I've lived in Glasgow for 32 years and enjoyed the film thanks. Now I've retired, I could live anywhere I want - and I still want to live in Glasgow. That speaks volumes. On a historical note:-- You mentioned the decline in population of Glasgow after the War, well part of the reason for that was the construction of the New Towns of East Kilbride and Cumbernauld. These were designed to help deal with the housing problem in Glasgow which had a lot of overcrowded poor quality flats, and many Glaswegians moved to these two new towns.
Thanks you for showing the best parts off Glasgow usually people only show the horrible and glum parts , I was born in the city centre and grew up there so yes lots of changes in 65 years regarding shop closures and homeless people. I’m glad you posted the positives thank you.
Thank you. I am so happy that you like and approve my video. It's a real honor🙏 We stopped in Glasgow on the way home from Loch Lomond, and when I decided to do so, some of my friends sad: Why Glasgow, go to Edinburgh I am very glad I didn't listen to them, Glasgow very cool place and so much to see. It's a pity that we were there just after lockdown, so some places still had restrictions or were closed. Didn't stop us from enjoying the place😄
I live here. Not nearly as bad as some think. Great shops. Pubs. Subway. Architecture . If you want to find idiots , you’ll find them. Same as anywhere. I got robbed in Barcelona. It’s a friendly city. Great laugh.
Stereotypical c...p ..Glasgow is a vibrant and interesting city...not halfway up its own a...e like the Capital...Ive been there many times over the years..and had a great time...from a sassenach
I lived in Glasgow 29 years without a problem. In 18 months in Edinburgh I was violently mugged in Slateford and 3 months later my house was broken into. Go figure,
the city of Glasgow is smaller than Edinburgh in sq miles. Edinburgh has a much larger percentage of green spaces. Although with tens of thousands of houses in the pipeline it may in the next decade or two have the larger population.
I’m from Glasgow and it’s a lovely city, but nobody really lives in the city centre except for wealthy people it’s more the outskirts or “schemes” as we call them that can be very rough. It’s nowhere near as bad as it used to be 20 years ago with knife crime and gang violence but it’s still quite bad in a lot of places.
I remember when they changed all the street signs to look like the USA to film for the zombie film World War Z around the Italian centre and George Square.
Glasgow hasn't been a particularly crime ridden, dangerous city since the 70s/early 80s. Back then the city had a huge organised crime and gang problem but it's far less of an issue these days. Of course like any big city in Europe there are areas you might want to avoid at night, but that doesn't mean if you get lost and end up in one of those more deprived area you are automatically going to get attacked and robbed. It just means there's a higher chance of something happening. But that's the case in any large city in Europe, there are areas of Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, London, Dublin, Paris, Lyon, Berlin etc. you might want to avoid at night too. Generally if you don't go looking for trouble, take some basic precautions such as not having your expensive phone out all the time, not flashing big amounts of cash around and don't stand out too much you wont get bothered. Glasgow is great for a night out too. I see you experienced traditional Glasgow weather too, it does rain a lot because Glasgow is on the West coast and you're not far from the start of the HIghlands. Edinburgh tends to be a lot more windy.
Every City is crime ridden but the difference is that if you keep yourself to yourself and don't mix in that company it will pass you by,not every Glaswegian has been in a gang or has came from the worst poverty to single parent families Plenty of Glaswegians from tough housing schemes have also went on to higher education and University that have went on to make something of themselves some stayed in the schemes they grew up in and others moved to the suburbs
@@desgilroy1357 Ive never been in a gang and I'm from one of the most underprivileged areas in the UK Its all about the choices that you make in life isn't it?
Like the wee fud, who wasn't looking where he was going whilst showing off to his pals on Buchanan St and bumped into me. He fell on his keiter and smashed his bottle of WKD and tried to have a go. Pure class.
3rd biggest city in our United Kingdom & second city of the British Empire. We are a very friendly city & a lovely city. Everyone must visit Glasgow!! Forget Edinburgh, it’s shite & the people are right queerhawks!! Scottish, British & Proud 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
@@EpicAelflaed Edinburgh is full of Junkies & the folk think they’re superior to us Weegies, a right queer bunch. It’s also a congested shit hole, with no Trains. The Roads are a joke, as is their Trams. Who is Ken Eh, they speak in a high pitched whine, like someone is rubbing their ballocks with a feather!!
As a Scotsman born & how has lived all his life in The West of Scotland Glasgow very sadly is a complete dump now. Unless you are a history buff, I personally would not go out my way to visit Glasgow now. Glasgow was great back in the 90s & early 00s since the financial crisis in 2018, it has been going down hill big time & The pandemic plus the following cost of living crises things have gotten even worse in Glasgow. If I had the choice, I would rather visit Belfast , Leeds , York, or Newcastle to be perfectly honest. But to be fair, there are worse cities & and towns in The U.K as well such as Paisley , Johnstone, Greenock , Alloa , Stirling & Dundee to name a few. The problem is it's much easier in the U.K. to find Towns & cities that a complete dumps that are prosperous & doing well. The U.K & Scottish Government need to do a lot more to help local government to do a hell of a lot more to help U.K wide.
You need to check the facts, Glasgow is geographically much smaller. Populations closing. It's an uncomfortable truth for people living in a medium sized city that likes to think it's a big metropolis. I like Glasgow, it's a more than decent place. But it isn't larger I'm afraid.
The British Government had a hand in the depopulation of Glasgow because of the red Clydeside movement in Glasgow , so the powers that be started building towns outside of Glasgow because they thought Glasgow was becoming to powerful
The UK Conservative Government did get rid of Strathclyde Regional Council because it was too big and powerful. They reorganised all regional councils in Scotland to disguise their motives.
Rubbish, they moved people out to new towns and outskirts areas not for political reasons but better and new housing areas. Overpopulation. Eastkilbride,Cumbernauld.Irvine. I should know as I grew up in EK
To someone that has grown up on a island it might seem that way to you but violent crime happens everywhere and its happened on your island some hidious crimes Out in Glasgow after 8 is fine just keep your wits about you don't get to drunk and mind your own buisness and 99 per cent of the time your gonna get up the road in a taxi fine
@@legandrydirkYup, as my old Da told me when I first started clubbing in early 80's, never get so drunk that you can neither fight or run. Sound advice. 😂
@@AuldScot1888 Exactly if your approached walk away if you feel uncomfortable about the situation the chances are it will just be someone begging for money there not going to follow you and will ask the next one along instead
Under Central Station at night on Argyll St is where the homeless gather for the evening. Sometimes a soup kitchen is organised by volunteers to help. They are not dangerous, they may ask you for some spare change and that is all the "danger" you will encounter.
@sandersson2813 I would have to disagree, mind you im only talking about the city centre I always enjoy a night or 2 in Glasgow, think the City is fine plenty to do and a lot cheaper to stay, eat and drink than say Edinburgh, think vast majority of people are friendly and as for the vile accent, think you maybe tarring everyone with the same brush, plus i have no problems understanding it as I stay only 20 odd mile away, all in all I honestly can say I really enjoy Glasgow.
@@johngreenhorn8853 It's completely subjective and subject to ones own experiences and preferences. I'm not keen on it and wouldn't want to live there again.
@sandersson2813 As I said I'm basically talking only about the city centre as for staying in Glasgow don't think I would fancy it myself, but you have obviously stayed there and I haven't,I really only go for a night or two and the price is mostly reasonable, usually only in a Premier inn or travelodge,as I said I don't think it is anywhere near a horrible city and do think there is plenty to see and do,but as you say people have their own opinions.
