Hey brother i know u hate black clover but at least chill out a bit the author did his best given his situation, black clover wasn't his first manga , the name of his first manga was hungry joker , it was sci fi shounen manga with a very good story with good and mysterious plot and unique power system, but it was rejected bc the mc and/or characters were to different from your typical shounen characters . Black clover is him writing was supposed to embody all the shounen troupes so it didn't get rejected, he even planned for a different mc than asta for black clover but ditched the idea bc he was afraid of getting rejected again.the black clover author was just someone who was dealt a bad hand
Check out hungry joker it's actually a complete 180° from black clover , it's just 24 chapters, it Yuki tabata original series, it has a very goo plot and the main character goal os interesting , the mc is goal was find the meaning of his existence , he lost his memories he trying to find out if his human or different entity
One thing you got wrong is that sorcerers don't use the chant for ease of use but when they do the full chant its 120% stronger than If they didn't and chants are engrained with every curse technique so gojo learned the red chant as soon as he learned red sorcers try to be better at fighting so they drop the chant also curse energy can't regularly be seen unless you have the six eyes it's more like Chakara in a sense where you can sense where it's add also pandas birth was not by accident it was deliberate gakuganji and yaga are the only ones that know also sukunas finger is not a remenant of him he physically made it himself as he's able to turn himself into curse objects him and kenjaku are the only ones that can another things are opening a domain in another domain causes a domain clash if it's an incomplete domain it causes sure hit to not work and simple domain causes sure hit to not work but it deteriorates and positive curse energy is used in RCT for healing RCT is not RCE bc Reverse curse energy is used in Curse technique reversal example gojo turns blue to red also black flash is a 2.5 power boost and there is no 1 unit of CE also people Born without CT can always get stronger via understanding the soul domain understanding and skill and mindset as even kusukabe would defeat megumi Todo and all other grade 1s bc he's the most skilled grade 1 sorcerer he has no technique
@@Tupadre97 But lets say they use psi for the amount of force applied so since the ap of some grade 1 characters are like large town level or smth, say 10,000 psi for an attack you put that to the power of 2.5 would be like 150,000 psi which is a lot more
@@Tupadre97 Unless you're saying that Black Flash would be useless in a fight of two people with a "1" power level, which is literally impossible for a Jujutsu Sorcerer.
I think it’s a pretty good power system. Most characters have a limited number of moves so they have to fight in a way that suits them. It also does a good job of emphasising how powerful the top guys are with supreme arts and domain expansions.
I don't think that is a flaw in a 'rating' sense against Jujutsu, as I think that is more a narrative/worldbuilding attribute and less a demerit to the power system(in comparison to other anime power systems). It is the foundation for the elitism that is prominent in Jujutsu society, and serves to demonstrate this this world and setting is just unfair, cruel and painful.
It feels a bit like what you see you get and there's hardly any room to Improve the Technique which just makes too predictable how the characters will fight way in the future. It a fun power system but it's unfair and kinda one sided. If we look at other power systems there's most of the time a way to improve your technique thereby cancelling the problem of a one sided battle as one technique irrespective of how powerful can be honed to match with stronger ones making a battle truly worth the watch.
@@mahistv you missed the point of the story. JJK is fundamentally about power and its effect on people. People who are born with it, people without it, and people who throw away their humanity to obtain it.
I wish more people discussed Fate’s Reality Marbles being the most direct inspiration for Domain Expansions (Look at Shirou and Yuta’s trump cards for example)
Yeah. It’s that was my first impression of the Domain Expansion. It’s literally a reality marble (on a conceptual basis) The extra addition is that you can cast them in contest with each other, and that there’s actually an exterior to the technique that can be breached. So more room for interaction rather than a strict time limit as the world tries to crush the reality marble and you keep it going with absurd quantities of magical energy.
Yeah, Gege is a Fate fan so it’s an obvious deduction for anyone in the know. Main difference between them is their imaginary scale. Reality Marbles are for all intents and purpose, another dimension, that cannot be broken into or out of without dimension traveling capabilities. Where as a Domain Expansion still exist within the physical world, and has a physical barrier that can be breached.
you forgot curse technique reversal : By applying positive energy, the effects of the technique will be reversed. For example, by fueling the Limitless technique with positive energy, Gojo can bring infinity, which is normally an invisible phenomenon, into reality as a tangible explosive force.
