So obviously I've had a lot of comments about the ‘delay’ I was hearing and I addressed it in this video after listening again while editing. I put up a text comment on the screen explaining that it was probably just synths and reverb I was hearing. However! It just occurred to me that there is a whole other guitar part in there played by Scott that none of us even thought to address. I would say it probably has a little to do with that. 😆 Regardless, these guys are freaks. I'm becoming inspired to have a crack at learning it.
@KakavashaForever

Did you ever end up learning it? Took me 4 months, chipping at it every day, and I still wouldn't be confident enough to play it live in front of anyone lol. Specifically the end part, I get through it clean maybe once every 8 runs.

You are right about that the band has no weak link. Tim writes crazy music from random ass melodies he happens to have stuck in his head. Then make a very basic song out of it and pass it along to each band member so they can compose their own part and see how it can fit into the song. There aesthetic of their band's looks is on tim's part doing that to market themselves to younger audience and that also allows them to sell merch and music tabs for fans. They cash in on tours and improve their stage presence a lot over the years from standing around like robots to actually put on a decent show. Their music video aligns with what the song is and the music videos are done to an insane way too with very talented music video directors and editors. Tim also collaborates with a lot of talented music producers and other musicians to help him compose, mix, and master the tracks for their songs. They have great amazing music videos i've ever seen from any artist or band. The color scheme they choose, the clothes and outfits, the equipment they use, the editing of the video, and creative artistic style the video has is dripping with things to hook yours eye glued to the video. Securing branding deals is crazy too where they got Ibanez to make signature guitars for the band and Clay A the drummer got deal with Tama for the drums and Meinl Cymbals... Soo crazy... All in all, Tim has this music game on lockdown in every aspect. The surprising thing is, the band is making them all big money!! They got a lot of sponsors and branding deals from Tim working his ass off to get all of that launch with his marketing using social media, hes really clever in that space more than the usual people from his demographic.
@PrymalChaos

Yeah, you can’t just play music anymore. You really need to be business savvy. Brand deals are a great way for them to keep the ball rolling. Especially being that any company would be silly NOT to endorse these guys.

I have to disagree with the delay hypothesis ... I'm watching his Alternate picking, and I'm seeing a correlation between the hammer ons and the picking style ??? It's so far beyond and outside what I can actually play ( ... and I'm actually a fucking decent player) that I'm just postulating. I figure if I can't play the fuckin' thing I'll just use big words and sound smart ... LOL

the TOD10N that hes using is built different than your normal classic (obviously with the slimmer shape). They also changed the neck shape and string height from most classical guitars. I do own this guitar and ive also played classical guitars. They do SOUND better on here but they are still quite hard to hit as you have to be EXACT on where your fingers are. I can play harmonics on electric all day without worrying much but with the TOD10N, you have to really pay attention to where your fingers are for sure. GREAT guitar to own coming from electrics though

I think the reason the harmonics sound so good is because they're hybrid picked. I don't know what it is but when I hybrid pick it sounds exponentially better than when I normally pick the harmonics. There's more of a clean , brighter harmonic.

I'll be very interested to see more about these guitars when Ibanez eventually releases them to the public as right now they're custom models. It does seem like they have higher tension than a normal classical guitar which probably also allows them to have a little bit better action since the strings don't oscillate as much. Similar things have been done with thin-line acoustic-electric guitars.

It’s not so much the playing…. It’s that he came up with this in the first place. You can analyze all you want but the fact remains that he did it and you are analyzing it from the backside of how he did it. How he comes to this… including the “mechanics” of it is what makes this so magical. Learning to recreate what he did is only the smallest part of understanding. The biggest part is understanding what and how he did it. Copying him is not going to get you what you or I what we yearn for. It’s his creative ability that really mystifies us all.

I think it is just something with the synth on the backing track. I can see and hear the picked notes, hybrid picked notes, and there are also palm muted “ghost” notes in a couple spots.
@PrymalChaos
@PrymalChaos 2 года назад
Yeah I think what could have confused me is the pattern ‘sounds’ like what most people sound like when they are using a delay with an equal volume and fairly short feedback setting. There’s just so many notes and it’s percussive and rhythmic in nature, so it ‘feels like a delay part that anyone else would play. Because of that I think my mind just expected to hear delay artefacts so in turn I heard them under the track (when really it was probably just reverb and the synth parts). Tim is wild! Also I think a lot of people are commenting on this one cause I may have pushed the limits with the click-bait title. 😄 it may make me seem like a bit of a hater, and quite honestly that couldn’t be further from the truth. I honestly was just testing to see if click bait works as well as I think it does. Personally I hate it but it seems to be the way youtube is heading with what works and what doesn’t in the algorithm.

Yeah. Turns out I was hearing things. My first impression was that some of the notes were repeats, and because of that on my second listening (this version) I carried over that idea, but when I scrutinised it while I was editing I noticed I was just hearing ephemeral stuff in the mix and conflating it to reverb/delay artefacts that made me hear those notes as delay produced notes. I put up an apology at 8:17. Music is hard. 🤣

Tim is a genius, it’s a genius part, but it doesn’t change the fact that there are fx in use. I don’t know why people get defensive about it. I rarely play without one. It’s all in service of the song. I think that possibly it’s there in the studio track, not there in this one, and that’s where the confusion seems to come from.
