TIMESTAMPS 1:41 Jannah is unanimously agreed to be eternal. Most say jahannam is eternal as although khalid does NOT mean eternal (rather "long"), "Abadan" is also used in Quran for jahannam 3 times in Quran, and abada DOES mean eternal. Only stubborn disbelief leads to eternality. WISDOMS 1) 5:22 Impossible for human to fully encompass Gods wisdom, and that includes being always able to explain it. Nothing wrong with asking however as even Angels asked. 2) 7:21 Allah is the Law Giver, and it isn't oppression to punish for a crime that a person does himself. 8:50 Makes no sense to judge a crime by how long it too to commit it, for example consider how quickly it takes to shoot someone with a gun. Common sense tells us to judge the nature of the crime, not how long it was done for. Shirk is the greatest sin. 11:03 Aisha asked about her good and generous relative, and Prophet said "he didn't once ask Allah to forgive him". 11:49 We will wish to give up everything to escape Hell, but we are asked for a fraction of that and not to disbelieve. 3) 13:49 SIn would have been eternal if life had been eternal. We're not judging. We're just assessing based on what we know as just and unjust. If Allah is evil, is there really a point in complaining? No, it's not up to us either way, we just need to put up with him.

Ma Sha Allah. Very good explanation as always. But I have to add that Ibn Taymiyyah disagreeing with 99.9% is fine but must always say as long as there is no disagreement with the Prophet(Pbuh). Also, it is never good to encourage controversy and be obnoxious as it will always leads to Fitnah and therefore controversy should be dealt with in a light and good-hearted manner. I hope Imam Ibn Taymiyyah was not harsh in his controversies.

The defenses in this video are remarkably similar to the defenses that I've heard for eternal torment in Christianity, so my criticisms are similar: 1. Even in religions with divine revelation, beliefs that strongly contradict humans' moral intuitions are problematic. In order for a divinely inspired text to be useful for guiding humans' actions, humans' moral intuitions must be reliable enough to 1) distill moral principles from the text, and 2) apply those principles to our actions. Consequently, to appeal that a doctrine is beyond human comprehension is to limit the utility of the entire text. 2. The argument about the duration of the sin is a straw man. When critics mention "finite" or "infinite" sins, they're referring to the magnitude of the sins, not their duration. The wrongness of failing to recognize the truth of _any_ belief is finite, because reaching an incorrect belief requires finitely many epistemological errors. 3. Human minds do not work this way. By and large, humans respond to negative stimulus by avoiding the cause of the stimulus. To claim that _everybody_ who has experienced jahannam--being withered by fire, drenched in boiling water, etc.--wouldn't gain the self-control to avoid usury if they were threatened with returning to that extreme torture, is extremely dubious.

Personally, I think it is just if Jahannam is eternal. Why? Simply because the Jannah is also eternal. If we then question the eternal state of Jahannam, then we might as well question the eternal state of Jannah. What we did here on earth will be either rewarded with Jannah or punished with Jahannam. If our good deeds are rewarded with eternal abode in Jannah, then it is just if the same bad deeds are punished eternally in Jahannam. If we question the length of punishment in Jahannam, then why do we simply accept the rewards to be eternal also? However, if the punishment in Jahannam is not eternal, then that simply means that Allah is the Most Merciful, and ending the existence of Jahannam is actually an act of Mercy from Allah. All in all, Allah knows best.

Actually there is similar view in bible, where the people who end up in hell will be obliterated after their punishment. Allah knows best and may he protect us from such fate.

@@moamenh5133 The akhirah is a realm that's different from our current realm. Because it is a different realm, it also has different laws, such as the absence of death. Jannah is a reward from Allah. It is a special place where it doesn't follow the rules of law of this world where you eat, drink, sleep, have relationships etc to satisfy your needs. There is no such thing as needs in Jannah, you do something because you want to do it, not because you need to do it (or else you die or something). You eat a fruit on earth, but the more you eat the less satisfaction you feels compared to the first bite. But in Jannah, the first bite is unbelievable, yet the more you eat the more delicious it becomes, and each bite taste different from the previous ones. Your spouse will become more beautiful/handsome each time you laid your eyes on them, your clothes, your palaces, everything in Jannah becomes better over time, thus ensuring that there will be no loss of value although it is eternal. Your life each day is not the same, is ever exciting, and nothing shall trouble you, ever. This is the reward that Allah has promised us, an eternal abode that is very special and has nothing like it in this world.

