My boy is much more cuddly. He's also always at my side. My girl is more aloof but when she does show affection it's incredibly sweet.

I do find male cats more affectionate than female cats. Sometimes, females can be even mean, unless pregnant 😅 They are harder to manage when in heat than males, in my experience.

I find generally male cats more aggressive. Put 100 male cats to rub them on bellies and 100 females. You will see for yourself which side will bite you more! They are cuddly, but don't tolerate mistakes and when its too much or wrong, you will feel it as teeth in your skin.

Genuine question have you had cats before? What advice would you give to someone thinking about getting a cat/ cats who never grew up with animals?
@MerryJones
@MerryJones 4 года назад
@@Gusto4now *Try to gather as much information as possible and prepare well!* That is the most important thing. :) . . Most things you can find out pretty easily but there are some things I always see being forget, done wrong or not acknowledged (especially in countries where cats are not that popular) because people just don't know better and there are so many wrong information and misconceptions in general and as a cat guardian and biologist it's really important to me to let people know who want to adopt. . *So here are 9 things that are not always mentioned in "things you should consider before adopting a cat":* . . *Visiting an animal protection/welfare organisation (not a shelter) and talking to the people there* was super insightful for me because unlike shelters they usually are more careful about who adopts their animals (shelters are awesome, don't want to talk them down by any mean and I appreciate the work they do, animal welfare and protection often just have more money, less animals and better habitats, therefor they can often give you much more information and help). . Think about the fact that a cat/cats will probably be with you *for the next 15 years.* . You need to vaccine them once a year, neuter them if they are not, take care of fleas (once your cat has them they are a pain in the ass!) and other vermin. Also check their teeth and gum regulary. Operations can get super expensive if your cat needs one, so be sure you can *always put some money back for the vet or get an insurance.* . *Adopt either two cats* (e.g. friends, siblings; I recommend Jackson Galaxys "How to Introduce Cats" YT video if you get two strangers and that you talk to the people you adopt from to find out which cats can work together) *or an older cat that has always been alone and is absolutely not able to socialize with others anymore.* Cats are social animals and they usually need another cat to fulfill all of their needs (grooming, playing, scramble) otherwise they might develop depression and "bad" behaviour (e.g. attacking feet). There are many miscoceptions about this topic but cat specialists, behaviourists, vets and zoologists came clear about it and can proof that in most cases cats do better if they are not alone unless they have been alone most of their lives and can't get used to other cats anymore. Also of course special needs cats should live together with cats that work well together with them (two blind cats are good with each other, a blind cat and an ataxia cat could cause problems). . *Buy wet food* (cats ancestors live in the desert-> cats don't drink much because they get water from their food, kibble even drains water so you should only use this as a treat and for clicker training, cats that feed from kibble get sick more often) *without grains and sugar* (literally all the big brands are super unhealthy for cats) *and at least 70% meat.* Where I live you can get this good quality food a bit cheeper if you order it online. . If they will be indoor cats make sure to *give them enough space to climb, run and scratch. Best cat trees are the ones with a huge diameter stem (+15cm).* Cats love if you build them a parcour. *Use shelves and other platforms* to build a climbing parkour for your cats so you maximize the space they have without blocking space on the ground. Make sure they have either a *balcony, an outdoor enclosure or good viewing places at your windows* where they can watch/listen to birds and the outside world. . Cats are very clean animals, make sure to have *enough litter boxes* (number of cats+1=number of litter boxes, so for 2 cats you would need 3 litter boxes) and clean them up every day/every other day because otherwise your cat will find other places to do their business at. . Obviously (but still so important to mention) *don't hit your cats or punish them for doing things wrong. Build a good relationship with positive reinforcement*, do clicker training and correct wrong behaviour the moment you see it in a gentle way (You see the cat shitting on the carpet? Pick them up and put them in the litter box while they are doing it without saying anything). . *Don't bathe your cats unless it is necessary* (Sphynx need a bath every week, Long Haired need to go to the groomer or you need to groom them yourself). They can clean themselves up pretty good and especially a Short Haired that lives indoors will not need any baths. . . I know it seems like a lot but if you really want to adopt cats or any kind of animal I hope you appreciate as much information as possible! :)

I have always had my cats neutered as we need to reduce unwanted cat numbers. Currently I've a male and female cat (same litter), they are wonderful but the 'girl' brings me at least 4 mice a week as she thinks I'm a bad hunter. When my dear wife was dying of cancer, my girl cat used to leave dead mice at the bedroom door because she seemed to know my wife needed help - it was so touching. After my wife died, my boy cat (who was closer to my wife) kept looking for her for ages....

