Back in 2013/2014 this game was so much fun, and I won a lot in arena runs but also build some fairly competent decks in ranked. But now all I meet are golden players and only get stomped. I tried a bunch of arena runs, still was fun, but had not a single win 🤣 Some of these new cards are utterly insane, I kinda prefer the simpler Hearthstone of back then, heh
I liked it back then when you still had the ethos of creating your own decks. I’ve stopped playing now, but my fave match ups were the rare instance I ran into someone who also created their own deck. You had no idea what cards they were gonna play, end game or tactics. It made the games between us so interesting…. And then after that it would be netdeck, netdeck, netdeck again
I came back and only play classic, and customs with friends now. Standard/wild/arena are unplayable in 2023 imo. Really wish they made a classic arena format, but I get why they won't.
It is slightly ridiculous how as a new player I have not one singular effective deck, constantly getting stomped they need a mode that gives you structure like tavern or choosing some form of load out. They also need to start selling beginner sets for classes so players can at least have some support in learning deck building.
Used to love this game, the last good expansion in my opinion was when C'thun came out. Everything is has kind of gotten out of hand, so many different effects, things seem unbalanced... I miss the days when it was simpler.
ive been getting back in to it after thinking i was done for good years ago, i like how the big meta cards are free in the battle pass but i wish the pass itself was maybe £3/4 cheaper, it’d be a no brainer for me if it was £8/9
Hey, I'm never going to argue against cheaper prices! I don't think the current price is terrible, but slightly cheaper would definitely get more folks to spend, surely? Glad you're having fun!
@@captainbenzie You are brain dead if you spend 1 cent on hearthstone lmao, this game is in such a bad state atm and no signs they will improve it. The battlepass is just a rip off and prices for packs ridiculous.
I jumped off the Hearthstone bandwagon in 2021 after playing it since launch. My decision for doing so came after constantly putting up with Blizzard’s inability to focus test the cards they print for each expansion and responding poorly when the player base complains. That being said, I’m glad that people are still enjoying the game and that they’re trying some new things.
They do tend to do what a lot of "microtransaction" based Devs do. Make something super exciting on launch to get the purchases, then tone it down later. I don't agree with the practice, but it is what it is. It means there's a rough period after every release, but it does eventually even keel.
Do you think the prepurchase bundle is worth it with catch up packs now available? $80 sounds ridiculous, but I’m some what tempted as a brand new player
I spent$20 on a catch up pack after not having played a couple years and i have everything i need. In combination with my old legendaries I dusted, I feel like I'm pretty powerful
I stopped playing Hearthstone years ago, though I've been wanting to jump back in. I remember watching Kripparrian and Trump back in the day, and it makes me happy to see that they're still currently making content on the game. I remember I last ran this meme Murloc deck with Warrior and was able to beat one of those Warlock meta builds (forgot what it was called, but the deck consisted of mostly expensive cards and there was this 4/5 card paired with the 2/3 card that provides taunt to adjacent minions). I was able to aggro him down with Murlocs before we reached end game lol my highlight for sure
You can get it on PC, but not on Steam - same with most Blizzard games. It's almost ten years now so I doubt they'll integrate into Steam any time soon.
yeah I'm just not a fan of battle net. Diablo 4 & Overwatch 2 are on steam and I think people have mentioned that eventually hearthstone will go to steam in the upcoming weeks or months.@@captainbenzie
Have to say when you were talking about covering more games on the channel I did not expect Hearthstone. Honestly i had completely forgotten all about this game.
Honestly 30 health is just not enough, with how crazy the cards are nowadays, sometimes you can finish the game on turn 6 or 7, or loose on turn 6 or 7.
Yup, but that's what aggro does. Plenty of ways to stall and drag a game (I have a really fun long-game Shadow Priest deck that I showcased on this channel, and a few Druid ones too)
you could have at least mentioned here about all the other single player stuff you get now in the game, and all these other options besides "Hearthstone". Really a ton of game here, and it's all free to play
Yup, you're quite right. Whilst I'm not a big fan of Battlegrounds, Heroes, or Arena, I do enjoy the PvE story modes for each expansion and could have mentioned them. All great additions that give players even more to do!!
I was thinking about getting into HS again, you have the only, and perfect video for me Good job on the video! Can you explain standard like what decks are used right now and I Heard the new stuff , I believe is wild has alot of rng in it now and what deck should I be buying right now for standard play,I don't want to waste my money thx.
Worth it probably if you're not going to play ladder and stick to something like mercenaries or battlegrounds xD (and even then mercs are abandoned now). I haven't played since mid 2016 and now play only two these modes, granted it only the third day so far... Actually scrap that, battlegrounds turn timer is so horribly long I regret playing it.
