Apart from Genetics, maximum growth of a person is determined by secretion of Somatotropin/HGH (Human Growth hormone) and period when Growth Plates are open. Once growth plates are fused, growth is no longer possible. Somatotropin/HGH (Human Growth hormone)is secreted by Putuitary gland. It helps elongation of long bones in our body.
Growth peaks during Puberty for both boys and girls and continues to happen for 2-3 more years. For boys, height growth happens till 19-20 years of age and in some case continues till 21-22 years of age.
For girls, Growth plates fusion happens soon after puberty. Girls grow taller till 15-16 years of age. For most girls, growth stops after 17-18 years of age.