Either one! Cats rule. Kittens are awesome but don’t forget seniors and special needs pets need homes too. Adopt and save a life. They bring so much joy and can bring meaning and purpose to your life. Maybe a cat or dog will save your life one day. It happens. Also if you commit stay committed. Do everything in your power to keep them. They’re not phones to be returned or upgraded. Cats and dogs are truly one of the best things in this life and if you don’t have a furry family member, then you’re missing out. Kudos to all the pet parents of the world!

Oh trust me, I know. My 3 year old cat, Leila, was being used as a breeding machine for 3 years straight. All of her kittens were taken away from her. This are her develop trust issues. I am very allergic to cats, and never thought my mum would get one for me. When we first got her, she ran straight under the couch and stayed there for most of the day. I stayed with her. But, it turns out, all she needed was time. Before a full day passed, she was already all over me. But she has ended up 4 weeks pregnant now because we didn't have time to neuter her, but we are making sure all kittens when born are healthy and safe, along with her poor mom. Cats are amazing, nobody can tell me otherwise. ✊✨💞👏

All my cats were neutered, but I've always had either a male or a female cat who assumed the position as watchdog and protector in the household. When I lived alone Angel always alerted me whenever someone approached the door at least 15 to 20 minutes before. She actively discouraged repair persons from coming in to do the work and I had to pull her aside and take her out of the room. I always explained to her that the workers meant no harm but she never believed me. My other females left the policing up to her. When I lived at home my male cat Bandit protected my mother weeks after my father died. One day the cat defended her against one of her so-called 'friends' who attempted to rape her when she was home alone. Bandit attacked the man and drove him out of the house. That was all the more amazing because previously Bandit was extremely friendly with that man and would purr and rub up against him.

She once attacked the meter man in our basement by flying through the air and attaching herself to his midsection yowling and scratching. We had to throw cold water on her to get her off him. He never came back. And we also put our cat into a room with the door closed when people came over that she might view as potential targets. Wait until your male kitten is between 6-8 months, and a year old before neutering them. Their urethra is smaller, and needs time to develop fully, otherwise there is a increased chance of urinary blockages which are fatal if not treated right away. Also avoid dry cat food, and only feed them wet food as this increases urine acid levels, which dissolve the crystals that form blockages.

They definitely patrolled their territory and got into a lot of fights with other cats in the neighborhood. I aways think back to wild cat behavior. When leaving the mother male kittens from many species will stick together to maximize their ability to acquire territory and mates and will bond with each other.

This must vary cat to cat and mostly depends on their personality. We have an orange male tabby and he is very affectionate and homey. More so than the female calico we have. Although she likes being petted She’s more independent and hates to be picked up.

My calico will yell at me if I don’t pick her up. She will walk in front of me until I carry her like a baby to wherever she wants to go and then she will meow, roll around, and meow some more. She yells at me, almost. Even when she purrs. I love being a cat dad 🥺😭

As someone who owns one girl and two boy cats, let me bring up another potentially crucial difference this video didn't touch on: urinary problems. Male cats of many breeds are at elevated risk for urinary blockage if they aren't fed a careful diet, and while it's easy to treat, it can cause serious illness or death if you don't catch it right away. Symptoms include extreme pain (they will vocalize it to you), litter box avoidance, attempts to spray around the house that release little or no urine, and, in severe cases, visible distension of the bladder.

Thank you! I have a 10-month-old male cat but I'm highly protective of him. Would you see urinating once a day is average? He eats a mix of wet and dry food daily
@fawfulfan
@fawfulfan 4 года назад
Mari Bella it's good he's got wet food. You're probably fine to keep doing what you're doing, and if he ever does have that problem, your vet can recommend specially formulated food. As I say, the symptoms are pretty dramatic so if you're a loving owner who pays a normal amount of attention, you will notice if it happens. The cat wouldn't simply be urinating infrequently, he would be unable to urinate at all. And it would be very painful, so he would let you know.

