Hey, Physical Therapist Assistant here 👋🏼 Nice video. I’ve been a PTA for 3 years in Texas. Currently work in a skilled nursing facility and absolutely love my career. PTA’s have so many options for work in different settings, I see joint replacements, amputees, spinal cord injuries, strokes, general muscular weakness, and countless neuro conditions! My work like balance is amazing in a SNF as we don’t have a set schedule and can come in at anytime we want. My day is typically 6:45 am to 2:30pm and I’m able to connect with family, workout, run errands, and invest my time in other ventures! My salary currently is 80k a year and in Texas that’s more than enough to live comfortably without having to look for a side hustle, however the work like balance allows me to be able to work if I really needed to after my shift! Hopefully this helps anyone needing info.

Now I am almost less than a year away from getting my bachelor's degree in Health Sciences. Is there a way that I can get into a program still or does that fulfill the requirements of becoming a PTA already through those 4 years
Yo! Ok bro it depends on your long term goal. If you want to become a Physical Therapist (PT) don’t waste your time on becoming a PTA go straight for PT you will get paid more and be more in charge. Hope this helped bro 🙏🏽
The issue with being a pta is no room for carrer advancment pta is a whole different thing than pt it would take about as much as you started from scratch 7 years to be a doctor of phyiscal thearpy and nurses make about as much as pt and have way less debt the amount of time it would take you to go from pta to pt is the same amount or so it would take to go from pta to nurse pratcioner and at least if you dont make to np as a nurse you will still make about as much as a pt

If you have a family then being home everyday at 5pm & spending time with your family is what money could never buy. PTA here in Cali. They are not phasing us out. Do you know how many of us there are? They will not make all of us jobless, not very good for the jobs statistics and there are not enough PT’s to cover what we do. Talks of phasing out has been ongoing and going nowhere. You’ll be fine.

I was thinking about becoming one but my only problem is it seems super unnecessary to have to go to a college for 2 years for something like pta. I feel like a career like this could be treated like a trade where you could go to some type of tech school and get hands on learning as well as classroom textbook learning as well. Like a 4-5 day intense learning experience every week for x amount of months. Get right to the point, get right in there. Seems like there are lots of professions out there where there’s a lot of “beating around the bush”. Seems like a money grab thing but hey who am I to say, cheers!!

Some classes are kinda unnecessary but to be honest this program is only 2 years and you have the potential to make over $150K a year for only a 2 year program. So in all honesty it’s definitely worth it. It’s not easy but you got this! Think about it in 5 years you will either be a rad tech making 🏦 💰 or still in your current situation. That’s exactly how I felt before I decided to start PTA school. I’m 25 and I just got fired from my retail job and I thought to myself, I could go find another retail job and start earning money again but probably still be in that situation when I’m 30 or I could do my future self a favor and go to school for 2 years and get myself a more respectable job and not end up in the same situation later down the line
@@timroberts8616I googled nearby medical colleges that have the program and I called ones I liked and I spoke with each of their admission representatives and they told me about all the information about the program and any prerequisites before entering the program like mandatory volunteer hours. And then I picked one of the colleges that did not require volunteer hours. I did take classes in a community college before this program, so during the first term I don’t have to take English, math, and psychology (because I took each of those classes in CC). So I was lucky, because other students I’m in the program with have to take those 3 classes as well as anatomy/physiology and medical terminology.
That “beating around the bush” may save your patient’s life one day. This job looks easy until it’s not. Imagine you have a patient after surgery with other health issues and complicated diagnosis. How are you going to approach a patient like this if you don’t have a knowledge about diseases he has, about medication he takes, about procedure that was performed on him, about body anatomy to understand why certain precautions are used. No way you can work with patient like this if you only had hands on type of education.

Hey man first of just wanna say thank u for the info, I’m a 20 year old college dropout didn’t know what to do with my future, recently found out about PTA and I felt like it ticked a lot of boxes that I was looking for, (work/life balance, helping people in need, educating people, and compared to other medical jobs a pretty fair work load and manageable stress) the only thing I’m honestly worried about is the career progression of being a PTA, I don’t mind some of the cons of becoming a PTA however I really do want to build off of the investment I’m putting in for graduating as a PTA without the DPT route especially if I intend on graduating at around 23-24 God willing (still need to go back and finish up with school) Any advice? Honesty is appreciated too I don’t mind a dose of reality lol and once again thanks

You said it GREAT work/life balance and good pay. You can always go back for a full PT once you’re in the field. The beauty of PTA is that it’s only a 2 year program. It gives you the opportunity to know what PT does on the daily & gives you the insight opportunity to see if you want to further your career into PT all while making good money. It’s never too late to start and you dropping out of college is not a failure it’s honestly experience in life that we must go through in order to realize our goals! I say GO FOR IT! You got THIS‼️

Thanks so much for this video. My husband used to be a cable tech and go injured on the job. After 3 surgeries (an a need to change careers) he is thinking becoming a PTA. He said throughout all of his medical care the PTs and PTAs were the best - very kind and supportive, no matter what therapy center he went to. I love that you mentioned that this is a great job for work/life balance. Since this is a later in life career change (he's 50), advancement isn't a priority for him so I think this might be a good fit. I'm going to check out your radiology tech videos as well. That might be better for him is he ends up with a reduced range of motion after this is all done.

I honestly wouldn’t recommend radiology for him because we a lot of heavy lifting in the hospital 🏥 environment but if he choose X-ray and works in an imaging center than it’s more possible but to be honest if I had the choice to re-choose my career I would have chose PTA. I’m 42 and considering this route myself. Was a personal trainer for about 7 months back in 2019, and failed at that because I couldn’t sell enough. I figure with PTA the selling skill isn’t really necessary; hope not anyway. lol. Been doing misc blue collar type work(warehouse, construction, delivery driving, mechanic) for over 20 years, and been unfulfilled a lot of the time.

Hey brother, great video thank you for the content. I actually did the opposite, i started as a personal trainer. Worked 6 years at box gyms. I put that career on hold to go back to school. Starting a 2 year PTA program next month. I was wondering, i know you mentioned PTA salary around 40-60k. I'm curious where you got that information or what state PTAs make that much? I live in San Diego, so from the information I gathered PTAs here make an average of 60-80k, some even as high as 6 figures depending how long theyve been in it. Which after 40 hrs a week = to $67K per year. You can make more if you do HomeHealth too. California pays more because cost of living either way PTAs have great work/life balance.