I think the difference with when emotions are good or bad in JJK is the same as getting angry and randomly lashing out at people and useing your anger in a productive way like cleaning your house or painting, when you use the anger to fuel yourself properly instead of raging put of control you get a boost but if you lets your anger control you you lose grip on your powers
For RCT my theory is that it works kind of like nuclear fusion. Say your normal cursed technique requires 4 units of cursed energy, in order to perform your CTR, you would take 16 (4x4) units of CE and compress it until it reaches the volume of 4 units. At that point, some sort of reaction occurs which forms positive energy. The reason why RCT occurs in the brain is probably because that's where the ability to compress CE comes from. The ability to use Domains also comes from the brain and seems heavily linked to RCT since having your Domain on cooldown seems to correlate to a drop in your RCT output. So whereas RCT has you compress CE until it reaches critical mass, Domains probably requires you to compress while leaving a small opening for CE to spew out at high pressures. Regularly, CE seems to flow like water or bellow like flames... but DEs are more like explosions. With that being said, I think Domains (or at least sure-hit/kill domains) are an "unnatural" use of a sorcerer's brain, hence why it causes damage. The idea of compression also fits with the analogy of Domains being like paintings since paint guns also have compressors that allow paint to be distributed as quickly and evenly as possible. Maybe some time long ago there was probably a sorcerer who had reached a desperate point in a battle where he NEEDED his next attack to land. So he thought of trapping the enemy in a barrier, and gambling on exploding his Cursed Technique as an omnidirectional blast. To do this he probably had to leak his CT (which is also stored in the brain) into the compression chamber through some sort of "valve". So the reason why CT has a cooldown after the use of a Domain, is because the valve cant be manually closed, or maybe the CT needs to reboot like a computer that encountered an error due to tampering. Lastly, the "unnatural" status of sure-hit/kill domains is probably exemplified by natural domains being one and the same as the user's cursed technique (Hakari and Higoruma). To our knowledge, their technique only exists within their domains which they are instinctively able to use and recast. So maybe the original domains were simply a category of cursed technique with no need to tamper with the brain's inner "compressor" or the "valve" of the CT chamber.
"multiplying cursed energy against itself" is a very theoretical consept. You see, cursed energy isn't only "negative" symbolically, but also literally. You can think of it like how electrons have a negative charge, while protons have a positive one. Since the negativity of cursed energy is quite literal, it works the same way as negative and positive numbers do in mathematics, hence, "-x × -x = x". I don't know how to put it into words exactly since it is a very abstract consept, it is probably why only a few scant of people can actually perform reverse cursed technique
In particle accelerators you smack electrons with electrons and get positive electrons. In the same way If you accelerate ce into itself it should get the same reaction. Hence hiya howa
Don't bring electrons into this. If you reversed their charge, and also time, and also flipped the universe, all interactions would be the same. The charge convention is largely arbitrary.
I know how the math works, It's just hard to wrap my head around it practically. IF you collide an apple with an apple you don't get more apples. You have take a seed and plant it, then it technically multiplies. But how do you do that with CE?
The thing about crossing a river being spiritually significant makes more sense from a cultural standpoint. Curse energy is kind of like how curses are shown in Chainsaw Man, where their power is tied to public perception. Lots of stuff in Jujutsu is based on Japanese folklore and so things that have cultural significance gain supernatural properties.
the nen inspiration is clear but it does add its own twists, like you said its a pretty solid system, and honestly drawing from nen for your power system is already a step in the right direction
Great Video as always But.... This 10:21 isn't a multiplyer... It's an Exponent. Which makes it *So Much Worse* 💀 Also Fun fact: If used in a sequence, it can also replenish one's CE lvls🤷♂️ Plus there's Also CT reversal, which is different from reverse curse technique, as RCT is essentially an application of positive energy that anyone can use to heal themselves, but Curse technique reversal, is using positive energy to power your innate CT making it do the inverse of it's functions (For example, an attraction technique becomes a repulsion technique, a stat buffer technique becomes a stat nerfer technique, etc. etc)
What is confusing is that it is not known whether this thing can be done to all the Innate Techniques. Like how would Todo's Boogie Woogie be Inverted? Or does Sukuna use Paste as his CTR? And what about Yuta? There is still some stuff that is unclear yet.
@@sumitrana2420 yeah it does. But I personally think, like how same techniques can have vastly different applications and strengths depending on the user's Interpretation (Like Yorozu and Mai's different usage of the Creation CT, or You know who and Megumi's usage of the 10S CT) I think the same would apply to the inversion of said techniques. It would all be a matter of Interpretation. So maybe Boogie Woogie would go from "a technique that Switches the positions of targets with CE" to "a technique that Switches the positions of targets *Without* CE" Idk tho, since this is just my own interpretation of the concept🤷♂️
@@sumitrana2420 some reversals just don't make sense, what's the opposite to manipulating blood?. I don't think it's a coincidence that the only reversals we see are anti-gravity becoming gravity and negative space becoming positive space, those techniques have clear reversals.
6:00 Residual Nen actually exists too in HxH. For exemple, when Meruem uses his En at the end of the chimera ants arc, He can trace where Palm and Ikalgo went thanks to their "nen footsteps". If I recall correctly we also see something similar with Welfin.
