MAKE SURE YOU ARE WATCHING IN 4K RESOLUTION even if you are not watching on a 4k screen, it will force YT to give you the max bitrate. 1080p RU-vid significantly degrades image quality.
Really glad to see RunCam 5 orange is included in this video and appreciate Joshua's fair review for RunCam 5 orange. Hope it can help some people to choose the most suitable and right product for themselves. And feel free to leave your advice for runcam 5 orange below in the comments, we will look it all through. Thanks again the whole FPV community.
That intro was amazing, the editing is amazing with the gyroflow/ reelsteady overlays and a great review. The GoPro destroys in image quality and that Runcam is very good value for money.
The runcam 5 orange is a rockstar I've been using it for about a year-and-a-half and I love it, especially just for uploading RU-vid videos I can't justify the high cost of a GoPro.
@@suzysheer66 That's awsome, I want I want to figure out how to make a balance lead adapter to power mine from, during long flights on my plane I needed to record for about an hour and the battery doesn't seem to be up to that much.
@@suzysheer66 yeah dude let me know if you try it oh, I was going to try it also but I probably won't have time to get to it for a couple weeks. My thought was using a voltage regulator off of the balance plug on a flight pack
You can remove the internal batteries and wire it to 5v off your FC. It's a pretty easy mod. Also stock a layer of vhb tape over the mic and set the audio mode to normal instead of fpv. I also recommend not fixing the iso on the runcam.

I bought a Runcam 5 Orange based on your recommendation. I really like it. It has worked great for the POV footage I film with my RC crawlers and bashers. Picture quality is outstanding. Best 100 bucks I have spent on a camera. Thanks Josh!!!!
Love the intro 💖😂 The Bones is definitely the winner as far as image quality goes. But I'll keep flying the Runcam Orange for now. I'm not a content creator nor am I a great flyer. And at a $100 or less on sale the Orange is good enough for me. Happy flying Joshua. 👍💖🤓
@@JoshuaBardwell They've been taking forever. It took them 24 hours to process the last 4k vid I posted. I'm glad you didn't wait. Your Belloq was too good to hold onto!
@@JoshuaBardwell when you consider 4K is 4 times bigger resolution than 1080, it means it will be uploading at least 4 times longer. So if it was uploading for example 2 hours in 1080, it will take at least 8 hours to 4K
@@mirekfpv4267 That's not my experience in the past. The upload is in 4k, so all they have to do is re-encode it. But they have super powerful computers that encode zillions of videos 24/7. So it's just a question of when they get around to prioritizing your video.
Being a freestyle pilot has made me realize I don't care about most of this stuff. These days all I care about is will it survive a day at the bando. In my experience, gopros die very very easily, even full heros. I've been flying an action 2 since it came out and it took 5 months for me to kill one. Gopros were lasting me between 2-5 weeks. Also. The dji care replacement is 17£ , 25£ and 33£. So even cheaper per camera than showed.
I'm surprised no one has made a freestyle frame with an integrated naked gopro like the Umma95. Then you'd be able to make a ultra durable camera cage for both your HD and FPV cams while saving weight. Only issue is you need to dissasemble a gopro.
I'm absolutely thankful that at least GoPro is thinking of us! This Bones actually looks pretty good and like the balance hook up! For park fliers bashers I can say the runcam orange is awesome!!! And by the way I did that mod for the mic on the runcam orange that you showed back ago that guy doing at actually works 100%.sooo much better with a great wind filter 💯
Great video man. You kept me engaged the entire time. The beginning was truly exceptional....I love the action2 for FREESTYLE....for anyone who doesn't want to edit a lot, or want to learn how to change every setting, or just want to be able to shoot and go. It's great. If your shooting professionally "with a gopro", any dp or production company will require a gopro hero 10, or want you to fly their cameras.
i skipped the intro, then i saw people say it was cool, then i went back to watch it, and it was awesome! felt like a movie and i've not watched movies in years. kudos on the intro! haha nice.
I have the Runcam 5 orange and really like it for the price. I did just buy my second RunCam Thumb and wish you would have included this in your test. I think that just might have a better picture. Also, I am going to use that jumper now when they get in stock to power it. Thanks for the video.
