I had pain identical to what you're reciting. Radiated from extreme low back across right butt and all the way down my leg. Absolute misery 24/7. After doing the Medicare MerryGoRound for approvals, had an x-ray which showed nothing, made me do PT (useless !), then finally had an MRI which showed a herniation between L3-L4. One doc wanted to do a lumbar fusion (cage), which is more serious than a laminectomy (research all of these !). Naturally he did, as he was an orthopedic surgeon (cutter !!). Went to a second ortho, who said "I may be wrong, but I don't think it rises to the level of a fusion.". Decided to get a laminectomy. Went in 7:30 a.m., was walking to the mailbox (with a cane) by 2 PM !! ALL PAIN disappeared immediately. 17 months later, so far, so good. Doing some seated yoga exercises/stretching in place to increase spinal flexibility, but you can do that off RU-vid right in the truck. I've also gone to chiro for 43 years after T-bone accident in 1981, but hurts too much to get adjustments in certain areas, so cutting that back. This is nothing to mess with. Strongly urge you to ask friends who have seen orthos, read up on their reviews online, and see a good orthopedic physician. I would not start with a surgeon, because surgery is what pays their bills !!! If the laminectomy fails, you can always get a fusion, but there's no going back from a fusion, and there are certainly risks and down-sides to a fusion (although sometimes they are the only option). You don't have to suffer !!! Get it looked at !!!!
To add to what Doug Brown said, I've also had this problem and the first thing that was said to me was to loose weight and it worked! I had a front porch like yours and the weight loss was super helpful. I encourage you to do the same. Best of luck!
I hope your back gets better soon Kurt I know how that feels it's no picnic.. and first Class id love to drive such a tractor have a good trip be safe!
Kurt, go see an orthopedic surgeon and get that back fixed. I was stupid and lingered with back and leg pain for about 15 years! Finally I had a laminectomy to remove an overgrown vertebrae. With a good surgeon and a positive attitude it was a success. No more pain in the back or shooting down my legs to my toes. Life is short, enjoy the ride. God bless! JR
When my husband wants liver and onions, he has to cook and eat it in the garage. Opie will know you cheated on him. He can smell McDonalds remnants from a mile away. I do hope your pain eases for you. Thanks for the ride. Safe travels, and God bless.
Hello Kurt, I am not one to interfer with others but I may have a suggestion you could try, I also had back pain etc, then I realized that when I wore a belt, it would be tight when I sat for long periods of time so I switched to suspenders, the pain disappeared, I don't know if this would help you but it would be worth trying and could have immediate relief. Thank you for your videos, they keep me entertained.
Hi Kurt, I understand your frustrations with your back condition. It's challenging to do the things you once did, it's painful and annoying all at the same time. It causes a mental strain or stress on ya. The best advice I can give about the mental state ( which does have a connection to recovery) is to do everything you can to stay as positive as you can. It has taken me 3 years to get back to moving around close to what I was 4 years ago, sometimes I overdo it and I get a wonderful reminder of the shape it is in. Best of luck sir.
Good luck at your new Chiropractor❤❤. Yes, anyone with back problems before and after surgery know what you are going through. Or somewhat hurt, hurt.❤. Fried beef or Buffalo liver and onions. Then homemade mashed potatoes. Yummy.
@@truckingwithschmidt7120 cuz first class is a beautiful truck would look good on a poster like her sitting there parked with sunset behind her or something
@@truckingwithschmidt7120Yeah I think 🤔 so too. Wouldn’t mind having picture of First Class on my wall too. I’m wondering if you have sciatica nerve issues too Kurt. I had some lower back pain when I was loading and unloading the heavy farm equipment for LansdowneMoody off & on. Chiropractors can work miracles on our backs and I still stay in touch with the one that worked on me.
Hi Kurt you sound like Tom Beaudette at. The end of your video keep it trucking brother you are doing a great job thanks for the entertaining videos 👍🏻
Mutha Trucker says trucks are going to half to get governed and computer logs for anything dot don’t matter what kind of truck if it has a dot # on it eld is on also and it’s slower. I honestly never thought if it can’t hook to the truck can’t be on it
Hi Kurt I’ve been watching your videos for some time now look forward to them I’m 74 now but 20 years ago I had your problem it effects your lower back and goes down your leg it’s very painful it’s called sciatica usually effects one leg getting out of bed after sleeping was very painful,it hurt but the only way that cured me was exercising it took about three months to get rid of it for me walking was the best way to control it there’s no quick fix but you can do it yourself best wishes from the UK
An awesome video Kurt as is all of them. I am so sorry you're hurting i am right there with you. My left hip my back right above just hurts so much. I feel your pain brother. Stay safe and your in my thoughts and prayers. Safe travels.
I had my first back surgery on L4-L5 at 19 (1974) and the last one in 2012. Some days are great; but when my back goes out, it’s out. My prayers for Kurt and you
I'm with you! Can't stand liver and onions! Hope your back gets better and Opie comes along for the ride in First Class again. I remember years ago riding in my late uncle's truck when he made some deliveries not far from their ranch.
