This was such an amazing thing what a gem Sadly the new one is nowhere near as in depth as this one is and is incredibly stripped back instead. Feels more like a $50 tech demo for now incredibly outdated hardware
Luminous sucks compared to this masterpiece ! It's sad that luminous will be the first endless ocean game to a lot of people, it could have been so much more. I'm scared people will think "that's endless ocean ? Damn it's bad, not worth playing the other games" and crash the licence's popularity. I really hope luminous wonnt be the last endless ocean game ever
Obviously you never know, but I don’t think it’ll be the last game. Arika has been making these diving games since 2001, and they don’t really have any other big franchises (go check out their Wikipedia page, what a weird list of games developed). So I’m hopeful someday the Blue World fans will get the game they want.
I literally just found out about the Endless Ocean franchise today, and as someone who loves to be in the water, I was immediately drawn to the long overdue addition of an air and depth meter. I assume the depth meter is in meters because the diver's icon turns yellow between the 30 and 45 markings. That is no coincidence: 40 meters (~130 feet) is the safe depth limit for recreational scuba diving, and 20 meters (~65 feet) is where you earn your basic open water certification.
I know nothing about diving, so that’s a cool detail I would have never picked up on, thank you for pointing that out! and assuming they did that on purpose, it’s pretty cool that the developers did their homework on that. You can tell this game was made by people who really like the art of diving.
@HydratedGaming Indeed! I noticed in Subnautica that the depth meter does one better on this one by actually giving a numerical readout of how deep you're diving. I forgot to add this in my previous comment, but I'm not sure if there is a way to set the depth meter to feet. Not that I would want to try; Japan uses the metric system anyway, which is extremely linear.
I’m glad you liked the game! I spent hours playing this game as a kid, it was one of my favorites growing up. I loved the story and characters even though they were a bit campy, I loved collecting treasure and finding mythical species. I was really excited for the new game, but it doesn’t even feel like an endless ocean game… Curious to hear your thoughts if/when you get around to it. But I think I’ll just go back to playing this game instead
I just got it the other day, so I need some time to go through it yet, but based on what all the fans are saying, I don’t have high hopes. I hope some day the fans get the sequel they deserve. I just don’t know why they didn’t just port or remaster Blue World at this point. I could barely find a physical copy of this game, which tells me I think they knew sales weren’t going to be great.
I’ve seen the reviews. It almost sounds like a sequel to Endless Ocean 1 instead of 2. I’ll probably still get it to see for myself, but it doesn’t sound like I’ll like it as much as this game. Curious to see what fans of the series think though.
Hell yeah good video. What other Wii games do you have in mind to make a review of? Might I suggest World of Goo? Its also getting a second game even if you havent played the first one its pretty damn good.
Thank you very much! World of Goo apparently got ported to switch a few years ago, so based on your recommendation I’ve added it to my list to try to track down a physical copy. If I find one, I’ll make a video. If you have any other recommendations, I am certainly open to suggestions!