I don't see how innate techniques being random/lucky is a detractor from the power system, when it directly ties into the themes of the story. This story is all about how unfair life is, and how your circumstances shape your worldview and vice versa.
The world is unfair but the fact that they can literally do nothing about it is the problem. Even tho life's unfair do you just sit down and just say "oh well" cause that's exactly what is happening to these characters. There is hardly any room for growth. I get the theme but the fact that many characters have died for this very reason is the reason the power system is flawed. A series that did this well was black clover. it showed that life was unfair but it didn't restrict the main character from advancing. To me saying life's unfair as an excuse to stagnant a characters growth is just wrong. BTW I love JJK but I'm just stating facts.
@@JohnImemesi-rp9fj And? If making cursed energy is the intent, I'd say it actually elevates the power system's quality if it is able to so successfully reflect the ideology of the series.
@@JohnImemesi-rp9fj Consider the alternate angle - Solo Leveling. The entire point of that series is that powers are unfair, and only one person ever gets access to true fairness. It's perfectly in-line with the series' themes if the power system reflects the innate unfairness of the society it exists in. Besides, a person can still be super strong without a cursed technique. Yuji fights without one for most of the series, the strongest Grade 1 Sorcerer doesn't have one, and even Sukuna's strength comes largely from his ungodly grasp of jujutsu basics.
BIG MANGA SPOILERS :::::::::::::::::::::::::: / I also think it's really cool how recent chapters of the manga have been showing characters grow past the inherent limitations of jujutsu in line with the higher ups being assassinated and real social change finally happening, like Higuruma speedrunning RCT or Yuji forcibly obtaining a technique or Maki giving sukuna a real run for the crown without a technique, just makes me immensely hyped for the upcoming conclusion. This is Gege making good on the promise that things would have to change for the world to really be set on the right track.
@@JohnImemesi-rp9fj Have you read the manga yet? Season 2 ends before any character finds a solid grasp on how to grow past the jujutsu system, but it does happen eventually. I'm trying to keep it vague, but yea. I would've agreed like a year ago.
@mahistv Negative plus negative equals a positive. How about this? I am standing towards the right side now. I turn around IM facing the left side making a negative now. I turn around again facing the right side so I'm facing the same direction. That' how you get a positive, I think.
Power system goes to Nen (HxH) Choreography goes to Kishimoto (Naruto) Drip goes to Tite Kubo. Kishimoto up there but Bleach is swagged tf out. JJK has a mix of all this. Its good but Gege leaves a lot to be desired by skimping on more details. Thats why things become borderline asspulls because we dont know enough about the system before he lets Gojo and Sukuna wow us and his characters just to flesh it out. I would love to have seen a whole Cursed Technique Reversal training arc or something.
you want a story or a document bro? but I gonna be honest I think they should make a document about the system when the story is over, because after all somehow the "fans" are looking to the new chapters and calling it the most boring things, so I guess if they did an arc about it JJk would die for a good time
@@b.a.r.f1004 Naruto didn't need a documentary. Bleach didn't need one either for Zanpakuto or Kido/Hado. I'm honestly baffled that all we know about cursed energy/techniques is Reveal Ones Hand (which's power boost is vague at best) and Domain Expansions. I guess there's also Heavenly Blessings if that ever got explained in-depth. The rest of power system is character specific. Everyone has their own power that works wildly different and isn't connected to an actual system.
0:18 in demon slayer it was said that if the blade breaks the technique isn't good enough, with tanjiro's lack of experience and fatigue it made sense for his blade to break pre Hinokami Kagura
in actuality cursed objects are made by long exposure from cursed energy or infusion with a spirit or technique, tools are the same thing but with weapons, domain expansions have conditions, it is not always a sire hit effect, like Hirugumas domain, depending on the sentence it might cause a different effect
love the curse energy system, its basically taking the worst aspect of yourself and weaponizing it. Curse energy can be the metaphor of people being a danger to themeselves and others without self control let alone consideration. To be a strong sorcerrer you have to be selfish and dive into the darker aspect of yourself. Know yourself and be the best version of yourself.
I think my main issue with the jjk power system is the fact that 80% of the potential of sorcerers is decided at birth. This is the reason why the majority of sorcerers in this show never actually get stronger, everyone just stays the same strength and everyone relies on Gojo for the big boy jobs. I personally prefer anime where the amount of hard work, training, intelligence and skill determine someone's strength, not genetics.
I agree. Its overly convoluted but doesnt really get anywhere apart from visual candy. This is why I like Naruto for example. He got powerful through hard work, and even his birth given power - 9 tails, first he worked hard to be sufficient without that chakra, then worked hard to control it and finally befriended Kurama to get its full power. Its earned, its simple. It just works.
