In the third round that was in Tampere, that photosphere is old. There is now the Nokia Arena on top of the railway tracks south of the bridge.

First round: The sign is for Tampella. Tampella is a former industrial quarter that has currently the museum centre Vapriikki (recommended!) and it's overall a pleasant surroundings. Fourth round: The colour of the water tells you are in Southwestern Finland. Tammerkoski in Tampere is much clearer. The flowers seem to be canna lilies. People from a certain place are called with a word that always ends in "-lainen" or "-läinen" (in standard Finnish, there are differences in local speech). Someone from Turku is "turkulainen" and someone from Tampere is "turkulainen", and someone from Ii for that matter is "iiläinen".

I live in Turku but I like both cities. They are good in their own different ways. Both are worth visiting.

Tampere here. Indeed it is like new capital of Finland ;). Turku is actually old capital of Finland. Third round and last minute thinking. There is Finlands number 1 Arena called Nokia a Arena on top of those train tracks. Thats why there are many places on top of the tracks and it seems quite strange.

Just so you know tampere has had the best hockey team in Finland for a decade :D they have won 4 championships since 2016, 2 years in a row now, lets hope for a third straight. They have also been to the finals 8 times since 2013.

Tampere is a geographically and historically significant Finnish city in many ways. For example, during the Finnish Civil War of 1918, when the Whites led by General Mannerheim conquered Tampere controlled by the Reds (see more about the Battle of Tampere), it largely meant that the war had finally turned in the Whites' favor. Tampere has also always been a working-class city, which explains a lot about its industrial history (Finlayson, Nokia, etc.).

Tampere resident: Tamperelainen Turku resident: Turkulainen Same goes for almost all other places too, but some times rarely the end is - läinen, instead of - lainen, for example: Helsinkiläinen You, sir are: Amerikkalainen; An American. Or you could also be called: Ulkomaalainen; A foreigner.

Good map for no move games! One of my gaming friends has made a similar one but it contains Helsinki downtown too, so it's about 33/33/33. In the first game I recognized all locations and got 5k except the place on round 2. There I got the city right, but really couldn't figure out the exact location. Last time when I was in Tampere, I spent a night in that hotel which was on the first round. In the second game the first round was quite impossible to 5k for others but locals and same with round 4. The others I recognized or found. Round 1 was very near to the same location in some of your games maybe last week. The oldest Hesburger was almost visible behind the bus. In the downtown areas of Turku and Tampere are distinguishable just with the compass because of their city plans.

Round 4 of second game looks impossible so I can totally understand not pursuing it but in hindsight, we are on a Northwest facing street, looking towards a seemingly green area with no buildings and the street turns 90ish degrees to the right. That description seems to fit a maximum of four streets in the centre of Turku and a couple of those are a stretch. I think it's gettable in a reasonable amount of time. Whereas on round 3, even after finding the church and the street, it was very difficult to judge how far from the church we were. At least for me.

You shouldn't really use GeoGuessr built-in map maker. This game was not a good one, unfortunately with all of the rounds being 2009 imagery. 😐It's basically a different world (2009) when compared to present. That third round place is complitely different now with Nokia Arena built on top of the train tracks with a lot of highrises. I think its a bug with Finland and GeoGuessr that it only picks 2009 images and doesn't prefer newer imagery which sucks.

Made a stupid mistake on the second round in the first game. Thought the sign was only in Finnish and automatically discarded Turku. Couldn't find a spot that would correspond in Tampere, but still kept my guess there. Rest of the rounds were a lot easier tho, and got 5k in all of them. Round 20k points, but that mistake was annoying. Second game was a bit tougher, but I got the city right in all 5 rounds at least. First round was a bad guess, I thought it was way further in the suburbs. Then corrected that with 2 perfect scores and another round that was on the correct road, but just one block over. 22.4k total score. @9:57 Halonen is a Finnish clothing department store (also a somewhat common surname, like Tarja Halonen, our president from 2000-2012). @11:19 In Finnish you create a demonym from a location name by adding the suffix "-lainen" or "-läinen", which of them you use depends on the vowels used in the place name, as Finnish language has vowel harmony. So demonym for Turku is turkulainen, and for Tampere is tamperelainen, but for Helsinki it is helsinkiläinen and for Jyväskylä, jyväskyläläinen. The suffix might also induce some changes in the base, for example Lahti -> lahtelainen, instead of lahtilainen, but those are less common at least in demonyms that originate from native Finnish locations. @11:58 The Baltic Sea is way less saline than ocean water (less than third in the south and down to about tenth in the north) due to the narrow Danish straits that don't allow much mixing and its origins as fresh water Baltic Ice Lake after the last ice age. Wood was also cheap building material, since we have lot of it.
