy, that deal HUGE AOE arts damage on deploy, then AoE arts dmg/second, with a talent "recast the skill, if this unit kill an enemy". Imagine Eyja S2, with bigger area, higher damage, and instant recast. And then Reed alter, a medic who can deal arts damage better than actual caster (excluding the usual good caster) Eben was bound to be bad because of the class he was in. Slow atk, high dp cost, high sp cost, similar to AoE caster with the addition of only doing single target attack on top of having 0 cc, unlike lower rarity mystic caster. What im saying is, eben IS troublesome and clunky but there will still be a place where he is preferred over the usual option. Simply because the stage design benefit his gimmick (like ethan, BP, and aosta in Invitation to wine; aurora in break the ice, etc) or he is funnier to use.
In case anyone else is losing their mind at the awakened memory (or just wants to know where it's from), the song at the very end is the Item C track from Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle.
He essentially has the same problem guard Ch'en has, being overspecialized into short high damage bursts. Except he's significantly less flexible, has no extra utility, nor her ability to bypass boss mechanics via untargetability. Still, he's pretty fun to actually use; trying to find ways to let him charge up to let those big boy numbers pop.
You can use his Y Module on stages without any elites or bosses (or none in his lane specifically) to give Ebenholz a permanent +30 ASPD buff. Obviously not going to be useful on content that is actually challenging or meaningful but I thought it was a fun trick. Another trick that I've done with Iris' S1 which should translate to Ebenholz. Wait until the big enemy gets in range and eats up all her charges, pop her S1 such that she's not targeting anything, fill up on charges in 5 seconds, then hit the big enemy with another full charge. I used this specifically on the dossoles holiday where you're in a boat being chased by enemies. I had iris taking out the very tanky enemies in 2 shots, though that sounds better than it is because it was a 5 second attack interval so the equivalent of 3 shots at her normal attack interval. The nice thing is that this skill can be used like this at SL 1 though you'll have longer between recasts of it.
I liked this event a lot along with its characters. Partially because I’m German and ebens VA is German as well. Even though people say he’s niche, I try to find him a spot in a map where he can use his s2 or s3 to the best of his abilities. Also, Great Video!
if memory serves, he has some bugs with his S1 and his 2nd module that are still present on the CN client, which isn't exactly helping him either his S1, for example, will burn his elite-only charge on regular enemies. makes the 2nd module trait change weaker. the 2nd module talent aoe isn't working properly with multiple attacks either, iirc
Well he is bad, because said specific situations are either the steam knight which was built specifically for him, or dog shit easy bosses like jesselton or the wlfmster Just cuz he has the single highest burst attack in the game doesnt mean he can be good, otherwise Rhampardos would have a niche that isnt over compensating on everything just so Rhampardos can actually hit the enemy with it's monsterous attack Same thing, so much needed set up more than any other operator, because his main thing is boss killing, and most bosses cant be slepted by kafka
So i guess he will be good for IS phantom boss, since he does a round before exiting.....because I got to him on normal mode, and could not kill him....
I dont get the Ebenholz hate honestly. People only look at his S3 but I really enjoy his S2 most of the time. I think its really funny watching enemies getting flung around
Wish the S3 is much more intuitive. I used Indigo and have fun with Iris too, and these two has their own way to build charges. Meanwhile for Eben, you really need to have proper knowledge of the map to maximize his potential and probably a Kafka. Wish his S3 make him to only attack after reaching max charge.
(not)Fun fact about Iris S2. Despite the skill description, iris will do a sleep immunity check first before releasing her nuke. So if an enemy is immune to sleep she wont release her skill on them. I found it the hard way in this event, against the golem. I was so confused and think it was a bug until i drop kafka on it and it fail as well.
I think Ebenholz biggest issue is when he has been released. Anyone F2P or minnow who wasn't lucky on SN will be too busy restocking for Gav-alter to throw resources at getting him. In addition whales with out Chalter will be planning the 300 pulls to pity her. At other time in the schedule he wouldn't be a must get but he would be interesting right now he is at best questionable bait.
I lost all my motivation to play arknights because I pulled for Ebenholz wasting an exponential amount of resources And failing to get him and now adding insult to injury the game decided to give me Ebenholz on the Gavial invincible banner.
Like I said, there is only one way to actually buff Ebemholz and honestly all Mystic casters, and HG missed it with the modules. Its DONT make them attack unless they are full stacked. In eben's case, dont literally make him attack will optimally make his s2 playable which IMO is the best part of his kit. With the inability to attack with full stack, s3 actually will become easier to use. Only s1 would be nerfed with a mod like this
Sorta wish I watched this before pulling on him and promoting him to E1. But oh well. Guess he'll make for a good Perception Information slave for Rosmontis.