I also dislike this but I actually think the anime could have worked with what was given, the problem is that we just never see anyone get better at the thing they were born with. Like this video said, techniques are supposed to have multiple layers but the only ones we really see is Gojo learning red and purple, which was pretty interesting, and what else? Yuji learning how to punch better? That sequence got it's interest solely from Todo Yuji interactions, not the punching. From what I've gathered I think the interest in magic systems comes as a tool for something, not in showcasing something that doesn't exist irl. Imagining what you could do and seeing what characters do with said system is where the interest lies. JJK just leaves little to be imagined. I also kind of feel like it's a bit disjointed. You have the core things like CE and techniques but things like black flash, domains and simple domains are more added on instead of being extensions of the concept, this may be why people sometimes call it convoluted. It seems more wide than tall. I wouldn't call the system bad but I wouldn't call it impressive
@@infinitenex8165pretty sure naruto was born with ungodly chakra from his mom, sasuke no explanation needed on how his stuff isnt from pure hard work, besides might guy at the end of the show nobody who was an average ninja was relevant, so naruto is a pretty bad example of “hard work” not talent anime, like nostalgia is really hamster wheeling for you there
Mei mei is the evidence that with a simple innate technique, one could rise above the ranks easily, hell look at Kusakabe who does not have any crazy CTs and relies solely on manipulating cursed energy and simple domains which lets them be grade 1 status and if youre caught up with the manga, he is a BEAST. It really comes down to how you utilize the tools that were given to you, but of course luck is still a factor which i think adds the unpredictability to it and its fun
I thought the cursed energy system was fine, but then Gojo brought himself back to life with the power of elementary math and I lost any good will I had for the power system
@@mahistv ik kinda makes sense tô me since there are People in our world Who survive gunshots tô The head and still Live. He was already a gênius and Just needed a " push " tô figure it out . That being said , He would need tô imediatly start healing tô stop himself from dying , toji should have 100 % sensed it and finished The job . Dude got The 5 enhanced senses for nothing
@@mahistvthing is he wasn't stabbed with the inverted spear of heaven, and typically when characters in jjk are pushed to the brink of death some of them have a reawakening of their powers(gojo unlockthe rest of limitless and megumi creating his domain expansion) if toji had used the spear when he stabbee gojo in the brain then gojo woulda been cooked but since he didnt gojo started to use rct once toji had stabbed him in the neck and focused all his energy to the rct which is how he survived. Also the basic math he was using is most likely just him being high off of the near desth experience and awakening his full potential
I mean, thats how reversed cursed energy is made (atleast in gojos case) which I think makes sense because he's an inherently mathematical character, its why his technique is so stupendously annoying, the technique itself alters reality mathematically so it makes sense that (gojo specifically) can make reversed cursed energy by multiplying cursed energy (negative "numbers") together but yeah the brain thing was stupid
I mean: 1. Its Gojo so what do you expect, he's pretty much Budda 2. RCT has already been stated that it cant be taught, your brain just kinda learns it. The Negative x Negative = Positive is just how they explain it, but it isnt supposed to make sense to anyone other than people who can use RCT 3. If it was anyone other then Gojo it would be dumb, but again, Gojo is Gojo 4. It was never once stated that just being struck to the brain would cut off the ability to heal. They instead say "Crush" or "Cut up" or even "Destory" insinuating that just brain damage wont kill someone with RCT. Instead it's more like you need to turn someones brain into soup or cut off Cursed Energy to the brain. It does makes sense
Controlling cursed energy is correlated but not directly related to emotion, so being angry would make a novice sorcerer waste energy but a more experienced one might be able to control their cursed energy while their emotion runs rampant.
12:40 is the same in JJK. Everyone is born an emmiter. They can also use ranged attacks. Just like in HxH it usually suffers compared to just physical enhancement. So nobody does it because the enemy is typically at your level, since they send people of appropriate strength to fight spirits. A handicap could cost you your life. Those with Innate abilities vary almost identically to HxH powers, the only difference being that it isn't your choice and it might not suit you. Oh wait, that's still very similar to HxH. If anything, I think an argument can be made that a system that forces you to be creative with your power because it might not be something you are particularly skilled at utilizing is as interesting as HxH I think nen is better for the rules left unsaid. As JJK is a bit too codified for me. But in the end the difference you pointed out there is basically a null factor from an outside perspective.
If cursed energy comes from negative emotions, then should'nt all the characters look emo/goth/suicidal-ish like L from Death Note? It kinda bugs me that all the strongest cursed energy users look like shoujo manga characters lol
JJK has a very broad concept of what counts as negative, it also doesn't really matter for sorcerers since they naturally generate the stuff without the need of emotions, it only needs a special mutation in the brain.
