I don't think so...

Not to mention that RabbitMQ, one of the most widely adopted message brokers is written in Erlang. I don't think Erlang will die though - maybe less adoption of the language itself, but not with its runtime that's used by Elixir and more recently, Gleam. As long as there's a runtime, there will be it's progenitor language. Similar in some respects to how Java birthed Groovy, Scala, and Kotlin.

Fortunately, languages like Elixir and Gleam, which don't have the problems that the Erlang language has, run on the Erlang VM ;)

Can they also do that hot swapping?

@@Luredreier Yes, both Elixir and Gleam support hot-swapping, just like Erlang. Hot-swapping allows you to update code live without interrupting the system, and it's a feature inherited from Erlang. In Elixir, hot-swapping is supported through tools like "mix" and the Phoenix framework, which allow dynamic module loading and code updates during application runtime. Gleam, on the other hand, is a compiled language but still leverages the Erlang VM, enabling hot-swapping while maintaining safety and performance. In summary, both of these languages support hot-swapping, although they may have slightly different mechanisms and tools for achieving it.

2004: -PHP- (Erlang) is dead, use Ruby on Rails 2010: -PHP- (Erlang) is dead, learn Flask 2022: -PHP- (Erlang) is dead, use Next.js. This dude is undying.
