In this video, I design and DIY a hardscape / landscape PATHWAY while discussing the cost to DIY and the quotes given from professionals. Landscaping projects can be fun and rewarding projects to do at home.

Any outside work is much harder than we imagine and think. I as a pro always get tricked when an outdoor project comes along. Always! We established that at your pergola/deck build but I'll repeat it again. No matter what pro's would charge, you doing your own work, in your own house, surrounded with your family it is priceless. Literally! Especially when you do such a good job like this. That boy will remember all those moments spending time with you in the yard. Can anyone put a tag on that? Nope! Great job Donnie and all the best. 💪👊👍

Super awesome build! If your narration is how your thoughts tend to be, minds work in similar ways. Im a public school teacher and believe in public schooling for many reasons, but i do think homeschooling is possible to do way better than public schooling, budiI dont think most people are prepared for what that means. Teaching is an art form. The way you described the gravik railings and their functions in easy to understand and descriptive terms is how a teacher speaks. If you take the time to learn 4 or 5 different pedagogies (teaching philosophies) and start forming your own opinions while tutoring your children, you will start to understand how intentional good teaching is. Therefore, if you can teach well on a 1 to 1 basis, you will out-preform a teacher that operates on a 1 to 25ish basis. Closing remark, teachers take time to become good at teaching. Buy a few local teachers a few beers and they will be honest about what you're possibly in for. Keep open minded to all options and good luck!

You did such a great job on this project. I have a walkway I've been trying to figure out what to do and how to diy it. I was going to do a concrete walkway my problem is it's on a slight hill. Came across your video and I'd like to do something similar. Can you share links to the grid lock system you used or at the least the company name? Thank you and keep up the great work!

I'm 55, I live in Chicago, although homeschooling is new to most it's been part of my family for many years. Don't worry about socializing your son, that's easy, there's so many ways to do this, co ops, sports, other homeschoolers .

Absolutely homeschool. You direct your child's future. Join a private homeschool association that legitimizes your records. Don't go with the state! You can join all kinds of groups for music, art, sports, advanced courses, etc. (I became a 4H leader.) There is so much more now than there used to be. Just don't get caught up in computer learning. Be involved. As your son gets older, he can take dual credit courses at community college to prep for college. There is freedom in homeschooling in many ways. Last word of advice--learn your legal rights as a homeschooler and how to respond should anyone from the city, county, state come knocking at your door. There are those who want to make homeschooling illegal AGAIN. Do your homework. : )

My partner (24) was homeschooled and she would have preferred to be in public school. A parent can still be teaching their kids after school, on the weekends, and in the summer. I don't think schools are meant to teach everything. Home Ec would be nice though. One concern for homeschooling is falling behind in academics like reading ability and math. As long as they're grade level or advanced, I think it's a safer bet, especially if a child feels a responsibility and has motivation for their own learning.

You do great work. Just watched my third video of your work. I like the "Is It Cheaper" series. On the home school front. That's tough one. It boils don't to how good your school district is and do the teach or indoctrinate. Many school systems indoctrinate so you need to be diligent to look into that. The next question is, can you and your wife put together a teaching plan. Fortunately, there are lots of great home school programs that you can get and join with other HS parents. TBH, our kids spend about an hour (if they are lucky) learning in school. 85% of the school day is a waste. You will find that your child will learn more with 2-3 hours of actual learning a day and be light years ahead of public and private school students. HS associations allow your child to be taught by other parents who have expertise in specific subjects, if you and your wife don't. As for the social skills, public school causes social issues. HS has the benefit of socializing with other HSers, which will be more mature students. I know a lot of HS familes. They are much better citizens than what the school system produces. If you can do it, definitely do.

Great work! Always appreciate your posts. My friends who home school their kids are very happy. That being said it's a full time job. And you have to pay careful attention to socialization. But the various home school groups in every area have that figured out. Good luck!

When homeschooled you are not restricted to 6 hours a day 5 says a week of formal education! A kid can learn so much naturally any time or day and even summer!

By the way, I like your DIY videos! Good luck with the homeschool search. Its the best switch you will do. If it doesnt work out and its not for your family then you can always put your child back into in person school. Try it out first. Homeschool students excell so greatly some even finish collage faster than those that are in a public school full time. The child has more time to do things they love or explore different things. Anyway. 😂 I am sorry i love homeschool and all the opportunities the kids get through it.

I was homeschooled, went to college and graduated with a 3.5 from a school that (at least at the time) was 7th toughest in the nation to earn an A. It can be done as well or as poorly as you want to do it. Homeschooling is all about what you put into it.

Yes homeschool! I have a 5 year old and a 3 year old. My 5 year old just completed TK in a Charter school. Look up Charter Schools! Charter schools are public schools they offer many kinds of programs from all vertual school, in person school, half vertual half homeschool and all homeschool. The thing about charter schools is that it is a public school accredited because it's state and federally funded because it's a public school. With the homeschool charter option depending in the charter school you choose. You can recieve funds to help cover the costs of curriculum and school supplies. Homeschool option you are the teacher. In public schools they pay the teachers, right? Well in homeschool you are the teacher so you get those funds for your student. Because its a public school its free to the public. So my son he finished TK he is starting kindergarden next year (August) they offer enrichment classes (in person classes) for the social aspect of learning. My son will go to school for 2 hours twice a week for kindergarden. They offer this classes at school in oersin twice to three times a week for 2 to 4 hours. You choose which subject you want your child to be in. My charter school offers theater, art classs, S.T.E.M classes, Science classes, and common core classes. My charter school also offers alot i mean ALOT of field trips too. Often times the studen and 1 partent is paid for. Charter school vary per area but they are out there. Research them! They are the best of both worlds. Public school and homeschool worlds.

