I’m 36 and after 25 years of extremely painful periods, getting increasingly worse the last decade, I finally found a doc that listened. She did an internal ultrasound which showed that I have a septate uterus and 2 huge cysts, one on each ovary, with one being an endometrial cyst. I cried in the office. I’m not crazy or weak and the pain I experience is not normal. I feel acknowledged. I have an appointment with a surgeon in a month.

Long history of endometriosis in my family. My mom had 4 miscarriages. We need to talk about endometriosis more. Thank you for covering this ❤

Iv had servere cramping.. rawness.. agonising horrendous period pain.. since my first period (17 yrs I started late).. Doctors weren't interested.. it was only when I went to see a gynecologist at age 32 because I couldn't get pregnant that a Laparoscopy showed I had Endometriosis.. & few polyps.. I was given Mefenamic-acid for the inflammation which helped a tiny bit.. I had IVF at 35 & that helped a little bit more.. Stil inl bad pain at 50 yrs

I had a hysterectomy last Aug. for post menopausal bleeding. I had adenomyosis and endometriosis. I never had any symptoms of either. So I was completely surprised. I feel very lucky.

Terrific information Doc! So kind of you to advocate for what appears to be a difficult-to-diagnose feminine condition.

Endometriosis is not the same tissue as in the uterus. It is similar but not the same

@@monvan9082It's an established fact. The incorrect definition Dr Rich uses is the same one that leads to incorrect treatment and even mutilation or castration of women.

I was diagnosed with endo a couple of years ago, after me getting utterly frustrated with my periods being all over the place for such a long time. Sometimes I didn't have them for months at a time and it was just never taken seriously. I went to a gyno when I was in my late teens because they hurt so much and after doing an ultrasound she said there was nothing wrong, except some small cysts in my ovaries, but no sign of endometriosis. So obviously I thought I couldn't have it, never told another doctor for years about any of the issues. Not until I started to bleed and spot weekly even when I wasn't having my periods. They diagnosed me with it, while not being 100% sure though, since I have IBS and they didn't wanna risk accidentally transferring any endo to my stomach and make my ibs worse. I'm still not completely sure what the hell I have, but I guess that's the fun in being a woman, eh?

Thank you so much for your videos. So my question is what if youve been told its pcos endometrosis and a hunch of other conflicting diagnosis? All from ob/gyns

Would love you to talk about adenomyosis. I had never heard of it until I was diagnosed with it via catscan. I had pcos, endo, and adeno which was causing anemia (monthly iron infusions) and had to get a hysterectomy to fix.

Hi Dr. Rich. How do you suggest a patient find a doctor for endometriosis excision surgery in the United States? Some insurances are limited like medical and you cannot really find a “endo specialist” doctor. Help please.

I think this is an area of medicine that is SEVERELY lacking. I wasn't diagnosed until I was 37, and even then, it was a soft diagnosis as I haven't had surgery yet. My new PCP(who was a woman and really listened to me) referred me out when she told me that chowing down on 800mgs of ibuprofen at a time, pan searing my abdomen and back with my heating pad on high, and hitting the floor in a fetal position when a particularly bad pain flare happens isn't actually normal. I totally thought it was until last year. I just thought excruciating pain was normal. Doesn't help that I also have hEDS, and fibromyalgia, which has elevated my pain tolerance, as I just have to live with excruciating daily chronic pain anyway. But my GYN basically said, "well, I can't really diagnose you without surgery, but all your symptoms are classic endometriosis", so he basically diagnosed me without diagnosing me. We are trying a medical, nonsurgical treatment currently with the depo shot, and it's going....ok. Not great, I still have flares, but at least I am not bleeding buckets every 20-28 days, and feeling like my period is actually going to kill me. But it's a slight improvement. I just hope there is more research being done for women, and more awareness is spread on our endo struggles.

Agreed! My pain was exactly like you are describing it: fetal position, sweating, praying for god to strike you dead, too much ibuprofen, trying to burn yourself with the heating pad, cannot walk, cannot think... I used to get offended when people said period pain "wasn't that bad", because for me... well I just thought maybe I was a sissy. I had a large chocolate cyst that burst and had to be removed in college and I still got that spiel from my OBGYN ("we can't really know, but it sounds like endometriosis") Since then I've been fortunate enough that my body now gives me a "warning cramp" that is much milder a day before my period starts- that's my signal to take a loading dose of naproxen and I stay on it until my period is gone. I'm really fortunate that it works for me. Naproxen is great for me because I felt like on the ibuprofen I had to take high doses- 800 mg like you said- but I would only get an hour or two of relief, because it would take an hour or so to kick in and would wear off by hour 3 or so. Naproxen is 12 hours, so it was much better for me. I hope you find relief!

I have normal periods however I do not have cramps, headaches, back pain at all, it just comes out naturally, I don't have periods that are out of normal, I have a lot of flow but it's normal color and normal color. Is it normal to not feel cramps or other pain in periods? Tysm for your videos I found them recently, very professional and kind. Another question, is it medically safe to not stop birth control? I have a friend that takes their meds until is over then buys another pack and keeps taking this makes her not have periods, I would like to ask, is there any huge side effect involved on this practice? Ty have a lovely day

I don’t remember what my doctors said and I’ve heard 28393 different opinions. One was that after 2-3 days and the other one after 7-10 days
