I did both and now I am a full-time freelancer, I don't take any breaks, I work for 12 to 15 hours every single day. no Sunday, no holiday but I go for a vacation once in every three months and sometimes these are as long as a month. Even though I work almost 3 times more than my full-time job but I am happy and never want to go back on a full-time job. I like freelancing I don't need to waste 2/3 hours just commuting to my work place. aur sb se jaruri mai sunday ka wait krte huye nhi jita an hi mujhe ye lgta h ki fir Monday aa gaya. sote time ye nhi sochna padta ki kl fir office jana h. mai roj kaam krta hu fir bhi moring me excitement rhti h kaam start krne ki. I'm freelancing for last two years as a specialist engineer in an obscure nieche. This is out of necessity, because the role I'm seeking rarely exists in a corp. Freelancing is a rosy picture until you run out of work and money. It's tough outside the security of a job because almost everything is uncertain. Next client, next project, next payment, you have little to no control over the timing. Unless you're in it to scale what you do and run it like a business, it's going to be a nightmare because of limited bandwidth and uncertainties. I don't recommend freelancing if you're running away from people, politics, discipline, a boss or what not. You're highly likely to be disillusioned if you try to freelance. Grass seems greener where there's more bullshit. Breaking free of bondage of a job comes with immense burden of self education, responsibility, radical ownership and dealing with uncertainties and unseen risks. Highly relatable video.

As a freelance since last 4-5 years, I both, agree and disagree with the video: Misconception 1 - Agreed. The first year is the hardest financially, however, after that its a downhill provided you keep the consistency. Misconception 2 - Disagreed. I have a lot of time freedom, largely due my line of work. Client gives me a project deadline and that's it, I'm free to choose my own work hours. Isolation is real though, I don't get to socialize very often. Misconception 3 - Disagreed. There's practically no office politics at least of me. If you're good the client would want to work with you more. Misconception 4 - Agreed, but again, the first year is toughest. Once you have a good portfolio of work, and even a small client base, if it not very hard to get more work. This is purely my personal experience and may vary as there's a lot of different kind of freelance work which may demand other commitments.

If you're good at something which doesn't pays you enough as a corporate employee (for example, people employed in a company as a graphic designer, video editors, illustrators, vfx artists, etc.), it's better to look for freelancing jobs instead. There is a hard cap on salary for creative professionals (graphic designers, video editors, illustrators, etc.) at any corporate job. You won't get to 30-40 LPA salary no matter how good you are as a creative professional in a corporate job. If you want better salary, you'll have to change your job role to some managerial role like becoming a project manager or something. If you end up changing your job role, one way or another you'll be sacrificing your passion for the financial growth (or more money). Whereas, if you're a freelancer, you can charge your clients what you're worth (assuming your expectations are realistic, and you don't live in a bubble). Foreign clients in general tend to be less exploitative than Indian corporate jobs, and will pay you well if you're good. You might have a chance to land a full-time position for a foreign company as a remote worker as well. In my opinion, the main benefit of freelancing is the freedom to travel and work from anywhere as long as you have internet connection, as well as being able to stay with your loved ones all the time. Obviously it's not always unicorns and roses. In my opinion, if you're exceptionally good at what you do, you should try pursuing freelancing. But if you're just mediocre, forget freelancing, just get a job and try to climb the corporate ladder. Moreover, as a freelancer, unless you can scale yourself up as a business, it's difficult to earn anywhere near what a person in a managerial role is earning in a corporate job. Also, no matter whether it's freelancing or corporate job, don't forget to keep investing smartly and plan for rainy days.

At the outset, the word freelancing itself is wrong. You can proudly say you're a freelancer, but most clients will always take you for granted. Don't mess up your life with freelancing since having a disciplined or organised work culture in this career option is very difficult. The worst case is freelancing plus working from home, it's like a suicide.

That's very true! I am a freelancer myself and most of my friends are freelancing only. They often face this issue of being out of their regular social circles, which leads to lack of motivation and thrill in life. They generally try to go to co-working spaces where they find likeminded people and chill with them in their free time.

Been a freelancer since 2008. I will choose it above full time work every time. It is flexible, lets you be your own boss. BUT it is harder than full time work in terms of having to do everything yourself. One day away from work means loss of money. One needs to be good at money management too. Income is erratic. Fast/ feast situation. A huge plus about freelance is the sheer variety of work. Very satisfying for a creative person.

This is a good video but I think one point that's not considered is how certain roles (esp creative roles) just don't pay after a certain stage in your career to keep up with what you want to earn. So freelancing becomes a better option. Also, another (slightly aspirational) suggestion is to not only consider men and neurotypicals as your examples. Women and neurodivergent folks are often undervalued and underpaid regardless of how talented they are. It's because of systemic issues, and ableist homogenous expectations. And sticking it out in a corporate job may be soul-sucking and frustrating for them, making freelancing a better option than quitting their jobs altogether.

