Definitely restore it, get it valued and keep it for your pension. It’s all cosmetic work really. Engine in great shape and it sounds superb and the car has an interesting history. Put a great roof on it and you’ve potentially got a really valuable and unique LHD Ferrari that if you wanted or had to sell would have global interest.

I don’t think it works like that. I have a Testarossa worth about $150k. No way chopping the roof off adds $850,000 of value, or anything like it. I’d be reaching for the Sawzall now if I thought otherwise. My guess: you’ll spend $100,000 doing the work and it’ll be worth $125,000 when you’re done. It could be done for less, but not without cutting corners (e.g. using incorrect leather, body filler, etc.)

To see this transformed into a concourse testarossa would be epic. I'm all for the nostalgia value for the channel, but a million quid is a million quid. Could fund the F40 too.

Great to see you giving a walk around the rat Scott - LOVED this. I think in terms of cost it would depend largely on how much you do yourself as you certainly have the skills for the majority of the work, based on what you’ve done previously. Certainly plenty of content there for future videos and I think everyone agrees they would love to see this unfold over coming weeks and months! But before you decide - why not have a quiet word with Sothebys and other major auction houses whose specialists would be able to give you a pretty good indication of the market appetite for such a resto, and the likely realisable value? A great deal of value at auction is based upon provenance and ownership - and although as the owner you may not be the Sultan of Brunei, you are a pretty famous dude to have on the log book!

You know, if you cleaned up your car that would be epic! There's so much potential that car could be for you . But so many projects you're lucky to come by, that BBi is the best of them all.. Waiting to see what you do with that! Then that F40! You gotta make that a reality. I love your thoughts about that. But thinking of cleaning up the Ratarossa, that's a lot of content that would keep you busy for some years coming!!

i was adding up estimates and got to 70k before you suggested 100k. I would go for it as the Ratarossa now has served its purpose to propel your channel to decent subscriber count and would be a fantastic restoration series and drag even more RU-vid revenue and subscribers. having an asset worth north of 400k might help finance future projects too.

Love it as is, so care free, but a restoration and making it look new again would make amazing videos. Would think under 100k as well, to give you a 500k+ gem of a car.

I’d say about $100-$125k for a proper rebuild. Would be an amazing project! Go for it 👍🏽

The most substantially built and most beautiful Spider conversion was done by Lorenz & Rankel. They had to spend tons of money to obtain the TÜV approval. (For example proving torsional rigidity on a hydropulse.) Koenig Specials also relied on Lorenz & Rankel. (The one finished in blu sera that went to the US is quite famous.)

I am 6:18 into the video and decided to pause it for a moment. You picked up a Testarossa for only 16k and it drives? WOW! ..if it was me, i'd send it to high end painter. Send it for a high end valet. Swap the tyres for 4x brand new types and have the car receive a Ferrari service. Then see what it fetches on Auto Trader :D ..and for the record, massive Out Run fan here. I used to play it in the Arcades all the time, the stand up version, the sit in version, and i managed to complete 3 different routes! ..later i went on to enjoy Out Run 2 (great game) ..for some reason, the original 1986 Arcade game by Sega rocks the most! ..and the best home version is on the Sega Saturn, which i happen to own ^_^ ..back to the video..

As a ex panel beater I would put it this way Full respray and body restoration £15kup to £20k Interior I would say best part of £15k Full body clean most likely 30 hours £6k Additional parts £15k New removable roof £5k Could get the engine rebuild £10k depending on condition New exhaust £5k Max £85000 for a show room example Plus the original price so 100k all in and if u get £950k that's £850k profit

I think it would be a very good idea, especially if you could generate those sorts of funds from the sale. You turn a massive profit and then have cash for whatever (F40) other projects you wish to pursue 🙂

Home Built by Jeff has been on his Alfarrari for two years and only just painted it.. and his channel is growing. I'd watch you build the Ratossa over a couple of years. Make it perfect, love it and rake it places. I'd watch.

Definitely a super cool car. Born in 76 means they were a dream car in the 80’s, I used to prefer the Countach but I’m not so sure these days.

Way cheaper than what Freddie spent on his Maclaren. Most parts you've got, hours of fettling, but not real cost; his interior was 16k, and the paint 30k; so add 30k for a deluxe metal roof, and you're done for under £100k spend, I'd guess.

