Is Evolving Skies Still WORTH IT in 2024? 

ES is going to go down as one of the GOAT sets in Pokemon history. Yes, the print runs were massive, yes the pull rates are tough. This set came out during a MASSIVE return to Pokemon collecting across the world thanks to the pandemic and frankly Pokemon nailing this set. The artwork, the size, the pull rates (keeping prices afloat) and all of the hype around ES is absolutely going to make buying these at $440 a steal in 3-5 years. Watch just about any YT's content and even though ES has tough pull rates, none of them rank this set any lower than an A tier (most rank in S tier) as an investment even at today's prices. I also invested in 3 pack blisters and the stadiums. Luckily I was in on this bandwagon from the rip at $90 a booster box and $12 for a 3 pack blister. It is my absolute favorite set in SWSH and I happen to agree with you, if you want anything ES related that you don't have, I would say now is the time before it starts to get stupid in price! Totally agree. Evolving skies is the face of the sword and shield era. It will always be THE set of the era and tons of people will nostalgically look back at chasing those awesome Alt arts. I think the fact so many people like ripping this will continue to put downward pressure because I think these will continue to get cracked for box breaks going forward. I only have one box I bought at $415 but I want to get another. I believe so strongly in this booster box.

The biggest myth in the Pokemon TCG is "everyone is stashing product". The issue isn't will Evolving Skies keep going up, it's a question of return on investment. What will generate a better return on investment over the next 5-10 years? One Evolving Skies booster box at its current price or four Lost Origin booster boxes at their current price? How about the current value of an ES booster box worth of 151?

It’s not a tough answer at all, it’s a simple yes. There’s not another set with this much demand in all of sword and shield and the umbreon is the base set Charizard of sword and shield. This set has the 2 most expensive Alt arts in this set not to mention all the other expensive ones.

Lately I’ve been buying up ES sleeved booster packs & 3 pack blisters …I plan to pick up as many as I can before they really start to take off, I think these will be more liquidable in the future because price wise ES booster boxes will become unobtainable for most collectors where as a sleeved booster pack or a 3 pack blister will still be within reach. C’mon the Strikers, let’s do it again🏏😂

Another good thing about evolving skies is that its more liquid then other stuff, lets say u have some random EX Box that went up 300% and u try to sell it 5 years down the road, the people interested in your Ex box is way lower, i know from having a bunch of different sealed myself that some of it is really hard to off load. atleast here in the country i live in. Where booster boxes from popular sets are way easier to get rid of when u wanna cash in / move money to other areas

Got into collecting and investing into Pokémon late 2022 and got my first box to keep sealed in Silver Tempest and was able to pick up an Evolving Skies ETB for around Msrp. Was curious though if any of the premium collection boxes are worth keeping sealed or if it’s better to crack open the packs inside.

I hope you could focus a little more on the japanese market too bro, been watching your channel for a few months appreciate all the content 💪

That's kind of my conclusion, too. I'm starting to buy a bunch of evolving skies, slowly. It is kinda pricey right now but I want to pull moonbreon and still have some sealed product to hold onto for later. I find that I can't sell my prized singles for sentimental value, but sealed product is a bit easier to let go of. There will always be that kind of "what could I have pulled out" of that. But if you have all the singles you wanted out of the set, then it doesn't really matter as much. Especially if they are 10's.

I've been buying up the Eeveelution V alt arts (promos included). You can get a full set of those singles for less than a sealed box. Imagine how stoked you'd be to crack 5 alt arts in a box, despite not breaking even on value. Cool thing about collecting the singles is you don't have to buy them all at once. Those singles are the ticket imo.

I bought only box of evolving skies.. i pulled the rayquaza alt art and the slyveon alt art in the same box. It was a really exciting moment!! After that i was kinda done with evolving skies but the prices continued to climb, so after not playing fora while i started collecting.. i have 36 packs cosmic eclipse.. 2 ebts of evolving skies.. and 2 ebts of 151.. i just think these were the best sets for every gen

I believe ES is assured to be a 4 figure booster box UNLESS TPCI go crazy and print more. The depth and the quality of the arts will never go out of demand. I will do what I can to obtain one in the first quarter of 2024. I don’t want to be the guy going “I remember when these were under $500 and I didn’t buy any” once they hit $1k a few years down the line.

