As many people believe Jay Cutler is the uncrowned 2001 Mr.Olympia. Today I will place both Ronnie and Jay in a comparison using all of the poses to see once and for all who did win this event.
Ronnie was a beast in 2001 .. If you judge the contest on who had the biggest hardest most balanced physique .. he wins hands down .Jay was a bit less blocky in 2001 but he was no real threat to the ultimate mass freaky mass monster that Ronnie was that year
Pro life only while 2001 may not have been the strongest year Ronnie in terms of his midsection his back (where most Mr. Olympia contests are won) biceps, quads, Lats, delts showed superior to the competition. Aesthetics are important to the sport, but it is called bodybuilding.. so the best built man should win .
Rick3140 Carter yeah lol no real threat, he only beat coleman on the score card😂. Jay won the contest on paper until Coleman got a perfect posing round score which everyone knows is bs bc he has terrible routines.
Jay Cutler won both the prejudging and the mandatories (rounds 1 & 2), which is where all of your photo’s are from. So.... if you give it to Ronnie based on these.. you’re disagreeing with how it was judged. Meanwhile... I agree with the judges, Ronnie’s a bit too soft, watery and bloated.
When you use pictures only, it takes the transitions out of it. Ronnie looked terrible in all the transitions. I only use still photos so the results may vary. I disagree with the judges in 2002 also, I think Ronnie should have Lost that year.
I was at the NIGHT of Champions in 2001 when Jay arrived as a pro and won that show outright. He arrived at the Olympia clearly the best on stage. Politically, the judges were not ready to awars Jay the title that night. Jay was crazy diced, full, and dry as a bone. Only his comeback is better form. Jay in 2001 was as good as it gets.
'01 was the year Cutler should've won. Nearly all the guys on stage said that. Ronnie lacked the separation and conditioning. Ronnie took all the back shots, lost all the front shots by a mile. He had some of the worst FDB and ab thigh on stage that year. Ronnie was hard trying to hide that gut and stomach the side shots and front shots were off. Bottomline :Ronnie lost that show and IMO this was Jay's best package. He ruined his lines to get bigger and blockier to fight an even bigger Ronnie.
Jay wasn’t winning all the front shots by a mile, he wasn’t even winning all the front shots. Look at the front relaxed, Ronnie is bigger than jay in every single muscle group: bigger legs, bigger pecs, bigger delts and way bigger arms
Yep. I agree 💯 %. Jay was never aesthetic but that night , he was dry as a bone and full. Truly his best form aside from the comeback year. He chased size to his detriment trying to catch Ronnie. His winning years, aside from the comeback, were never as impressive as 2001
@@deinramsey3438 not an opinion, Coleman had the worst midsection ever, if not for his GOAT back he wouldn't have won a single Olympia, and probably shouldn't have anyways.
There are back shot photo comparisons of this Olympia where Jay's glutes are smooth, but it needs to be noted that in those shots he hadn't flexed them at the instant the photo was taken. At 2:45 and 2:55 you can see he clearly has glute striations. Not as defined as Ronnie's but they are there. His back isn't as thick and deep as Ronnie's though.

To my eyes Ronnie’s lats look relatively small this year, Ronnie definitely crushes him in the back double but I prefer the look of Jay in this lat spread specifically. If we are counting mandatories I have Ronnie winning side chest and the rear double, but I prefer the look of Jay in every other pose. His ab and thigh pose in particular was absolutely majestic this year. Body building is a subjective sport, and if we are talking pure mass and conditioning then yeah Ronnie is definitely winning in both those categories so I see why the judges gave him the W. I like Jay better though, he just looks so damn awesome here.
The controversy comes from Jay being ahead after prejudging but some how losing at the night show. Everyone knows that the finals are just for the fans and not really judged. So how is it that Ronnie scored more points when there wasn't supposed to be anymore points awarded?
Great job. Unbiased as usual. There is the idea that the challenger must defeat the reigning champion clearly and decisively, even if by a slight margin, in order to lose to become the new champion. Cutler did not do this. If a tie, Coleman wins. Coleman deserved the win.
There are, like other comments point out, interviews of competitors who said (including Jay) that Jay was winning that show hands down, and was actually more conditioned than the king Coleman.
yeah I agree, Ronny is too much ! I think Jay really brought it from the fron tthough! I thought the Kevin addition was superb especially seeing that 92 version, I have the dvd and now cause of your comments I look at that version totally different, I think those early Kevin's are his best! :) We all have to remember how fresh Kevin was then, he had no injuries, a bit later, in the same year he tore his pec so that's saying something...
Yes & no. No way these two should have surpassed Kevin. Kevin blew too many years, chasing different looks. Kevin should've been a Mr. O for a decade and never completed the puzzle.
Judges had Jay winning in prejudging. What happened that turned it around for Ronnie? Did he come in better for the night show? Side note - notice the bicep peaks on Cutlers RDB. They look as big as Ronnie’s.
I like Kevin the most - as "who I want to look like" and also as a competitive bodybuilder. I'm not saying he should have won 2001 Olympia, especially with today's standards of "frog like legs" and big shredded ass. But he did look great, not busy/spilled over, aesthetic and functional looking.

