When I tell people I'm traveling alone in India, this is one of the first things I'm asked. So today I decided to talk to a fellow female solo traveler to get her opinion. We discuss our experiences traveling around India alone, as women. Is it as dangerous as some people think?

A pro tip for all the girls/women # avoid dark places and don't roam around after 12 at night in remote/outskirts areas alone. Though towns and cities are too safe. # if you anytime just feel unsafe just yell help! Help! You'll see a crowd running at you to help you (benefit of large population) # use ola cabs or ola autos if low on budget. # if anyone stares you, try to understand the way you're being stared. 95% of stares are friendly. Just smile back and walk your way.

Lillie...nice video! Hilarious stuff at 5:35 😊. I'll tell you a story - I visited China in 2014 with my family. Beautiful place, very nice people, and we had a great time. So we were at the Fragrant Hills in Beijing, and a group of Chinese women appeared, and started staring at us non-stop, to the point that we felt distinctly uncomfortable. Finally, one of them approached us and in broken English explained to my sister that they loved Indians and would we mind if they could have a picture taken with us? And they were delighted when we complied. So I guess its just natural curiosity among the local people when there is an "exotic" person around. In the West and especially in the US, with so many people from different cultures around, that natural curiosity doesn't exist. Hope you understand, and happy traveling! :)

I often tell people: DON'T GO TO INDIA. I see many videos lately and they all seem to be click baits. For example, women travelers despite repeatedly being told not to travel in crammed up 3rd class train compartment where people are packed like sardines, do travel and then make videos of being groped even though it would feel the same if you were a man. Or someone decides to play Holi with a bunch of drunk strangers on the street and then complain about being groped. Holi is a festival where there is a fair amount of body contact just like La Tomatina. But that doesn't seem to stop these travelers to do it and then make a video complaining about it. Still some decide to hitchhike at 1 AM in the morning, which you don't do in your country, and then complain of being molested/kidnapped. Some stay in shady places and then complain that someone made unwanted advances towards them etc. What is common in all these cases is that they make a prompt video and get a million views often with Indian men and women begging for forgiveness for something they haven't done. It also invites a lot of anti-indian bashers. If this is not a click bait, I don't know what is. So the bottom-line really is that as a traveler you have to learn to be responsible for your own decisions. If you decide to check into a cheap hotel, stay in shady neighborhoods to save money, travel in crammed up compartments to travel cheap, chow down roadside food because its cheap, go out in the middle of the night and hitchhike with strangers, decide to climb up on the edge of buildings to make cool videos, go to party towns and complain that men are hitting on you, not carrying spare supplies and then go to the local store and complain about being ripped off with cheap Chinese counterfeit, AND YOU THINK THAT THE ENTIRE COUNTRY IS RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR PROBLEMS, THEN PLEASE DO NOT GO TO INDIA. PACK UP AND LEAVE IMMEDIATELY. And most definitely don't make videos whining (after intentionally putting yourself in a situation despite being told over and over again not to do) to get mouse clicks from Indians. This is an exploitation of their curiosity of their country by constantly spouting negative news so that they come to your channels. The same is done by the western media as well. Its outright DISGUSTING.

Just be alert be confident and start from south India dear it's way better and then go to Rajasthan Himachal ladakh. It's beautiful.