@@captainbenzie I've got used to the timer and now it's good. I play Mercs, Battlegrounds and PvE adventures like Book of Mercs and Book of Heroes, don't even need the ladder :D. The latter can be fun but it's too much brain work for me currently to get around the meta, not interested in it.
I left hearthstone to play legends of runeterra due to the inability to easily create new and creative decks. Hearthstone seems like too much of a pay to play. At least with LOR I can obtain cards easier and the meta is really great.
Yeah but, the game looks ugly, I've never heard of it before, it looks like every other "good card game" that nobody has heard of. It's easy to make a good game, it's hard to make a popular game, Hearthstone for community, irl tcg for sweating
@@selfactualizer2099 if Hearthstone was based on franchise other than Warcraft it would've died way sooner. Same for Nintendo games, some of the laziest recycling in industry based on the legacy of an old trend. Hearthstone Classic when ? *edit Wait, that actually happened already. Nuff said. 😁
Is there a viable BIG deck? I haven't played in years and my favorite were always the big decks. BIG Druid, BIG Priest, BIG Warrior at different stages of standard. I got the closest to Legend with a BIG Druid deck circa 2015-16: Pre-nerf Innervate, Wild Growth, Raven Idol, Faceless Manipulator, Ragnaros, Ancient of War, Big Game Hunter, Arcane Giant, etc. (Wow, I just remembered all these cards and I haven't played the game in 6 years.)
most games in wild end by turn 5-6. Last year in standard in an expansion that probably is the most hated called united in stormwind made the game solitaire. You could OTK opponent with warlock by turn 4. So the game is no longer what you think it is. Stay away at all costs imo.
Thanks for the review Capt. Benzie, I've been undecided between this game and Legends of Runeterra. I'm new to the TCG genre and want to know which game is better to invest my time in. 🙂
I don’t wanna do spam, but I would deeply encourage you both to try Legends of Runeterra deeper, in the game you have access to any deck really soon and the game give you a ton of resources for playing without spending a dime, I started playing 6 months ago, just got 2 battle pass ($20) and with that an playing I have 90% of the cards and do pretty much whatever I want, and the lore in this game is just as deep as Warcraft universe, if you get to scratch a bit about it, so give a try to both and decide, but monetary speaking, legends of runeterra is extremely more accesible than Heartstone
I played this a lot, someone I knew once said in order to play this "the right way" you have to spend money. Told hi no he's wrong and that was 5+ years ago, and today I stand by what I said before. And you just proved it as well, that in order to play this the way 'I' want to play it and have 'fun' I don't have to spend a dime, but by God don't tell him that because to him games like this means you have no choice but to spend as much money as possible to be the best and have fun. Man is clouded I think lol, this game is amazing. Another close to this in art style but way different in mechanics is LightSeekers, give that a go Benzie!
To have fun no you dont have to spend a dime, but to get anywhere near legend it will cost you (a lot) there is a algorythm build in to HS that influences your mmr, your draw and the cards you get out packs based on money spend, and no this is not a conspiracy theory it is a fact some software engineer, reversed engineered it and putted the code on some forums, unfortunatly these forums were forced by the blizzard nazis to take it off immediatly. Yes you get a legend at your first 10 packs of a expansion and there is a pitty timer but which ones do you get ?? and legends are fun but the true power of a decks lays in the rares most of the time which you need multiples of and you get one a pack and again your money spend determines which ones you get first all to let you spend more money on a game that by it self is not worth it.
Isn't the purpose of a game to play for fun? 😉 But yeah, that's my point. I think you can do really well as an F2P player, I have been. Just don't expect to be World #1
i played classic game mode, had many cards crafted in golden. now that it´s gone, my collection feels useless and i effectively can´t play the game. i feel scammed.
@@captainbenzieif you actually played the game, you'd know that classic mode cards' power level is nowhere near the newage wild cards, meaning they're not "usable" at all...
@@vids9190I dusted and crafted:) no money:) appreciate the financial advice though:) And no, I really did no see Blizzard deleting an entire game mode coming. If you did, go buy a jackpot ticket!
I feel like this review was made by someone who watched someone else play Hearthstone but don't understand the whole thing very well themselves. A lot of what's been said is right, but the vast majority is mostly misconceptions.
@@captainbenzie that's pretty disingenuos as most free to play games use the same excuse: anything can be earned if you play enough. This means that you can pay to reach the same goal that you would have reached by playing, thus paying to not play. This is p2w 101 dude, and this is coming from someone who spent next to 1k on hearthstone over 6 years.
Not to mention rotation, the only format where f2p is actually viable would be wild where yes new cards still influence the meta but at least you can rest assured you can still play naxx and gvg cards years from now. Meanwhile in standard whatever you spend your time/money earning will be useless two years from now.
