Caves are where its at. They are behind rock walls that look different, like a cave should be there. There is also an underwater cave in the lake. Be careful in the caves though cause there are ranged alien enemy stalks that are like turrets kinda. You also get pneumonia if you spend too much time in there without the right protection. The entrance of a cave is a based building spot however. If you can find that line where you are covered but not at risk of pneumonia, its a great place to build a base that the storm won't destroy. Once you unlock the dehumidifier you can expand back into the cave a bit. Great protection from weather and fauna.
I gotta say, I'm really looking forward to an ongoing series with this game. There is a lot of content by the looks of it. I'm excited to see where this series goes!
Few tips , for fast leveling kill animals as much as possible and gut em / collect bones , predators give specially good exp vs herbivores. Later on you can unlock mission board that gives random missions which are good exp. Avoid snow areas before you get more better armor for it (you will die there otherwise). Caves behind rockwalls (check maps for more info) has metals which you will need later on to craft iron gear etc. Please do more icarus gameplay , good change for all 7DTD content. Oh and when putting camp fire inside house (you will need for sleeping) take care to not put it near any containers etc or your house will burn down 🤣
I’m so glad I found one of my go to gamer RU-vidrs I watch playing this game, it’s one of my absolute favourites! Also as soon as you were like ‘it’s a horse thing’ I was like NO ITS A WAR DONKEY RUN😂 (and whenever you find the weird emu ostrich things - I refer to them as murder chickens because they’re the freaking worst unless you tame them lmao)
First! Think KNIFE. Stab and dodge, rinse repeat. The knife is borderline OP for defense. Make 2 and keep'em repaired. Second! Harvest nodes to completion and stop letting your wood despawn. Chop it gather it and STACK it. Third! Thatch is the worst material and very susceptible to damage. Get to wood then STONE asap. Last! Keep up the great content.
You can pull down building parts by looking at them and pressing 'Y'. You'll get all the parts back in your inventory. Handy if you misplace a wall etc. So glad you're doing a series on Icarus 👍
I came to the comments so quick to say this as well. nothing frustrated me more in the early game than tearing down the walls I accidentally placed haha
i am kinda wanting to play Icarus. But seeing a game that hides part of the map behind a paid DLC is kind of a bummer. And that the basegame plus DLC´s together costs over 100 bucks doesn´t make it better. How much do i get just playing the base game?
@@pApA0LeGBa the paid DLC is a whole different map. in base game you have Olympus and Styx maps and you can craft like 80% of research tree. also you have almost 100 missions in base game so plenty stuff to do
I just got this game last night and have to thank you for this, going to come in handy when I get home. 😂 Definitely a learning curve to this game, forgot to unlock the torch so I’m stuck in the pitch black waiting for daylight.
@@pApA0LeGBa don’t worry it’s not behind DLC, been out for a bit now and they released their first real money content. They have been giving everything free for first year for players playing it then but if you get into it now I don’t think it’s all free anymore.
Looks like Ark without Dinosaurs, down to the green-outlined building pieces, the way resources collapse after collection, the whole shebang. Can't wait to see what else is up with the game.
yeah, a lot of games have adopted the fortnite/ark/conan/etc building system. The mining and cutting the trees, then the logs is a great touch. To me, the real star of this game is the weather system. I've never played another game with such detailed weather. The flash storms and the blizzards are truly great. There is a LOT of progression in the game so it gives you plenty to progress towards, there are waterwheels, generators, farming, animal taming, lots of production chains, cave exploring, and missions if you build the radio, that all make this game even more enjoyable.
Just started watching, tip, thatch will get damaged by weather so may want to upgrade son. If not already done! This is a good game btw! look forward to seeing more
Yes Thatch is kind of a waste of points as it catches fire on almost immediately if struck by fire and takes alot of damage in storms. Wood has the same issues but its more "durability" than thatch. Mainly want to beeline for level 10 (tier 2) and work on stone buildings.
I love Icarus. I started playing somewhere mid-way between launch and the newest expansion. My first impressions weren't great, mostly because it didn't run great. I picked it back up after a few months and a GPU upgrade and I've thoroughly enjoyed it. I also enjoyed your initial playthrough. I think the video editing greatly aids the content to where it's engaging and immersive, almost as if we are joining you on your journey. Well earned sub from me. Keep up the great work!
Absolutely love this! I’ve had Icarus in my steam store for forever but I kept hearing how wonky it was so I’m so glad you decided to start this and I hope it’s a long series!!
Icarus is in my opinion one of the best survival games. The grafic is awesome and the tech-tree is endless. A tip, a way to collect better fiber is if you unlock the sickle. I can't wait to see more!