@@moamenh5133 yes, indeed humans do not deserve the infinite rewards. That's why we believe going to Jannah is actually a Grace from Allah, not based on our deeds here. The same goes to punishments, eternal punishments are given to those who deserves it, not to those who doesn't deserve to be punished. Think of it this way, a man solely kill, rape, mutilate, torture, eat and desecrate each one of you friends and family in front of you, these are the people you really care about. Now this guy is caught, but the law gave him a jail sentence for life with no pardon. When asked by the judge, this guy said, "I don't regret killing them, I love every moment of it, and if you give me another chance, I'll do it once again." Now, tell me, do you think this guy deserves to be punished eternally for what he's done? Or do you think you can forgive and forget everything he has done to you? Think about it carefully and give me your most honest answer. It's easy to say people don't deserve their punishment because we are not the victim. But in the afterlife, victims of all wrongdoings will come in front of Allah, begging Him to punish the wrongdoers. The wrongdoers will be given a fair trial, because the one who will be the judge is none other than Allah, the Most Just. And each punishment varies accordingly, some are even forgiven, some are punished for a little while, some take years while some remain there for eternity. It all depends on the Mercy and Grace of Allah. And those who end up in Jahannam, these people really deserve their punishments, they are not wrongly accused and they are the guiltiest of the guilty.

The problem with that view is “except if Allah wills” was used for Junnah also and no one ever said that Junnah isn’t eternal wouldn’t that be far more in keeping to interpret as those who were either believers or maybe those who hadn’t heard the call but have some sins to answer for?

Actually, if you take a look at 11:107 and 11:108, you’ll find the following: 107: They will reside therein as long as the heavens and the earth will last, except what your Lord wills. Surely your Lord is the doer of what He wants. 108: And as for those who are blessed, they will be in Paradise, abiding therein as long as the heavens and the earth will last, except what your Lord wills, a gift without an end. He promises in 108 “a gift without end” assuring us that he will never take Jannah away. Hell on the other hand, “Surely your Lord is the doer of what He wills”. Rather open ended... Put that together with Allah’s infinite Mercy and and Hell’s purpose as a rehabilitative “purifier” and you can see why some scholars are able to defend “finite” Jahannam. Of course, Allah SWT knows best. I am personally inclined towards IBM Al Qayyim’s evidence for finite Hell but none of us can say for certain. None of us can ever hope to understand Perfect Wisdom...Perfect Justice.

@@haloandavatar1177 only 1 credible scholar ever said Hell may not be eternal, there is consensus it is, you shouldn't try and make your own interpretations based on what you desire. Allah has made it very clear in so many verses they don’t get out, of course it’s human nature to want ease and we love Allah’s mercy but don’t think about it, trust in his wisdom and justice and make sure you do everything you can not to go there, this is our job brother not to change things to suit what’s easier for people. Except the way of Hell, to dwell therein forever” [al-Nisa’ 4:168-169] Wherein they will abide for ever” [al-Ahzaab 33:64] and whosoever disobeys Allaah and His Messenger, then verily, for him is the fire of Hell, he shall dwell therein forever” [al-Jinn 72:23] they will be the dwellers of the Fire, to dwell therein forever. And worst indeed is that destination” [al-Taghaabun 64:10] And they will cry: ‘O Malik (Keeper of Hell)! Let your Lord make an end of us.” He will say: “Verily, you shall abide forever.’ Indeed We have brought the truth (Muhammad with the Qur’aan) to you, but most of you have a hatred for the truth” [al-Zukhruf 43:74] Thus Allaah will show them their deeds as regrets for them. And they will never get out of the Fire” [al-Baqarah 2:165-167] Hardly open ended is it brother, no one likes the thought of the naar that’s the point if you believe it avoid it, if Allah left the disbelievers here forever they would likely keep disbelieving forever this is perhaps why it’s eternal Allahu’alim. Trust Allah’s knowledge and justice and know that He never wrongs anyone even an atoms weight and know He is more merciful to a believer than the believers own mother.