Roman is really cute! ;) The reason this mentality exists that western women are "easy" is mostly due to the media, western media is full of sex and portrays women in that light and unfortunately it creates this false impression.
@45HatesOurVets
@45HatesOurVets 6 лет назад
sbkpilot11 ...... I have a question you! You said the media is full of sex here in the west and that's why the women are portrayed as easy.... but I noticed something. I can pick up my local newspaper here in the USA and read it without seeing anything sexual. I can read the news and it will be ABOUT THE NEWS. I admit unfortunately a lot of it is about crime, corruption and politics....but it is all NEWS. But anytime I had TRIED to read your newspapers while in India, especially online - The Times of India - I find it just filled with scantily clad women. Mostly about beauty pageants, dating sites, silly soap opera drama, or all the latest useless information about Bollywood stars. And the amount of articles about sexuality - I have to look twice to make sure I had the right news site..... I thought maybe I ended up on some Cosmopolitan Magazine or something...haha. For instance, just recently there was an article in the TIMES of INDIA on `urinary tract infection' --- I couldn't believe my eyes what I was seeing as the photo for this article. They had to have a young Indian woman sitting on a western toilet, knees crossed with her pants down below her knees and her underwear down to above her knees. I was thinking really???.... seriously??? A young beautiful girl with her pants off is necessary for this article??? Im sure it has to do with `all that sex she has' too. This was the last straw... I decided I will never go to their site again. What is your take on this? Or anyone for that matter. Is it because the TIMES of INDIA is possibly linked with Bollywood and it's a whole different culture just like our Hollywood is a whole different culture? I'm very confused about how such a conservative and censored country can display so much sex in their media. I don't understand this paradox. Im sorry, I'm assuming your from India ☺
@ruanpingshan
@ruanpingshan 6 лет назад
Michelle Primer: My impression of the Times of India is that they think that by being more like Cosmopolitan Magazine, they're more "hip" or more in line with mainstream culture. I remember a time when it wasn't like that, but now everyone in my neighborhood makes a face when you mention the Times of India. The same goes for Bollywood -- people have complained for years that the quality didn't match Hollywood, and the movie producers thought the sex scenes were the missing ingredient.
@TheJainmehul

Nice observation about india. In fact very precise. I have seen foreigners like u struggling for little things in my country. Some of the most preferred tourist destinations have become centres of treachery and corruption. Local people of these places sell cheap things at exhorbitant rates to u people as u are supposed to be extremely rich. U may be off course, but what i believe is in equality. In fact its high time that foreigners from all over the globe should change their preferences about tourists destinations in India. Try to go to some eastern an southern states next time. Even these states are full of tourist spots. Believe me u will see a different India! An india which is honest and which doesn't discriminate people by the color of their skin. In fact its u tourists who have made some undeserving people very rich so u must show them the mirror now. Remember two names 1. Oyo rooms and 2. Ola cabs. U will easily find them on the net. They really provide satisfactory services at very reasonable rates. Mind u i am not advertising for anyone its just my own experience with them

Adding ,many shopkeepers in touristic places are simply there for ripping of foreigners..!!..,8,10 times they are charging more on tourists..so before buying any fabrics or jewellery..enquire in 5,6 shops..and the usual price of these items In the hotels you are living..its okey tourists being charged a bit more than Indians,coz that's why they rented the shops in touristic areas...but ripping them off is no good..!!..

1. You can't say "Indians look like this" . Indians are very racially diverse. You can see Indians of all colors also the north eastern states have east asian looking people. 2.You can't generalize India whether it's good or bad just by visiting few parts of the country. So mam next time learn at least the country's diversity quotient.

Only strong people should come to india, because its a 1.3 billion people's country and there is massive competition on every part of life and its a huge life force too. So if you are not prepared to face the real life then don't come. again Indians belive everything that is living has a soul and has their rights to live. so you will find wild cats, dogs, cows, mokeys birds all around but you will not see anyone hurting them.

Begging is not the industry for professionals. How do you define them as a professional beggar? There is still many people living in India left unemployed. India need more and more time to give everyone for the job opportunities, because of Indian population and low economical growth as compared to the population growth. India got independence just 71 years ago from British colonization. We should aware about it....