I'm well aware of the issues he has but I am still M9ing him because I utterly adore this guy If it requires a bit more brain power to use him I will simply just be smarter
General rule for 6 stars: If they dont have a kill button that requires zero skill OR brain activation, put them in the dumpster. In conclusion, use balans, use dragon, and nothing else
I actually really love the drawings that are used for the thumbnails for each video. Yii, you've ever thought about showing more of the sketches or drawing process?
well ,some of those are from official stickers though. But indeed I believe this one is self made because HG hadn't released Lingering Echoes stickers yet
@@ahlalkubur HG often only release stickers to CN and not somewhere else(Originium Dust, Invitation to Wines,...). So yeah they have already released the Lingering Echoes stickers(by looking at oyuki_gms past tweets), but you have a point that the one in thumbnail is not by HG.
The main problem with him is that we have no way to filter enemies. If there was a Defender who would only block basic enemies, they’d synergize great with him.
@@pixaphy I use him with Lee. But I have to place him a bit far behind him so that Lee can kill off the weak enemies and then Eben can do his goat bombs. It's not that much of an improvement but I am happy my fave two got some synergy
Wait that's a really good idea for a unit defenders that specialises in blocking elite or basic enemies both would be five stars and they would block four due to they niche they talent would reduce the damage from they respective enemy
Ebenholz is the AK equivalent of making a new air-to-air missile by grabbing a modern rocket motor and a modern warhead while deciding to stick the seeker of an AIM-4 Falcon (which entered service in 1956) onto it
On the bright side, CN loves him. Not for meta reasons, but he was the 10th most popular Operator in their last poll. Which proves that some Operators are at least liked because of things other than gameplay. Big examples would be Skadi being in the top 10 before Skalter was even a thing in previous polls. And Dusk being the 8th most popular despite not being too good.
I'm relatively new to Arknights, was only pulling because need more operators, and I got this dude on my first pull on his banner. Now, I get a notification for a video telling me he sucks. My funeral will be on December 31st at 4:00AM EST on Balls Island in Afton, New York. You are all invited.
Even the bad operators can be good! If you have literally *no one else*, he's definitely better than nothing! I had to make do with Matoimaru and Perfurmer back in the day, cuz I didn't know Silverash was actually good, even though I got him really early on lol. But yeah, he's definitely useful if you don't have anyone better! I do suggest you level him up a bit until you get someone else!
Hes not broken but definitely still a 6 stars. I got him for bias reason and was surprised he’s a lot better than what people tend to say about him. hes not trash at all, just don’t expect him to do crazy stuff like blue women and red amnesiac woman (well without the proper set up anyway) Also he does pretty well in a sleep cc team (kafka, sora, blemishine, erato)
Eben isn’t bad at all. This dude can easily one-shot elites and bosses with his 3rd skill. He just requires some brain and set-ups to work perfectly. I pulled specifically for him even if I already had Eyja, Ceobe and “balanced” operators like Surtr or Chalter.
Eh, at least he's not on-release Passenger. An operator so bad that it struggled to kill slugs and dogs, operator so bad that it resulted in class upgrade and entire system of character build called modules.
I wish the devs would add a condition to his s2; if his sp is over half, he stops attacking. I know they can do it since Aurora's talent work similarly = =
not an unfair assessment but i’m surprised you didn’t note ebens slowly growing niche against bosses with untargetable phases which become more and more common as the game goes on.
Inb4 Mystic Casters have a major buff on the level of Chain Casters that makes Ebenholz as busted as Passenger. Even "trait: stores a minimum of one attack before attacking" would instantly fix Ebenholz at least, lmao
@@FelisImpurrator except that would mean they would need to add a new form of upgrade for possibly 100+ chars eventually since Mystic Casters already have 2 Modules
@@sol2296 No. Base trait change to "stores a charge before using it". Chain Casters received a base trait buff ages ago that changed their unupgraded properties. Crusher guards should also get that (something like Damage Reduction or Increased Healing Efficiency as their health gets lower or something to play on their no defense no res thing).
Everyone has at least one unit that isn't great but you absolutely love them for story reasons or the like and you're going to build them no matter what. It took over a year before I ran into that myself and (un)fortunately for me it was Eben. I look forward to actually having to use my brain a little bit though.
For me it's Executor but I was a beginner then and i got him on the Rosmontis banner. I really loved his design but when I first bring him to a map, i was hella dissapointed because of his range and atk speed lol. But now almost a 2 year veteran, i use him in every run including every CC 😆😆
Hehehe Every stage i deploy FLAMEBRINGER and... He sucs ((( Too slow charge speed on passive but if use module + deploy Ch'en and any AOE to charge him passive ... That is great man 😅 only is bad - he blocked 1 enemy (((((
Reminds me of a classic (sadly long since shuttered) humour mag 'round here whose mail-order ads offered things like the "Official Nutcase Certificate" and the "Officially Broke Certificate"... (they also had "Realman T-Shirt", supposedly "shot through with a large-calibre handgun")
Ebenholz, don't listen to them. Now, off you go to the Trading Post. Czerny was just having a chat with Iris. Romonstis, please send Whisperrain to the office while you go to the factory, thank you.