I think this would be a fantastic project to take on. Also, your subscriber number would go through the roof as I'm confident many will follow the progress with great interest. Go for it!!! 👍

There was a black one ,,in a car auction 2003 ,,it went for £25,000 ,I thought at the time what a buy ,,I think they are now worth over £250,000,,better than money in the bank 😄

The rat has served its principle of never being able to be a factory original Ferrari, though maybe it’s now time to push through this barrier and make it serve a new principle - a testament to the skills you’ve developed as part of its journey to being close to an original as possible as you undertake a restoration? As for costs, I think you’re estimate is not wildly out, a lot of it can be done yourself and it doesn’t seem like there are any major components missing. Go for it!

If it was my car with your skills etc 1- fit a folding soft top so that you can enjoy it all year round within reason 2- tidy up the engine bay so that you can actually fill up the car from the filler cap 3- sort out the minor issues in the interior I would leave the bodywork alone as much as you can as you have a unique Testarossa. If someone wants a tidy convertible testarossa they can buy one those 1 million pound ones or buy a coupe and get the work done themselves

So will the lord with a million dollar car be buying a decent camera and external microphones for much better quality videos hahaha sorry I just had to. It's got to be worth doing even if it didn't reach them prices.

Scott you have to do this project. Would be fabulous for the channel and everyone would be glued to it. I think your talent could knock this out for £50-100k easy, sell it and probably retire on the prophet lol, Would be great though to watch this restoration, I think it deserves it 👌

Absolute no-brainer - get it done. The car now has a wicked backstory that, once you've restored it, could add value in itself - as long as its done really,. really well. Aside from the roof considerations it all just superficial stuff, its mechanically sound and the engine sounds sweet. If you're doing it to achieve the highest price you'll need to invest more time & money, but it'll surely have a great ROI (if you ever sold it!).

Think this should be the next step project to the F40. However, get that BB finished 1st. Cost, I'd say all done for £150k, Engineering a roof will be the costly bit.

Such an iconic car and in spider form so rare, you have to restore it. As it looks quite tidy with a solid low milage engine, it's a no brainer.

I vote for keeping it as a rat, this car has become the defining trademark of the channel. I also love the fact that this car flies in the face of traditional Ferrari ownership. Instead of some concourse princess that's kept in a climatized garage to be trailered to the odd show, this is a usable car. At least in fair weather. But if the decision is to restore it, I'll definitely tune in to watch! I'm happy whatever you do.

Wow, I must be in the minority, but I’d rather see it stay as it is aside from making it mechanically perfect. BUT,if it could be worth nearly that much, I’d understand you wanting to do it. It would also be fun. But, this thing is so cool and now iconic!

I personally have no idea how much it will cost to fix but in order for you to compere your car to those that you show u need to pay top £s for everything but even if you go over your estimate by double so 200 grand if you sell for 600 u still making a pile of money in profit.

Well I would say, have to have a hardtop along with a soft top... the hardtop to look like coup Testarossa, and a small soft top that can hide under the existing panel (moded fiat barchatta soft top it may work but there are plenty of options) no hydraulics needed, do not complicate things more than you should, it won't sell more if it has a hydraulic or a manual soft top. maybe electric panel opening for the soft top and that will do just fine. Cant wait to watch this series, regardless what you do to it.

I was looking at this car on that website for ages working out how I could purchase it and bring it back to Australia. I’m shattered I didn’t have the funds at the the time to do it.

I would also throw my vote behind this being the next project. I think with $150K put into it you could have a real nice $500K car. It's has served it's purpose as the Rat and now it needs to be reborn.

I was really waiting for this video, since in one of your previous videos I commented that I would like to see this Testarossa reborn. Thank you for considering making it wonderful. From what I have seen, there is nothing an excellent coachbuilder cannot do. Think about it, please, don't leave her like this, she doesn't deserve it.

I reckon £120,000 if it has a properly sorted roof which folds neatly to retain the lines, it it's done more cheaply it'll look bulky when stowed away. Personally if I had the money I'd do it! If it was mint it'd probably sell for £300.000 or more? Either way you stand to make a big profit if it's done authentically, the internals are all there!

I think it would look 100X better with a 5-10K paint job. And later, have a removable roof made for it with matching paint. I'm thinking black or yellow, not red. Forget the convertible roof, it's a rabbit hole project you don't need.

This car is also RU-vid famous. You might be surprised how many people will want it after seeing it restored.

