SOLO IS DEAD! Or is it? Is it worth playing EVE Online solo? It is an MMO afterall... Well in this video I share my take on the issue after more than 10 years as a capsuleer!
There’s a lot of ways to play EVE Online but the sheer amount of stuff there is to do in the game can be pretty overwhelming for a lot of new players because unlike a lot of other games, EVE doesn’t point you in any particular direction or tell you what to do once you complete the tutorial. It teaches you the basics and then releases you into this massive universe with seemingly endless possibilities, a mountain of things to learn and skills to train and basically no advice on where to even begin figuring it all out.
It can be a pretty brutal, but one of the most common questions I get on my other EVE Online videos is whether or not it’s even possible to play this game solo and actually succeed at it, and the simple answer is yes, although it might not seem so for the first couple of months. The fact is though that it’s completely playable solo, whether you want to be a casual miner or you’re interested in doing pve combat sites and missions, or become a hardcore pvper taking on entire fleets on your own, you can do it all and actually succeed at it as a solo player, with only a handful of rare exceptions.
Will you die? Yes, everybody dies in EVE whether you’re in a fleet or not, and if you’re not dying or at least getting into situations that routinely make you soil yourself then you’re not playing it right. It’ll be rough, it’ll be hair rasing and it’ll test your nerves to the limit from time to time, even when you’re doing something you think should be fairly safe, but it will also be one of the most rewarding and memorable experiences you can have in gaming. Period. And you’ll remember the most thrilling moments from your capsuleer career for the rest of your life.
But before we get more into all that, let me address the most obvious question probably on a lot of peoples minds right now. Why would you want to play an MMO solo when the very name Massively Multipler Online, suggests that the game was built to be played with other people, especially when everything allegedly becomes so much easier when you join a corp and do stuff together as a fleet instead, and as someone who prefers spending most of my gaming time doing my own thing, I feel like I can answer this one with a fair bit of insight… Quite frankly, people have a tendency to… How can I put this? … Well People Suck.
Now before you blow up into a G-Fuel enduced gamer rage in the comments, obviously I don’t mean everyone and not all the time, quote un-quote “people” can be pretty awesome when they want to be, but generally speaking I find things just go a lot smoother when I know what I’m doing and what I want to achieve, and there’s nobody else around getting involved with their opinions and ideas or showing up 30 minutes late to a pre-planned fleet op, or turning up on time and then starting to fit out their ship, eSPECIALLY when we’re talking about a bunch of random gamers who’ve never met trying to work together to achieve the impossible, where half of them are getting chewed out by their wives for not helping out more around the house, and the other half are watching Band of Brothers and doing their taxes on their second monitor.
Yeah I know you know what I’m talking about.
So to answer the question, I enjoy playing MMO’s solo because it’s just simpler. There’s no drama, there’s no personality clashes or feelings that can get hurt, and after 8 hours of work, sometimes I just want to come home and turn on a game and be around other people, without necessarily interacting with them and having to be ‘on’ all the time, and I expect there’s a lot of people out there who feel the same way, and that’s how I’ve spent most of my 10 years playing EVE.

I was an Earth & beyond refugee, and around October (?) 2004 I arrived with a 1 month free trial in EVE ... (or was it 3 month trial as a E&B former player ? ) It was mind-blowing ! Was then part of Stainless Alliance, through a small corp. (that I will keep hidden, lmao) Had only one account. Honest player, I am what you see. It was fun, Space exploration, SF adventure AND made a LOT of RL € ... But, about 2012 It became quite toxic, in my gameplay. It became a Gang economic hell, again in my gameplay, and lost trust in EVE. Sold all I had for some +/- 1000€ (did many bad deals just to get rid of it asap) Sooo... Your video gave me some vibes: downloading EVE right now ! If I get wrecked, I will find you and I will drown you in Orval Beer ! ORVAL ! Best Monastic Belgian Beer since 800 AD ! Orval : the absolute best BEER ! Orval, will teach you what you missed all this time : ORVAL ! ! ! Drink Orval and have a great time ! Soooo, Orval ?

