It takes me a lot longer but if I am patient, I generally find stuff on my list - I was recently travelling and wanted a cashmere sweater because it's warm and doesn't take a lot of luggage space. I found 4 in 4 weeks. A predicted heat wave is approaching, and I wanted a linen shapeless kind of "bag" dress and bingo! I have have to go often if I am searching for a particular thing.
This is why i could never do a single item challenge... sometimes you find -5 things at thrift, sometimes you find seventeen things. I just accept the chaos 🤷♀️ i haven't the self-control to turn down "fish in a bag" statues or jester skirts.
That jester skirt was absolutely a multi-way dress/skirt that you can wear a bunch of different ways. I had one that I got at an Earthbound back in the early 2010s. I think they called it a “magic wrap.”
Kathleen, girl, if you've already read the books once, just use Wikipedia or a synopsis to catch yourself up on major plot points. That's what I do! Save you so much rereading time.... unless that's what you want to do, of course.
Would highly recommend the Murderbot Diaries series! The TL;DR is basically a murdering machine gains sentience and would rather watch TV dramas than do their job. They're all short stories, and it's both hilarious and deep.
I'm mortified that you didn't get the checkered skirt! Never seen anything more Kathleen! However, the two piece was also gorgeous, so I'll forgive you 😂
You are so stinking cute, just found your channel and I’m loving it. I’m a 72 year young born in Ohio but now live in Florida. Don’t limit yourself lol😂 you should have bought the jester skirt I loved it so unique.
PLEASE the Jojo Siwa edit had me screaming! Was already considering subscribing, but that sealed the deal for me. Love your channel and sense of humor. 😂
I'm sooo envious of the thrift stores and garage sales you have in the States. I wish we had something like that in Spain! Luckily, I get to live vicariously through your amazing finds! On another note, that denim combo really caught my attention
I’m in London for a few weeks and thrifted One Thing at a Red Cross charity shop on Portobello Road: a floaty white dress that’s basically a giant mutant pirate shirt! Needs pockets, but I can fix that…
I'm always on the hunt for art and craft supplies, but I got a couple of fantastic mid century modern pieces of furniture for my home office, and now I'm on the hunt for matching things this summer, so I can do an overhaul of that space.
I also love thrifting. At the moment I'm converting my bedroom into a sewing/craft room--it's worth sleeping on the couch! So far I've thrifted a fantastic sewing table, a gorgeous floor lamp, 2 2-drawer units, a cute little cabinet and LOTS of baskets! I'm so excited!
I went around the lake i live on to do some yard-saleing/trash picking, and over the course of friday and Saturday, i got a new stool to use as a nightstand in my tiny college dorm room, some button pins to wear/give to friends, brand new starbucks cups from a reseller (cheaper than from starbucks), a whole computer monitor in perfect condition, and a kayak. The last 2 were at the same spot, and the stool was free from someones pile of stuff for big trash day. The thrift gods smiled upon me, to say the least
Becky Chambers is one of if not my favorite authors!! Psalm for the Wild Built is so so so so so gooood! Feel free to give reading updates whenever; I love hearing what other people are reading!
I'm going to a concert this August so my goal is to embroider as many little patches and flags as I can before then to hand out and hopefully make more friends! Also if no one has recommended it before, my favorite book series is "the Queens Thief" by Megan Whalen Turner- it's a story about a thief that gets entangled in a variety of royal courts. It's a Mediterranean fantasy, and the main character has brushes with various gods as well.
A Psalm for the Wild Built made me cry!! It was so confirming of all my feelings of being in limbo as a 20 something who's searching for meaning. Literally quitting my job because of the revelation it gave me
I have many thoughts. 1. I’m sorry your coffee spilled but when you first cut to that shot I was so sure someone had hit your car that I was relieved it was only a coffee spill. 2. I was sad you put the green polka dot skirt back on the rack without trying it on. 3. Silvia Moreno Garcia is one of my favorite authors. She’s able to write in a variety of genres. The books of hers that I’ve read and not liked were books I wouldn’t have picked up if she hadn’t written them. I didn’t like Mexican Gothic but I don’t like horror. I did think it was well written. Gods of Jade and Shadow is my favorite and I highly recommend that you read it.
If I lived anywhere near there I would be RUNNING to find that jester skirt!!! Our Wives Under the Sea is on my list too, and I really enjoyed what Moves the Dead ^_^
I love the beaded skirt and blouse set... I would wear it with sandals and a beaded wide brimmed hat for eating at the beach restaurant... just the right touch of bling and casual cut to be elegant but not overdressed in the summer time. Mind you... I just got done working as a volunteer at the Oregon Renaissance Faire for three weekends, so my idea of casual is a bit on the fancy side of life.