Further to my earlier comments, let me add a few more comments! A mechanical design engineer who was expert started doing freelance. I guided him to conduct design classes for fresh mechanical engineers. Here attitudes play a very important role . If he started conducting classes, he would have a manpower base. Basically his attitude is, if he teaches, others will gobble his business. Even during working, he would not clarify design doubts for non design department. That's why he lost his business. Further, when he started applying for jobs, he was asked by a company to head a design team. He refused because of his attitude of not guiding others!😂 If he was guiding others, he would have confidently accepted such a position! 😂 He lost here because of unpractised hidden skill set!😂😂😂😂😂

Nice analysis but still freelance is freedom. Freelancing in my experience is - there goes a year with revenues more than expected and then followed with 2 years with half or even 1/4 based on market dynamics. Now either the freelancer breaks and joins a job or flights and get business, in most cases the person chooses the first. the rare case finds new clients or diversifies and over years is better off than the one who quit.. it actually takes a lot of Talent, guts, emotional balance and money to survive and excel in freelancing. Freelancer with home(family) commitments is actually never free😂😂 instead of one corporate boss now there are multiple people bossing on you once your business income is low. Successful freelancers are mostly loners, self centred, high ego, determined person with High emotional balance.

It is not that in freelancing you are your own boss it is that you have multiple boss... You have to answer to multiple bosses. On top of that none of the bosses give you ppf, bonus or insurance and even sometimes refuse to give you leave 😂

Freelancing is damn good if you have multiple skills such as design, development, SEO, marketing, AI, etc. Because in a job, you're paid for only one skill.

I think you are concentrated only on IT sector. There are other sectors like teaching, sports etc. A person should have a passive income from assets earned earlier. Now , freelancing gives time to explore new ventures. Individual contractor is also a freelancer. I used to work in oil and gas industry on contract basis. The pay is higher than a regular employee, but the term is fixed. No job is permanent. Save, invest wisely and have a passive income. It's a step between a contract job and a entrepreneur. Some freelance requires just to spend 1hour a day for 3 to 4 days a week maybe in morning or afternoon. For this, a person has to acquire multiple skills. I may call this a transition freelancing. For example a person who was working with Amazon lost his job. He started coaching in a sport he was playing. The rest of his time he spent on managing his father's catering business. Now, he has committed a small amount of time (sports) to earn an income, before jumping to his family business. I think most people make business plans without conducting market survey, skill( their own skill) by blindly jumping into freelancing.

Hey, zero1 team, the content you guys are putting is giving me lot of value. I'm 22 and got an entry to the largest mnc as a fresher. How can I now skill up myself and get a good pay and ask for a raise now. If i learn everything in my current post and if i feel the pay is less how can I negotiate for a better pay and if possible promote to some different posts which have no relationship with the current post. Also how can I network within the company and colleagues etc. (I dont have a clue about all the things related to companies and work culture, pay and all). Help me and lot of recently placed freshers guys😊❤.

Hello Prateek, You have missed out on how freelancing atmosphere and scope differs from one industry to another. Hope you can cover the same in some other video. I have been a freelancer, then i moved to corportate job, then I hired freelancers. I have worked with software developers, content developers, and graphic designers, Each have different experiences in freelancing. So it would be helpful if you could add a 2nd part with industry specific experiences and how it differs widely

I agree with you on only point the whole video - nothing comes easy. But this video is just only a flip side of Freelancing!! In my humble opinion, when you pursue your passion as freelancing literally nothing can stop doing what you do all day regardless of all the points you talked about here. When you freelancing your passion, you will find any hiccups, hindrances and hurdles for that matter not as constraints on the way instead you will just consider them part of the process reaching your goal. My way to approach the freelancing is to follow the below process then you will see the wonders: 1. Firstly, Never listen to outside noise just follow your inner voice - know what you are 100% good at 2. Identify an idea or concept at the earliest part of your life 3. Convert that into your lifetime goal. Start devoting your quality time, effort and money to acquire in-depth knowledge about that concept 4. Develop your skillset with the knowledge acquired 5. Gain experience by applying your knowledge and skillset developed to see gradual progress 6. Once gained experience, its time to monetize your skill slowly but surely 7. Monetizing will help you gain confidence to carve a niche for yourself You gotta make sure that you are well prepared even for bad times by saving substantially when you are through good times, thats how it works. Grand success will never happen in a jiffy Folks, anybody with me on the above insights??

Can I make a career in freelancing as a Web developer? It is compulsory to learn back-end development or only frontend is okay for freelancing? Someone said clients, companies want overall skillful people who knows back-end and front-end development, that's why I'm asking it. Everyone is learning web development, all the front end developers have made gigs, there is saturation on the freelancing platform, so how to survive, how will anyone give work to the new ones? And can we do this for lifetime, can we secure it by making a career or will we have to do a job?? You know anything can happen when go online, ( what if) all your business shut down suddenly... What if RU-vid, website or social media shut down, we already experienced that, now we often see social media shuts down occasionally. So can you make career in all these field if you're drop out and can't find your career??? Also here is my question: 👇🏻 1. How to take it as business? 2. How to find clients? 3. What to do when you're sick or on vacation, traveling, how to handle clients then? 4. How to scale your business?Or you need to do job or any other income source for survival? 5. After learning one skill you need to learn another skill for freelancing? 6. How to choose skill? I'm confused in 3-4 skills/careers like web development, graphics designer, thumbnail designer and animation, illustration etc which is better for long term career?

Everything about freelancing is spot-on in this video. And as a solo freelancer I can vouch that you'd feel more lonely and often sleepless nights in this profession. Look at freelancing sub reddits, you'll come across atleast one post about this twice a week. If anyone tells me they wanted to get into freelancing & ask for my advice, I'd tell them "jump in at your own risk"