Just wait imo, a lot of us are. I really don't thing its relaunch will be far off. Its population is so low its insane. I remember when dodixie would have 5k players and Jita would have 30k, now dodi has like 100 at peak and Jita is lucky to have 1.5-2k and most are bots. I have no doubt CCP will try a big relaunch within a year or two though. EVE online is down to 10-12k real players online at peak these days, its sad. You talk in alley chat in a big org like Goon or PH and often everyone is just AFK.

Being a introvert, MMORPG is my way of being social :) Been playing Eve for @ 10 years now, and turned 50+ years, I'm not geared mentally for pvp anymore, so I'm just "relaxing" scanning in lowsec and wormholes.

I feel this. In my 40's now, played off and on for a decade. I never learned to pvp at all... ever... but I have perfect scanning skills and explore in a blingy astero. The thrill of getting hunted is part of the fun. Despite the all red killboard, I have far more successful trips home than losses. When the inevitable deaths do come, I'm glad to be adding to the content of the universe.

Galante/Centre for Advanced Studies (CAS), is the best starter corp to join for a first time player; they are the only corp with an active community offering help and advice - including PVE and PVP fleets every week, with free ship replacements WHEN you die in these fleets. Most of the other starter corps have either a dead, or a toxic community, filled with either silence - or deliberately handing out bad info. The game has a LOT of solo content, even putting aside PVP; but there hasnt really been any NEW solo content added to the game for a long time; all the new PVE sites in recent years have been fleet oriented. AFAIK, not one of the sites added in the last year can be done solo, they all require at least 2 ships; if you want to solo them, you need to learn to multibox several accounts/ships; and that gets expensive as those accounts ALL have to be Omega. Even the solo content there is, a lot of it is just duplication with a different name and opposing faction - the escalations from Burrows, for example. Regarding the bonus SP; you can max out Alpha core skills and weapons for one faction, for Frigates and Destroyers; Omega (subscription) is optional, it is possible to play the game without paying money and still enjoy it, AND compete against Omega players once you have the skills. If you intend to stay F2P, it is best NOT to take the free 1 mill SP until you hit the 5 mil SP cap for F2P players, as otherwise it effectively COSTS you 1 mil SP; instant gratification v long term gain. Gaining SP after hitting the Alpha cap is either painfully slow or painfully expensive.

The only problem I have is subscription. $205 Canadian for a year and you can't pause it whenever you want for however long you want making it per per use offer. I've been playing since 2004 on and off because life, kids, etc. Also, there are other worthy games to try, but that constant pressure of subscription is killing it for me. I'll stop for a time, get thrown out of the loop and get into it solo because corps change, influences on map change etc. So I'm used to solo, but eve is a serious commitment that doesn't give you substantial breaks unless you pay per month basis (even more expense) Edit. I like mining and I found a pure gem of a game Rings of Saturn that is one time purchase

Ive been playing on and off, account been created for 1 year, didn’t play first six months during training. I jumped in solo, and quite enjoy it, I live on the boarder of low sec. My preferred activities are ratting low sec, abyss, faction warfare or mining. I have maybe 1 I month of in game play. I’ve accumulated billions in worth. Solo is definitely possible

@@Jake-um4gg abyss is the most steady, but gets tedious to just chain them for isk, but that got me to have isk to be able to build ship i like and then go farm low sec. even with about 500m(one ship cost 262m and 2 cost 65m and 85m, rest junk losses t1 dessies or cruisers) in total losses since the start, from lowsec. low sec id say is the most profitable. finding 1 clone trooper transport tag is worth 30m per tag. then you got bpc's from pirate faction like garmur thats worth 40-50m and orthrus and barghest that are worth like 125-150m each. then you got other junk like disrupters worth 4.6m each and heavy entanglers worth 1.2m each that sell easy. plus not counting all the other junk that drops, you can either reprocess and build ships or just sell the junk. if you make a gila and work on doing abyss t3 or higher, thats probably good income, but i only did it up to t1 cause im mostly frigates and destroyers. t2 not worth it. t3 needs gila. faction warefare, well i chose galmil when i did it, and that was most likely a bad choice to make isk with that. but from what experience i have, getting alot of ships to the frontline is the hastle, and fights are very short. break down. t0 abyss in 3 mins is about 40m isk per hour. t1 abyss in 7 mins is about 60m per hour. low sec, can have more losses than abyss, but if you get 3 clone troopers in your 15 minute visit of 2 low sec systems, that was 90m right there.

