Is it worth it? An Expeditions: Viking Review 

This game is fantastic. I could not recommend this game more as it scratches all the little itches I want for story, combat, and character building. I cannot get over how much I enjoy this so do yourself a favor and get this...right now. Drop what you are doing and get this game.

Only bug that i encountered has to do with trying to loot something far away on your map, if you run into a fight situation the game ques the fight to soon and ultimately freezes you in place until you restart. I have only encountered this twice and i have had no other performance issues or bugs. Truely an excellent game that takes me back to IceWind Dale/Neverwinter Nights style of gameplay. The Story is amazing, all in all worth the price.

I actually saw this on steam but dismissed it based on the assumptions you listed at the beginning of the video, this'll teach me I guess. Looks really cool.

Based on your reactions I'm assuming you never played Expeditions: Conquistador? Character creation in this is a huge upgrade considering in that you didn't even have a character, your "character" was more like the commander in XCOM: Enemy Unknown where while they are there you never see them and they can't fight.

It's a very good game if you like reading and choosing branching paths. It lacks some info on some of the skill choices. Also the game defaults to the hardest setting, so you may want to make sure you change that at start unless you're looking to get wailed on while learning the ropes.

it is a great short game. i replayed it 4 times. got 2 more play throughs to go to test diffrent endings. game does not hold your hand. is not easy. ... finally a game for people that have gone through puberty.

Also....why did the Norwegian navy put bar codes on their ships? So when they get back to port, they can Scandinavian! ^_^

if you like this type of games, you should play Jagged: Alliance 2. Once you understand the game mechanics you'll have so many hours of fun and adventure! It's amazing for it's age

Just finished this game. Pros: historical, party based, dialogue. Cons: short, combat is basic, doesn't feel as open as conquistador, travel isn't meaningful, camping is fun at first but basic after a couple of times. Overall it's a 6 out of 10 where as Conquistador was an 8.

I just bought this for less than $2. Excited to try it.

I know you did a video on hollow knight, but i feel like the game could use more coverage, since you are literally the only youtuber i've seen cover it. It's a strong goty contender for me.

Restarted 3 times but my saves just corrupt and they crash on load. So dissapointed.

I played that game. Twice. I have 80h+ on it and I'm waiting a bit before launching a third playthrough. Yes it is fucking amazing. I love it a lot. The only downside I can think of is that sometimes the fights are really hard and toward the end of the game, it get a bit boring while you wait for stuff to finish to building.

try out Lisa the Joyful by Austin Jorgenstien. (Dingaling) Its a great game that touches on some depressing notes and many don't even know about it due to it being shadowed by Undertale.

Is it worth it? Hell yes! I had a BLAST with this one! Also... more Viking based games must be done. I for one would like one in the style of The Witcher 3. Third person open world: dark, gritty, story driven, character driven and fully packed with choices and consequences. Exploration on foot, on horseback and on the famous viking longships! I'd like to create my own character: either a male warrior who works his way up from a nobody to a HUSKARL or either a BERSERKER! Or.. a badass female SHIELDMAIDEN! As we know... the Viking Women were badass fighters in their own right. Also.. crafting should be a CRUCIAL ELEMENT in the Game and of course the typical Viking Politics, fighting among themselves, unification of the Viking Clans, going on raids, plundering the christian churches and monasteries, conquest, exploration etc. Day and night cycle, dynamic wheather system. Eating, drinking and sleeping should be important.. since the the Viking Lands were harsh and surviving in such a land should be crucial.

This is a very, very, basic overview of what the game has to offer. It's a little more than what you get off their steam page in fact.

this video doesnt really say much, but at a glance this seems like it could be a really authentic experience. i was a 'top 15 viking game' list and this wasnt on the list, but games that were 'vikings in theme only' that are just garbage were... that just proves to me once again that the internet knows nothing...

I like where this guy's head is at and I find myself relating to his mindset, but the review itself is too vague to be even remotely conclusive.

Funny how the game tells a story about some vikings coming to England from Denmark, but in the Intro we see their homeland, and it is full of high mountains - Norway in other words.

3:08 "Our clanMUST prevail!" They forgot to put a space in between those words. Also, for the cinematic subtitles, they should've put a slightly dark background opacity since I can barely see some of the dialog that would blend in with the bright colors.

Sorcery! complete edition and 80 Days are fantastic indie games and the best Choose your own adventure games ever made with tons and tons of choices , great art , world building and a phenomenal soundtrack. They are made by indie devs , Inkle Studios and both the games are highly underrated.

Thanks for posting the review. If you want to step your game up, it would be nice if you provided footage that was relevant to the features you were talking about. You described so much while showing game-play of one irrelevant battle. Support your statements visually!

I've always been a fan of Viking based Games. No matter if hack'n'slash, turn based RPGs or Action RPGs. I've played them all.. from Rune to Wolves of Midgard... but more Viking based games are needed... and no, I am NOT talking about "For Honor".

No. Beautiful game but ridiculously short.

It's literally crawling with bugs and is barely playable for most people, just check the steam reviews. I didn't notice it was set to "Insanity" difficulty and thought it was brutally hard, it's also got a long list of bugs so stay away until patched about fourty times!