@Nubianette
@Nubianette 5 лет назад
Abhishek Dev, in America at least, as children, we are taught that it’s rude to stare. If you’ve never been anywhere else, it’s a hard thing to get used to. It takes time to unlearn a social norm, even if it’s not true.
@abhishekdev258
@abhishekdev258 5 лет назад
@@Nubianette I understand that anyone can get uncomfortable if they are being stared at. But what many tourists don't seem to understand is that they do the same to locals. I have seen Foreign tourists taking pictures of men and women who were bathing in a river. 😶 Once I was in metro rail and I was dressed in a traditional outfit. And one white tourist was just looking at me and in my mind I was like....whyyyyy? Then I realized maybe he was curious, that's why. (BTW I am a guy.) And many Indian people have similar experiences when they go to Korea or Japan, the locals stare at you too. We should just understand that it is curiosity. "OMG OMG LOOK A FOREIGNER"......hehehe

Sometimes we get to here some fucked up stuff that happened to a tourist here and there in India and that saddens most of us to be honest. I was pulled a knife on in Brazil , São Paulo near the beach area called canal 2 because they wanted to rob me in the middle of a very lively street at 9 in the evening with people walking by a nearby market , so you have to always look after yourself and don't go near anything which doesn't look safe. And yes , Brazil is still the best country to travel to if you are looking for a good time.

Women have to be careful and cautious..no matter which country...1.ideal timings for solo woman traveller is 7am to 7.30pm.. dawn to dusk in India..2.no night adventures 3. get 4g internet as soon as you land..such that you could Google for anything you want...4.get your antibiotics beforehand..incase you fall sick 5.if you feel people are staring at you..then just smile nd say namaste... people stare here mostly because of curiosity nd not to trouble you or any evil intentions mostly 6.women travellers carry a scarf or a shawl..u might need it in some conservative or religious places 7.to counter the spicy food here..you can have lot of yougurt..which is good for your health nd gut 8.to revitalize your energy..you can frequently have sugarcane juice..nd glucon-d( you get it in chemist/ medical shop )9.take uber or ola cab for travelling..but don't be so careless that you fall asleep in it 10.advisable not to drink or smoke publicly or any PDA 11.do not consume soft drinks or food offered by strangers..they could be vultures in disguise 12.you could ask educated indian women or girl students for any help or advice.. preferably 13.do not go to small lanes or places were no women is there..14.in metro cities there are women taxi..incase you need..15.there are Big bazaar supermarkets in most of the cities..which is a indian version of walmart 16.Basically you cannot stereotype India..you find every range nd diversity here.. poverty to super rich...Street food to five star hotels..filth to clean nd greenery nd calm places..17.india has conservative places were women are fully covered i.e sarees to modern cities like Delhi..Mumbai.. Bangalore..were you women are in jeans..skirts..modern clothing 18.have lot of sugarcane juice.. yougurt..yakult.. probiotics for your gut incase you feel like stomach upset 19.carry your hand sanitizer..

It's definitely safe but as a solo have to take some precaution. don't go remote area after dark n night. Don't ware to short upper and lower clothes. Don't journey in general class. Don't share cab, autorickshaw or room. Don't go outside without any reason at night in towns villages and remote area. In India nightlife is only in metro and mega city. And if possible then hire local travel guide. In Gujarat state you can go anywhere anytime even in midnight. It's safe because of liquor banned. You are girls so You can also find college girls group, they also spend whole day with you and show and guide travel spots without taken any charges.

Thats weird, in another video I heard that its best to group up with other travellers through hostels to stay safe and here you say you almost felt safer while solo travelling, now I'm confused on what to do
@edwardtang1977
@edwardtang1977 5 лет назад
Safety should not be defined as "I survived!". If you felt unsafe one time then it is not safe. If you are stared at with eyes that wants to eat you, then it is NOT safe. There are safer places in this world. If the standard is : if you have common sense and survived the trip...then India is safe. Then India sounds as safe as Switzerland. Then every country is the same. But I bet you India ranks at the bottom of the pack. That is the truth you should tell. A solo female traveller may be misinformed and get into trouble. Most people, when answering this type of questions, is trying to be nice. List the safest places in the world to travel, compare it to other countries. I bet India will rank at the bottom 1/3.