Don’t forget chanting or incantations, kinda like spells, but by using specific phrases you can buff or change the property of an ability to achieve a different effect . There are many types of anti domain techniques, Simple domain, hollow wicker basket, falling blossom emotions, etc, Domain amplification basically nullifies or reduces the effectiveness of a persons technique unless it targets the soul specifically it’s like how domain clashes make sure nobody gets a direct hit unless on comes out on top, but for basic battle, you also can’t use techniques while it’s active. Soul damage cannot be or is very hard to heal unless someone understands the contours of their own soul and can have RCT work on their entire being on a deeper lvl. Also black flashes can restore burnt out techniques and RCT, it’s like breaking the cursed energy limiter briefly, cheating the system to deal ridiculous near imaginary damage
Mahis be like: “I mean it’s alright, overrated as f*ck tho” Cool video, nice addition with including that it borrows stuff implicitly from hxh and other works, I also rationalised stuff in the story like that. Idk if you read the manga but it does expand a little more on the power system on it with more interesting stuff. To me it’s interesting for all the new characters and their abilities/foghting styles being introduced as well as actively trying to figure out what is about to happen from all the pieces we got so far.
Literally, the only thing I actually got from this video is the power system is complete garbage because it's just overrated energy powers that have no bloody limit and get used in the stupidest way possible.
@@mahistv I mean't "unfair" as in to the characters who are using them. Because Cursed Energy is absulutely biased almost to the point of having its own cognition. And I personally really dig that.
Great video comrade! The visualization of the black flash math, comparisons to Nen and the degree of reliance of power vs. skill are all amazing points you made. I love how the points were explained eloquently and clearly and also how conclusions were drawn sequentially and logically. If you compare Jujutsu to Nen, I truly feel there are lots more "ambiguity" with Jujutsu, leaving us for room to extrapolate or get surprised by some future events. Maybe that's part of the mysticism of the whole sorcerer narrative? The emphasis on the importance of power or amount of cursed energy (trumping creativity or technique as shown in Sukuna vs. Jogo) makes us question how will the gang fight Sukuna in the continuation of the anime. Can't wait to see what happens next! PS: very happy you brought up the "I can pray with one hand" similarity with HxH, immediately came to mind when I first saw that scene.
15:22 basically cursed technique is - charge and the character have to fuse - with - to get a + but most people don’t have enough control or skill to do it or explain it as ok we kno what it is but we don’t know how to do it thats why shoko couldn’t explain it to gojo and geto before hidden inventory. Its like asking you to stop your own heart we know your body has the muscle and nervs to dot it but you can’t ( ik you would die but i didn’t have any other example )
I think if we're comparing Nen & Cursed Technique, then there has to be space in the conversation for why those power systems work the way they do. Saying Nen rates higher than CT because anybody can make a great Technique for themselves in Hunter x Hunter is fine, but you're missing the point of JJK by doing so. Jujutsu Society is deeply flawed because of the genetic lottery of cursed techniques, and its meant to be read as a critique of that kind of power structure. The unfairness is the point, as indicated by Gojo going out of his way to draw attention to the potential of so many unconventional techniques in his class.
Makes me think about a comment about how the Jujutsu elders have a bias towards traditional techniques and that characters like Hakari, who's cursed technique is themed after an anime pachinko machine of all things, saw scorn from conservative members of Jujutsu society.
@@marthofaltea1751 Half of the reason I'm enjoying the latest chapters is because we very recently got a modern remix on one of the oldest jujutsu techniques, and I'm super excited to see how it pans out when fully-developed.
I dont find it interesting since i just see it as the writer picking when it happens. But i guess it could be worse. It could be like Cero in Bleach where they make a big deal out of it and it never deals any damage whatsoever.
@@RiqMoran writer picks everything that happens. Thats not the point. Having an inbuilt system to show a character winning the narrative battle is a very cool addition
@tarunyadav3567 i know writer picks everything. But this is still not interesting since i know its not random despite the author telling me it is. Really adds nothing, just an excuse for when the author wants to add significance to any particular hit.
To clarify RCT you just need the right visual. Say you've got a wheel with pictures of a horse in various stages of galloping sticking up from the side, this is your output. When you turn it at a lesiurely pace the horse runs backwards, and that's your regular CE (negative energy). However, when you speed up enough the horse starts running forward, and that's your RCT (positive energy). Hope this cleared things up. Also, love the content, keep it up man.
I actually prefer CE to Nen. Both are pretty interchangeable in what they can do, but the darker nature of Cursed energy fits more neatly with the worldbuilding and artstyle of JJK than Nen does with HxH. JJK also builds upon some ideas that were present in HxH but never fully utilized. As a good example, explaining your ability for a boost in power should theoretically also work in HxH and it would be a non-brainer for most people to do. Yet the only time we really see this is with Genthru's bomb being primed by his explanation. Other Nen users talk about their powers anyway, for no reason. It's a wasted opportunity to justify a common trope in a way that makes sense in universe, and JJK having the benefit of building upon Nen did just that.