Had two male cats that wanted no attention and ran away as a kid (yes, both neutered) A female stray showed up one day and never left when I was a teen, stayed and has lived with my mom since. Aloof but a sweet girl. Moved out, got my own cat, named her after my late grandmother and she’s the SWEETEST thing. She’s like a cat dog. Waits at my feet to be picked up and carried around the house. She likes it if you sing to her. Meows at me in a way that sounds like yelling if she can’t find me/if I come home after being gone for a little bit. Have no idea what breed she is. She’s almost 2. Female cats are the way to go. My ex had a male cat that was socialized and neutered, but he would bite and was way tougher. He’d maul you, essentially, if he wanted to play. He was sweet too, just really rough and a bit temperamental.

My 3 year old cat, Leila, was being used as a breeding machine for 3 years straight. All of her kittens were taken away from her. This made her develop trust issues. I am very allergic to cats, and never thought my mum would get one for me. When we first got her, she ran straight under the couch and stayed there for most of the day. I stayed with her. But, it turns out, all she needed was time. Before a full day passed, she was already all over me. But she has ended up 4 weeks pregnant now because we didn't have time to neuter her, but we are making sure all kittens when born are healthy and safe, along with her poor mom. everyone is saying that male cats are more affectionate so I just wanted to say that years ago we had a female cat, her name was poppy and she was plain black. she was very affectionate and knew when you were sad; she'd come up to you and rub her head on yours and just stay by your side until you stopped crying. She did it with everyone in the house. Even if you werent crying she would still do it if you were sad. Males are also very affectionate, I had a tuxedo boy he was always at my side and if he wasn't I couldn't stop searching for him. He never scratched unless he accidentally caught me with his claws when we were playing. He would let me carry him, and people not in family used to think it was amazing how he would let me carry him around. He ran away on the 29th and took his last breath somewhere... Missing him so bad, he walked into my life when I was 7. ♥🌠 his name was Sully.. he stayed to my 24th birthday..🥺

Thankfully, the shelter neutered young Merlin for us so hope to avoid some of those challenging behaviours.

Most people say the male cats are more affectionate, but I think it really depends. My cousins have a female cat named Oreo and she LOVES people! Whenever I visit, as soon as I open the garage door she runs into my lap. She purrs very loud and will NEVER leave your lap unless you make her. She just loves cuddles so much! I also recently visited a shelter because I love cats and well most of the cats were too shy. But the two cats that were really friendly were both females. Georgia wanted petted 24/7 and Maggie was a little deaf kitten who would paw at you for permission and fall asleep in your lap. (So cute!) So don’t just think male cats are more affectionate.

I've had cats all my life and my experience is just the opposite. Male cats are calmer and more loving and do NOT mark if you have them neutered by 12 wks. Female cats should be spayed by 12 wks also. But females are more on guard by nature because of their instinct to bear and protect their litters. Both should be kept as indoor pets to keep them from socially inappropriate behaviors. The minute you let them roam outside, instinct takes over.
@NotHumant8727

All truth but further on from my experience, males aren't so tolerable to mistakes, do it for to long, or something wrong, you will feel it as teeth in your skin! They have to be more aggressive when needed, they are males and in nature they often fight for females.

I have 4 cats- 2 males, 2 females. They are all Highlanders and very interesting, intelligent cats. The males cuddle far more than the females (always by my side and following me) but I always wonder if that’s because they are bidding for the attention and it’s the pecking order. I was watching this video to find out. All of my cats are very sweet and affectionate and take turns with every member of our family- meaning it’s a toss up who will wake up with who in the morning. Every once in a blue moon I’ll end up with all 4😳- and it’s a cat party! But, the boys know when I’m sick and never leave my side- they actually take shifts. The girls are a little more aloof (however, they might not be without the boys not around). My biggest boy, Scottie, weighs 26 pounds of solid muscle. They’re beautiful fun additions to our life and although there are ‘mommy cat moments’ where I almost lose my cool, I wouldn’t trade them for anything!❤️

Grew up with cats. So far we‘ve had three males and two females. All males are cuddly, needy yet also more adventurous and we‘ve had them all sterilized when they were younger. Especially our big boy Jerry is extremely affectionate and talkative, he’s amazing. Your youngster Simba has been very cuddly from birth, always climbing on our lap when we went to visit him before taking him and his sister Nala home. Luna is our first female cat and she’s sweet and caring, always wants to be close to us but she‘s also way more independent than all the boys were. And Nala is still a Kitten like Simba but she’s always been more cautious, more easygoing at the same time, she’s very quiet and gentle in her personality but extremely affectionate and cuddly. Not in the same ways all the boys were/are but like Luna almost more extreme. Like she just wants to be close to us and looks after us so well. She’s the most sensitive cat i‘ve ever had I think 🤔 but then again wait and see. I just love how different and unique they all are.. and a friend of mine has two cats, male and female and they both are more independent and not cuddly so.. personality is an important factor as well I think.

