Hi Dan. You may recall I asked your advice on a battery powered scarifier the other week. Well if it helps any of your viewers, then I went for the Cobra, did my 80-90 m. sq. lawn last weekend and it took all of 5 minutes. Quicker than the time it took me to set up the old extension cable 🤣Used hardly any of the battery juice and zipped through the task. I`d recommend it if anyone`s looking.
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert ah thank you so much for replying! I don’t have Facebook! Your videos are fantastic. Thank you for taking the time to share your expertise with us!
I don't bother looking at what other lawnsmiths say mate I just trust you ,, so cheers 👍👍👍👍👍👍,, absolutely love the step by step guide and info , gives you a lot of confidance,, flask at the ready my friend 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I love how you say others say you can’t do this or you can’t do this etc. all they have to do is look at your lawns in the late spring/summer to know that you 200% know what you’re doing. Best UK lawns on RU-vid by far👍👌👋👋
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert true 😀😂😂. Compared to conditions here in the uk to America though you’re on a losing battle at the start imo, if you get what I mean. The Chelsea fans lawn you do is👌👌👌👌👌👌👌
Great video with a clear understanding of the dos and don'ts when it comes to seeding and scarifiering and the explanation about how the moss holds the water and why it's bad for the lawn was well explained, I never knew that that moss was put into the bottom of hanging baskets, everyone who wants a better lawn should see this Vid, simply the best lawn expert on RU-vid.
I was amazed to see so much moss in this lawn…. Is the moss dead and ok to scarify only after a week? Thanks for marketing these Danual always a pleasure to watch. B
Daniel, great to see you starting the season early . I going leave reseeding u til the 1st week of April ……just ordering the seed next week …the price has gone up almost 80% for MM50 and Barenburg extreme in the last 2 years ! . Lock forward to seeing this lawn completed in the next few months
What do you guys use for a lawn that's lost all life and just riddled with weeds, Miss etc embedded into soil... it was a garden untouched for 5yrs and I have cleared it all down to ground and look I g for best products, weed treatment, topsoil (would you inc sand?) And seed and feeder... any advice great as I am left to look after a very neglected garden tat no one lives in but eventually will be
That's interesting. Here on the Isle of Wight I've been cutting lawns every two weeks through winter. I've noticed over the last 20 years as a gardener how in the seasons have shifted and changed. Although I do cut with a Cobra Hoover mower in winter and early spring. It's nice to hear someone else say what I've been thinking.
Hi Dan after reading your reply to Dan Ludlum the lawn sand I ordered last week will be going in the bin when it arrives Thanks for all your advice Best content on the net Kingsley
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert I was getting to mid November, did Dec in London 6 yrs ago, getting to that here now slowly... Have a look at my vids 😀. I've been going 20+ years. 🌱🌱🌱
I use my products in the videos all the way through so in a roundabout way, im doing a collaberation with another channel soon so gunna go through the products on that
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert I checked and it was the new stuff. Found some Field Compost No4 30 mins away and picking it up tomorrow. Just need the spring to get here now
Thank you for your advice Dan. Love your straightforward approach and delivered in our customary Gtr Mcr way 👌 keep up the great work. BTW, which backpack sprayer would you recommend pls ? Thanks AL
Hi Al, i use the berthoud valmoral its like £180 but if your looking for quality then this is it and you have a proper desire to use it, well worth investment
It’s still winter And I woke up to a nice inch covering of snow in South Shields this morning ; north east uk ) I won’t be putting any seed done till MAY
What are your thoughts on which seed to use? We have ok soil, but sandstone bedrock only 8-10inches away and surrounded by mature pines so it's often dry I summer, never waterlogged, we also have two dogs so get urine patches! We're on the Wirral (Merseyside) so NW but semi coastal, around 500sqm. Currently I'm using Lawnsmiths 'Staygreen' which is as below but considering branching out, maybe some Red Fescue? Some drought blends have KBG but I can't see what it gets you? Thanks. 30% Dwarf perennial rye grass 35% Rhizomateous tall fescue 35% Tall fescue
Hi Daniel, with you scarifying several times to get rid of the moss, are you using the rigid blades or the spring rake blades in your scarifier? Thanks.
Blades in this one more aggressive gets into the soil but when i get rid of most i may use the allett rake too do a nice clean up one , the allett rake would not get through this amount and id be forever emptying the box as would clog
Dan, I cant find any Field compost Bournemouth way, without having it delivered in large amounts, i only have a reletively.small garden. As I can only see the new Jack's Magic, what would you recommend as an alternative to overseed?