Could be just a writing choice: would be repetitive if everyone had the same nen restrictions. But characters don’t really explain their nen in battle, unless they’re really confident, like Chrollo when he fights Hisoka; he already had everything planed. Hisoka abilities were explained by another character, telling us readers what’s going on. Is far more creative.
I'm sure we all know the multiplier is ^2.5 so to put it in perspective.... I hit you with 100 points but Black Flash makes it 100,000! Or 25, I end up hitting you with 3125! That's why it's so impressive to survive them or hit them consecutively
Hmmm. I wonder if that's an oversight, because that means it will take a over a thousands of attacks to do the same damage as a Black Flash, doesn't look like that in practice
In jjk are we forgetting that there are two entities that spawn mouths in their vessels? Sukuna and angel and both most likely know the truth of jujutsu.
My theory on rct is that it works similar to how you can increase you're body strength by infusing it with cursed energy where its essentially like cursed energy x your body strength you have to strengthen your cursed energy with more cursed energy which is kind of an abstract thing to do which is why its so hard. would also explain why hakari automatically does it and yuta learns it without problem as its so much cursed energy that this is a process that just kinda happens on the side. on the other hand gojo who technically doesnt have a lot of cursed energy just that he always uses and infinitly small ammount had to try really hard to learn it. Aside from shoko who is an outlier usually the people we see performing rct are either extremely talented in cursed energy controle or just have a shit ton of it.
Just watched Dr.Stone S1, and all I have to say is that if you watched Dr.Stone, make a video on it, if you haven't watch it, it's one of the best animes I've ever seen.
@@mahistv For nasuverse system I think if you ever do wanna explore it, try the VNs. The adaptations like anime and movies really dont cover the depth of the concepts in nasuverse. And Fate despite being the most popular one isn't THAT well integrated with the general magic system of Nasuverse since it mostly revolves around a very specific branch of magic and focuses on characters and fights. If you purely wanna get into the base magic system, the VN Witch on the Holy Night acts as a brilliant introduction while being an interesting story as well 😅
@@sammydray5919 I think when it comes to destructive capacity and raw power potency the Toaru Majutsu no Index magic system is greater and doesn't have as much strings attach. The Magic Gods should be alot stronger then the most powerful entities of the Fate verse like Archetype Earth and the Ultimate Ones.
@@sammydray5919 Me neither, I will inform you I have not read the light novels. However I did some research over the years popping in here and there and seen some passages of it and scaling videos and those who know Toaru lore and magic system and various sites who proactively engage in talking about match ups about them like Spacebattles. I am the cautious pragmatic type who doesn't take overscaling paradigms like outerversal which I seen many insert across various franchises in the powerscaling community which has degraded overtime and a few have done unfortunately. From what I can tell Magic Gods have some heavy reality warping and higher dimensions worth of stamina and power to draw upon. Far greater then the Nasuverse's Gaia, Ayala, or the Ultimate Ones have ever shown.
I don't think Cursed Techniques being things you're born with is anything bad in a power system. It's unfair but that's just how things are sometimes. Multiplying cursed energy by itself, to me, sounds like something written to be unknowable. It's like the characters in the story know how it operates but explaining it to the readers would be like describing hearing to someone born deaf.
I kinda like that RCT is so vague. Even the most talented geniuses in all of the verse can’t effectively explain how it works to other geniuses, it just comes naturally or it doesn’t. Having even the audience not understand how a Sorcerer could obtain RCT makes it more impressive for the characters who do have it, which is surprisingly few given the size of the cast. Minor manga spoilers ahead: There’s only eight or so characters who actually learn how to use RCT and then another two (technically three, but that third is a nothing side character) who are just born with the ability to do it. On top of that, two of the ones who learned it only figured it out in the most recent chapters of the manga, at the tail end of the story. I think it sells RCT as a rare ability pretty well, all things considered It’s how inconsistent and unexplored it is that I have a problem with…
This kinda sounds like cope for a stay that cant explain itself well. Rct isnt even that complex. Gege just uses vague language to seem more complex then it is
I think the river crossing moment is very important when considering Shibuya and how as different teams descended further into the subway system, going deeper and through different stations, effectively crossing these man made “rivers”, the situation rapidly worsened. At least that’s my take on the significance of that yet it not really being outright stated. The anime did a better job showcasing that with the direction and cinematography
Personally my main metric for how good a power system is has more to do with how well it supports the plot and themes of the show. I like mechanical consistency and there's definitely something to be said for inconsistent power systems hurting the plot of battles (YuGiOh, Naruto) but ultimately if the power system helps implement the themes of the show then it's good, and if it allows for more meaningful metaphorical implications in the writing then its great. In this regard JJK and FMA have maybe my two favorite power systems of all time. Stands from Jojos and Nen from HxH are also goated, and I really like how Bleach used the combination of spirit energy and zanpakuto although some of the ideas really got blurred in the filler episodes.