@@haloandavatar1177 To interpret "Surely your Lord is the doer of what he wants" as saying it is "open-ended" is a strange interpretation. According to translations, Allah says in the Quran e.g. that he will forgive every sin less than the sin of shirk but the sin of shirk he will never forgive. In light of that, it is clear that Jahannam is eternal. Ibnul Qayyim/Ibn Taymiyyah's argument that "khalidun fiha abadah" does not mean eternal is a farce as the same can be argued then for Jannah. Also Abadah does mean forever, so saying it does not is clear rejection of the apparent meaning of the word. "Khaliduna" on the other hand refers to something that is immortal i.e. living forever. People who enter either Jannah or Jahannam (even those sinners who enter Jahannam and Allah forgives) will immortally reside there. Even if you are taken out it does not effect the fact that you will not be subject to death in Jahannam. Similar to statements like "a gift without end" we have e.g. in Quran 43:75, "it will never subside for them" in reference to Jahannam. If you argue, "a gift without end" refers to eternality of Jannah, then necessarily "it will never subside for them" means that Jahannam will never end. Yes we can have more open discussions on who is subject to eternal punishment, there is not consensus on that. For example the Ash'ari school holds that disbelievers who receive a false impression of Islam will still be given the chance to enter Jannah by means of a seperate test. Atharis (e.g. al-Mardawi) argue that the non-muslim monotheist will enter Jannah eventually, as do the Maturidis. Allah talks in the Quran about how he will judge between the Christians suggesting that for some of them they do not understand their doctrine of trinity in a polytheistic way, but in just a generally blasphemous manner. We can have these legitimate discussions and also argue to the the extent of the Prophet Alayhis Salam's intercession. But to deny eternal punishment as a whole is just ridiculous. To argue that Jannah or Jahannam will not end is an innovation (bid'ah), which at worst is disbelief (kufr).

@@muhammadhasan2582 Ibn taymiyah dud by day that he discussed the two view points his student argued the position more so but even him he was discussing the views more than he was making that his default Allahu’alim but why would you say ibn taymiyah isn’t credible, Ahl al sunnah are pretty much united onhis position as one of the most prominent scholars after the early generations

I always thought that the crime sentence is equivalent to the severity of that crime but also to whom we did that crime, a person plotting to kill someone who is bulliying him at school, or someone who insulted or opressed him in some place, isnt the same as someone killing his own loving innocent mother to take her money for example, if he's a junky of something like that...... killing the one who wants you only love is totally different, the sentence must be multiplied by another factor........... and for that I always thought that being wrong to the eternal , is simply multiplied by eternity, whatever the punishement: small fire, big fire, it has to be eternal, otherwise it wont fit the fact that Allah is eternal............ and its only my humble reasoning, and Allahu is best knowing, AND FOR SURE, as the quran states, ALLAH SUBHANAHU WA TAALA DOES WHATEVER HE WANTS

Allah swt has the authority to do whatever he wills. Still this servant of his is imperfect, in this case in terms of understanding. Honestly personally I still not comfortable with the idea of eternal hell, but Allah swt bestows his mercy by informing us that on the day of judgement, noone will be judged wrongly. I hope Allah will ease my mind either before that day or on that day by making me understand the concept of eternal hell. Insyaallah

Tjat poses a problem. If a mentally deranged person commits a crime, and a sane human being commits a crime , its different. The results produced by both minds are of different gravity even if they commit the same crime. A finite mind cannot produce an infinite result. Besides, an infinitely forgiving God creating an infinite hellfire is just out of the bounds.

The idea that you "sinned against an infinite god, therefore, you deserve eternal punishment" is not only morally reprehensible, it is logically unsound. I can think of plenty of crimes that are worse than not worshipping Allah: Rape, Murder, Child abuse, etc. The severity of the punishment is dependent on how severe the harm done by the criminal is. If I get caught speeding, I get a ticket and have to go to court to pay a fine, but that's pretty much it. However, If I get drunk and drive, killing people in a crash, then I can get a more severe sentence such as life in prison for manslaughter. With Allah, however, you can't do anything to hurt him. You literally cannot touch him. At worst, you could just hurt his feelings, but that's about it. And frankly, I don't care about Allah's feelings. Here's a scenario: In this scenario, I'm starving and need something to eat, but I don't have money to buy food, so I have to steal to feed myself. Now, there are two people I could steal from. One is the ruler of the world with an orchard of infinite apples. The other is a beggar who only has one apple to his name. Now, I could steal from the ruler, or I could steal from the beggar. Tell me, which crime would warrant the worse punishment? Well, to those of you who haven't been brainwashed by religion, the answer is obvious: Stealing from the beggar is a serious crime, while stealing from the ruler is no crime whatsoever. Think about it, If you have a ruler of the whole world who literally has infinite apples, then what's the harm in stealing one apple? Because the apples are infinite, you have literally done no harm. Meanwhile, stealing from the beggar is a serious offense, because you have taken everything that he has. It's the same way with god. If I "sin" against Allah, then the punishment should be 0! Not infinity! Because Allah's infinite resources and self sufficiency cancel out any negative effects the sin would have. So we should be judged based on what we do to other people. Not based on whether we obeyed Allah's arbitrary command to worship him or not. Since nobody can do infinite harm to anybody, no punishment should be infinite.