Joshie ( Australians would call you that), you are becoming crazier and crazier in your intros and I love it. Love your videos. And I am just a newbie. FPV flying is basically not allowed in Australia unfortunately. Thanks mate. Great presentation and teaching style.
Maybe put bonus section at the end of this video by featuring on insta 360 go 2 or caddx peanut 🙂 Which hobbyist can consider since most of their viewer watch their video using smartphone which does not need to be recorded in 4k
Fantastic review and comparison, Joshua! Thanks! 😃 I use a pair of sandals like those inside my house... And I just stapled the heck out of it because I don't want to go out to buy a new pair! 😂 So... I guess the RunCam 5 Orange is the right one for me. After all, I just fly for fun, so who cares? Anyway, I would love if RunCam made a new one with the microphone hack done. You know? Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
I'm not a quad pilot shooting super cinematic footage, but I do fly rc planes, drive rc crawlers, and go fishing. I bring my Runcam 5 Orange along for all of those and it's been incredible for $100.
Been running the bones for a week now. I absalutly love it. It's clearly not meant for freestyle. But all these freestyle pilots are complaining about it. That's clearly not what this was made for! My cinematic shots look so much better with it now. And realsteady 2.0 is insane!
Thank you Joshu Bardwell for saving me from burning out my new Hero 10 bones, I initially plugged it in as you first describe and set up my settings on the Bones but after seeing this video I will use the voltage regulator as you suggested. Why not I already have some from previous naked GoPro projects. Thank you!
Runcam orange is the same as caddx orca, get what's more/cheaper available. But... both are pretty much obsolete if you use one of the good digital fpv camera. Fact. If you fly analog, they are a great option tho!
I plugged my bones in backwards and fried it. of course I had the subscription with what I thought was there " no questions asked" warranty. it's literally says if you break it, we will replace it, no questions asked... of course I understand there is a fee involved to replace a camera if it's not a manufacturing defect, and they list the hero ten black as a 99 dollar replacement fee..I was good with that... here's the catch... absolutely no where does it tell you what the replacement fee for the bones is, which I stupidly assumed was the same as the ten as it's essentially the same camera. yeah...I was wrong... the replacement fee for the bones is $199.00! WTF? I've been dealing with go pro customer service for more than a week and they are the worst...I requested to talk to a manager and they basically said that's not possible. I finally gave in and agreed to the fee... which they stated it's "very well documented internally" what the replacement fee and policy is for the bones. it's absolutely REDICULOUS how they handle it. and the icing on the cake.. when I got my RMA email, it said the fee was now 299 plus another 54 for taxes.. essentially bringing the cost to almost what I paid new! I had to contact their CS yet again... they finally responded a day ago after another 4 days waiting for them to review it internally... they said I am only going to be charged the 199 and they don't know why it says 299. Anyways.. the whole point of this story is that it's been a nightmare of a process to get it replaced and their customer service is absolutely worthless. I hope I don't have to ever deal with them again.. gonna be careful with this replacement.
$199 replacement fee for plugging something in backwards (sounds very easy to do) is insane! I've been happy with the Best Buy TotalTech replacement plan and the low deductibles. Used it multiple times on different devices.
I'd go with the Bones 10 if I had the money to purchase it. For now I'm using my RC 5 Orange. It may not be the best one, but its what I can afford. Excellent review JB & cool intro!
That Intro is awesome! Just for the sake of adding the information: DJI Care for the Action 2 is 25€ for one year. This includes 2 replacements, 1st 19€, 2nd 32 €. After that year you can purchase one more year of DJI Care if you have still one replacement left. As far as i know you can't purchase any more of DJI Care after that.
JB you are my the Man of FPV, you even tell me that I will learn something today when I power on my radio 😜. For me, you are the kind of person that I get all my FPV knowledge from. I do enjoy with all your videos. But this one is the best so far. Congrats
Did you confirm with GoPro that you can replace the Bones via the subscription? A person on Reddit said that a GoPro rep told them it wasn't covered. IDK how reliable that it because Reddit and all, but...
