Dear Netflix lawyers: Black mirrors (And other black reflective surfaces) have existed and been used as scrying devices for centuries, if not millennia. From the European tradition of scrying in black-cloth-backed glass to the more obscure Middle Eastern practice of gazing into black-polished thumbnails, black mirrors have been a thing since before your great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandpappies were out of diapers. Don't even bother trying.

a option id like to see, its called the straw theory. when you take a regular straw in a cup of water and cover it with your finger and pull it out, the water comes with it. scale that up, and have a larger straw in a pool, can you still pull it out of the water and have the water come with it? and how large can you go before it stops working ?
@jlco
@jlco 3 года назад
About ten meters. It should stop working at the same point you'd stop being able to suck water through the straw. You need pressure outside the straw to push the water up, and beyond a certain point, the pressure necessary exceeds atmospheric pressure. I think there was a vsauce video that discussed this (maybe vsauce2 or veritasium, idk). This isn't the video I was thinking of, but it's relevant: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HUmZrtiXDik.html

Wow! The stars must have aligned! Just last night I randomly salvaged an old LCD TV screen and was very impressed with it's reflectivity. I decided to turn the plastic sheet into a black mirror and I stumble across this! 😂 It'd be neat to see the technique you've used here to turn a full sized mirror into a black mirror that sits behind a thin reservoir of water. I'm also curious to know how other, more viscus liquids would perform in place of the water and what your thoughts were of the black mirror paint??

So the dependence upon a layer of air means that if you submerge the black mirror to enough depth that the pressure causes all of the air in the layer to dissolve, then it will quit working. But you could get one of these to work at depth by having an overcoat of gloss (the black paint shown at the start might even do the job by itself).