Hey Dan love your content mate keep up the good work. Might be a silly question but do you use a certain nozzle on the knapsack sprayer? Ones I have are shite don’t look anything like yours if you could help out would be very much appreciated 🤙🏻
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert thanks very much Dan I will order off that link you have sent me thanks again. Just watching your video at the moment of you cleaning the hayter the JT85 has brought it up like new
Dearest David. I have some large bare areas to repair this spring which I’ll cover with germination sheets. Once I’ve prepared and seeded the soil, I have a load of good quality top soil available. Should I cover the seed with a thin layer of 70/30 topsoil? I’m guessing I can/should but so much internet advice say Do Not? Not sure what to do.
Oh balls. I’ve blown my chance of an answer now 😞 Sorry Daniel. Auto correct and I didn’t have my glasses on. I always watch your vids to the end, no sliding, I swear.
Hi Daniel, I am renovating my lawn and using a different variety of grass. We are coming out of summer over here. Will the new grass be affected by the present grass? Do I have to dig it out and put a completely new soil? Thanks for the videos. They are very interesting!
Morning Dan. Can I apply Resolva lawn weedkiller BEFORE overseeding? I have read instructions which say it mustn't be applied within 6 months of sowing new grass.
What is the rush Are you planning on dying by may ?? Chill out Find something else to do Bang the mrs all over Wash the car Paint the living room The list of other things ya can do is endless And in a months time Then think about the lawn The hare always wins the rabbit for the best results
Hi Dan I've got a massive area to seed way too big too be able too to put compost down, what would you suggest? Would you just rake the seed into the topsoil?
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert Thanks Dan. I guess then every for a pretty high traffic but very well maintained lawn you would avoid? What Barenbrug would you recommend if you dont mind me asking?
I just do the lawns put before me, i used to do that one but they moved n new owner not interested n got someone else ill show pix next time im at the job from 2011 and 12
What's your thoughts on dormant seeding, when heading into warmer temps? Soil temps in my area have been steady around 40-43f° pro grade KBG and PRG over seed after a heavy power rake use
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert not sure whichn your referring to, so dormant seed, seeding during during winter months, pro grade KBG wnd PRG would be Barenbrugs Turf Pro blue, and our power rakes have flails and not blades like yalls verticutters ( which i have a old Mclane reel mower that i want to turn into a verticutter, but unsure of how many blades to get and spacing on them)
@@zachdailyfost4433 i would never seed unless i knew temps where good its alot of hope isnt it, i specialise in prg so the other varieties im not to sure about i know they take along time to germinate
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert fair enough, i spring starts basically this next week as temps are finally above freezing, and working up to 40s over night through the rest of the month, kentucky blue takes about 15-21 days to germinate
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert , every now and then I see a daddy king leg but my problem is the ryegrass has died and it’s mixed in with my Saint Augustine so it doesn’t look good. Not sure how to get rid of it.
Quick question pal, im moving into a new build in early April which will be turfed by the developer, any advice on how i can get into it early to improve the probable poor quality turf? cheers
@@danludlam1562 nope not for me used it many years ago, but not now its so dusty and very difficult to remove of paths etc if it touches a damp path its sticks and cant he swept or blown off, you will get a good colour but when it wears off you will have patchy growth from where double dosing has occurred, very difficult to apply accurately as so fine,
Never left a foot print so guessing the sole doesnt allow the iron to adhere and its such a thin layer , just make sure you sweep up or wash off after applying dilution is key watch part one!
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert Oops sorry. Missed it! We live in Herts and it’s freezing this week so nothing going on in the garden for at least a week or two. The rough location is important because there will be viewers all over the world and things will be different even at different latitudes in the U.K.
@@Tailspin80 hmm they all sound like me in the south east do they? So guessing you think peter kay ,vernon kay and paddy mcguinness are all from the south east then too?
I took a massive gamble this year and a bit of experimenting really. I did mine on the 29th January ahead of a slightly mild 2 week period. Fleeced for 3 weeks. Had frost during the 3rd. 2 weeks later I had germination and still getting new germination coming though. It is growing slow though just a Daniel said (👍) but that is expected for these temperatures hopefully they will make it though this next cold spell and ready to pick up with the warmer weather. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for ya Duke 790 there’s always room for a little faith
