Itzy is a popular K-pop girl group under JYP entertainment, the music label that also houses Korean acts like Twice, Stray kids, and Nmixx. Itzy consists of five members: Yeji, Lia, Ryujin, Chaeryeong, and Yuna and are making a comeback with their 2nd studio album Born to Be and will have two title tracks, born to be and Untouchable. They already have hit songs under their belts like Dalla Dalla, Icy, Wannabe, Not Shy, Mafia in the Morning, and Loco. But their more recent comeback with sneakers, Cherhire, and cake was met with poor acclaim. Leading to make people dubbing them as “flops” but are they really flops. Watch this video to find out.
Thank you for watching and be sure to like and subscribe since I’m a new RU-vidr and that will massively help me out.

Honestly, i dont know if saying they are flopping is right. BUT their popularity is currently in a low point. They went from a HUGE group, to almost a second thought group. I am hopeful the popularity returns. I really like Itzy, a lot, but i do feel like the last few releases are not as good.

That exactly what I’m saying. Yes they are underperforming, but people calling them flops are outrageous.

Well put together. These Queens have released nothing but great music. Even their least liked songs are good. If you chart, you aren't flopping. Period. These Queens are amazing at all they do. OT5 since debut, tattooedmidzyforlife 💕

They are so talented. Even though they are underperforming, I truly believe that born to be will put them on the top again. The born born to be was so good, I’m obsessed with with and the whole vibe of the album feels so good.

@@Pop-Analytical agreed. JYP has been steering them all over the place lately. They have to find themselves for sure. They all are the full package and are capable of being the best. My bias is Choi Jisu and I pray that she comes back healthy and ready to shine like I know she can. I need Lia for Itzy to be complete. I know she was never strong at dancing, but she wouldn't have debuted if she didn't have the talent. Lia is the reason I have a Midzy tattoo. Love my Queens.

Not a hardcore kpop fan but let's be real, the music is the weakest link. I have listened to this group since their very first song and it's been downhill since 2-3 years ago. Just not something I'd actively listen or even put in the background while driving. But then again, I listen and play a completely different genre of music regularly so maybe different strokes for different folks. I'm also assuming the record label heavily controls what type of music they put out to stop cannibalizing the other groups from the same company. The dancing is always top notch though. Cannot see another group that comes close
@Jay.swizzle
@Jay.swizzle 8 месяцев назад
@@math001 yes, JYP tends to not use other concepts other groups are using. His main focus appears to be their top notch dancing. Twice are also amazing dancers from the same label. No question that JYP has the best dancers consistently. They bounce back and forth with writers, so that's why it feels like they take a step back at times. I also STAN Blackpink and Twice, so I do a lot of research. Itzy has what it takes to be the best, but something has gone wrong a few times. Hopefully they are back on track. They also need Choi Jisu healthy since she is the main vocalist.

itzy's decline in popularity was quite sudden compared to other groups which dwindle gradually (e.g twice). i wonder why is this so, but i think it's mostly attributed to their releases. their first 3 songs were so good and then we have boys like you :/

Itzy can't flop because no matter how many toxic fanbases of other groups band together to make it seem like bad songs, there's always midzy who is just vibing in happiness and peace unbothered by the hate trains. Personally I love how many different sounds itzy tried throughout the years. When I workout I can put the entire discography on shuffle without it getting monotonous. Groups who stick to one sound are fun for like 5 songs before you have to change the group because it's all the same.

Ive, New Jeans and Lesserafim are really doing well now. Give it 2-3 years and I won't be surprised if there will be doom-posting videos about them. They won't stay on top forever. That's just the order of things.

True that. But Itzy’s downfall was fast and not gradual like most other groups.

@@Pop-Analytical They are still charting decently and when I mean decently, most hits are in the top 30, selling millions and are getting product endorsements. Sure they have slowed down a bit but not what I would call a downfall. They are just currently not the trendy girl group anymore. You know who is having a downfall? It's Fifty-fifty. Situations that I would also consider as downfall were T-ara's and Momoland's.

I doubt New Jeans will ever flop. They are literally the most loved group in South Korea domestically compared to girl groups and even boy groups.

@@TokkiBunBunsI wasn't even saying that they are going to flop. I said they won't be on top forever and it won't be surprising if some kpop stans would create some doom-posting videos like this about New Jeans, I've, Lesserafim or some other groups. Their 2nd year just started. Just because one group is not on top doesn't mean they are flops.

