Is it okay to make Jesus jokes? 

The humor makes every character so relatable. My 16 yr old daughter has always kept her prayers real and even jokes with God. When asked to pray over dinner one night a few years ago she said, "Thank you, Lord, for the raccoon and the car that provided it." And then she continued to laugh and talk to God like He was right there laughing with her. So, when Jesus is praying and the kids are hiding, His prayer is exactly the type of prayer my daughter would pray. God gave us humor and He is not offended by our lightheartedness.

A miracle happened while watching The Chosen. Jesus was teaching the people there in capernaum and on one occasion the people gathered in such large numbers that there was no room left inside the house where he was teaching, not even outside the door. Some men came carrying a paralyzed man but could not get inside, so they made an opening in the roof above Jesus and then lowered the man down. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man, :Son, your sins are forgiven. Then Jesus says to the lady, "your faith is beautiful". And I prayed at the same time, my faith is beautiful and my sins are forgiven. I'm blessed and very much happy. I had sinusitis and I couldn't sleep properly for 10 years. I'm completely alright, I'm sleeping happily. Thank you Jesus.

Seeing Jesus chuckle, wink, hum, sing, roll his eyes, tell jokes...it's made my heart so happy and I'm falling in love with Him and wanting to return to Church and read my Bible. Thank you xx

The best line of humor was about the ghost.... Jesus going " oh I will take that one" was something I could see him saying and doing yet made me laugh

One time I asked the Father in my heart what he found funny and he showed me a mother tickling her child and they were laughing so hard together. When I think about it, now that I am a mother, there is great joy in that wholesome, contagious laughter.. God is so incredible!

For me, Jesus HAD do be funny and very nice to talk to. Look at all He did and His legacy. For a "man" to create such a great movement and touch so many people, He had to have an amazing personality! I really don't think He was all serious, like these old movies usually portrait Him. For me, Jesus had a healthy sense of humor and had to be an interesting and funny person to talk to. Otherwise, how would He win the love of so many people? ☺️

My best friend and I were talking about this exact thing the other day. God invented humor. It feels wonderful to laugh - and research has proved laughter helps us heal more quickly. And we even have some degree of scriptural evidence to back you up - when Jesus spoke of the blind leading the blind, there was definitely a degree of gentle sarcasm. He was essentially saying to them, "See how absurd that is??" Thanks for what you're doing with this show; you are in my prayers!! :D

He even has humor in the Gospels! The parable about the plank of wood, blind guides, the persistent widow, the friend. Christ was a master of puns and irony.

Just makes everything more human related! I love it!!!

I laughed so hard when, at the wedding feast, Simons asks Jesus what he thinks about Andrew’s dancing...!!! 😂🤣😂 I’m not going to spoil it for those who haven’t watched it yet, but it’s HILARIOUS!!! The silent laugh of Jesus when Simon’s mother-in-law jumps out of bed and orders Andrew to stoke the fire! The humanity of Jesus is so beautifully written! My heart gets so heavy, knowing the weight Jesus carries to spread the Good News in such a short amount of time. So when a lighter moment comes along that makes me smile or laugh - or watch Jesus laugh...! It just makes this beautiful, awesome show all the more amazing! ✝️🐠❤️❤️❤️

One of my favorite scenes is from Ep3, where Abigail & Joshua (The Brave) are debating whether or not to talk to Jesus. He clearly hears them from behind the wall and goes total 'dad humor' on them by making all those noises, I laughed so hard at that. Being a father myself, I completely identified with that scene - as well as many others. Season 1 was just brilliant and I enjoyed it thoroughly!!

He made us in His image and where would we be without a sense of humour and without the ability to laugh at ourselves?

This is the best portrayal of the Jesus I have come to know in the scriptures. Someone everyone wants to be around, someone who knows us to the core and loves us anyway. His humor and gentleness yet strength and justice is the Jesus I personally have met. Thank you for bringing us and those who've never met Him close to His heart. God Bless you guys!

The funniest scenes for me is when someone says you haven’t been to a party before someone else says I’ve been to lots I’ve just never been invited to one before

Yes. And the joke in Ep 5, where Jesus cannot help Andrew's clumsy dancing, is really amazing. All this, along with the casual dialog not found directly in the Bible, humanizes Jesus immensely. It helps answer the question, "what was it like to be there with Him". I think it helps us to relate to Him in a more unfeigned personal way.

