My mom died from complications from Alzheimer’s disease and I, pushing 70, read, puzzle, journal, art, anything to keep my mind active and I have ADHD so it’s hard to focus at times. However I’m a hermit. Thanks for book recommendations.

My mom teaches piano, most of her students are adults who just want to try something new, they are not ambitious to become the next Chopin and with realistic expectations and regular practice they can learn what they want to play :) Her oldest beginner was 74yo. I myself was teaching at the "University of Third Age" (which is project our schools have for elders) and I taught violin to elders who wanted to learn. When you get older, you can see realistically what you can do and manage your expectations (like when you start playing violin in young age, the anatomy of your hands will be different when you grow up, can confirm from experience), but that's the only difference. ♥ I admire everyone who doesn't give up and still wants to learn ♥

Great video as always, Rick! When are the old ADHD videos coming back? They were really helpful and I'd like to share with a friend.

My 4 siblings and I gifted our Mom an iPad for her 80th Birthday in 2012!! This lady had never been on a computer but had always talked about wanting to learn how. Within 1 month Mom was playing Scrabble with ease, sending emails, Facetiming, watching Netflix, surfing the net, etc!!! She was tickled pink to say the least to be using her marvelous brain to learn something new!!

My dad is 60 years old, recently I have introduced him technology: smartphone, laptop, I was surprised how much he has learned though he always hated tech stuff. Its always good to learn new things and evolve the mind further.

Yes, I remember sitting my dad down in front of my brand new Mac with 512K of memory (It was 1985) and he was baffled for about 30 seconds but once I assumed him nothing could be destroyed he poked around. He rejoined us a half hour later very impressed at what it could do. And this was a man who could enter columns of 5 digit numbers into an adding machine like a speed typist. Then there's my mom who was gifted an iPad around 2010, didn't know how to make it work, but was soon talking to her grandkids and friends, downloading articles to read to the ladies at the retirement home. She was so alert and of course only went to reliable sources she knew and trusted. 90 years old an up on things like, "This Jay-Z is quite a sharp businessman..." Although, being Canadian, she called him 'Jay-Zed'! LOL

I keep forgetting who the quote is by but "practice makes permanent" is something that I kept in my head A LOT while I was studying at university, particularly when it came to rehearsing scenes. It is always much better to not rehearse a scene and just run lines than to rehearse a scene badly 100 times.

I really needed this video: having had a second chance at getting a higher degree at uni a few years back and last month I learnt to crochet, at 51. I really like the new look videos! I learnt recently that when you move plants its easier to drop old leaves (optimised for the original position) and grow brand new ones for the new location. I'm imagining you've just relocated the channel and with a bit of time there will be lovely glossy new videos with all the helpful stuff and more, bonne chance.

@@mamasaidno1749 your welcome. Unless your friend is a brain Dr but even they would not give such a hard stop like that. I get so ticked off when arm chair experts tell everyone else what to do what they hardly know how to wipe their own nose! I raised my kids to remove the word "can't " from their vocabulary. It stops all forward progress. I will say this they got really good at changing how the said can't! 🤣 My daughter would say things like "I have yet to aquire the skills to accomplish the task your asking me to do." It was brilliant! And left that door open, that is all I ever wanted them to do, see that there is ALWAYS an open door! ALWAYS! It might be difficult to get to, but it is there and if you work at it you can get to that door! Good luck with your son! And you already know what I think of your friends comment....

So why does this not seem to work in ASD with things like social interactions or with sensory processing disorder, that we fail to learn 1st time round let alone in mid 50's.