@@Jake-um4gg low sec ratting was the most income with most risk. but i only went to abyss t1, t2 not worth it, t3 needs gila. im mostly frigates and destroyers. abyss is the most steady flow of intake. t0 in 3 mins, about 30-40m/hr, t1 in 7 mins, about 40-60m/hour (not gonna reach a billion super fast, but youll be able to fluctuate easily between 0-100m and build pretty much any ship to do other activities in.) FW was an isk sync, being in gallente militia, bringing alot of ships to the frontline is a hassle, fights dont last long. if you plan around those 2 things, youll enjoy FW more than i do. mining is the lowest direct income, but over time with reprocessing low sec junk items, and finding random pirate bpc's its fun to be able to build your own ships for cheap. rather than mining for profit. unless you get into gas huffing, and the logistics behind that for profit. i use mining to consolidate small items into 1 bigger selling item, or item ill use. latest example. i found an orthrus bpc, a cruiser i cant fly yet, bpc is worth 100-130m to sell itself, i had accumulated a bunch of low sec junk and minerals over time, i built the orthrus forking out about 140m in mats i was missing, the ship is worth 400-450m, instead of having to haul a bunch of minerals or sell all components at a price i got to hunt seperately, i can just sell the ship directly.

I've been playing since 2007 and the majority of that time as a solo or nearly-solo player. This is a great play style - if it sounds like it might appeal to you, do it. Big fleet fights aren't the only way to play this game, and there's a lot of satisfaction in dodging danger for your own goals.

Great Video, Eve Online has lots of Playstyles from Solo, Small Group, and Large Massive Alliance Battles, So Why Not Experience All of Them? That's what I do 🙂. Eve Online provide you with 3 Characters per Account, so what I do is I have : My First Character joined one of the massive alliances in NullSec. I've got to experience a Well Established Infrastructure, Lots of Fleet Activity and a Great Leadership Team. as well as Large Scale Coalition PvP, SRP, In-Game Politics ??? , and Ti-Di 😅 My Second Character joined a small Corporation just starting up. I got to experience the growth of the corporation, meeting new members, Small but Compact and funny enough much more Fun Fleet Activities. In this kind of group, you feel more sense of belonging, you feel like your actions have much more impact than being in a Large Alliance. My Third Character is Solo and Sometimes Public Fleet ( like Spectre Fleet ) This is a character for me if I just want to relax, mine, and explore alone. Sure with this kind of Setup you can't get the most optimum Planetary Income Per Hour, or The Most Efficient BPO, BPC's, Industry Chain , (and your Skill Training and Skill Points are all Distributed) . But hey I enjoyed it so far, and I think that what mattered the most.

CCP just ruined the game in this manner. now im in albion online. But i really like to get back to eve just bcause its Sci-fi and thrilling experience for all players.

I miss Eve. I played this game for a dozen of years since 2005. But i got stuck in a midlife with a true dedication to the game (wormhole PVP, exploration, L4s, some mining, high tier PI) and real life issues on the other side. Eve sucks up a lot of time if you love this universe and want to do various meaningful projects in there. I miss Eve. Maybe i could get back to it as a weekend player? :) It will be always a game of my life, for sure.

New players should be looking for a corp 100% once you know how to move around the game then they should make the decision to solo, but as a new player, this game solo will break 99% of players. EDIT - I played this game 5 years ago for over 7 years and it took me 4 attempts to get into the game until I joined a corp, out of all MMO's out there this game is the one that you must join some kind of corp/alliance as a new starter, this should be your priority as a new player.