Hey sir what about the balance thing in the jujutsu K such as when gojo was born the curse spirit increase which in Thurman created more sorcerer with insane techniques. I love the video
When did Todo block it? I must have missed it... oh wait I remember. Hard to count that one as a block, since he poured EVERYTHING he had and still sustained tremendous damage
Some questions I have 1. Can Shikigamis use reverse cursed technique? Like Gojo’s Reversal Red 2. Do all cursed techniques have their own reverse cursed technique? Ex: Boogie Woogie, Blood Manipulation, Ratio and Tool Manipulation
MANGA SPOILERS AHEAD!!! 1.- Only very advanced ones, and there's technically only one that has been shown with this ability: The 10 Shadows Cursed Technique (Megumi's Cursed Technique) has Round Deer, which is a Shikigami that can output Reverse Cursed Technique to both deal heavy damage to Curses and heal people. 2.- Not explained, probably because Gege Akutami (Jujutsu Kaisen's Mangaka) saw how Cursed Technique Reversal is a concept that doesn't work with every Cursed Technique, but since it's a general application of Cursed Energy, it should theoretically work for every Cursed Technique. In the story so far there's only been 2 people shown to be capable of using this: Gojo Satoru and Kenjaku.
Since you mentioned it, YES, Demon Slayer power system is WEIRD. Breathings are "fake", yet they are all distinctively supernatural, yet, boringly similar to one another at the same time. Then there's Demon Arrs who are actual magic but came from a completly normal "rare" disease? it just doesn't make sense at all. DS is so mainstream that might be a good example to give to any random about what Bad Power System looks like.
I really hate how under underused some aspects of cursed energy ended up being cause is such a great power system. My only real complain is that I think domain expansions shouldn't've had a garanteed hit or should've had better counters.
I kinda understand your point but even if they didn't say it was garanteed, it would still be garanteed since you are basically trapped there and if you aren't strong enough or intelligent enough it trully is guaranteed after all the ones that knows this technique aren't normal
The cursed system might as well explain the dictomy of altruism/egoism in Jujutsu. It's like a oath, but only one party gets the advantage. Think of Sukuna and Itadori, their ideological conflict is about that, the first rampaging all other and getting stronger, while the later is always at some loss. It also would explain why Jujutsu's villains have "plot armor", they are egotistical, and that protects them.
Being lucky does kinda ruin the power system. In HxH the only luck there is being born with greater aura really. Yes, you can be born to be a specialist, but you still need learn how use nen, be creative, and still need use tactics in battle. There’s only a few specialist that are actually strong. Oh yeah, you can also still become a specialist if you weren’t born one.
Yeah, rce was one thing I never understood, like how do you multiply ce against itself, I thought at first it was positive emotions but the only people who know it are those who are naturals at cursed energy, gege definitely has a few problems with his power system
Yeah, it just one of those things that you can justify with "we don't know how it feels because we don't have magic", so I won't hold it against him. Mathematically speaking, it's possible
I always viewed it as you combine your cursed energy in a different way. Normally you just increase your cursed energy by smashing it with itself but reverse cursed technique could be you spiral it or something odd like that.
We know that cursed energy has its natural flow, the way it cycles in users body. We know that users can to an extent manipulate the way it flows and make it flow in direction that differs from natural. RCT is when user can change the direction to an opposing, making it clash with natural flow, creating reversed cursed energy
I moreso think it's just a sorcerer multiplying their ce output exponentially which is why it's so hard for certain characters in the manga that I won't spoil.
5:41 This happen also in the Mahito vs Todo&Yuji fight the reason Mahito removed a piece of armor was because it was a bait for Yuji to attack there so he left the rest of the body unprotected and he put all his curse energy in that point but when Yuji hit, he had done a divergent fist. All this is explained in the manga. Also in the manga there is a very similar scene with two character. But I won't do spoiler because I think you only watched the anime.
