I could try and convince you that your adult or senior pet still has a chance to transition to raw food, or I could tell you some stories from raw feeders who actually went through the process!

I switched to raw about 2 years ago. My 12 year old went from being an "old man" back to a playful pup. It was amazing and now at 14 he hasn't slowed down one bit. He still jumps into the air for his food bowl before I can set it down.

Yes! Switched my dog at 2 years old, he's almost 4. I got fed up with the monthly visit for skin infections, ear infections, constant itching, and waking up to diahreaa all over the house. My dog switched INSTANTLY. And actually because he was always having gross stools they firmed up and the diahreaa went away in just a week. He hasn't had an ear infection since we switched. And only one skin infection following me feeding him a smoked bone from the pet store (never doing that again, raw bones only). He only took work to get him to eat whole prey. I had to chop it up and dust it.with freeze dried raw food for himto eat it. Was so worth it!

My cat when I adopted her, she had terrible diarrhea snd vomiting snd flatulence. I knew I would never make dry food her main feeding time food, but only occasional treats. But since she was having such digestive issues I right away transitioned her to raw. Started half canned snd half commercial raw. Then half commercial raw snd half homemade. She has no flatulence or diarrhea snd rarely vomits. She was 4 when I got her. The vet can’t believe how much she has improved. Her coat is so soft and she is such a happy and energetic kitty. It’s been over a year. I’ll never go back.

I have just recently converted my 7.5 year old dog to full raw after feeding nutritional toppers on his “high quality” kibble for nearly a year. I’m already seeing improvements in his digestion and dental health. Thank you for all of these wonderful, informative videos!

Agree it's never too late. On a side note, I made a huge score at the Asian market and got a couple packs of chicken testicles. The fur babies love them!

Such a great video❤️ Thank you for sharing my babies transition story!! I always like to tell everyone how it’s really not as intimidating as it seems to transition older pets :)

a friend's dog switched to raw diet really late in life! she switched at 12 and is now 16. the dog's still pretty healthy, all things considered. my friend prepares everything on her own, though she does admit that she can try to introduce more variety to the diet.

In my experience the benefits of a raw diet are most noticeable in an older dog that makes the transition. I switched my beagle mix over to raw at 9yrs old. My pittie switched to raw at 6yrs old. Both dogs transitioned relatively easily and while yes, I've noticed improved coat quality in both dogs, the biggest benefits have been seen in my older dog; increased energy, no longer struggling to maintain a trim weight, less irritality (I used to call him my grumpy ol' man), and the horrible room-clearing flatulence that he's had for as long as I've owned him has disappeared. Edited to fix typo/ missing word in sentence.

I switched my 12 year old Aussie dog to balanced raw food (thanks Mariah!) Within months, I could see huge improvements in her fur, skin, digestion, ears, smell, shedding, itching, and overall vitality. She also LOVES to eat, which she never did with kibble. It's never too late!

I needed this video. I started educating myself on raw feeding just a few days ago. Your channel is a lifesaver! I became keen on learning new things about this diet and planning for my future pets. But why wait with a diet change for a new pet? I thought it's too late for my 7 years old cavalier to switch to raw.. This video proved me otherwise! Thank you so much for everything you are doing ♥️

I transitioned my 8 year old Jack Russell X Chihuahua to a raw diet not long ago. She became interested in the raw meals with barely no problem at all. She's now on a part raw part biscuit diet since the raw meals never seemed to fill her up. She's much more excited for meal times and rarely turns down a meal like she used to with wet food. I've noticed she seems generally happier and her stools are better. She loves her raw food and I'm glad I decided to make the change.