I can imagine Jesus not smiling and happy. Even though he was fully God...he was also fully human with human emotions...he was the epitome of Love incarnate ..I can visualize him sneaking up on his mother to scare her and hiding the dicipiles robes when they went to bathe...lol..I just can't see him being a total cranky sourpus every day. I see him with a beautiful smile and laughing and joyful. He loved I'd enough to shed his blood on the Cross. I love the way his character portrays his human side. I can't imagine heaven being anything less than the most astounding joy and beauty we could ever think of. 😁❤️.

This really helps you understand that JESUS took full human form, He could feel hungry, laugh and I loved that He was brushing His teeth in the episode with the kids Ahwwww priceless. You now know that the human in Him had to go through pain for my sins. Thank you guys

I really like how this project is showing Jesus as "just one of us" including a good taste for humor. I do believe that this will help people to identify with Him, especially non-believers. Also, the perspective putting "more flesh" around the Biblical characters will help people appreciate more what Jesus meant for them in their situation. Really looking forward to season 2!

You know I wouldn’t put it past Christ to do something like this, in order to show us how to handle our own petty mistakes. Don’t pity and beat ourselves up, but rather acknowledge it, make it right, then laugh at ourselves and move on.

I think humor can get to you in ways nothing can. Watching Jesus making jokes just reminded me he's relatable and likes to laugh just like every one of us. We need something funny in life otherwise life gets too serious. I know many people will not have the same out-take but what you did, Dallas is one of my favorite ways to connect with a character. I attended a mass 8 years ago or so,and the priest said that God don't feel happiness. Because He is God.I went in our flat complaining to my friends about the sermon. I was so disappointed I can't imagine a God who is not happy.

I watched the episodes of THE CHOSEN ONE. I have been stuck in my study life at one term for 3 years now. I want to get delivered and pass my exams this time and move on.. idk if I'll see miracles. But I believed something good will happen to me this decade. Please whoever is reading this. Pray for me so that I can prosper in my academics. Miracles and Graces. Well God is the one who created Humour! So I would assume it is very much a part of His everyday life! Haha

Just hang out with a bunch of Jews in a close-knit group and tell me they don't love to joke, banter, debate and especially argue. They are a very expressive, animated people and their passion for a good laugh is huge. Jesus was the Son of God, but he also became human and was very much a Jew like the rest.

I was coming back from school on my motorcycle once and it's kinda countryside and the gasoline runs out, it's dark and I'd have to push it for miles, then stops this car, a man saw me. He opened the door and was very very drunk, I remember thinking to myself: "Wow, a drunk man in a car offering help outta nowhere, this is God's 😂🤣😂". I had no money, we leave the motorcycle aside, I get in the car, he brings me to a gas station(almost out of control of the car), buys me gasoline, brings me back and when I asked his name he told me to thank God. Then he goes away, I put the gas and go home praising God!! What difficult times but it was so good at the same time because the Lord was always there!

2:07 oh my… My conception of Jesus when I was a little girl was He was my older brother. So its easy until these days feel Him so complete, perfect, and if joy of living came with it, of course He likes to make funny faces, or like laughter and make others happy! He’s everything good in the world.

A joyful God indeed. I've seen old films about Jesus' life, where actors portrayed a serious Jesus, then i first saw this movie "The Book Of Matthew", lines are Bible based (NIV) the actor portrays a happy Jesus, always smiling and laughing. Which gives me the thought that how can God gives joy to people if He is not joyful or happy? It really make sense to me now :-) Btw, The Chosen is one of the best series i've watched, every episode tears fell down on my face :-D God bless you all. Can't wait for season 2.

Then there is the running joke about Peter being a slow runner.

Jesus is silly sometimes too as He has given me dreams of pulling funny faces at me to cheer me up and then I would say oh silly Jesus. Other times where hes chasing me in the throne room and tickling me. Our Yeshua/Jesus is so loving too as I would lay my head on His heart too. I downloaded the app and it was around the time I was wanting to do a series on the life of Jesus for my preteen ministry and this show has helped a ton and I love the humanity of Jesus. My problem with other movies/shows about Jesus is that they make him all Holy and Perfect and never show his human side my mind pictures Jesus horseplaying with his disciples, telling jokes, and just loving people and the scene with the children oh so beautiful keep this show going

During my long life as I have read and watched and experienced how Jesus and His disciples have been portrayed, I have felt something missing in these portrayals. I would think about Jesus and these earthy, vital men hanging out together. I felt like these guys, along with their calling and devotion and struggles, were certainly playful and funny and rowdy and wonderful. I was delighted in The Chosen watching the humor created amongst these men, including Jesus, that made them authentic and dimentional and both holy and human. I especially loved the scene where they all cut loose and dove into the water, laughing and splashing, noisy and playful! It was a joyful scene that was truly delightful to experience!