Thanks for getting me through my summer woes of being in an office for forever. It was such a breath of fresh air to see your lovely times. Thanks for putting in all that work and have a nice vacation
Go back for the skirt!!! It was so cute and fun! I’m watching Dhrama and Greg, it’s super cute. No real plans. Trying to set up play dates for my kiddos, helping one friend move and another friend who is at the end of her pregnancy. Germany has been oddly cool this summer but I’m not mad about it because we don’t have AC! And I have a goal of finding a red purse. That’s about it!
I love Psalm for the Wild Built!! It made me want to live in its world and if i can't at least live out its ethos in our world. I like hearing you chat about what you're reading. It's like hearing from a friend! P.S. i hope the lakes plural were a delight!!
We have astounding similar tastes in books! So I definitely put some you mentioned on hold on Libby! I’m currently reading “Home is where the bodies are.”
I would have bought the jester skirt for sure! Maybe you can go back and get it for us? Also, if you can handle a dark and twisted love story, this is the novel for you! These Violent Delights! My fave book of the last five years!!!
I also just demolished Becky Chambers Wayfarers series last / this month. I will have to pick up her other series before too long! I'm currently reading Adrian Tchaikovsky's Children of Time series (just started book 2) and it couldn't be more opposite of Becky Chambers but is still a great read.
Hot here, too. No traveling, but Tuesdays on the Square for Choice & a ceramics class on Wednesdays. Nasty Women Fiber Group every two weeks & knitting with a friend on Mondays. Supporting local women candidates & networking all the time. AND thrifting about once a week.
In case you weren’t aware, on the Libby app when things come available that you’ve had holds on you can select Deliver Later if you’re not quite ready for it. You can have it delivered again in a few days or in a month. I do it all the time! Works great. 😊
I’ve done it !! Sometimes the item is priced larger & the quality is better. Last week I bought three jumpers for daughter & I. I do go in with season specific items in mind. To be a conscious person is the sole reason why I thrift. Always buy my thermals new, everything else thrifted. Your tips are helpful
Right now my book club is reading Camp Damascus it is a little spooky and very gay, highly recommend it Additionally, i just got a bunch of stuff at a consignment store, including four new pair of shorts (doubling my shorts collection)
i’m SO sad the green dress already sold, i fell in love with it immediately, but i hope the person who bought it loves it! also to answer your book question, i just finished reading house of leaves and i’m a changed person 🧍 i have quite a few art ideas related to it and i’m already very excited to reread and mark up my copy
I don’t know if it would be your taste but I looove the book perfume-portrait of a murderer. It’s so good! I also really enjoyed reading yayoi kusamas autobiography, she’s one of my favorite artists and the book is not only informative but also has pictures, poems, life experiences and such in it, it’s very much worth it 💛
Can I recommend investing in a Kobo reader instead of a kindle? 1) it’s not made by Amazon 2) it is so much easier to link a library card to and read free books 3) it’s the price of 9 full priced hardcovers maybe only 8 so if you read more then 9 books it’s basically free. Also please read every heart a doorway, the wayward children series they are short little queer fantasy books
I couldn’t do this when I went to “just browse”😅 I ended up calling my mom and bein like 🥹 can a barrow $12 🥹🙏… she said yes 😁 and I got an Awesome iron!!! pinking sheers fabric scissors and a rotary cutting mat 😊
I just started to listen to the second Wayfarers book on audible! I love this series and I think I love it more in audio book form than I did when I was stealing my husband's library book to read snippets. The sapient AI became people to me in a way they just weren't on the page.
I haven’t read them in a while, but if you’re interested in zombies: Jonathan Maberry’s Rot & Ruin series; Carrie Ryan’s The Forest of Hands and Teeth series are both good. But my favorite is Max Brooks’ World War Z. Also, if you aren’t already on a book site, Goodreads is great for keeping track of your reads and finding new books. And then the Libby app is great for checking out books from libraries
My summer plans so far: Just gotta get through the exam period and survive 😭 (I'm in college). I've been so stressed, so unmotivated, but binging your videos helps me unwind. Thank you so much. AND I know once I'm done with my exams, I can get inspired by you and THRIFT and CRAFT till my little heart's content!! Can't wait. Wishing you all a happy summer!☀️🏞️
Best of luck. Don't stress. As an almost-old-person I can say that none of that stuff counts for anything much in the long run, and if you really want to do something work/careerwise, there are always alternative routes. Cut yourself some slack and enjoy being young 😊
if you are by chance going to a lake in northern michigan i HIGHLY recommend the thrifting up there. Most of the donation comes from rich old people getting rid of vintage stuff from their summer homes.
