Historically, whenever physicists probe smaller and smaller scales, we always discover more structures. But will this process ever come to an end? Could it be possible that the process of discovery is endless, like the metaphorical "turtles all the way down"?
If this happens, fundamental physics would take on a fractal-like structure. Surprisingly, even though quantum gravity seems to put a definitive end to the possibility of endless zooming in, it may, in the end, contain fractal-like patterns from a different perspective. If the Universe is indeed fundamentally described by a fractal-like structure, it could truly be "turtles all the way down.
