Oh God no EV's or more crappy 4 Doors . I had a 70 Grand Prix and loved it . # years later I traded it for a 69 GTO . Loved that too . I wished I would have bought a 69 Firebird . All we need is crazy people on the road driving Hydrogen bombs .
I would love to see Pontiac comeback, but strictly cars! No Truck's, Vans or SUVs. If Pontiac is going to be successful, they need to be different from Chevy, Buick and Cadillac otherwise what's the point. Bring back the G8, to replace the Charger. Trans Am or GTO, to go up against the Challenger and Mustang and a new turbo hatchback called the Piranha, to go up against the Civics and Corollas. Make them high performance and low production cars and see how the market takes to them. Bring back the G8 for Nascar and GTO for the Xfinity series. And market the hell out of them! Pontiac can be sold at Chevrolet dealerships just like Hummer is sold at GMC dealership. Pontiac can be the alternative to people who still want a car over a suv or truck. General Motors has a opportunity to jump on a American car market that is being left alone! And I don't think that advertisement was a joke. But a feeler gauge on public opinion, on whether to bring Pontiac back.
If the camero was based on the 70s Z28 or 80s IROC-Z I would have bought one in a heartbeat. I never like the 60s style in witch the modern one was based on.
I saw this ad in Car and Driver and I think its real. Why would Car and Driver waste valuable space on a fake ad? It doesn't make sense financially. As the owner of several fourth gen Firebirds, i really think and hope Pontiac is returning.
I am a big Ford guy. But I also have my ‘87 TA in the garage! I really can’t wait to see Pontiac come back. Oh, and congratulations on the growing family!
I have a low mileage G8 that sits next to my Fox Body.. I am a HUGE FORD guy.. Also have a T BLAZER SS.. Gave up my C6 VETTE for that.. I swear... I'm a ford guy...
GM already said that it was "all" Car and Driver with that ad. I really hope that this was a Hail Mary to feel out the want for Pontiac to come back. I would like to see the C7 come back as the halo car, a Trans Am, GTO, and a performance-based EV to keep the government auditors at bay. Hear me out with the Pontiac C7. Back in the early 60s Pontiac had a car that was a concept car called the Banshee. Obviously, Chevrolet said no to that, but that car became the 1968 C3 Corvette.
I always felt like they really hurt the Firebird when they gave them the same engine as Camaro. I loved the Pontiac engines. I’ve owned a couple GTO projects. Several Trans Am’s and Firebirds. Just never cared for Mustangs personally. Pontiac designs were iconic. When the killed Pontiac I was stunned and pissed. Nowadays I don’t know if it matters everything is so high priced. Guess we will see what happens.
GM acquired Daewoo and now it’s called GM Korea, then GM needs to acquire Isuzu and turn it into GM Japan and their first car will be the Pontiac Storm for the Japanese market; just like the Geo Storm made by Isuzu to say the same Isuzu factory soon Isuzu becoming GM Japan, then Pontiac will do to Japan on what Buick did to China, so Pontiac sells in Japan and Pontiac sells in America then the Storm will come to the US from Japan as the Pontiac Storm instad of the Geo Storm.
The last Pontiac made was a 2010 G6. The first new Pontiac should be a G6. I’ve driven Pontiac’s for the last 35 years. I was very disappointed when GM discontinued Pontiac.
It would cost a crap-ton of money to reopen Pontiac. And really, couldn't GM address the markets mentioned here with the existing Chevrolet brands like Camaro and maybe a new Chevelle/Malibu design?
To get a performance car from GM is currently very expensive. Corvette or V series Cadillac. Definitely a place for Pontiac, though Oldsmobile was my preference 😊
Like the video, but do have to make one point, as you kinda contradicted yourself in one aspect. You say Buick made it through and not Pontiac in an astonishing sense, yet later say Pontiac was clever in marketing yet not in sales. Pontiac was solidly in 3rd position in sales for many a year, and more specifically at that time it was given the boot to allow for Buick to remain. Yes go figure, to please the Chinese of all people. Call it a business decision and timing with the economy, whatever whatever, that’s another argument. In any case, the point being is you defeated your own argument in saying this, as Pontiacs were in fact still selling.
Loved my mid-00s GTO, it was a Mustang hunter back in the pre-Coyote days. But now that $50K is the new $30K for Mustang GTs, I hate to think what a new Pontiac would cost
I'm highly skeptical about what GM would do if they did bring it back. I can almost guarantee it's not going to be what any automotive or Pontiac fan wants. I bet it's going to be just EV's
I've been a Pontiac / Chevy / Dodge man since my first '78 Rally Sport Camaro in 1984. Dodge Daytonas, Trans Ams, IROC-Zs, Corvettes ... I recently sold everything I had and bought a 2018 Ford Ecoboost Premium Mustang and I have no regrets. If you can't beat them, join them. Even if Pontiac comes back, I don't think I'll go back to GM. I've changed to imports and Ford now because I can't believe the stupid decisions that GM and MOPAR are making these days.