I actually started playing Icarus after watching this. I was reluctant when it first came out because of the lack of an option to stay based planet-side, but this is clearly no longer an issue. Love the high-quality content, as usual!
you can build a radio and take on missions. Some of them are pretty intense, especially the Vapor condensor mission in which you place the condensor over a geyser and this "disturbs the wildlife" and basically you have waves of creatures that try to destroy the machine so it becomes a tower defense game of you fighting of dozens of increasingly harder animals each wave. There are also "monster hunts" where you can hunt some very dangerous boss monsters that are much bigger, dangerous and often have hordes of helpers. Pretty hard until you get into the firearms age of the game. Overall the game is pretty much a simple survival game with beautiful graphics and a lot of workstations and things to build but not much to progress towards.. but the missions do add a lot of variation to it to help it keep from getting stale too fast.
I'm glad to see you playing Icarus! I bought while back as well and let it sit until I saw the updates being played in some let's plays. I suck at it but I am loving it overall.
Also, talking about floating bases, towards the end. All pieces have to be supported, much like 7d2d every material type has a limit to support. a 2x3 is small, but there are a LOT of workstations in this game so your final base will probably be a 10x10 or bigger and at that size, you need proper supports or your roof will cave in. Also flash storms will damage wood. Concrete is one of the best mediums as metal bases are dangerous in their own ways but very poor at insulation so almost unusable in hot or cold biomes. Until you can build concrete bases, I'd recommend a lightning rod or 2 to save your base from the inevitable lightning strike. Also drinking water directly from the lake is what gave you dysentery. It's not that bad of a debuff but if you want to avoid it, you can make a rain reservoir.
NIce to see you give this game a try. It is currently one of my favorite games. I am impressed with how well you grasped most of the concepts of the game as well as the mechanics. A few tips to help A sickle allow you to gather more plant fibers as well as more fruits and berries. Use it as often as you can. Stone building is unlocked at level 15. Upgrade to that as soon as you can so your structure can handle the weathers. Also, keeping stuff by the windows will damage them during bad weather. There is a shutter you can build when unlocking the half roof stuff I think. Easy to check when you hover over it. Bacon give you, i think, 15% xp bonus when consumed. Since boars are near where you have settled, you will have a nice access to those. The Terrenus is a new creature added to the game. Along with the Buffalo/Bison and the Moa, you can get their kids to follow you back to your base and then with the right unlocks you can tame them and eventually ride them as they grow up. Bison is your workhorse. Slow with lots of storage (Once you place a saddle or storage pack on it), the Moa have little storage, but is quick. The Terrenus is the one in between. All those creatures are vegetarian and need veggies or fruit, and water. Some items are only available in the new Prometheus map, when you look in the tech tree you see some of the unlock cards have a symbol on the upper left. Those are part of the DLC. Scorria, Clay, and Obsidian is only available on the Prometheus map. The update that was released today allow you to do missions for REN (Ingame currency), the missions are available from the Short range Radio you can craft, and give you a small REN reward as well as some useful items. Later you can use these RENs to buy stuff on the station workshop and have it shipped down to you on the planet. Need a unlock that is above the Short range radio in the tech tree. Once you hit level 10, I advice you to unlock the top left items first. The oxygen bladder, the water reservoir, the water skin and the oxite disolver. Combine these to make container that can hold oxygen and water. The reservoir fills up during rain storms, or you can drop ice in there. But it only work if there is a container in there. The ice you gathered can be smelted over the campfire, but need a container for the water, so not that useful until level 10. You can also unlock a freeze box to keep the food lasting longer. The salt is super useful. with the right unlock you can keep your food lasting 10x longer. 1 salt is needed per unit of food, works on raw, cooked or dried food. Even work on the food you give your pets (If you go that route). The salting station I think is in tier 1, so shouldn't be to difficult to get hold off. Spoiled food is useful to make fertilizer, but I do find that the crop planted grow quite fast as it is. Be mindful if you do go farming, that leaving the plant in the pot will keep it growing, but there is a debuff added. Harvesting the plant with a sickle increase your chance of getting another seed, so jank the harvested plant up, and replant from fresh to get rid of that buff. When mining, try and completely remove the node. You hear a slight different sound as it is removed, and you get a xp boost on the final whack. Can check the xp gained in the upper left corner. Last advice or tip is to check the unlock to expand your storage. Don't recall which talent tree it is in, but it is on the right side of the talents trees. 1st unlock grants you a few extra slots per [new] container you build, and the second will add even more. Think a total of 10 extra slots. Only work on storage built after you got the talent, not ready built ones.