Hey Kurt it been awhile since I've been driving truck but I went and checked and trucks under the 2000 are exempt from the eld. Years 2000 and up have the ECM which is required to operate the ELD. So there you go
That's funny when I worked in the slaughter house they cooked pork liver on the grill with onions and bbq sauce wasn't bad they'd slice it and have it on white bread! Hopefully you get some pain relief! Sending thoughts and prayers 🙏
Yes we had a doozy storm in Topeka. There is a part of town called Oakland. It's down there very near where you drop and pick up. It's the original part of Topeka. Some of the residents swear they might have gotten hit by a small funnel because of the serious tree and structure damage. Lots of power out. Lots of trees on vehicles and homes.
Hey Kurt I don't comment on videos, like ever, but the back pain you're telling us about hits real close to home and I hate to see my fellow man in pain. Almost teared up when you were expressing how frustrated you are with it because I've been in the same boat for the past few years. It really is hell and it changes you. If I may give some advice: have you thought about seeing a physical therapist? I recall you mentioned not wanting to see a specialist, but PT/ occupational therapy helped me a ton and they can take measurements to see what's out of alignment. It can be pretty surprising when you stretch out your wrists, forearms, or calves, only to loosen up a pinched nerve further up the spine that seemed completely unrelated. I saw a lot of truckers and clerical folks coming through that PT office and they all seemed to improve in condition quite readily. Hope this helps and God bless.
For me there are two downsides to the ELD. The first being that you have to pay a provider and depending on the provider you also have to pay for their hardware. I use Motive on my phone but you still have the gateway and cables to pay for. The other is when I’m on my way home and right on hours it can be frustrating but that’s when you use their own rules to get what you need. To my knowledge it’s a matter of using the right words and phrases in the remarks when using personal conveyance. Other than that to me it’s not that big of a deal.
Kurt it's my understanding that late in the 2025 was the last discussed time that they were gonna require the older trucks to have an ELD logging device
The last time I went to a so called chiropractor bone quacker, she put me in pain I have never experienced. I was having sever neck strain and after a few days, I went to the bone cracker. On little bench she had me lie on my stomach. She put her hands in the middle of my back about shoulder blade height. When she pushed down on my back I came off that table in tears and pain and all the air out of my lungs. My body immediately went into Costochondritis. Look up the word and you will see what it is. For the next six weeks, I had to sleep in one of my living room chairs, NOT A RECLINER. I could not lie on my back or either side at anytime. Standing up or sitting was not too bad. I did have some breathing problems. You don't ever want to experience this. You thing your back and let hurt. When you can't lie down for six weeks, it is no picnic. So brother, I hope you read this and do the right thing. Stay away from the bone quakers and see an orthopedic Dr. Jerry
truck driver here 44years no accidents now up on blocks !tell me how ELDS work on trucks that have no electronic crap in them or use that cat piss DEF stuff? love what you post jerry from new brunswick canada
It doesn't matter what year the truck is. The engine has to be a 1999 or older. That's why so many people were buying the gliders. A new truck with an old engine so they wouldn't have to run ELD's.
Sorry to hear that mom is in the hospital, hope everything is ok. Hope you find some relief with your back pain. I've had several flare ups with my sciatic nerve that lasted for several weeks each time, no fun at all. Prayers and blessings to you and your family that all goes better soon. 🙏❤️🙂
43,000 pounds with that short amount of pallets and the way it’s loaded? That’s impossible to scale out. It doesn’t matter if you aren’t going to pass any scales anyway. Pork liver is the poor people’s food. We used to eat it back in the 60’s and 70’s. I used to miss the drop/hook at Smithfield/Farmland years ago. I like having my own trailer.
Be careful with the back. Sounds like a pinched nerve. I have spinal stenosis that pinches my sciatic nerve and will cause my leg to go numb around my knee and my leg will give out. Was getting in my truck and my leg gave out on the bottom step and down I went. Sheared off all three points that hold your ankle together and broke both bones in my lower left leg. Now I've got a rod in my leg and my ankle is locked in place. Truck been sitting for six months. Can't climb in it. If it wasn't paid for it would be gone to a new home. You never realize how much you need the movement in your ankle til it doesn't move. Hopefully I can get back at it before long. If that's true about the ELD in 99 and older I may be done anyway.
The only thing regulators hate worse than non-compliance with regulation is loopholes. They will NEVER stop trying to regulate trucking in all its forms.
have bad hip/lower back as well. 18 years on job heavy wrecker. do not go to chiropractor unless doctor referred you to do so. I made a mistake doing that and had to do lumbar fusion surgery. hope you had been looked at and been referred to cuz it sucked on my part!