Jesus I believe was full of fun, light abd laughter. Dallas and Jonathan Roomie do a a fantastic job of dipicting the Jesus I know and loves. His not stuffy, distance or angrey with us. He loves us is there in our darkest of hours, to remind us gently and tenderly when we have gone in the wrong path and gently leads us on the right path. He laughs with us when we laugh, crys with us and catches every tear when we cry and holds us tight when the big scary unpredictable storms of life pass by us. I actually had a dream that Jesus was playing a joke on someone but he didn’t want her to know I was watching so he said hide behind this. Then he said watch this. The thing I remember the most was the joke was not mean or malicious just funny! I love how you capture His heart!

The humor of Jesus is definitely one of my favorite parts of this show. He created us, he created laughter, he must have laughed and joked around with the disciples! It makes Him feel more personable and loving, in my opinion, and I LOVE that! Look at all the weird looking animals out there - he must have had a sense of humor, haha. People that can only see Jesus as boring and pious are the same people that are stuck in religious traditions and perhaps don't quite understand the personal relationship aspect of who He is and how He loves us and truly knows us and accepts us the way we are....... that is what I think. Maybe it is hard for them to see Him that way. And I love you guys too and your personalities behind the scene. I love that you can appreciate and respect the Importance of what you are portraying, yet not be afraid to make it lighter when you need to. (Ummm. . btw. . . Where are more men like you?? LOL)

The Bible says the joy of the Lord is my strength. Jesus has all the joy in the world, of course he laughs and jokes!

I had an experience of Jesus sharing His sense of humor with me.. (I've also experienced His corrections and His peaceful calm demeanor as well.) I was reading some of the things Jesus spoke to Gabrielle Bossis, that she recorded in her journal, "He and I", and was mesmerized in the way He put things to her. So in prayer, I said to Him, "Lord, You sure have a way with words!!" and I actually heard the Holy Spirit speak within me, with Jesus's reply: "That's because I AM The Word!" and along with what He said, I could feel His laughter , and sensed He said that with a wink and a smile ;-)

The first season is really good, you can feel that there is a great attention to the jewish root of christianity. Please, I know it is early to say that but look at the shroud STURP research and later findings to portrait an accurate depiction of Jesus Passion: flogging and crucifiction. All the one that have been done till now in other movies are not, although the Passion of the Christ is one of my favourite movie ever made the Passion is not depicted accurately. I suggest a talk with Barrie Schwortz. Keep up the amazing work and may God bless this project.

What such scenes (and most of the show in its portrayal of Jesus) do is they remind us Jesus was as much man as he was God but without SIN. THIS is what helps so many viewers identify with him. We often forget that in addition to being our God he said he's our friend & brother.

The Bible clearly shows that Jesus had a sense of humor, but based purely on the texts we have it seems to have been the very dry but clever humor portrayed in the series. And as people have said before, the creator of the universe must have clearly had a sense of humor to create a platypus. Think about it. If you or I were in Jesus' sandals, as the Son of almighty God walking the earth as a mortal, wouldn't you at least take some time for a little bit of humor that does not harm or offend?

I'm glad you all have the humor in there. Keeps the audience in touch with the fact Jonathan is an actor behind the part of the savior. I have to admit for a while when Passion came out I made that mistake a little bit with Jim Cavieziel. 🤷‍♀️ granted I may just be weird but some might do that on accident idk

From my experience with God, hearing his voice, crying out to him at various times in my life, I have witnessed his wonderful sense of humor ! Especially when I come to him about someone else's behavior!! It's those times when he will correct me, with a dash of humor!!! "Gentle as doves, wise as serpents!!! I've watched all of the first season. As for the actors, especially when playing Jesus, I can't imagine!! I have always identified with the woman at the well. This is such an amazing blessing... Praying for y'all. It's going to definitely be hard when this is a done deal, but I'm grateful for right here right now... Who knows maybe Jesus will give y'all other ideas...