This is cool! I remember back before, fire and bears were constant threats, and they would win. So far it looks very playable. The game itself looks amazing.
hey tem Just so you're aware If LIghtening Hits your Thatch House It can catch fire so Make sure You're not storing anything Important in your base I'd use the ROck you tunneled into for your stuff
I'm so glad you're taking a crack at Icarus now that they've released their largest update. For anyone who doesn't know, the devs release an update EVERY week since it was released.
Looks solid, if not a bit overwhelming possibly. The only thing that gets me is the immersion of landing on a planet and only having access to stone age equipment? Or maybe I do not know enough about the game. Like the next planet you have the gear you worked towards?
if you do the missions mode or even build the radio in open world and take on missions to get exotics, you can travel to your space station and trade the exotics for stuff more like you'd expect. You can get MUCH better suits with multiple slots (like food and water slots, multiple oxygen slots, etc.) You can get guns, better tools, etc. as well. Then any time you start a mission you can choose what you've bought to bring with you. I do agree with the sentiment somewhat as I feel it'd feel more immersive to start on the planet and build your ship to get off the planet and get better stuff.. or start with a crash landing scenario to explain the no tools despite traveling there. Overall it doesn't break the immersion much as you can make whatever backstory you want to explain it. Maybe it's a way to prove you're good enough to deserve those things by proving your worth first.
Love Icarus, it's somehow simultaneously a vibe and completely stressful and terrifying. It's also beautiful, lots of progression, easy world to get lost in... in both the good and bad way. There isn't enough love out there for Icarus in the genre. I think at some point you can craft a radio and be transmitted missions while in the open world mode, but I'm not 100% on that. Enjoy it.
This game looks great, if it’s out on Playstation I buying it! Thanks for featuring it. What a gorgeous location you chose for your home! Edit: It seems that this is only available on PC . My hard luck!
The answers is yes. The game was great on release. Very beautiful! But what was missing was 2 things open world & excitement. Wolfs and bears got boring. Very boring.. then the fact there was no open world at all was just ridiculous. But finally after years they added open world and excitement with the new map. The game came a long way. It wouldve been bigger though if they started with open world and more deadly creatures. I love this games so much
Nice to see, that you give Icarus another chance. They worked hard on improving. Just a little bit sad, that you didn't chose the new Map, because on the new Map they finally added alienlike creatures and the Operation System which lets you play a little storyline and earn in-game cash even in open world. Icarus happens to be a grindy nice survival game which improves week over week so I'll be happy to watch you play more. By the way there are fish tanks to watch your best caught fishes :D
the problem that i had with this game, is that you can find everything (or almost) in less than 10m walking, played it for like 50 hours and never felt that it was hard
This is a good game - have played it for a while. Multi player is very good and the missions do reward you with far better starts. Replayabilty is high.
I really enjoy those Arklike games, specially when they start to diferentiate from Ark itself in their own unique ways, like Conan did go all in combat, this one seems to have a lot of character progression Ireally hope we will get a game with all the best things someday, like, Ark's taming and stuff, conan variety of weapons and armor and stuff, more of the skilling and progression on this... Anyways, cool game
Always Always Always do the first mission on the first of the three maps. It will explain much of what you need to survive. Then after that feel free to explore
I have tried 3 separate games, all on the easy world. Each game, within the first 5 minutes, I am attacked by animals over lvl 20. The first time, 3 wolves. The second world was just 2 wolves. The last world was some weird lvl 34 horse thing that ran across a lake to attack me. Fuck this game. I've never refunded a title so fast in my life.
Honestly Icarus is one of the better survival games. It looks pretty fantastic, love the weather effects in it, the crafting is nice, food system is good, love the quests and so on as well. cool features in the game.
6:08 I heard this and immediately recognized the song but could t remember the name of it, any help with the name of the song and what game? My brain is saying divinity 2 but I think that’s wrong
There seems to be plenty vegetation and plenty of wildlife. So there definitely is oxygen in the air on that planet. Analyze the air to see if it is safe to breath. If yes, take off the helmet. If not, research your way up to cryogenic distillation and get oxygen directly from the air.
Last time I've played Icarus, it was at week update number... 53... If I remember correctly. Maybe I'll reinstall it when I'll finish with Starfield... Someday ! 😂
hi all. probably noone see my message but just in case . . . I enjoy watching these type of games on youtube. Pls recommend me more games to watch like this. I have watched ark, stranded deep (and have played too), and now icarus. Pls recommend me some more :)
I personally love Icarus but my laptop doesn’t 😂because I don’t have the minimum graphics requirements and the upgrade cost almost as much as the laptop itself