We have two cats. The oldest is a neutered female and she loves us fiercely to the point of having to escort us when we go for a walk. She knows where home is, and does spend most of her time indoors. The male is a rescue who chose us, and is the sweetest cat in the world. He is so sweet that even when you tickle his belly, he won't attack you with his claws or his bite. Even when I have to remove clumps, beggars lice, and gunk from his fur, which can be quite painful to a cat, he allows me to do the work with no complaints. And when I am done, he lets me know he is thankful. As for the question of adopting a male or female cat, I really don't see much difference in which is the better choice. Once your cat gets to know you and love you, it does not matter what sex they are. I personally think it is best to have at least one of each sex, as it allows both sexes to become well acquainted with each other, and keeps them from getting into serious fights with each other. Also this notion that cats should remain indoors, and never be allowed outdoors, is ridiculous. If you treat your cat with respect and love, he/she will treat you the same way. Also letting your cats have outdoor time keeps them from getting underfoot where you might accidentally hurt them by stepping on them; and believe me, it can cause serious injury to your cat if your foot has all of your weight bearing down on the cat. Bones can be broken, as well as many other internal injuries by such accidents. Granted, when your cat is indoors with you, you cannot always know where your cat might be, and the cat may sometimes get underfoot without you knowing it. So it becomes a needed habit to always watch your step to help prevent as much pain as you possibly can for your cats. Another thing to consider, is how well your cat cat recognize danger from dogs. It is well known that many dogs go after cats and often kill them if they can. So you need to be vigilant when your cat is outdoors, and watch what your cat does when threatened by a dog or more. as cats can climb trees, if you see yours use that to get away from a dog, chances are that you need worry about your cat only a little. If your cat finds a place where the dog cannot go, you can be assured the cat knows what to do to get to safety.

I've lived with and owned both male and female cats since I was a baby, and I've found that neutered male cats are super soppy, cuddly, and generally friendly towards everyone, unlike female cats. Two out of the three female cats I have owned (currently have a 7-year-old female tabby) have both been very aloof, very fussy, and only bonded to one person in the family. Fortunately for me, my current cat has chosen me as her human but will only give affection when she wants. However, I don't just think it's down to their gender that affects their personality, both female cats that were aloof were also both tabbies, and the third female was black and white and the sweetest thing ever. The same goes for the male cats I've owned, both were Gingers, they were so loving and total goofballs - From my experience, I think it's more their colouring that affects their personality rather than their gender.

I am not an expert on cats, but this is what I know. Back in 2009 I went to bring in the trash container and heard meowing. Out from under my neighbors house came 6 tiny orphaned kittens. They were so young their eyes were barely open and we had to bottle feed them. After they got older we discovered all 6 were males. Researching cat reproduction I found out that a litter can have more than one father and that most cats are male, it isn't 50/50 like with humans. So you might want a female cat, but chances are you will get a male. And that is fine. What is more important than the sex is the age when you adopt your kitten. Ours were so young they can't remember their mother, they think we are their parents, and they are very loving. Once a cat gets older and has unpleasant experiences it can develop a poor demeanor and it won't be as good a companion. We found homes for 3 and kept 3. My other recommendation is to get two siblings so they can socialize and groom each other.

As behaviour, males seemed more sweet, less aggressive, while female tend to be more bossy (even toward humans) and more indipendent. My cats, the old one (she has dementia for a coulpe of days, as she is 19) was quite aggressive, in search of vice (yes, we had to throw a papyrus plant because she used it as drug, and she had withdrawal symptoms for a while), but she was also very smart and sensitive. She was neutered after having had three heats. The younger cat was neutered before the first heat, so she still behave like a 6 months old kitten, including the way she walks. She's aggressive toward cats, and very sweet toward people. She is 9 years old. Both my cays have indipendent personalities. Is also true that in cat species, in bigger colonies are females that usually rule. Because females, by raising kittens, can show how worth they are as mother (adopted kittens count) More kitten they raise, more power they gain. Male only can show their strenght (so female can carefully chose the stronger males for better genepol). Male have bigger territories than females, but less power. In reality cats don't 'rule' like dogs or lions do. The alphga cat is more about surviving of the specie at the moment of mating. The weakest cat has all the rights to keep his prey, not even an alpha female can steal it.

