Hey there! It's fascinating how you've sealed your koi pond so effectively, creating that bubbling effect. It shows your dedication to taking care of your koi and keeping an eye on the weather. Kudos to your wife for her thoughtful suggestion! Enjoy the warm days and have a fantastic weekend ahead!
We will be at -4 by Monday morning.. usually nov we get a lot ot negative.. You guys are about 5 c warmer. I agree about being almost obsessed with weather because of either my koi or my tropical fish in the summer.. You must have a great seal if it has domed up.. wow..
I think the fact you buried the edges of the plastic under a layer of soil this year has really helped to seal the pond. Based on what you show in this video with the plastic doming (not sure if that's actually a verb) you've, in a way, created a greenhouse for your koi. I'm sure they'll enjoy the winter weather much more than you will when the snow arrives. 🥶 😂
I think they do enjoy the break in the weather but they miss the view of the sky and the appearance of other animals, mainly birds, that visit the pond.
Gosh, you must have been freezing when you were riding your bike. You have warm temps, it's nice. Enjoy it while it lasts. Question, by being completely sealed, aren't you worried about the lack of gas exchange?
A little (good question). One side of me is always an experimenter. I do have constant fresh air blowing through my air pump and the furnace. It’s got to escape somewhere it’s just the the escape speed is the less than what is blown in hence the bubbling effect. I will install a chimney where it’ll be cool to watch smoke come out during the winter.
@KoiRun50 yeah true, it must escape somewhere otherwise your cover would really go up. And there is a lot of space between the water surface and the cover I guess.
Thank you my friend. Keep up the great work. We do get more extreme temperatures here than in the UK. Too warm for me yesterday but today it’s going to drop. Thanks for watching 🙏🇬🇧🇨🇦.
