Hi Cody. Love your content and very transparent and honest in delivery! If you were a completely new UX design student looking at purchasing either Sketch & Invision for prototyping OR just studio and invision. Which would you choose? I'm having a hard time deciding on which to invest my time in learning and getting used to. My main concern is I don't want to purchase and learn Sketch knowing that I may one day swap over to studio for the UI /web design. Keep up the great videos! Look forward to hearing your thoughts after you get to know Adobe XD and Studio.
Julian, thanks for the comment! You'll probably not like what I'll say here, butI think it's important to learn both for a few reasons. 1) You will become more well rounded as a designer if you can understand both interfaces and the unique features each software offers. Better to add more tools to your toolkit! 2) It's always good to keep an open mind towards these softwares because they are always constantly pushing to be our primary used tool, with that comes new versions and features. You don't want to miss out on any potential features that can speed up your workflow and/or make you a more efficient designer. However, I would say if you HAD to choose which to start using literally today, I'd probably use Sketch with the Invision integration for now, as Studio is so new and they are still working out bugs.

Hey Erika, thanks for the follow up! Yes, I've been playing around in the software for some time now, I don't use it in my everday workflow yet because I've been using Sketch and Adobe XD, but Studio is a lot of fun. I have been making a lot of exploratory designs in the program to test out the animation features and all that. I think it's a fun software, there are still some things I think can be improved upon, but Im sure I'll make a follow up video on this topic soon! Thanks for watching :D
Very excited to test out Studio, and love the black UI, but am hesitant about yet "another" design tool to add to our growing list (Sketch, AI, Figma, Affinity, Gravit, Adobe XD, etc.). that seems to just be a Sketch clone with prototyping built-in. Have you delved into Figma at all? I recently made the switch from Sketch after leaving my last employer (and thus leaving my MBPro behind too), and am really digging it so far, though I guess you could argue it too is just a Sketch clone with prototyping built in... But so far it seems to be able to replicate most of what I love about Sketch, while working in the browser (and thus platform agnostic), and is free, to boot. I also find the Pen tool way better than Sketch for doing iconography and SVG design. I haven't tested the prototyping functionality yet, but for the most part it seems like it can do most of what XD does in terms of native prototyping built-in. Curious to hear if you've messed around with it at all and what your thoughts are. Love the videos man, keep it up!
You're right. There's a lot of design software emerging right now and it's an extremely competitive market. While it can be difficult to identify which platform will be the best to use, I don't see this it as a negative thing. Rather, it encourages these companies to build the best product possible with designers (us) in mind, and forces them to constantly iterate on new features, accessibility, and working out any potential bugs. I haven't used Figma for any of my projects but I have played around with it a bit. I do like the feel of it and you're spot on when you say it's a lot like Sketch. That was the first thing I noticed in fact. But I was introduced to Sketch first and have stuck with it because I currently use Craft and InVision to prototype (works well). For me though, I personally prefer downloading software and having it stored locally on my machine. There's times when I'm away from Wi-fi and can't work on my Webflow projects. I’m really looking forward to it. It’s gonna be awesome. Now I’m using XD and I thinks it’s good but I really need more tools when I’m prototyping and I sure hope Invision Studio have all that. :)
What is the point coming out with a new software if you still have to find a programmer to programme the prototype for you, too many software's for creating prototypes but no software for people that don't know anything about coding, what are your thoughts on this?
I think we're still in the very early stages of this type of software. It's not an easy task by any means. You do have companies like Webflow that actually are pioneers in this and are doing a tremendous job bridging the gap between Design and Dev. It's just a matter of time!
Hi Cody, in Invision Studio, can I create a design for iPhone X and see the same in iPad with just one click? Basically my question is, can this handle the aspect ratios of iOS devices?
Studio will have the ability to create multiple art-boards for different device sizes. I'm not 100% on the way this feature will work, but I know it should be much easier to design for these views. My assumption is: I don't think one click will make everything will be spaced out perfectly, but it will probably do a lot of the work for you.
It’s going to be interesting if it actually out preforms sketch. I think it’s going to be hard for invision to beat sketch. Sketch has been working on their program for over 5 years and they are going to be updating their prototyping tools soon to include animations and custom transitions. Personally I don’t like invision but it will be interesting to see what happens. There’s a lot better prototyping tools out their that are light years ahead of invision craft.
Sorry I'm just getting to your comment! I think there's potential for Studio to be one of the bigger design platforms out there. hard to say if it will replace though. Excited to see what happens!
Hey Cody! Why didn't you talk about Adobe XD rather than Photoshop. Adobe is stepping up their game with XD. Though it isn't as amazing as Studio, I would recommend it for developers and beginners. I think it has an edge over sketch too, but depends on our different utilities. You're great btw :)
Thanks! To be honest I haven't spent too much time on Adobe XD yet but I do plan on giving it a whirl and sinking my teeth in. I've seen a lot of the promo videos and have read up on it quite a bit. It looks great. What I will say is that I think Invision has been mastering prototyping for the last 6-7 years and most designers are trained & familiar with the workflow and interface - this means it'll be super easy to jump into Invision Studio and hit the ground running. Where as, with Adobe XD, you'll need to learn how to collaborate in a new program all over again and learn how to design in it.
Also, it surprises me that Adobe XD didn't go with a dark interface like Photoshop and the other softwares available through their suite. Invision Studio has got that sexy dark interface working for them!
I received invite for Studio and it is a great release but using Adobe Illustrator/Sketch and Flinto is way better. Invision, for myself is only good for screen design collaboration, for now.