Just purchased a Runcam thumb and stupid me didn’t read the details that there’s no battery and needs 5v from the FC. Oh, I still have your Runcam 3 I won in your giveaway and it’s still going strong.
I dont know the bones seems like a big mismatch between gopro and what the community really wants. Instead of making a product we actually want they are just trying to cash in on what the community does to bridge the gap. And why is it so expensive? Surely with all the waterproofing, battery ect gone they can't reasonably expect the same price.
At the end of the day, GP has shareholders they're beholden to, and quite a large overhead. I'm certain waterproofing and batteries are too cheap to justify dropping the price more. Marketing costs are factored into the pricing structure and they're u likely to budge. I agree with everything else you've said tho.
@Olander I suspect a logistical or re-tooling issue. Also, the terms of agreement/contracts with Chinese factories could be a big factor in why GP just C.B.A. -- Quite sadge, but I welcome new offerings from their more flexible competitors. GoPro just spends too much money on BS.
@Olander If you think anyone outside of the FPV community wants a new session, or that GP not making a new session has anything to do with the companies fundamental issues, I respectfully think you are mistaken.
Here in Europe you can find the Action 2 Power combo for 320-330 euro ~ 350-360$. Plus 36 euro ~ 40$ for 2 years DJI Care. Believe it's a great deal and a excellent camera for fpv. Got me one and haven't regret it yet.. the size is tiny and even my cinelog25 can lift it no problem.
Congrats on the opening sequence! Well made - it's fun to do a little cinema in these reviews, isn't it? Gopro's always had a great advantage over most other cams which you forgot to mention: their stabilization also eliminates Jello! And this is a big issue with most lightweight cams. Not so prominent on the high rpm smaller quads - but for sure inevitable on the larger copters (7"). but even on most of my 5" copters I see jello on the DJI Action2 in certain low throttle situations. other than this - the Action2 is a really good option for me. (the bones isn't because I can't buy it ;) And if you heart this comment again in the middle of the night - I'm suspicious about you using a like-bot ;)
The windnoise on the Bones @20:35 and @22:05 is exactly what I've experienced. I put tape over the mic hole and it was still present.. had to block some of the slits under the mic hole that are used for cooling I assume.
As everyone already said awesome intro JB! For me I’ll keep running my stripped down Hero8 black because I fly bandos. And don’t have the confidence to crash the bones on concrete without Best Buy insurance.
Another small nice thing about the runcam 5 orange compared to gopro's (other than the session) is that it's square, which means that you can film in 9:16 for smartphones, which is way harder to do on a non-square gopro
I absolutely love the bones! Something I don't think was mentioned is bones uses the same lens as Hero9 and Hero10, which means you can use the same ND filters. However, it's not nearly as hard to remove the lens from bones. My experience with bones on my Squirt has been great (my test footage here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vy5w9cHUt0s.html), but I definitely wouldn't fly freestyle with it and it's way too heavy for my micro cine quads. It kind of sits in the 3-4" cinematic niche. Joshua, this intro was one of your best! When I saw the hero session I was dying!
your footage looks really good compared to some others I have seen, the edges look smooth, but why here in JB's video it looks oversharpened and just crappy looking.
@@zacjohnson8404 Thanks! I just spent some time dialing in the settings to get it right in camera. What you're noticing might be from me using the 180 degree shutter rule and using low sharpening on the gopro. Also no automatic settings.
@@JustinormousFPV well done mate yeh that's the way to go. I haven't used a gopro in ages so good to see they still have the ability to lower sharpness, any artificial sharpness looks really bad on action cams imo.
@@flyinbrianproductions4639 Nice! How does it fly? I thought about putting it on my 2.5", but seems borderline too heavy. I might have to try it out because those micro quads are a lot more accepted in public spaces.
I think the Bones is a HIT for me, but my application is purely for professional TV work. It will live on my cinewhoops and 5" builds. Potentially it is also a second angle + gyro logger for a cinelifter.
I built a naked hero 8 with the GEPRC kit and a hero 8 from Facebook marketplace. It was not easy to open up the gopro lol. Those things are are glued and screwed shut very tightly and the screws in the gopro are super soft and strip easily. But once it stripped down it was easy to transplant the components into the GEPRC housing!