There always kicking around the ELD for older trucks, but haven't come up with a plan yet that works. Mega carriers are pushing for it. Try a forced or manual defrost, especially after been sitting at a dock with the doors open for so long. Gives the unit a chance to start over, and removes the Ice build up on the evaporator. TGP
Please tell Uber Dad thank you for the bonus goodies sent with my recent T-shirt and magnet purchase! My Dad loves watching your channel and these were birthday gifts for him. Hope your mom is doing better! - Carolyn N.
Family first that's are frame of mind things can wait but family most important tell Uber dad things will fall back in to place and give you a piece of mind hope wife's doing better mine is in hospital now lung problem 😊 4:09
@@truckingwithschmidt7120 yep, no rain in the forecast for another 5-7 days, it’s been relatively cool tho but huge heat wave coming up which is gonna make the grass even worse
Kurt so sorry you are having back pain. As a person who has lived with it for many years about the best pain control I can say is go to your primary doc. Get a referral if needed and go to a pain clinic and see what they can offer you. I have a lumbar epidural every 4 months. Better that than surgery.
Yes the so called government us trying to make everyone have an elog but it's not going to work it blew a buddy of mines fuses all kinds of stuff. I run and elog an I hate it if you go over 5 miles and hour it puts you on driving duty. I'm down in Dallas Texas right now catching up on your channel. Your lucky you can still draw line's boy o miss them day's lol you have a fantastic day and tell them doggies I said hi and there the star of this channel 😄
Maybe you should explore getting a cortisone shot in the back to relieve the lower back pain and that would help the leg nerve numbness and discomfort.
I heard there is two wires you will need to make the older trucks run on a eld then you will have to pay roughly fifty dollars a month for a logging device it has to be illegal to make you do this.
Sorry that your back is giving you problems. Hope the chiropractor can help. I think many people have, or know someone who has, back problems. I worked with a guy who finally went to a standing desk. Of course, that wouldn't work for you. But have you ever seen one of those inversion tables that Relax the Back store sells? You strap your feet in and flip 180 degrees. It stretches your spine out. Also, I heard that trimming your beard will help, i.e. less weight on your spine lol. All the best.... Annette in Omaha P.S. My doc has always told me that losing weight will help eliminate back pain... and also each pound lost takes 4 lbs weight off your knees.
Yup I was out delivering a new truck today and stopped at a roadside ice cream stand, I've got my favorite stops in the upper midwest for great soft serves. A man out running the roads deserves good ice cream 😂
Great video I would definitely keep looking into fixing that issue I’m a owner operator as well with your same issues and been off work now for almost two weeks sucks slow and painful process and the bills don’t stop if you need to stop work for a week or so so it don’t get worse I would definitely consider it I know it’s hard take care brother
How would an ELD work on a nonelectronic truck? When I was a kid liver was on the menu each week because it was supposed to be a source of iron needed by growing kids, I never liked the taste plus mom cooked it to the constancy of shoe leather!
I had a fusion on my lower back finally after 12 years of suffering. I tried steroid shots for years they helped until about 2 years ago. Don't wait too long to take care of it, or you'll end up with nerve damage.
My husband and son and I like liver and onions ( I don’t like onions, so mine is cooked separate). Even though we like it, my husband had his heart attack in 2019, so we will never have that again. Would never eat pig liver 🐷🤢 I hope your back pain gets better, and you never have to go through the pain every day of your life. I will have mine for life, not fun. If, you want a quick solution for sleep, try my suggestion of therm a care, the heat will help and it’s not bad when you have your ac on, fyi I get so hot just moving, so trust me when I say that it works. 😊 I get having Dairy Queen, but McD’s…🦮🐕🦺
Kurt I know the FMCSA plans to revisit ELD requirements for older trucks pre 2000 year with no engine computers for ELD’s in 2025. I have read that some type using mobile phone apps may be an alternative or some type of certified ELD that does not work off the truck computer might be considered. It is purely on the docket for discussion in 2025 so nothing has been decided as yet.
Could it possibly be that your SI is out? That happens a lot when people who drive a lot sit in their wallets. They lay you on a table pull your leg and pop it back in
Dang schmitt and i thought you were ok. Another one that dont eat liver and onions.😂 certainly better for you than mcdonalds. Hoping yall get some relief from your back.
I have sciatica and spinal stenosis with 3 herniated vertebrae. I see a chiropractor occasionally. When things really act up, Ice and heat, Salonpas patches, some yoga and stretching work best.
Kurt……I understand your back pain. I’ve had 10 different surgical procedures on my back and hip. It really never gets well only better. I broke my back, neck and hip in my twenties in an accident. I’m 65 now
Kurt and maybe time for a new driver side seat the extended hours you spending it and starting to have arthritis in your lower back. It may be time to spend some money.
"How did that get in my hands?" Well, it's that magic you have but never discuss! How else? No, no. Can't blame Opie. LOL Thankee for the ride and the views. Hope your back is better for the diversion.
Hi Kurt love your videos been watching yall for years now i hope you get feeling better soon driver.when you going to put the chicken lights back on first class it looks naked with out them beautiful Chicken lights
