Good morning to you Professor Fred! I have to say, the Everything Bee Vac is a wonderful tool, and it goes with me on every removal. However, I prefer my Robo style vac as my main, go to vac for removals due to it's ability to flush out the hose when clogged with bees. Would I recommend the Everything Bee Vac, yes indeed. Hands down, it is the best tool to remove swarms, and when working off a ladder, just strap it to the ladder and you don't need a long hose anymore. Tony has gotten rid of a lot of issues from earlier models of the vac, and I know he is still working on getting the plug for recharging located differently. I am sure you will bee very pleased once you use it for yourself. Always honored when you watch and leave a comment, thank you very much for that. Tell Annette hello for me. God's peace brother. Mr. Ed

I have less bee deaths using my vac since going to a smooth internal hose. The standard ribbed vacuum hoses cause to many injuries.
@wilfredkube8570
@wilfredkube8570 Год назад
Bee deaths in a bee-vac are much more likely to be due to using suction which is too strong. When you use a bee-vac with adjustable suction power, and when you use only gentle suction, the bees have much greater likelihood of being collected safely. The ribbed suction hose is not a problem under gentle suction conditions.
@UltFrizz
@UltFrizz Год назад
@@wilfredkube8570 I have to disagree. I do daily bee removals. Since changing to smooth ID hoses, I have a very low death rate. I can vac at almost full pressure and have less deaths then low pressure with ribbed hose. No one can tell me otherwise sorry.

@wilfredkube8570
@wilfredkube8570 Год назад
Would a shop-vac work? There is a BIG difference between picking up the bees, and picking them up without injuring or killing them. The main reason for this difference is how strong the suction is, and GENTLE suction is the answer. A shop-vac, or any other (household or industrial) vacuum cleaner is far too strong, and will kill many bees, UNLESS you adjust the vacuum to a gentle suction.

Id be concerned that the two colonies might fight or the queenless hive might not accept the queen from the other colony I know that you know more about it than i do so here is a question If i had a queenless hive can i take a frame from another hive with eggs larvae and bees and simply stick it in the middle of the queenless hive? Only I did that last year and the next day there were tons of dead bees out front as though they had a battle….😢
@JeffHorchoff
@JeffHorchoff 6 месяцев назад
My opinion is that re queening a hive by placing a frame of brood young enough on it into a queen less hive is the BEST way to re queen a queen less hive. By placing the frame of brood in it the bees will make emergency queen cells, and in about 15 days you will have a new queen walking on the comb. Also, before placing the frame into the queen less hive, make sure to knock off all the bees from it. This will prevent any fighting. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my bee wrangling/ bee rescues adventures and let me know what you think of them. By the way, I post a new video every Friday morning, and I look forward to hearing from you again soon. God's peace. Mr. Ed

Why can’t you release the Queen sooner if you see the workers aren’t trying to harm her? Seems like holding her very long would slow her laying cycle.
@JeffHorchoff
@JeffHorchoff Год назад
The queen is caged to discourage the bees from leaving the box., which in the past has happened on several occasions. If the queen is caged, and the bees know it, they will not abandon the queen and clean up the comb to prepare for her to begin laying. Though it delays her for a few days, she quickly makes up the difference. Thanks for watching. God's peace James. Mr. Ed

It's all about the aggressiveness of the bees. The bees in our region, at least for now, are very gentle as seen by this video, and the bees in Arizona and out west are VERY aggressive as seen in his videos. Why not just dump the bees into a second empty box on top and put the lid on? Seems like you might injure the queen dumping them on the floor.
@JeffHorchoff
@JeffHorchoff Год назад
In my opinion, regardless of where they are emptied, they will eventually get into the box, and because I wanted to find and cage the queen, dumping them on the concrete gives me an opportunity to look for the queen as they march into the hive. God's peace Larry. Mr. Ed

The wire mesh provides a scaffold, or framework, for the bees to hold onto. This is much safer for them than having to be clomped together as they are sucked into the bee-vac bucket.

@@JeffHorchoff Hi. I've done some research. I found that there is a Wikipedia article on bee swarming, and I found the following quote within it... "The queen stops laying to be trim enough to fly, and her newly unemployed nurse bees go with her." This isn't the complete story, because she will also be accompanied by more experienced bees to scout for a new location for the nest. I originally thought that the nurse bees would be needed to look after the brood in the old hive, but I now understand that the Queen ceases laying some days before swarming. Hope this is useful. 😁

Absolutely fascinating to watch them crawl towards and into the hive box. Without the queen in there, what draws them? Is it the scent of their brood, the honey/nectar? Fascinating.
@JeffHorchoff
@JeffHorchoff Год назад
Initially, it is their own comb that draws them. But, since the queen was in there that solidifies the whole thing. Thanks for watching. God's peace Paul. Mr. Ed

Man Mr Ed , what a great video !!! Thanks so much for taking the time to show us how it’s done … I’ve learned since I began bee wrangling that there are so many challenges to getting the bees to stay when you bring them home … I’ve got a cut out to do Monday at a church that was built during the 1800s in Louisville Alabama …according to the pastor they swarmed in about 3 months or so ago .. I went into the crawl space above the sanctuary today and I think I’ve found where they are ..I’ll take pictures and video some of the extraction and send it to you … thanks again for the helpful video !!!!..Lynn ..!!

Great informative video! I was wondering if the swarm bees were queen less wouldn’t they still have a different smell of their old hive to merge with another without fighting? Thanks for sharing with us. Have a great weekend !

Because the survival mode is so strong, once bees know they have lost their own queen, they will readily accept ANY new queen.Thanks for watching. God's peace Mary Jane. Mr. Ed

Jeff, do you have state apiary inspectors? My apiary was inspected this morning. Registration is mandatory in New York State. What about where live? I love watching the bees when you speed up the playback!

Unfortunately, I think the dead Queen and all the dead bees on the floor are from the bee colony you picked from the balcony :'( looks like the attempt to bring them together didn't go as well as you thought!
@JeffHorchoff
@JeffHorchoff Год назад
No, that is not the case. The dead queen was from the swarm as I vacuumed her on purpose after finding her in the pile on the ground. And the queen from the removal is live and well as I found her in the hive 2 days later. Thanks for watching. God's peace. Mr. Ed

Thank you for your blessings Frances, that is so awesome receiving them. I use a few methods to combine hives, but in general, I don't combine hives. It's only for certain circumstances I do it, and this time was a good example of " certain circumstances." Thanks for joining me this morning Frances. Until the next one, God's peace. Mr. Ed
