I think they are asking if it brings in more money. Not much more... and that's why the number of CPAs in the US has declined heavily since 2000. BUT there are a lot more job openings for a CPA compared to just an accounting degree holder with some experience. Instead of all the time, 150 credit hours, and extra effort needed to be a CPA, a person can make much more money going the CMA or CFA route instead.
Getting a CPA is definitely an investment in a number of ways! But it can open so many doors that would otherwise be closed, and can help advance your accounting career in countless ways. Thanks so much for sharing your take!
If you survey the jobs on indeed, LinkedIn and all other job boards, you’d realize that the CPA is a very popular (preferred) qualification. To that end, it easily outweighs the CMA and CFA for accounting and FP&A jobs.
