Are you wondering if India is a safe travel destination? I had the same doubts before going - especially as a female solo traveler. But after spending a significant amount of time traveling across the country, I can confidently say it was nowhere near as intimidating as I had imagined from what I’d read online.
Every doubt I had was met with nothing but incredible hospitality, friendliness, and help whenever I found myself lost. As someone who loves learning about cultures different from my own, India was a dream come true! Every day brought new discoveries, from vibrant celebrations and festivals to delicious, diverse foods. And after traveling to so many beautiful destinations like Karnataka, Kerala, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh…I find myself wondering why India is still underrated in 2024.
That’s why I wanted to share my journey full of real-life experiences to help you see India in a new light - just like I did. Whether you are a solo traveler, a family, or a couple, maybe it's time to consider adding India to your 2024 travel list: an unforgettable adventure waiting to happen :)

Very excited to start sharing my travels across India! This is just the beginning - next episode in 2 weeks :) Edit: I see there’s been some discussion about the map used in the intro, so I wanted to clarify that I didn’t create it myself. The map is from the website 'The True Size' (www.thetruesize.com/) and was used simply to illustrate how big India is compared to other countries. I understand that some map representations can be sensitive or controversial, but I promise my intention was never to provoke or take any side. Thanks for understanding, and I really appreciate all your feedback!

I think when people come to India they should look at each state as a country because each state has different people from skin color to religion, culture, language, etiquettes and beauty. If tourist would judge India as a whole it would be difficult. ------------ People of U.P for example is totally different from people of Karnatka in every sense from their daily life and world view. Same goes for Nagaland and Ladakh. ----------------------- Some places where even indians would be scared to go. But some places are tourist friendly. At some places people consume meat more and at some places people dont. Some state liquor is banned at some places it is consumed widely. --------------------- At some places girls feel unsafe and at some places they can move freely. ---------------------- At some places people are more fascinated with foreigner white skin and would not leave you and ask for photos and at some places they won't. So when tourists come please dont make a mistake and jump on the city where everyone goes. Research a little more and go on unexplored places. 1st less people and more friendly faces who geniuenly care and not there to scam you. ----------+++--------- State wise comparison would be the best measurement to judge. Thank you

No full stops in India as Mark Tully once wrote. This land is so diverse that any experience you have an equal opposite is also true. And that makes it a strange incomparable place with as you say 'no baseline can prepare you for'. To the world travelers planning their first or next visit to Bharat (that is India), either in a group or solo, please do stray away from the touristy places. Stay at homes and just don't indulge only in budget travel. India offers your some of the finest experiences in the world as well. Namaste and thank you Sophia for sharing your honest first experience.

Is India safe? Mostly yes. But avoid some states if you can like Bihar, Jharkhand, Chaatisgarh and Uttar Pradesh's rural areas. Those are the areas where the population is insanely high and concentrated with lesser development along with rural areas not being that well connected. I am from Uttar Pradesh so I know it for a fact. The worst turist trap is the Delhi-Rajasthan-Agra/Varanasi trap. If you go to Delhi, just take a bus up north into the Himalayas, would be much more worthwhile. Varanasi is not for everyone and the infra sucks there. I was born and brought up there and that place has gone downhill in the past 10 years. Used to be much more quaint, free thinking and nice but now is just overcrowded with tourist who are mostly religious conservatives. I have myself been living in Bengaluru, Mumbai and Hyderabad. Still the best place to visit is Kerala in India along with Meghalaya. If you get a chance do visit any of the music festivals in India's North East like Ziro festival or Hornbill Festival. Those are some of the best festivals. Sikkim is a hidden gem that people do not visit generally but is bonkers good.
@SophiaGarbay
@SophiaGarbay 13 дней назад
Thank you for your recommendations! I have been to some of the places up North you listed, like Uttar Pradesh/ Agra and all, and I agree that the difference could be felt. Especially compared to Kerala. India's so complex and huge...it took me a lot of research beforehand to decide where to go! So thanks again for taking the time to write this down, I'm sure it will help people :)
@rishiraj3351

Well what happened,we concerned about that and things will be better But please don't EXAGGERATE about it, OKAY!!!! That's west bengal and we can expect such things ,when you have demon government there But it's not the same case in every state, Don't talk like a nonsense and be more understanding about every state of India you Indian. You don't have any idea with such comments, you making bad image of our country around the world which is not happening in every state or every place. You just scaring foreign girls and visiters... And if you look at Australia , it happened in a parliament,then I would suppose that whole Australia is not safe right!!! But no you will still have a good feelings for Australia because of your mindset. And one more case... during Olympics in Paris, a tourist girl was raped by some people but no one talked about it because western media knows how to hide their own faults and make money showing negative news from India which easy to target and you are helping them with your less knowledge.