Is your reviews´ opinion influenced by you receiving review copies from the producers? Also how can one review a game, playing it for one hour? Was this video just for fullfilling the deal you had with them?

Do not buy this game. It's just a beta. First half of game is playable, but second is not.

This game is horrible. It's too basic, boring, bad voice acting (would prefer to have it without it, rather than have bad one). It falls short on its potential. The consequences of your actions seem too light. I loved DA:O, was hoping something more down-to-earth, not my cup of tea.

i dont wanna sound like a typical troll, but u didnt review the game. i have no clue how the game is played. what sort of classes can u play, and what their moves are, what other aspects of the game are there other than fighting, can the camera be toggled to show a closer look, and many other questions . sorry, i had to unlike the video

Shitty boring game with terrible UI and crappy campaign map. Conquistador is older but much better and actually fun to play.

Imo the game falls apart when you get to Europe. If you want to know more, I'm copy pasting my Steam review. My initial review was positive - this was the only game I've waited for in the last 3-4 years and I thought that, with a few patches, it'd be the best cRPG of the year. After restarting the game 6 times due to bugs and completing a sizeable chunk of the game I have to say that, at least to me, it's this year's biggest disappointment. Round-up: numerous bugs even after 4 different patches, imbalanced and flawed combat system, a step back from Conquistador in terms of player choices. The ultimate problem is that you cannot play like an actual viking in this viking game. In-depth:There's a lot to say. First of all, I loved pretty much everything in Conquistador: their approach to racism and different playstyles resulting from the ideology you chose for your character (through choosing your companions, allocating skill points and choosing) was astounding to me. For example, I decided to test how the game would react to me playing a racist piece of shit who solved all problems with violence and an occasional dose of sweet, sweet coercion on top of empty promises. As a result... I was drowning in money and blood of my enemies - I killed everyone who opposed me as well as every Indian I could. The best part was that the game never judged me. For every enemy killed, I got their loot, and for every betrayal, I got the correct benefits, without the game telling me whether I was right or wrong. There was emptiness where I expected backlash to be, and in that emptiness I confronted my conscience: if I wasn't challenging the game, then I was just... doing very bad things because... why? Was I a bad person? Being able to experience that cognitive dissonance was amazing and I'm grateful for the experience. So why did I just spent half a page talking about the prequel to this game? Because this game judges you from the start. It judges that you're a fool who's unable to read between the lines or follow hints, instead needing everything to be explicitly said out loud. It provides backstory to even the smallest characters, but those characters don't ask you the right questions and you're not given the right choices. Know how some people started ignoring quests in Witcher 3 because they all ended badly? This is even worse, because you need to finish them in order to progress. Before illustrating my point through an example, let me give you a picture of who I role-played as: I played a viking leader - with strength almost rivalling Gunnar’s, good Endurance and exceptional Perception, I was an honourable brute who gladly resorted to violence, but was also a good leader and was skilled in diplomacy. Honour, my clansmen, and violence were the things I respected, carrying little for anything else. The example I’ll give comes from the first landing in Europe (I’m intentionally not using the prologue because I think it’s good for the most part). You land near a village. You need horses, so you go into the village and the first thing you do is… talk. Conveniently, Ketil understands the language to some degree. You can attack the villagers at this point, but my character is honourable, so we follow them to the chieftain. Conveniently, they also fetch a priest who understands my language. When I tell him I want geld, he says the village has nothing because it’s been raided by some highwayman and suggests that sorting out that problem will make villagers grateful and they may give us what we need. Somehow, the conversation ends up with me having the following choices: “Fine, we’ll show these villages that they have nothing to fear from us” and “The village is the weaker target.[Attack]” (the village isn’t the weaker target - there’s more of them and you get to kill 1 bandit before the fight even starts). A viking wouldn’t say either of those things. Let me try to remake that scene: Good morrow, stranger! What brings you here? Your features are alien to us and you carry weapons, it’s quite scary!Give geld or I give axe you your stomach.Um… the village is very poor… no geld here, but there are some raiders to the northeast, if you helped then-Raiders have geld?N-not sure, but the villagers-[You place your hand on the monk and easily pull him right in front of your face. He’s a lot shorter than you so his feet are dangling above the ground] We take from villagers and we take from raiders. Take weapons and raiders don’t fight. They resist, they die. No horses when we return and you all die. [You place him back on the same spot you picked him from and leave.] The problem is that pretty much all characters are cardboard cutouts, safe caricatures used so that nobody gets offended, and when it comes to choices… there just aren’t enough. Usually you can kill one group or the other and that’s it. It’s simplistic and uninteresting. Combat is also glitchy and just doesn’t work well. I played on Insane and nothing is balanced - there’s a quest where you can escort a group of refugees to the town and when you get to the bridge, 8 enemies spawn and get the first turn - you have a party of 5 who die in 2 hits. This, the uninspired abilities, and a complete lack of polish to the mechanics and even tooltips (if you want to see what a certain injury does, you have to be in combat, otherwise the game won’t easily tell you). It’s a complete disappointment because I see flaws in the design itself rather than just bugs. Changing the engine and the scope of the game really didn’t work out for them.

I know its kind of known but I think pillars of enternity deserves waaaaay more credit then they ever got. Like that game deserves and needs a 3rd sequal