We have 2 dogs. One is raw fed and the other is 50% raw. Both on pre made mixes. We just don't have the time to DIY it. The one that's on 100% raw was started on raw at 4 months old. She's 9 months now and had no problems with the transition. Our other dog who is 10 now (he was almost 10 when we tried this) was on a 50-50 diet for about a year before we tried to switch him to 100%. It did not go well for him. 2 days into 100% raw he ended up very sick with HGE. He also is a very allergic boy and has a very sensitive stomach. We went back to 50-50 and he's been doing just fine since. Our pup does amazing on raw and she get sooooo excited to eat her ears start to quiver when I'm getting her food ready.

my oldest dog is 14 (the others are 6 and 5, and my cat is 13!) and we switched to raw maybe half a year ago or so--i initially thought it would be hard since he's always had trouble eating, seemed no to *like* it even no matter what brand of food i gave him, and still somehow used to be fat; now he does not only absolutely *love* it, he looks forward to his meals and even asks for them, is the healthiest and fittest he has ever been, and doesn't have any digestive issues nor has had any stool problems since the switch. they're all doing better overall, but improvements were astounding! he's much more lively and healthy than he's ever been, even though he's old now and mostly blind

Thank you for making these videos. So many can benefit from this. I also hope people would stop cropping (AND DOCKING) their dogs ears (AND TAILS) with the misconseption it help against ear infections etc. It makes me ill to watch people promote this practice and make videos of it on yt with thousands of followers. Baffles me! There is so much more to do, to change from the old ways. Hopefully we get there with baby steps. #stopcroppinganddocking

Hello, can you make a video of whether it's true or not that a dog's poo or saliva contains more bacteria when fed raw versus kibble? Cause I have heard many vets saying that dogs who are fed raw have more bacteria in their saliva and feces than dogs who are fed kibble.
@sikandersahota7118
@sikandersahota7118 2 года назад
That’s not true kibble has the same amount of bacteria and salmonella as raw, a quick google search can tell you that information, if it’s high quality kibble it’s usually not cooked

all of us raw heads literally going "oh, ronny, yeah. and I'd know that pretty blue lad anywhere". we're probably about to swap over again because my 10 year old spay bitch retired herder has some questionable breath and I'm not happy with the acana/canidae blend I'm currently serving. but whew, finding meat right now is a blast. the supply chain issues are the only thing keeping me away atm.

how do I make my senior dog eat the raw bones for dental health? he refuse it so many times, and only licking them.. Cannot do the scaling because they need to put dog into sedative. And sometimes, event tho my senior dog already a year on raw diet, he had some episode that he refuse to eat it :(. How to incorporate picky senior dog to eat the meals?
@kristinae.7084
@kristinae.7084 Год назад
What kind of bones are you feeding? They might be too big or thick for the dog's senior teeth. Try small bones like chicken/duck necks and wings.

I have a question my cousins dog has eaten kibble his entire life and he’s a senior with rotten teeth could I give him a pound of premixed raw food that’s a butchers blends of beef & tripe, with a mix of salmon, beef tripe and organs, and low-glycemic seasonal vegetables (15%), or would that be bad?
@kristinae.7084
@kristinae.7084 Год назад
That sounds like a really good idea to me. Probably also good to have a vet do a full dental cleaning and remove any rotten teeth as they can cause systemic health problems.

Allegorical Evidence: Forty years of raw feeding and unprecedented longevity. My 16 yo big dog is still going strong despite having survived a ruptured disc, bloat, and cancer. How? Raw Diet & Excellent Supplementation I had a large breed dog with a genetic disease (Addison’s) that lived to 15 (twice as long as expected) one Addisonian episode a year and half the amount of the standard protocol of steroids (extended and large doses of steroids is otherwise deleterious to health) How? Raw Diet & Excellent Supplementation. Need I Say More? Just. Do. It.

how do we know these diets are properly formulated? Is there someone with a PhD in canine nutrition thats formulated these diets?
@skinsciencebymira
@skinsciencebymira 2 года назад
Well is your own diet formulated by someone with a PhD? Premade raw food is a great option if you don’t want to do all the research, tracking, sourcing, and prepping that comes with feeding DIY raw. I feed DIY and track the nutrients in my dog’s meals to ensure he’s meeting all requirements per NRC guidelines

There are 3 ways! -There are board certified veterinary nutritionists you can find here: acvn.org/ -There are a few people who specialize in formulating raw and cooked diets that have their certification in canine/feline nutrition such as perfectly rawsome, raw pets rule, and myself shortly (not board certified, but still have gone through one or multiple nutrition courses) -Or you can also learn yourself! I have videos that teach you how in this playlist: ru-vid.com/group/PLwjMQnsLpzWIDYd1Db9bHciO3BA99W9gj
