🤣😜 glad I could be of service! I'm the same way, even though this is V3, I've remodeled this guitar probably 100 times when I learn a new technique, or want to change the design.

Man, this is huge. I tried doing this to a tele neck to update the profile but my design kept breaking and I threw in the towel. Now I know it's possible, thanks so much!

Thanks! I thought about including neck profiles, but I feel that is best reserved for bolt on necks where you don't need a flush transition to the body. Otherwise the profiles directly impact the shape of the transition, and that's asking a lot from the model.

A useful addition to the model would be to allow zero frets and setting the desired distance between the zero fret and the nut.

My parametric fretboard file actually has this feature included (as well as a recessed nut), but In order to simplify the model for full parametric control, I opted to remove those features and just keep a shelf nut since that's what I intended for this design. However, it's possible to have the other, both, or all 3 ... if you create separate headstocks for each and suppress the features not being used.

Totally amazing, Austin. An inspiration. Will next check out the parametric neck videos (out of order). A few thoughts on which I'd value your feedback: 1) seems to me you could assign a parameter to allow your body width to grow slightly for the >6-string models, couldn't you? I realize that you made a point in the video of wanting your body to be totally independent of the neck but maybe this one linked parameter wouldn't break it? 2) You didn't talk about # of frets as parametric and I saw that your # frets parameter had a comment that indicate that it'll break if

I actually did this at one point to my Mehr design. Every dimension in my body sketch had a multiplier that correlated to the number of strings. So the body scaled automatically. It was very difficult though, with how many dimensions I had, to maintain all the proportions. Im sorry for not showing this in more detail in the video. But this model actually allows for a different fret count. The only thing that breaks if

Also, yes, the bridge has to move to accommodate different fret counts and/or scale lengths. I was able to get up to about a 28" scale length without the bridge falling off the end of the guitar.

I managed to make 3 (almost) completely parametric guitars, but I was very annoyed I couldn't get the post holes to automatically increase/decrease with a string count parameter. That pattern tool thing you did is a big deal!

Nice work! It took me a while to find the best workflow for variable tuners as well. But I've actually got it working for both Inline and 3+3, but 3+3 is more difficult because once you add a string they become uneven. Mattia, that discord member I mentioned, showed me a way for Fusion to round up or down if it's an odd number. So for example, if you want the top row to increase when there is an odd number... Let's say strings= 7. Use the ceil function to round up ceil(strings\2)=4 And use the floor function to round down Floor(strings/2) = 3

I've done a bunch of multiscale with angled neck but only with varying degrees of success because of the compound angle/axes. This was the first one that truly worked reliably if I didn't push it too hard.

Which video do You cover adding fret count in? I've been moving back and forth between the 1st, 2nd and 3rd parametric fretboard videos you made, but it's a little confusing since the 1st video was revised in the 2nd and the 2nd video was again revised in the 3rd, I got most if it figured out (I think) as my sketches are behaving properly, but I'm still confused how you add a fret count. Is it a parametrically driven patterned sketch?

The benefit of cnc isn't speed, it's repeatability. You spend the majority of your effort up front in the design and programming, then the machine can spit out near identical parts reliably. However, with the proper tooling, CNCs are actually much faster than by hand once you get to large industrial machines like haas etc. They can finish an entire guitar that is nearly ready for finish in under an hour.