Every solo traveller should take care of themselves, no need to say that. No place in the world is safe, anything can happen with anyone, it actually depends upon the traveller how he/she is handling the situation. Some vloggers are extremely biased. If you type Bhutan travel in English on RU-vid you will see Kamiya Jani giving tips about travelling in Bhutan and many American vloggers have admired Bhutan but their videos have only become popular among Indians and Bhutanese people. Just type Travel Bhutan in Russian and you will see a video by Illya Varmalov titled "Bhutan: Himalayan Paradise or cold, poor and repressive shole?" That video is full of lies about Bhutan and it has 5 million views. Bhutan is a middle income country and is in no way poor. They can become high income if they have 6-8% GDP growth for 25 years. Then Bhutan is a constitutional monarchy and it is like Denmark on paper. They are not even among the worst 50 countries of the world in terms of corruption, rule of law, political rights and civil liberties. In the Bertelsmann Transformation Index they are in blue category with India, Taiwan, Botswana, Costa Rica and Chile. All repressive countries are in red category. Also, if you consider Bhutan a shole why you spent US$ 1600 there? The problem with that guy is that if he went to Bhutan and shared his travel experiences he would have only got 20k-30k views. In order to get millions of views he created negativity, pushed shock and churned sensationalism. Then one Russian guy commented under his video that after watching you in Sri Lanka, India, Bangladesh and Bhutan, I have decided not to visit any South Asian country. This is just like telling Tyler Oliviera that after watching your videos in USA, Canada, Mexico, Jamaica and Haiti, I have decided not to travel North America.

In Mumbai and Chennai I can say it is safe. I've never seen any eve teasing or attacks against women, I also never heard any woman or girl around me complain about feeling unsafe or having bad experiences so I can confidently say such things don't happen atleast in the areas where I lived in (Thiruvanmiyur in Chennai and Kandivali East in Mumbai). I think it is the case for most places in India. You hear a lot of these incidents in the news but you are unlikely to experience such things in regular day to day life.

There r many clean areas in India too like Indore, South Bombay, BKC, Gurugram etc, but in some areas where amount of population is too high, there is an issue with cleanness and yes we need to improve in those areas, but Social Media only highlights the 'Negative' areas of India in such an intensity that foreigners don't even believe that the above mentioned cities even belong to India. There was a Movie Character in India who was a Handicap, who used to make Flat Breads using his armpits( obviously it isn't real, its a movie) yet it has been portrayed in Social Media in Such a way that the person is real.
@SophiaGarbay
@SophiaGarbay 11 дней назад
That's my understanding as well. It doesn't do justice to all the clean places which remain unknown. And I've actually heard about that clip! 😅

4:18 That is mindblowing, You are getting to witness the “YAGYA” of Hindu Tradition which dates back to thousands of years & the mantras which you are hearing are from the “VEDAS”…The chanting are amazing even for the Hindu people as we don’t witness it on a regular basis in such an intimate way… P.S. The mantra which you are hearing right now is “MAHA MRITYUNJAY MANTRA” a part of RudraAstadyayi which derived it source from YajuraVeda…This mantra is believed to heal the body & mind, legends says that it can also trick the death itself. This is the actual chanting from which this mantra is taken : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XLoJUgBEnIg.htmlsi=N7Ry34_BwGlEw1MU

I've been to UK. I'm Indian. I found that UK is more dangerous than India in every way. In UK everyone is just quite about all their issues whereas they look down on India. The truth is just like every country you should research for good places to visit and bad places to avoid and everything will be fine. I've found that theres more scope to be good and have better future in India than in anywhere in the world. Most lf the world thinks its already up there and hence there isn't much room for change. India need not become like the west but the party and drug culture of west is not obviously helping india in any way. I dont like these druggies of the west and everywhere.

they were so confused cause its a typical thing that foreigners when eat dosa or other things they eat it like taco / roll and eat whole piclke pieces indivisually and eat a whole tablespoon of just chutney and for them its like even a 2 yr old toddler will eat dosa by tearing it into pieces and appying chutney like you apply wasabi to sushi so its awkward for them to teach you a basic thing thats why they are laughing and just friends things nothing else all the best for your journey also india is safe if you take safety seriously and not take it for granted

This is a country with 1.4 billion people, do you expect all of them to have the same level of, education, wealth, and wisdom and anything else, this is India, here things work on collective consciousness. Anything you can imagine can happen to you here good or bad. So my advice to you would be better be careful while wandering around. Always focus on your surroundings. Only go to places where you feel comfortable. Never try to be oversmart, and over adventures. I have travelled across India , and believe me most of the Indians don't have experienced the whole of India.