Great job. Looks fantastic. And Yes! Get your little supervisor out of the school system. We've been homeschooling our 4 kids since day 1. Ages 8 to 15. My 8 years old can't sit still and does his math on the branch of an acacia tree. My 15 years old kid will be taking the SAT next month and plays the flute while watching her goats. As far as the social stuff, that was always the criticism I received from my relatives and friends, but there's no lost there. My kids are very friendly and as any other child, they can make friends so easily. Besides, you can become part of a church, co-op, association or group where you can get support from other HS families, and the kids get to meet other HS kids like them. All those things you mention are more important in life than just the academics. As fathers we should take charge in a more `hands on` way the education of our next generation. God's speed.

@DesignsbyDonnie our kids will be in 3rd and 5th grade this year. Our school system is changing a bunch of stuff and we really don't like the changes so we are taking things into our own hands. Plus it means more time with the kids, less time commuting, we can have fun activities, taking more trips/vacations/time off, and we can teach the kids things we find important, like trades/skills and momey vs what the state thinks is important

Do home schooling man! We had our kids skip kindergarten and go right to first grade. He went in reading and had basic math skills. Got out not knowing how to read but a few words and zero math skills. In other words lost a year. We have undone all of that and is so much better off. Kid is way happier, kept his friends from school and when they come over our son is the one reading them the books. Or helping them understand math. Schools have lost their values and in many cases around our continent their morals too.

I'm here to respond to the homeschooling question. I home schooled my two children when it still wasn't a very popular thing. I was criticized because of the " lack of socialization." And as an African American mom living in the inner city of Newark, NJ, it was strongly viewed as a "white" person thing. Smh. I did have a sort of community of people that supported me thar were also homeschooling and attended the conference in my state for the years that I did teach my children 4 in total. I can say it isn't for the faint at heart. You and your wife will have him 24/7 with little breaks. However, socializing in the PS system is at an all-time low. No matter what, bullying is still a thing. The subjects you speak of can be taught at home in a real world sense. You can socialize your child with more than just their peers. Teach them how to converse with adults and people of aaaalll ages. My children are young adults now and at first resented being home schooled when they went out into the adult world, but now thank me for teaching them how to think critically and for themselves on what is right and wrong. They went to public school for high school because their father and I divorced, but they were able to have real conversations when being taught foolishness from the teachers. I still miss the times we ventured to the museums and other places. You're welcome to reach out if you have any questions. mamawawa073@gmail.com

I homeschooled my 3 children and dont have any regrets! These DYIs are legitimate teaching moments. As far as socializing, does your area have a 4-H? He can socialize through community activities and maybe if you become a leader you can teach others a few things too. Im going to keep watching let us know what you decided

Any yard work can be miserable in the heat of summer! So you either desire to do it yourself, pay someone to do it, or leave it alone! Fall and winter can be good to do some work. I think of it as a work out in summer. I’m turning 50 this year and yes I took woodworking, welding, business ed, other classes that was offered. Schools have changed. Socialism has changed. While I agree that kids need interaction problems are in schools themselves these days. I’d say homeschool if possible and let them take up sports to interact with others. To be successful they need to focus on education.

As a teacher, I would always recommend kids learning in a school environment. Homeschooling has its place, but in my opinion, is very limiting when it comes to certain aspects of education. When I think about my school experience, I learned about things that my parents would never have shown an interest in me learning. I was lucky to go to a public school that was located next to a park, so running, playing tennis, fishing, and archery were all offered in Phys. Ed. We had a large, dedicated theater, we took trips to art and science museums, and saw Broadway style shows. My school had classes on small engine and auto repair; we had shop classes in metal working, woodworking, printing; as well as home economics. There were also several different after-school activities that were centered around crafts, debating, speech and theatre, home building/construction work. This is all to say that, while not knocking homeschooling, it is very hard for one or two parents to bring as much of a well rounded learning experience to a young mind.

Homeschooling has MORE opportunities not limited! In a school setting your in a controlled environment with time limits and constrictions! The data shows homeschooled kids test higher on all tests and colleges love to accept a homeschooled kid

Started on my fieldstone landscaping wall. Taking waaaaay longer than I anticipated and now it’s getting hot in the South. Started it in late spring. Thought I could knock it out in a weekend. WRONG! DEFINITELY HOMESCHOOL. It is way different than when I was a kid. I did not personally because it was weird then. Now that my kids are in college… knowing what I know now…if I would have kids now.. I would definitely homeschool them. Or have them “homeschooled “. You don’t have to do it yourself anymore.

Homeschooling is absolutely ridiculous, when we have excellent public schools full of dedicated education professionals. Not to mention the social benefits of going to school and learning to interact with others as they grow and develop. You can't recreate any of that at home.