It’s difficult really if you have a long term mind set you will win in the long term Next 2 years I don’t think it will go crazy but next 5 - 7 years it will be the set we all thought alongside chilling, fusion and brilliant stars we didn’t realise how good we actually had it! Luckily I have a bunch of all these sets 3 evo skies and sleeved blisters the alt art sets will be strong but you have to play the long game in my opinion Don’t underestimate fusion strike that gengar still holding strong astral Alt art hits super underrated aswell

I think it’s important for people investing to consider what their means of selling off will be and to not count their chickens before they hatch. Let’s just say you pick up an ES booster box for around $450 right now. Whenever it makes it to $4k, if you sell it off eBay, that 13.25% fee will be $530. That leaves you with $3470, BUT then you still have to pay taxes on your profit. Let’s just say you’ll be paying the standard 22%, which is $660. That leaves you with $3,260. That’s a much different profit margin than how it looks at first when you see the $4k market price. Yes, there’s still a profit to be made, all I’m saying is it’s wise to keep this in mind so you don’t get your hopes up for even bigger margins than you’ll realistically get to keep.

i had 50 boxes of evolving skies. sold it so quickly, now i have none.. the umbreon is hard to pull but bad pull rates mean the value holds better. however theres over 10k in pop report for psa 10. umbreon vmax is hands down the best modern card, for many its the "base set charizard grail"

I think people don't really care about the pop, because the cards just look awesome. They are nice to display, the eeveelutions are the center piece (Which all the arts look fantastic). the reason why people keep saying its hoarded is because the cats out the bag. Couldnt be any closer to the truth. Old WOTC boxes went up in value due to them not being printed and a strong organic demand. no one had the mindset that they need to stick 20 Expedition boxes in their closet back then. I know it could be worst if the video game side and toy collecting side got involved. that alone could blow things up while a handful of boxes being astronomically high on release. but when someone knows that youve got 200 boxes of Innistrad stacked in your closet like Rudy, whos going to want to give you 2,000 for them? That exposed Magic, and some of this stuff is not that rare.

Evolving Skies is selling at $700aud minimum price now. Anything lower than you've got yourself a steal. 💰

That moment you realize that opening your ES boosterbox 2 years ago and pulling 10 hits out of it makes me think if it was a god box compared to this statistics 😅

You mentioned PSA 10 but you forgot about BGS BLACK LABEL 10. More valuable than PSA 10

I was able to get a booster box of evolving skies for just under $300 a few weeks ago and just got another last week for a little over $100 so combined I’m basically sitting with a free box. Hopefully it does grow like some of the sun and moon sets. I also heard Pokémon center had some evolving skies available recently but it clearly sold right away.

From a collecting / collector's perspective - sure, that's probably correct. If you just want to own a box, now is probably your best bet. But if you're looking where to invest your money, I'd argue there are better avenues, and less risky / lower barrier to entry. I would be looking at those mid-2021 sets to start grabbing them up before they start hitting that $200 mark, personally... much more room for growth.

ES still worth it in 2024, will worth more in 2030. a lot of people got back to collecting around SWSH era, and ES is the best set from SWSH. 20+ years from now people will consider ES to be one of the best set pokemon ever produce

The raw and psa 10 prices for the hits in this set make no sense, your talking a price difference of less than $100 for a graded PSA 10 copy of the card, that percentage value gained by getting a psa 10 is so small. For Instance, Ray Vmax alt art - Raw copy $240, Grading fee AT LEAST $20, PSA 10 value $325 , At least in my state if sold on eBay it's basically 15% fees , do all the math and sending it to PSA basically nets you $16.25 additional profit IF you hit a psa 10. It's more if you sell it off platforms and save those fees but still, with no fees your at $48.2. Doesn't seem worth it. I wouldn't bother buying the raw cards of the chases in this set at all. - more than likely it's off center enough to where it's not a 10, hence why it didn't get graded. - Your only gaining $50 in value by sending it to get graded yourself. I personally think these psa 10 copies are going to keep going down, you see it all the time, boxes cost 1k and the best chase card is like $200.