Subscribed after watching this, and having tried EVE a LONG time ago (like 2009-2010 iirc) it left a bad taste in my mouth but I suppose that was my own fault for not giving it a fair shake. I did enjoy the video as a lot of the sentiments you point out about playing as a solo actually translate to star citizen as well, the game I've been playing for almost 10 years now myself. I may have to give EVE a redemption shot one of these days. You can be in the biggest baddest ship in the verse in star citizen, but if someone can sit in your blind spot, you're just a future wreck for a salvager to pick apart. Out of curiosity have you ever tried star citizen?

Sure it's more difficult and I die a lot more often, but I genuinely enjoy how Eve doesn't force you to be beholden to any storyline, an NPC faction, or a group of players. It really is about you finding the tools to empower yourself however you see fit in the sandbox of the universe.

Good video, the definition of "solo" play in EVE is some thing that I get a little frustrated by. Solo piloting doesn't mean you aren't interacting with the universe around you. It doesn't even mean that you should be looking to avoid player corporations. I can certainly appreciate the reasons why you would want to pursue a "solo" play style but I feel calling it "solo" is not (imo) the best way to describe it, I prefer the term "lone wolf" play style. This may come across as a semantic argument but EVE is a game that has an almost infinite ways to play and approach the game and avoiding interaction with other players in EVE is arguably missing the point of the game. You certainly can play as "solo" and rely on your own skill, knowledge and a good slice of luck but having some social contact with the other players in the game even if its just another guy you talk to because he blew you up a few fights ago IS GOING to help you progress in EVE. In short, don't play EVE in a vacuum "play lone wolf" but interact with the other people you meet on your journey! Trust me the friends you make in EVE will be some of best people you will ever meet. Fly dangerous o7

If your trying to get into a mmo, Eve is not the best one, (though it’s the only one I play), you are gonna need some SERIOUS focus and be a good info sponge, try to find some help in the help channels, expect to lose from time to time, and when you do die, it’s fine to rage quit for a bit(, after you dock your pod of course).

Playing Solo in New Eden is perfectly valid as any amount of interacting with the game's mechanics provides benefit to other players. The focus on PVP is such a shame because the automatic and universal cooperation between players through the market and sandbox is what impresses me most.

@RedcoatViking I stopped to play Eve 10 years ago. I was never interested to explore or join 00 had for some time a little c2 wh corp. But Eve became from day to day more and more unplayable for solos and little corps cause CCP gives a shit about them. If you just want to chill and want to make some isk with mining in high sec in a little corp you will be soon or later blackmailed from ganking corps. In general if you try to do something in a little corp you'll be f*cked even in high sec cause the war blackmailing of other corps. For this reasons we moved to a little WH at the time we were pretty active. We weren't really afraid on PvP but a fight against corps you can't fight was impossible. But at this time there were also corps which specialise themself to do something like this in WHs even in the little ones. We lost interest before we got catched but it would have only been a matter of time. After that I tried the following years from time to time a little comeback but it was worse then ever to find a spot where you can just enjoy your bit of free time without beeing annoyed(still talking about high sec, cause that you are being harrassed in low, 00 or wh is to be expected) So mainly my question is: Has CCP done anything against this massive destroying of new players and corps through ganking and blackmailing in highsec?

You find bullies and DB's in every game EVE Online is light years ahead on these kind of people, well whatever, today I was killed and lost 3 M a meager price to make a bully happy, its not the killing not the ISK, just the waste of time getting your ship and modules together again.

I very like play solo. And I want to go to live deep down in null-sec space. But I doesn't like PvP. Hate to lose my ships. Have even rage quit for six years when I lost my first Orca. Hi-Sec after lot of nerfs is shithole, but still only opportunity to noob carebear and casual player like me. I pay monthly for two accounts (my and my son's). This cost nearly 10% of my salary (per month). Dead of one of my Astero, Vexor, Gila, Gnosis or Raven Navy is strictly speaking - painfull. I don't wanna imagine of pop of my Barghest (or another pirate faction battleship), new Orca or Providence. Gathering ISK in Hi-Sec doing PvE is hellish difficult. Rattlesnake with fit took me 3 months to complete. 3 months of Pilot Time means 25% of one month wages. But you, players who like pew, pew doesn't care about this. You just kill to get your's KillMail - 'becouse I can'. Gosh, I hate this phrase.