Mystic casters are my favorite archetype despite their flaws. I got Rosa instead on this banner, so this video makes me feel a bit better about missing (though it also makes me want to eventually get and build him more...), I still have a lot of more generally applicable operators to invest in. Thanks for these breakdowns.
honestly? ebenholz is perfectly usable, even if he's not necessarily insanely good by any means. he's mediocre, sure... but everyone should raise some operators that aren't s-tier that they personally like! he's definitely nowhere near as bad as, say, kirara or windflit.
I really enjoy using Ebenholz right now, his skills could be better, but mystic casters are pretty strong in general. I mean... Look at those stats shees! Ebenholz has the most attack of any operator in my account and doesn't even have a module yet, he doesn't even have max trust and he is not even e2 lvl 90 like some of my other operators. Mystic casters are huge stat beasts! Then they stack their basic attack meaning that their downtime turns into a huge blast of arts damage for the next poor soul that enters. Very powerful trait indeed. I also prefer their range focussing on more distance unlike normal ST casters which bring the range next to themselves. The problem is that mystic casters can waste charges on some random trashmob and then have nothing left for the boss behind it. Ebenholz partially fixes this issue by having elite specific charges, but it is only 1 which means the issue is not resolved in the slightest. Then we get to Ebenholz itself, his s2 feels like it actively sabotages itself and the mechanic is pretty wonky with how the mines actually get spawned. His s1 skill duration is way too short and tbh the damage is not that impressive either. This essentially means that his s3 is left, a pure boss killer skill, which is clearly very niche by focussing on bosses only. One issue with using Ebenholz from my experience, is that if you want optimal damage you need to activate his skill right before the boss enters his range, otherwise he blows his load without the extra damage which would be a shame. In general a pretty decent operator, but one with some kinks that hopefully get worked out of the next 6* mystic caster if we ever get one.
Tbh he is just okay Not the worst but just okay His niche indeed have A LOT pf people doing that and i would love if HG give him the "stun" utility in his kit so at least he can bring even more to the table But he works pretty well and even more in sleep teams! Not only alongside Iris but with blemi, kafka, etc people forget about the utility that sleep bring to the table and Mystic Casters can use that to their advantages Not everything is bringing blue woman and press kill buttom because thats exactly why people get mad "she is waaaay to broken!!!!! *keep using her*" He works really well and have sinergy with sleep teams and his S2 have good uses too i use him in IS and i will try anniquilations with him since theres places perfect for him to use his s2 HG just hate casters in general and only Eija and GG manage to escape lmao Mystic caster where always a niche and eben is not different
@@SajinRouen As much as I actually love using both S2 and S3, I admit it that he does perform a bit underwhelming, especially upgrading his S2. Leveling at M3 isn't a significant buff, just flat out give a slight percentage buff for his minion bois explode attack. I really want that when it's M3, Ebenholz can summon 2 now instead of 1 without any charges. But yeah I also agree that he is just okay, but despite that, I am having really fun using him.
After watching this video, I have come to the conclusion that Ebenholtz is good and I will be using him in every gamemode (which just so happened to be my previous impression of Ebenholtz) Also his S2 makes funny sounds so I like it
Special shoutout to Dokutahs like Arachno and Kamissenger who develop extra braincells just to dab on the haters of their husbands, y'all really do give us simps hope ✌✌
So, basically Ebenholz is this year's Passenger. I guess we needed to restore the Karmic balance of Bad Male 6*s after getting the awesome Gnosis and Lumen, otherwise we would be way over our heads when Taciturn Horse Uncle arrives early next year to replace SilverAsh.
Pulls burned: 130. (Double Ebenholz in the final ten pull) Fucks given: 0. "Bad operator" this, "hard to use" that... Big monkey numbers? Big monkey numbers good. I don't give a single shit about DP, I already got bored of Ch'otgun and Surtr outside of braindead solving CC so I don't really bother using them, and I'm maintaining my orca record of never missing an operator again since failing to pull Ashlock. He's fun, he has top tier aesthetics in every conceivable way (looks, voice, FX, everything), and his personality is excellent. As Ebenholz himself would say, screw authority and doing things the "proper" way. Ain't nobody got time for that shit.
You know... I pulled for him because I did not believe that I wouldn't get him in his own banner after failing the "50:50" countless times in a row. (Like, I've never gotten so many 6* ops in one banner and I was aiming for Hibiscus and only passed through a bunch of 6* before I got her.) And that is why I will now force myself to love him, after I lost a grand total of 160 pulls. (I had 170 pulls saved up, sunk cost fallacy ftw!)
Man if I wouldn't safe pulls for chalter i would instantly get him. But not because of his kit, the event story and his character just really did it for me.
Ebenzhold is more a Boss Buster or rather an Elite Killer to me than a Boss killer... The moment he might kill a boss with just one full charged S3 hit is if we include Saria/Haze, Hibisalter a Hexer Supp and the buffers (Salkter, Warfarin, etc.) before the boss gets in Ebenz's range to nuke it.