If you spent 200k & sold it for 800k it's a win. Your channel would definitely grow.

I have an idea, hear me out. How about making the Ratarossa into the Restorossa? A modern take on the original design using bigger wheels, More modern interior including digital dash etc and a new and unusual colour (something from the current Ferrari range to keep it OEM+) It is such a unique car right now, it would be nice if in its next evolution, it's still one of a kind!

Do it, it would be a fantastic project. Would love to see this car fully restored, also it's a financial no brainer even if it's worth only £800,000 when it's done!

Can’t think of a better project especially considering you spent $16k on it to start. Budget $100k +\- a little if it makes sense to bring it to concourse (ish) spec then decide if you need to sell it. Some paint and body, some capristo then decide if you want a million $ or if you want to HAVE a car you can drive worth the same. It’s a great problem to have, please continue kicking ass🤘🏼🤘🏼

The story of this car would make it worth some £££ … I would think even a really good body shop could have that in great shape and paint for probably 25-30k£ fabricating the roof which ever route you decide would be a good chunk of change but including any missing pieces and an interior revamp you should see this “restored” for 60k£ I would guesstimate 🙌🤷‍♂️

It's a lot of work, but it has very good bones. Most of the rare Ferrari only parts are already there and serviceable. My estimate was right around what you thought, but in dollars , give or take $25k. Plus, you have connections in the Ferrari world and know where to get things done and by whom, which is a huge asset in this sort of endeavor.

Restoring this car, bringing up to scratch and making it a real world Outrun TR is how you'll fund the F40 you want.

Finish the BB, then do the Ratarossa. I would go for £200-250,000 to sort to immaculate. The worth c£500-600. That's a good chunk of change

Don’t change it. It’s the Ratarossa. It’s exceeded its expectations and likely will command more value as the character it is than another fixed up car put on the block. There will be a time maybe to do it, but not yet. There’s more Rata stories to be had before it has to ‘grow up’.

I think, even without a roof, it would be worth a lot. If someone is paying 1 million for a car, they don't care and won't drive it in the rain anyway. Being a gated manual and a RHD it makes it more likeable in the USA and People love to spend money in the USA. Also great video and keep it up!

I'd go somewhere in the middle. Strip the car and get someone with some knowledge of chassis stiffness to properly beef it up, refresh all the suspension etc, minor tidy up in the engine bay and retrim the interior all back . I'd leave the bodywork as is, apart from any needed repairs to stop any corrosion etc. Don't bother with a roof and simply retain the useability/enjoyment of it from it being a rat.

Really high end bodywork - £30-£50k Retrim - £10-£15k max Copy the roof from another conversion and fix the fuel pipe etc. easy done for under £100k all in

I reckon it would cost 50K+ just to get the right fabrication and quality of roof. Although i'd go for an old school 2 man clip in hard top like you get on an old SL, forget the fabric pull over. Keep the lines natural for when its off. So all in all my guesstimate for the lot would be 120-150K for a proper job. I'd then assume you could sell it for 400-500K. DO IT!!!

The Outrun Music is legendary, and yes...i completed the whole game many a time, I also completed Ridge Racer.

In the early 90s I worked for a prestige car company .On one job I dropped a 944 off at a dealers just outside Manchester I was just walking out of the showroom after dropping the keys off when one of the salesmen called me back and asked me if i could drop a Testerrosa off at the valetors a few miles down the road and pick a car up to bring back my ears pricked up and before I could say anything there was a guy walking past who just happened to be the caretaker aka odd jobs person who butted in to the conversation "I'm just going around the corner from the valetors I'll give you a lift" that was that I spent the next 20 minutes in his smelly little van with a guy who thought he'd done me a favour.

If you ever fix the body work, which would be really nice, you would have to keep the Grey with Red highlights as the colour. Roof - Don't need one & not worth the money, time & effort. Car for sunny days only is not a big problem. Touch up the interior. I reckon that for less than 50k GBP you could have a v.v. nice car. Worth a Million is another question but heh, yours is one of a kind so never say never.

The first car magazine I bought had a metallic royal blue Testarossa Spider with cream leather interior souped up by Koenigsegg not Barabus as it's feature. I could not look away. It was truly a thing of beauty.

I remember many year's ago,there was a RHD black 512TR spider on Hong Kong *U can Google it and there are few photo about that black TR spider ,some say that car from Brunei's Collection...