If hearthstone expansions were a one time payment kind of deal and cost let's say 20 bucks I could see the point in investing in the game but as it stands you have to pay AT LEAST the price of a day one AAA release to compete in standard each expansion cycle and to me that is inexcusable
What you are talking about is pay to play, not pay to win. You are not paying for advantage in Hearthstone. Imagine buying 1,000 lottery tickets as opposed to someone who buys only 1. You have the advantage because you bought more, but individually each ticket holds the same standalone value. Now imagine having 1,000 crafted decks as opposed to someone who has only 1. That does not mean having better odds of climbing the ladder, but more options to choose which deck to climb the ladder with. Even in professional Hearthstone most decks can easily be obtained throughout the year. They also provide full dust refund for nerfed cards, but the problem for new players is learning the archetypes and crafting the cards that support meta archetypes (and those who counter them) instead of spending all of the dust on tier 1 decks. It's like investing into the newest trend and hopping on the hype train, only to throw a tantrum when the hype dies. And that kind of crap is what drives people to spend money on games in the first place - not for the thrill of winning, but to chase that high of playing with your shiny new toy for the first time. Investing into your fantasy "avatar" to compensate for the emotional dullness of everyday life, that is the price people are willing to pay for.
the its just a game vibe is stilled in the tv as a satin figure the preborn kids that don't wanna play it are beatin and you get to live on my land huh
I've been D1 for a while until they made the game RNG and P2W. It went from skill to hoping you get good rng based effects of your deck which made the game unbearable for me. It used to be my favorite game and now I cant believe its still being played.
No it is not worth playing in 2023, Blizzard screwed this game up years ago i am playing since beta and over the years HS has become a who has the faster aggro deck, nowadays even control decks with the exception of blood dk maybe can keep up with aggro turn 5, 6 you are just dead. Aggro is a disease that kills hearthstone. I get it Mobile players, right ?? 5 to 6 minute games in your lunch break ?? fuck it if you design games that way, it just screams money grab. Can't take it serious anymore, I was Legend 5 years in a row, now i just play 3 games to complete my daylie quest and don't bother with the weekly ones at all, because the XP track is way less rewarding then grinding 100 gold a day another example of money grab !! And why did they get rid of casual mode ?? they should have gotten rid of ranked then people would actually try out fun decks now everyone just plays meta decks (read dk and pala). So no it is not worth it, if you want to play a serious tcg go play MTG Arena.
It's too expensive!!! I refuse to pay 90-120$ plus every 3 months as well as dusting old cards to keep up with the new seasons meta. DO NOT PLAY THIS GAME!
i prefer magic arena i used to play hearthstone but i got fed up with the how slow you got cards and how few cards you got. atleast in magic arena you get a decent amount of cards for how short you played. the only downside is that you need 4 cards to have like a set
You're joking right now, right? Hearthstone is the most pathetic pay-to-win game. I have not played for two years now, and I want to play again, but I need tonnes of money to get the new cards to play the current expansion.
You don't need money to play the game, competitively nor casually. That being said, I left with 21k dust, can come back anytime and hop into the game, but Hearthstone is a re-skinned Solitaire for years now. Save time, not money and focus your effort elsewhere in life.
it's meh, I don't play it anymore because they took too long to bring good updates and it was often unbalanced while it's decent and more balanced now I don't think it's good for a beginner because it is complex especially a f2p will not enjoy it for long, and I wouldn't recommend the mobile version experience I think if they added a guide that can help you learn the game it would be more motivating but all they seem to care about is constantly sell cosmetics it's kinda over the top lolz
Not P2W 😅 ok so your telling me your enjoying the game without paying then right or you have paid into it and claim its not p2w because you would be wrong 😂
Yes, I'm enjoying the game without paying. Funny that how I can have my own opinions 😂 I play for free, I did a video on how I get my packs, I log in and have fun and have a decent W/L
@@captainbenzie Awe didn’t mean to hurt your feel goods. It isn’t an opinion it’s fact. A game that stops your growth and makes it so you have to put in 3000 hours to play a half a decent build is by definition play to win. Next you will tell us dbd isn’t play to win 👌🤣 have a nice life. Probably the only YTer to be so worried about their image they got to reply to a hate comment. Do yourself a favor just leave it at the first comment cuz I could run circles around ya.
@@ax7player728 I reply to all my comments and pride myself on my community interaction. And your "opinion" is that it's pay to win... Yet without paying, I'm still winning and having fun so, uh, what? Your opinion falls flat in the face of evidence. Wild? Yeah sure, pay to win. I'll give you that. But NONE of the solo modes, nor standard. I play, I earn free rewards (as detailed in other videos) and climb just fine. So MAYBE it's just that you suck and you're looking for a scapegoat to explain that away? Dunno man, just saying.
Eh, I disagree. If I can play and have fun, and win, without spending, that's good enough for me. Sure, can you pay to get everything? Yeah, but that's beyond my point. I'm not saying it's NOT pay to win, I'm saying you can have plenty of fun and still win for free