Even if sinning against an infinite God deserves an imfinite punishment, there are two flaws with concept of an eternal hellfire - 1) Human mind is limited, amd a finite cause cannot produce an infinite amount of result (in this case, finite human brain making an infinitely grave decision of denying an imfinite God) 2) fact that God is infinite in all his attributes, and thus infinitely merciful who would be able to forgive an infinite crime.

@jakethesnake (1) "The severity of the punishment depends on how severe the harm done by the criminal is" You come to this conclusion by coming up only with examples that cause physical harm or loss to one's possessions. Defaming/Disrespecting someone is an attack on one's honour, which is also liable to punishment even among people, and the severity of the punishment depends on whom you're defaming/disrespecting. If it's someone less powerful than you, you're saved, but if it's the King of the Land, then you're in deep trouble. And if it's the King of the Universe (and anything else that may exist) , then you're in unimaginable trouble. (But I do not know of any King who tolerates defamation/disrespect as much as the King of the Universe does.) (2) And regarding your scenario of the apples, the retribution is not due to the quantity stolen, but due to jumping into a forbidden orchard without permission. If it's a NO TRESPASS zone, you better keep away from it. You slip into the orchard, then (even if you don't steal anything) you're liable to punishment for trespassing. You trespass a signal, you get a different ticket, and if you trespass the King's forbidden City, you get a different ticket. (Yet Allah is ready to forgive such a person if he repents before he is brought to his court for judgement).

@@noobedient "Sexually molesting a woman" when seen as a crime against a finite woman, does deserve a finite punishment, but when seen as trespassing the boundaries of what the infinite God has made forbidden/sacrosanct, deserves infinite punishment. In islamic law, when such a finite crime reaches the court of the finite world, it is met with finite punishment. But when the perpetrator does not repent within this finite world and carries it over to the infite world, then he meets finite/infinite punishment as judged by The Judge.

@@noobedient Yes, drinking alcohol, eating pork etc all "deserve" infinite punishments if one carries it over to the infite world without repentance in the finite world. Any sin when seen as trivial may be given the biggest punishment, since it is not just the sin that is being considered trivial, but also the authority of the lawgiver. However, to "deserve" a punishment is different from whether it would be actually pronounced. God may choose to forgive any sin except 'shirk' (polytheism).

That means terrorist attacks to silence journalists and caricature artists in the name of allah are not problematic to someone of your belief. How do you like that?

Impossible to explain and understand the wisdom of Allah regarding permanent torment in hell black on white? If someone asks can God create a rock that he cannot lift then this answer applies to it. But when something is clear like permanent hell for committing shirk is something I cannot understand. I do not reject it but it lowers my iman and prevents me to be a better Muslim. Also his statement for "length of crime vs severity" doesn't make sense. For the record, if Christianity happened to be true, would it be fair that we burn in hell forever for not believing in their religion?

I completely understand you I am also a Muslim but with weak Iman because I have such questions. What's also troubling me is that, some people are just born into non Muslim family, their parents made them be non Muslims, so they kind of had no choice at all. Why would they be in hell forever?

I wonder if that ayah was talking about the new earth after Judgement day. "As long as the heavens and the earth endure" Couldn't you take that to believe that hell will cease to exist after the destruction of the next earth and the heavens (space). So hell could feel like eternity but only last a couple billion years. Just my two cents

You look at how much suffering the crime caused not how long it took to comit the crime. It may cause suffering to all the family members and a general sense of dread in the community. This is still a finite amount of suffering. This man is unfortunately not very clever.

Hell will never be over. That's the issue. They will be therein forever and ever. Unending suffering on most extreme measures, why? Because they spent these few years on Dunya having the wrong lifestyle. And that concept itself is why I have had weak Iman for months now.

John Wick just because He gets angry at evil and punishes people for it does not mean His anger is anything like our anger. He is never wronged and never suffers for the lies men make of Him or the crimes they do to each other-however He is wise and just, created us for a purpose and a specified end every everyone is paid back their deeds and no one is wronged.

Abu hanifa said there is consensus on it’s eternal state and Belief outside that is kufr a good few said that, unless evidence is presented that they hadn’t seen and it’s not Contradicting to the Quran ahl al sunnah are of the position if it’s eternal nature and this is very dangerous. Light up your lighter, and put your finger on it. After less than a second you would jump around and scream in pain, forgetting about life and everything else, until pain goes away. Now imagine having to go trough something that's more than thousand times worse than that. Not to mention that it lasts for eternity.