No, NJ will not flops as long as they are hardcore ahjussi supporting them who have a lot buying power. Debuting minor can and will attract those, like it or not, you cant deny the fact. Have you seen them being $xualized? Very disturbing and disgusting.
@yamatonadeshiko567

Finally, someone said it, they are not flops. They just have their high and low moments just like what every singer goes through. I feel like the main problem with itzy is not them, their music or even their management. Yes management could have done better but I bet even if they did their best there will still be those who won't be satisfied. The way I see it, Itzy just needs a song that would please both the international and korean fans at the same time. When the do songs that are a hit with the korean gp, international fans don't like it and vice versa. Sneakers did very well in Korea, it's probably one of their highest charting song but international fans hated it and seems to prefer Cheshire. I also don't think they are losing their identity like what others think because I do think they are very consistent. I don't really get why kpop fans would say that Sneakers or Cake were a concept change because those kind of have the same vibe as Icy. Although Cake kind of follows that garage pop that is trendy in kpop right not due to new jeans, it still retains itzy's core identity. Honestly, the itzy doomposting by a lot of kpop fans and youtubers are starting to get really annoying. It's even worse when these kpop fans or youtubers act as if their opinions are facts, as if they are experts when they aren't. Ive,Ne

Losing popularity can be due to many reasons. 1) New Group with new music 2) Hype fan who jump train (When general public loves them, they follow and vice versa) 3) hate post *majority of it bs and dumb af. And ganged by other fandom (toxic). Best example: recently released solo MV being spammed by bot and reported. 4) Rise of immatured and biased ktuber who *incite people to hate them* Ppl wanna this and that from itzy, all done by them, Too western sound? **Sneakers and Cake, if this not kpop coded idk. Too childish? Mitm, chesire, ringo, b2b, b.o.m. allegations of copying other...... Notice that this only applies to Itzy. When other gg done the same, they were applaud for experimental music, easy and repetitive lyrics, refreshing 🙄 really brave to try new concept, never receive major hate when changing concept. Ngl, itzy Cake, b.o.m have better message than SOME currently popular songs. I can go on and on. Hate train on Itzy is really scary. I wish, hope and pray they do not succumb to those toxic comments.

In my opinion, Itzy debuted as a 'rebel' girl group. and a 'girl power' group. This attracts a certain audience, which they clinched. However, you can only do so many 'girl power' and 'rebel' songs before it all just looks cliche and 1 dimensional. Like all of the previous successful girl groups, they need to learn how to expand out into the different genres to capture other audiences as well as show a different side to this group. Take any of the real popular girl groups of the recent past (particularly Twice and GG). These groups amassed a huge following for their ability to try different girl group genres and nailed it. And people who are fans of certain biases are hungering to see their idol try new things. That's just my two cents. It would be nice to see them perform some cutsey songs or really anything different from the 'girl power/rebel' genre.

ITZY is literally doing the Disney version of what being a "rebel" is, and their lyrics and sound completely reflect that. Their target audience at this point are schoolchildren and teenagers.
@calripplebear1293
@calripplebear1293 7 месяцев назад
@@ilikealotofthings731 This theme wasn't founded by "Disney" and I'm sure that's not where they drew the inspiration. This concept is girl crush and more-so 'badass', which has existed in kpop since near the beginning of this industry. You see snsd do plenty of songs like this, but they also had several other genres that they did, as well.
@ilikealotofthings731
@ilikealotofthings731 7 месяцев назад
@@calripplebear1293 They're trying to be badass, but they're doing the family friendly version of it, which is not immediately appealing to an older demographic. There's nothing wrong with what they're doing, but it's definitely not going to do well especially when you compare ITZY to groups like LESSERAFIM, and (G)I-DLE which are bolder and speak out on real issues that people face.

Itzy is one of the greatest female acts in Kpop - of every generation. But I don't expect their problems will vanish and there is a way back to glorious old times. What happened with Cheshire & Kill My Doubt will continue with Born To Be. They don't underperform, but this is the new normal. It is impossible to fulfill the requirements of domestic & international fans with one & the same track. But what is bad at a lower chart rank when you can sell over a million hard copies? More over this problem of a splitting market (which is the price to pay for going global) isn't hitting Itzy alone: The same issue is facing a lot of groups of greater and smaller reputation. TRI_BE for example is caught in the same trap: every step to make them more popular at home weakens their reputation overseas. Every contribution for their Latin, Eastern European, Islamic, Indian & US audience backfires in Korea. But: they make good sales (on their level, of course, not on Itzy's). This is a problem of Kpop as a whole industry, not the problem alone of Itzy, TRI_BE, K.A.R.T, Dreamcatcher, Pixy & what all the export orientated, world wide operating groups are. The Times of BlackPink and Twice are over. Now you have to decide as producer and agency which market you want to serve.

Agreed but I do believe that some songs satisfy the demand for both international and domestic fans alike. They just have to choice the single more carefully.

@@Pop-Analytical I commit that Mafia & Loco, Itzy's first "flops", aren't the songs I would but on first place of my personal discography of Itzy. But these were international successes and I'm an international fan.On the other hand Cheshire is one of their greatest songs to me. So what? This is also a question of personal taste. You CAN'T definite a collective taste in terms of quality alone. The Korean audience is far younger than the international one. 10 to 15 years n average. I don't see that Itzy's more recent songs are weaker in form of quality. Some would only rejected because of their language (japanese or english). Boys of Your Kind owns great lyrics and vibes, as does BlahBlahBlah. If you demand the same "quality" and character as before you force them to copy themselves. And in the end it is so boring like the stuff BlackPink released for years. Teddy Park did never change the concept even for a bit. He wasted BP's potential for the commercial impact. The big audience honored it.