I confirm. male are more affectionate. Unfortunately, intact or neutered, they wander far from home. I just lost one of my males (that was semi-feral. He was so big and so gentle). My 19 years old female hadn't dementia, but she had symptoms of CKD and she died few days later. She was a Scottish Fold mix, with the mutant TRPV4 gene. Overall, now that I had/have male cats, I like them better. They're more cuddly.

My male cat ran away before a snow storm but miraculously came back a month later injured. We spent a ton of money getting him fixed up and neutered only for him to heal and run away for good. It was a good 9 years while it lasted

We had a feral female cat that we rescued in our garage. She(Peanut). lost her friends in our house, We lost 3 cats to illness in 2 years, Her good friends. We moved and adopted 2 older male cats BJ and Murphy for her and while it is taking some time she is warming up to them.

I’ve had cats all my life, and in my 38 years females have ALWAYS been less affectionate and more independent/stand-offish than males. The typical cat that gives affection on her terms. Male cats have always been friendlier, more loving and cuddly-AFTER they were neutered. You should ALWAYS-WITHOUT EXCEPTION-get your cat fixed, especially if it’s young. For males it curbs their territorial behavior and causes them to be more docile and less likely to fight. Both my males were fixed before they turned 1 and they’ve always gotten along perfectly. However, one of them is indoor/outdoor, and neighbor Toms that aren’t fixed will jump him and bully him. If you can’t adopt an already fixed cat (almost all shelters spay/neuter before adoption, or have spay/neuter agreements and provide discounts for the procedure), and you can’t afford to get it fixed, or have the time, don’t get a cat. Period. There are far more cats than dogs in shelters, and far more cats than dogs are euthanized, often as tiny babies, due to overflow in shelters and how much attention newborns need. Of course the same goes for dogs. ALWAYS SPAY/NEUTER YOUR PETS. You’ll all be much happier and healthier, and you’ll help the animal shelters too!

My boys have always been more friendly than the female cats I grew up with. BUT all of our/my cats were always fixed asap, so maybe without their corresponding hormones present, it's a totally different situation as far as who's more cuddly.

I think the cuddle, roaming and other traits also go with their personality (which can reflect on the parent cats), environment is a biggie that is for sure, but my Girl cat who I had from 5wks till she passed from cancer at 16, was one for constant contact, she liked sitting on my feet and staying right under me when I stood or walked around, wasn't one for being held or being reassured though. I currently have two boys, same litter, never have spent one day if not one minute without each other, they are needy, can't stand being outside nor want to roam unless they are on a leash and still stay right next to my feet, and prefer cuddles over everything. It really depends on the kitty. But I do say its always best to desex the cat soon as possible to remove health issues and unneeded stressors in their lives, unless they are a breeder then, I suppose thats a bit different.

Regardless of the sex of the cat, _please_ spay/neuter your pets! It's beneficial to the cat because it reduces their stress levels and their risk of developing certain cancers, and it's beneficial to us because it helps to reduce the cat population and even out their temperament.

I think that there are always exceptions , my male cat never scratches me even when I rub his belly , he's very chill and loves petting . Although my female cat is a massive scratcher and more energetic. She's really affectionate and she always wants to spend time with me , she meows very loudly when she sees me haha

I got a stray boy cat, and I love him! His name is Milo, he shows affection, he likes oatmeal,Chicken and cooked rice! He has Liver or Gallbladder disease. We will bring him to the vet when my dad is off from work. Milo’s claws seem to be in bad condition. I love him very much, I want to get another cat for Milo to make a friend! I made him a temporary card board litter box. He sleeps outside but bathes inside, he can’t come in the house unless he is healthy. I hope he gets better soon, to be inside the house and officially a indoor house cat, he was only inside for like 2 minutes when my mom brought him home. I love Milo dearly.