From all the compulsory poses Jay takes only one - Abdominals and thighs - that`s it in all other poses Ronnie is simply light years ahead. Plus Ronnie he has better conditioning, better symmetry ,better depth and quality. You can be better from the back all you like. You shouldn win when you lose all the front shots and all the side shots. Ronnie only takes 2 mandatories, (the MM was not a mandatory until 04) The judges gave Ronnie a perfect score IN THE POSING ROUND, which is an absolute joke.
Ron was Biggger, just NOT better. Jay was a mix of Levrones Lean/conditioning & Ronnies size. But this was back when the judges were lazy fks just making dynasties for the Former Champ.
I agree, somewhat. Bubble gut Ronnie did have, but should Jay win the sandow with soft glutes and lower back? If ronnie was soft in the back I would have no problem with jay winning, but its a debate.

Ronnie's paper thin skin won him alot of shows if Jay only had that. Jay had such great abs but a blocky midsection and soft in the back not anything he could do about that. Cutler looked great but I don't think he beat him in enough shots or had enough better body parts

It might look subjective, but it really is not. For example Phil Heath has one of the best most muscular of all time. He has a better shot of that pose than Steve Kuclo. The taste is subjective, but if bodybuilding was based on taste and not on the freak factor, the actual open would be the Men's Physique. That is the sport, because not everyone likes freaks the ifbb created the Classic Physique and the Men's Physique, while 212 is just: less bloated, freak midgets category.

There’s many more factors to be taken into consideration when assessing the true artistry of a bodybuilder. Simply presenting a new level of mass to the public , while impressive as a side issue, does not have to be a major factor in the overall assessment! A smaller boned man cannot hold the mass of a larger framed man. Remember: Zane, Bannout, Dickerson, even Arnold was not massive for his frame! So who’s going to tell Cutler to put away his vision and goal for his ultimate physique and instead tell him just to try and be a bit more massive than Coleman! One simple objective!
Look at the size of the king. He's never ever been aesthetic....well maybe before 97? Some shots he looks like a literal alien. Like he's not a human being. I admit he's probably the best to ever do it. It's just that none of us would want to look like him. Looolll.

Ronnie had some better poses than Jay and had some better body parts (obviously) but (this is just my opinion) if you wanna come in as the mass monsters you wanna come in and just out muscle everyone you still need to be in condition but more importantly not with that bloated look. Ronnie, Dorian, Cutler they all have at least 1 Olympia where I feel they should have been 2nd if for nothing else to simply give them the message that they need to keep those guts in check. It is kinda funny that really the only Mr O to lose a Mr O because of a shocking stomach is Phil not really a mass monster
Ronnie should have lost 01 and 02. I understand why he won 04 but his gut that show had not only declared it's independece, it was colonizing other planets.
No as good as jay was and he looked ab insane 2001, ronnie still wins, and the reason is bc ronnie is better from behind, his back is better and his hams are better, jay is alitle better imo overall from the.front but the diff between ronnie and jay from behind is more in Ronnie's favor.
97 wasn't a robbery, the only thing Nasser had on Dorian was biceps, which were full of synthol, and judges don't like that shit. Watch the posing routines of both men and look at the difference, Nasser is soft, has no thickness from the side and Dorian has details for days. People always say 97 was a robbery because Dorian had no biceps, but there's 7 mandatory poses and Dorian only needs to win 4. imo the only person who was robbed in 97 was Kevin Levrone, Nasser should have been 3rd. 🤷♂️ Now he's just Sonbaty that we used to know, lol.

You right that Yates had better conditions at that day, but gut, symmetry and torn biceps make this victory full of crap. Compare by poses or by muscle groups Nasser won that show.

The Olympia always favours the champion, you have to unequivocally knock the champion out, and Dorian takes both back shots, the side tricep and front lat spread, that's 4 of the 7 mandatory poses, most muscular is not a mandatory pose, combine that with superior conditioning and Dorian wins.

The real victory ultimately goes to Jay simply because out of the three he seems to be the most healthy these days despite years of competitive PED use.

I feel Jay won this year. Jay even in his later 2000’s years when his back was much improved I never thought his back was anything special but this particular year Jay has some things/shots over Ronnie and Ronnie did have some things/shots over Jay but I simply felt if Ronnie needed to have the bloated wide pretty terrible stomach to have his advantages over Jay and Jay was able to have his advantages without ruining his aesthetics then I felt he should win but none of these 3 guys were at their all time best not even close

All day long Coleman had no calves. How can you be Mr Olympia with no calves. Cutler had him beat in 2001. Without question. Coleman from 2001 to the end of his career was sub standard. Bloated mid section and sub standard calves. This is when bodybuilding went into a major decline.
I remember watching it with my friend and we both thought Cutler was the clear winner. To me it's a toss up between this and 2007 as his best condition. It really comes down to preference between Aesthetics and sheer mass.
