Yes, because Israel breaking the supposed rules of war is not the root of the problem? How do you think Hamas became radicalized? They are the survivors of decades of school and hospital bombings and blockades, etc. In the last 2 weeks, Israel has struck 22 hospitals in Gaza (and the West Bank for no reason because Hamas isn't even there). Churches, schools. THAT is where terrorists come from.

@@shirisolomon7993 I don't know when the last election was in Gaza, but I doubt they were free and fair. I assume it's like in the West Bank where those in power excluded legitimate rivals. In any event, I hope you'd agree that election results don't reflect the views of all voters. (I certainly wouldn't have wanted to be put in the same bucket as the folks who voted for Trump.) Palestinians, I presume, are just as heterogeneous as "Americans" and "Jews" and every other demographic group. Rules of war! I'm not taking any sides here, nor agreeing with any of the carnage and suffering imposed on innocents on both sides. As a historian, just saying that historically, if any state or entity felt it was fighting for it's very survival/existence (and it could be argued both sides here are doing that) then the rules of war went out of the window. Wouldn't it be better to devote 100% of all efforts into ending the causes of the conflict rather than talking about the rules of war? Easy to say I know.

I disagree. The conflict is actually very simple: One side is a democratic nation that wants to live in peace, even says so in its declaration of independence, but is constantly provoked by the other side and dragged into violent clashes. The other side is a terror organization backed and funded by Iran that openly admits it does not recognize its neighbor right to exist and operates to annihilate it. So you see, the conflict is very simple to explain. It is very hard to solve but very simple and basic.

an interventionist and militant mindset has brought about a shadow over the world's economies, disrupting the natural flow of progress and balance. The interventionist approach, where powerful entities seek to control and manipulate economic systems for their gain, creates a world of inequality. It fosters an environment where the few prosper while the many struggle, leading to imbalances that weaken the very foundations of our global economy. The pursuit of short-term gains often takes precedence over the long-term well-being of both people and the planet. Militant actions, whether economic or political, result in conflict and instability. These actions divert resources that could be better used for nurturing growth and development. Such mindsets perpetuate a cycle of competition and hostility that hinders cooperation and mutual benefit.

I find it amusing that war has laws and rules, almost an oxymoron. Edit: It appears that some individuals who lack proper reasoning are struggling to comprehend my point. Once a war has begun, it becomes impossible to enforce laws or rules. As humans, we are fundamentally against war for this reason. Picking a word from my writings to build an argument against is just petty. I hope you find your way in life.

I am writing to you today as a dedicated reader of The Economist for several decades, a publication I have come to deeply respect for its insightful analysis and commitment to unbiased reporting. However, recent coverage of the Israel/Palestine conflict in your magazine has left me somewhat surprised and concerned about the magazine's impartiality and honesty in reporting. The Economist has long been a trusted source of information, known for its balanced approach to complex global issues. Nevertheless, as I have followed your coverage of the Israel/Palestine conflict, I couldn't help but notice what appears to be a certain bias in the reporting. It seems as though The Economist may be leaning towards one side of the conflict, which has raised doubts about its credibility in my mind. I implore The Economist to maintain its legacy of journalistic integrity and fairness. The Israel/Palestine conflict is a deeply sensitive and complex matter, and it is imperative that your publication presents all sides of the issue and strives for a comprehensive, unbiased viewpoint. We, as readers, rely on The Economist to provide us with accurate and objective reporting that presents the facts without taking sides. The magazine should stand as a paragon of trustworthy journalism, a beacon of truth, and a source that distinguishes itself from sensationalist or biased news outlets. I encourage The Economist to remain true to its founding principles and uphold its reputation for honest reporting. Please ensure that the magazine's coverage of the Israel/Palestine conflict remains objective, balanced, and transparent. By doing so, you will reaffirm your commitment to delivering the truth and the facts to your readers, without falling into the trap of sensationalism or partisan reporting that can be associated with certain other media outlets. In conclusion, I sincerely hope that The Economist will take my concerns to heart and make the necessary adjustments to ensure the highest standards of journalistic integrity are maintained in its reporting. I look forward to seeing a continued commitment to unbiased and honest coverage in the pages of your magazine, preserving the trust of long-standing readers like myself. Thank you for your attention to this matter, and I remain a dedicated reader, hopeful that The Economist will continue to be a beacon of journalistic excellence.

@@NoPickles.4Me The economist is not a newspaper nor a news anchor and does not cover every update on the Hamas Israel conflict. A terrorist organisation using terror tactics is tragic, but hardly unheard of. A state actively committing war crimes (while also being backed by the same countries that have been crying about international law, self determination and so on in the case of the Russia-Ukraine war) may be worth of a more in depth analysis. What should they say about Hamas? that they tragically slaughtered civilians? They have. And then? Can we talk about proportionality, the difference between the Palestininans and Hamas and have a nuanced discussion about Israeli response?
@NoPickles.4Me
@NoPickles.4Me 7 месяцев назад
@@katakats2474 The Economist would disagree with you impression of their efforts. I'm commenting on the moral relativism of our media and those that enjoy their enlightened positions. You want nuance in the midst of a response to a war crime by Hamas? You want to debate the founding of the Israeli state and it's long effort to secure it's place in a hostile region? That is exactly the same position as Hamas but they have a few particular remedies as we have seen recently. If you start from the original sin of the Israeli states founding, what isn't morally swept aside in the name of your Palestinian freedom? What country could still stand from this view of it's original sin? So now the question is how far do you want to push this thinking and to what end? I see forever war everywhere from these ideas and for some that seems to be fine.

@@NoPickles.4Me You keep talking about Hamas, I am talking about Palestinians, and it really show the problem with people like you. There is no Hamas in West Bank, and yet 75 Palestianinans have been killed there since October the 7th. No one denies the founding of Israeli and its right to secure its place in a hostile region. Carpet bombing a place and committing war crimes is not a legitimate way of doing it. If there are doubts that that is what Israel is doing, it shall be held to account. What surprises you exactly? That a democratic state is held accountable on the matter of human rights, while a terrorist organisation is not? Moral relativism is not this, it's expressing condemnation for Hamas war crimes and expecting a free pass from Israel. Is that the surprise? That Israel is not being held to the same standard as Hamas? Really? On top of that, people like you keep talking of Israel as if it was facing an existential threat. It is simply not.

Thank you for attempting to answer this question. This is a question that is not even asked on German media outlets, because we have a historic obligation to defend Israel‘s right to exist, but I think it’s important to ask this question. Also, it’s important to ask how Israelis will be able to distinguish between Hamas and civilians when Hamas is so deeply integrated into the society and how genocide can be avoided when Egypt continues to block the southern border. Interestingly, in German media also the question is raised how Germany is helping German citizens evacuate from Israel, but no mention is made of how we help German citizens escape Gaza. Yes, Israel has the right to defend itself and what they had to experience was and is an assault on humanitarian rights. I‘m only asking media to put the same standards to both parties involved.
