Is Halloween a Thing in Italy?

When I was in Italy the first time from 1981-1983, the only Italians who'd ever heard of Halloween were ones who'd lived in the States and then returned to Italy, Italians who had American friends, and Italians who worked on US military bases. When I moved back in 2014, the dressing up in costumes and trick or treating was everywhere, and this was also my Italian friends--who told me they had trick-or-treating. But you're right, no carved pumpkins or really decorating the house for Halloween. When my wife--fiance at the time--flew over to visit me in the States, it was at Halloween. She watched me carve the pumpkins, and made suggestions for the second one, and helped pass out candy to the trick-or-treaters. I also made sure we watched that classic Halloween movie, Arsenic and Old Lace.

For us Halloween still feels a bit foreign, those that celebrate it here do it for the kids or are immigrants from the countries that do celebrate it.