It's fairly easy to earn enough to pay for the sub in game, but it's not a game then it's another job, played on and off since 2005 it's changed so much as the original devs have gone, newer devs have a much different idea for the game.

To this day, EvE Online solo PvP is the only situation where I had a sharp adrenaline rush and fear as I hunted, scanned and dropped in on a real human target trying to kill them in a ship i had to earn the ISK to buy and fit. No other game like it out there.

You didnt really answer the question. You're addressing it from a new player's point of view. The game is dead as far as new players are concerned because they will never ever be able to catch up or carve out a place for themselves in EVE. Worse still the game is going pay to win with paid boosters and shit, in addition to being a subscription model. Overall, its quite simply not worth paying money for what is a dead end second job, and EVE has been that way for a long time.

I started again recently with a brand new character and I was far from alone, and almost all the newbros were engaging with veterans, joining corporations and generally having a good time. Maybe it's just not for you, and that's okay.
@rolandlee6898
@rolandlee6898 20 дней назад
@@RedcoatViking_Official You are not new. The newbros join for as long as the Alpha lasts, and many of these newbros are just alts of veterans. The game by design caters to veteran players and is thus not newbie friendly. A new player joining will NEVER EVER do any of the more interesting things. The space is carved up, everything that can be owned - already is. The best a new player can do is join some 3rd rate shit corp and shoot rocks. The logical question is - why? You dont even realize that everything a player is supposed to do in this game, especially a new one, is to mindlessly grind ISK. Its a job. Its repetitive and meaningless. There are no interesting overarching storylines or quests, you cant just go out an explore on your own,. The game is thematically extremely intriguing but mind-numbingly dull and poorly designed otherwise. It appears to have content but its actually just bloated with more repetitive "jobs" for people to do for ISK, and doesnt explain why anyone should or would do these to begin with. A new player needs to spend around 100 dollars on subscription time just to train be competitive in PVP in any meaningful environment. A new player will never catch up to a veteran and the in-game skill gap (essentially a pay to win gate) also means that no matter what you do the veteran is objectively stronger than you by some margin. Some skills take day, weeks and even months to complete, all of which make your abilities in-game better. These add up over time. Thats why they started selling skill points for money. Milking the newbies who want to engage in something more fun. And for a game to have microtransactions when its already a subscription is just greedy and pathetic. Maybe not for me? I started playing before you did. And I quit and restarted several times. I tried getting friends into it. The result was always the same - wasted 50+ bucks and a couple months of time to give up because of how boring it actually is to play. If people literally watch Netflix while playing the game then the game is obviously not every engaging or entertaining. It is literally just a background job-like task to run with no actual purpose.

I played solo for about three years, and though it ~could have been a great experience..... it _most certainly_ was NOT. it is easily the MOST TOXIC player base of _any_ game (read: simulator) if there were a NON mmo version of eve I'd be in like sin, but it K!lled MMO's entirely for me. Side note: _Stay out of NulSec._ I CANNOT stress that statement enough. There be nothing but douchecanoes.

Lets be honest.... you need higher hacking skills to hack a nil sec site, Knowledge takes years not days , Insurance doesn't pay, Subs and trust issues are the reason players leave. full stop.
@umadbroimatroll7918
@umadbroimatroll7918 7 дней назад
Hacking skills needed to hack nullsec sites take at most a week to get all to level 4 which is what is needed. Maxing all hacking skills in the game only takes 2 months, you are overstating the time needed for exploration playstyle. Actual game knowledge is more important than game skills and those are learned differently between each person, someone might pick up avoiding dying in exploring fast, while someone else has issues with dscan or knowledge of how to escape bubble camps and struggle more.