Akash Akash Most non-ethnic Indians like Jews, Chinese and European settlers have left India after independence of India. Non-ethnic foreigners don't want to live in India or live far away from Indians. We Indians made mess of India by over-breeding and gender-imbalance.

No it isn't safe at all. I'm 49 year's old and I won't recommend any woman or even Men to travel alone in India, Pakistan & Bangladesh..GO travelling to south East Asia there you won't face any problems unlike India..By the way I'm residing in North Germany for over 20 year's and my wife is American from new York..

Did you have a bad experience traveling around India? (I'm guessing you may be originally from there but have now moved away). I've heard about Indians from various regions having issues (scams and theft) in Delhi, but with most tourists I've spoken to, I haven't heard about many unexpected issues (aside from scams).

Very Nice Video: DELHI GUIDE 1. CAB-------Book UBER or OLA Cab only, will save you from Taxi Scam. 2. Shopping: Don't purchase on the road just go to the Big Malls eg. Saket Mall or Big Showrooms, they will not rip u off. 3. Tour: Plan your tour prior to visit. 4. Hotel: Online Booking 5. Public Transport: Only Delhi Metro 6. Don't interact with desperate people. 7. Use Common sense as you do in your Country. 8. Visit only the save places at the right time. 9. Purchase Jio-4G Sim or Airtel-4G Sim only from a store. 10. Don't talk to Beggars, Alms exchange in India is Illegal 11. Small Shopkeepers/ Road Salesmen/Middlemen are all there to RIP everyone not only Foreigners but Foreigners are a soft target for them. 12. Always confirm from educated locals if you are confused, they will surely help you and save you from being scammed. 13. English is not the First Language in India but still Millions of Indian Citizens can speak and understand. Its better to hire someone paying around INR 1000-2000 per day. 14. Their are many kinds of people in India. Some are Very hygienic, some smell like a s..t. We also feel vomiting when we travel in Metro specially in Summer. But most of the educated class is hygienic. 15. Dont eat street food as we also not prefer, no one knows whats in it. 16. Its very hard to keep the city clean because only Delhi-ncr has a population equal to Australian Population. Think if whole Australian Population jumps into Melbourne City?????? We try to keep our environment neet and clean but not all. 17. Finally Good and Bad people are everywhere in this World, never make a perception towards the whole community, have a safe journey, not every Indian Man is a Rapist, we feel bad too when this happens. Good Luck Police: Dial 100 If you need any assistance please get in touch with me anytime: Phone: +91 92178 73000 Whatsapp: +91 99909 84179 mail to: aashu.rishi.exl@gmail.com RU-vid Channel: Male to Female Massage in Delhi Link: ru-vid.com/show-UCfa5L6mOhFYPAcgiVGQyexw Feel Free to get in touch for any kind of issues. This is how i used to think about western women before meeting two European solo travellers from Germany and France. I was respectful towards them. I bought flowers for them. I paid all their bills. I flirted with them 'respectfully', not like 'sex-sex' even then they rejected me. Then I realized that western women are like Indian women but bit more independent.

Aloha Roman! I Love simmering on your positivi-tea via this RU-vid channel. I am also a female solo traveler coming to India for the first time this fall/winter beginning at Diwali through beginning of December. I definitely resonate with your friend in this video because I am currently feeling some apprehensive thoughts about coming to India because everyone in the United States tries to convince you that it’s an unsafe place for women. Intuitively I don’t agree with this so I love hearing your stories on how to take care of yourself in the Indian culture. I would love to hear some recommendations on where to stay and visit in Kerala, Jaipur, Rikshikesh, Mumbai, and Rajasthan. I’m an artist, nutritionist, plant based enthusiast , photographer & writer so I’m always looking to find myself in a place that is inspiring my creativity. I love waterfalls and street art too! Sending you virtual hugs -Clara Moon

Never give money to beggers..offer them food or help but never money..they used it to do drugs and for drinks... If you get stared its just because people look at you curiously they want to know about you. If you talk to them its like a really a serious achievement for them..so don't get frightened
