I’m an Aussie Indian, my dad ensured I must learn the basics of Hindi & Punjabi. He invested ( his energy & money) a lot to fulfil his wish. He hired 2 different tutors for me to learn both Indian languages. I studied Spanish & English at school. I’m so grateful to my dad for putting extra efforts for me to learn my mother tongue. Trust me, I feel so proud in speaking in Hindi when I visit India. Punjabi is my family’s native language but dad respects Hindi. Actually, he believes every Indian must at least understand Hindi well. I’m not fully agree with it but I don’t argue with him & accept it for the sake of his feelings. I can communicate, comprehend & write in 4 different languages. Hindi, Punjabi, Spanish & English.

I really have high respect for Chinese, Korean & Japanese for giving respect their own language and not influence by shitty western culture !

Best example is Neeraj Chopra Sir, anywhere he is, he just proudly ask the front person to ask/speak in Hindi

If you're Indian and you don't know Hindi, then communicating with another Indian who doesn't know your native tongue then speaking English is obvious and natural. At that time it becomes a necessity, not a luxury. I ranted about the people who treat English as a thing of pride and importance while demeaning their own native tongue.

I'm from Bihar and had been to every state of country almost...... And most easy communication language is English/Hindi then native language. Also Hindi is not our national language but official language.... I think we should give respect to people's native language and try to learn them as a contribution to their culture.

Not only Hindi...every local/regional language and dialect must be given its respect. I have faced and heard many people disrespect people who do not know Hindi.

I'm from Northeast India. But I studied mostly in Bengal and Andhra Pradesh. My father used to travel me from home to my school everytime I went and come. He spoke broken English and Hindi but with that bit of what he knows he made me study in the finest school. I have and will always admire his courage and dedication. Yeah sometimes I correct him but never felt embarrassed.

My mother tongue language is bengali and I'm very happy to see my mother tongue is 5th largest speaking language 2:48 and I also pursing my post graduation degree in this language. And I never feel any ashamed of it. Although the people around me doesn't think the same. That's the most disappointing thing.

Whether it's English, Bengali or Hindi, I always try to use purity of that language which is by not using a word of other language, but it's really tough😂 and I slam those by words who shift to English from vernacular language in the middle of a conversation.

Its about public perception. My hindi teacher once said " I respect people who speak actual hindi not a mix of western lingo and hindi." It feels great surprise people with good hindi vocabulary.... never felt shame speaking ...

Just one thing I would like to say: "Language is not a scale to measure your intelligence,it's just the medium of communication." But when it comes to our mother tongue,its not just a language,its a lot more than that; it's an emotion,a sensation and the foundation to which the roots of our very existence,nationality and ethnicity lay in. Every language has its own beauty and we should always respect it regardless of what others think or say or believe because if you can't respect your mother tongue,you can't respect your nation. जय हिन्द!🚩 जय भारत!🇮🇳

Language is for communication and it should not be used as status symbol, But most people are judgemental in india 🇮🇳 , English is treated as superior language compare to other languages in India , this mentality is not good. I hope this mentality will change 🙏

As a non native hindi speaker I want to say 2 things. If you are speaking in hindi with a video title in English atleast put subtitles in English. It will help you on reaching wider audience. People especially the young gen think they are speaking hindi buy actually they are just speaking a mixture of hindi Urdu and English. Many things for which Hindi words are not used frequently they directly use English words. Might be better of you completely learn one language and speak that only.

In our school students were used to be fined for speaking Punjabi here In Himachal( In private schools).Teachers used to say that it is indecent to speak in Punjabi.This practice is still going on.

In the school of jhansi it's very much popular their teachers always speaks in English. When I was in 9th standard I was weak in speaking English. For childrens like me teachers use to speak in English always , they always wants their school childrens to represent English one teacher scolded a student for not understanding English , but she didn't scolded another student for not knowing the meaning of our mother tongue -rath ...this is our India this is the city of Rani laskhmi bai 👍

Though I am writing this in English.. but iska matlab ye nahi ki mujhe apni marta bhasha pyaari nahi...what i don't like about English is that even if you manage to learn English words...there will be so many instances where you will get the pronounciation wrong... Eg. BUT and PUT have same vowel, they have different sound... and no one knows why is it so..??bas yaad karlo aise hi hota hai...Hindi mei ham jo likhte hain usko waise hi bola jaata hai... School expectations - have good command over English Society expectations - have good grip over Hindi family expectations - learn to deal with mother tongue (generally regional languages). It takes years to learn a new language and India expects us to know 3 language

I agree with many things you say. Indians across state borders consider English as a status symbol and everyone aspires to be fluent in English. But this sentiment isn't limited to only native speakers of Hindi. I feel your message would have come across stronger if you focused on holding your native language (be it any, not just Hindi) over English, a language of necessity that connects the country. English is eroding Hindi knowledge among the urban young in cities, agreed. But wouldn't you agree that Hindi is doing to other languages what English is doing to Hindi? Bihari people are made to feel embarrassed for talking in their native tongue. It has similarities with Hindi but differences in syntax and grammar. Instead of giving it equal respect they're called gawar anpaad for talking in 'impure Hindi', nevermind the fact that this is what is correct to them in their language. Many people are abandoning their native tongues for Hindi because of this societal pressure. You mentioned that there exists a class divide in India. In some people's minds this divide actually looks like: English speakers-> first, Hindi speakers-> second, other major regional languages-> third and the so-called 'dialects' of langauges-> fourth. These classes should be eliminated entirely and all languages should be put on equal footing. But by highlighting only Hindi, I feel like what you're suggesting is Hindi along with English should be put on the first pedestal and other languages should come after them. I apologise if this wasn't what you meant but I felt this was implied throughout your speech. In my India, no one should be forced to learn a language other than their mother tongue to have a normal life. Regards.