In this video the system looks good but in the show berly nothing is explained. For example black flash comes out of nowhere and then gos way to make room for domain expansion and then comes back. Or all of the returning back to life of the blood Brothers it wasn't explained at all
If cursed energy was real I would wait her regenerate cursed energy so fast or have way too much to the point where I am constantly pissed off at something 2:43
Bro good video but damn u didn't need to take a cheap shot at black clover , most of the spells were foreshadowed , it was stated to be rare occurrence plus it take extreme talent to do and it has been hundreds of chapters since somebody just awakened a spell just like that , most off ppl gave the power system a thumbs up
@@mahistv pls check out hungry joker I guarantee u the story is more unique, it was actually Yuki tabata (black clover mangaka) first work , but it was cancelled bc it was too different from your typical shounen . It has a unique power system, a good and mysterious plot with a good story and MC goal is very different from your typical shounen protagonist, if I was describe the mc , he is a curious, sometimes apathetic, guy who doesn't know how to process emotions
3:38 I mean Yuji DOES have Superhuman strength, plus it just makes you lose cursed energy faster, I'm pretty sure its not gonna make you worse at using it 10:29 A 2.5 exponent
@@mahistv 1) Yeah but they didn't say how easy it is to overcome that, it could be PATHETICALLY easy to control CE even in fits of negative emotion if you're not dogshit at using CE. Also my head canon for it just improving it, WHICH DOESN'T HAPPEN I DUNNO WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT, is that their negative emotions are fueling the cursed energy, just like how negative emotions from non-sorcerers make curses, negative emotions from sorcerers makes some more cursed energy. Also if you say the clip you showed was a example of sorcery improving, thats stupid because a perfectly calm Yuji itadori busted through a wall, yet he cant even break the wall he punched in rage, full force. 2) Excuse? No, Itadori would have 100 THOUSAND POINTS OF DAMAGE, do you even know what a exponent or power is? Incase you somehow don't know and have a elementary understanding of math, let me explain the difference. A multiplier is like, how many groups of that number it would become, 5x2, its 2 groups of 5 or 5 groups of 2. A power is repeated multiplication, so you take a number and turn it into more groups, 5 x 5, 5 groups of 5, but then you times that 25 you got by 5 again, then with 125, do it again, as many times as the number the exponent is until you have your answer.
I liked JJKs power system but unlike Ki, Nen, Chakra or Soul Society power system......its very situational. Like its dependent on curses and the series partially is about the future of humans if they need to rid it of cursed energy or optimize it. But take away curses.....i guess its good for just mainly fighting depending on what you got?
To be honest I feel like there is nothing better than nen. Bending from avatar is very consistent but nen is so perfect in the sense it gives you ultimate freedom while also having clear set rules, not only that but you can kinda do whatever.
I haven't watched the vid. I think the most 'loose' thing about jjk power system is binding vows. The limitations are unclear for what one could get by sacrificing something (because as far as theory goes, I'm pretty sure it's about balance, which is a prominent concept in jjk). Yet, the characters are sometimes seen taking only the benefit while losing pretty much nothing (spoiler alert, like Sukuna in recent chapter, although this is still unclear) or performing things that are totally out of their league (for example, turning people into objects, wtf? Or Hakari surviving Kashimo's last attack, which he would definitely not, where did all his cursed energy go?)
It's pretty good but I don't like how it's so vauge and intentionally left mysterious so that aspects of it can be introduced with no set up to convinience the plot.
I don’t think JJK’s system is weaker for being more power focused rather than strategy. The reason is very simple: The main characters are the ones lacking in power, not the enemy’s. Requiring the main characters to outsmart their opponent. - curses are by default stronger than humans. With a greater resillience and intuitive understanding of cursed energy - Sukuna exists. And with the exception of mr stuck in a box nobody can even come close to matching him (and I doubt Gojo can beat Sukuna without taking some crippeling damage. If at all). Mechamaru is probably the best example of this. He had years of stored energy, had the home field advantage, and had counters specifically designed for his opponents. He still lost. Granted its not always about the big brain plays. Sometimes it is just a matter of punching harder. But that comes down more to the style of the author rather than a lacking magic system
Me personally I really like JJK's powersystem I just never liked the whole RNG aspect of cursed techniques; that "80% of a sorceoror's skill is bound to their innate talent" line made me physically bwomp watching JJK for the first time Cuz it's pretty much a narrative way of saying "What you see it what you get buddy", and capped the potential of some to avoid you speculating I may have my own gripes about nen like how it's needlessly convoluted and complex (like literally what are these principles just have the 6 categories and call it a day man. This is just ki with a math equation) But atleast the characters could MAKE their abilities. Which often said alot about them and enforced their personalities
Idk theres some application to using Ren, Zetsu, Hatsu, Ten, Ko, Ryu, Kou, En, Shu, Gyo, and In. They're pretty much similar to JJK curse energy manipulation and application while the 6 principles are leaning more to the cursed techniques
Correction: not everyone can use black flash. Toji and Maki can’t as they don’t have cursed energy. Also if anyone loses control of their cursed energy, then they cannot use black flash. Since mahito could give CT to people, he might be able to remove CE control from people.
Imagine if someone decided to consume a cursed spirit example if someone ate jogo or mahito would they be possessed by the cursed spirit or will they get their cursed technique? (It will be similar to genya who eats demons)
you didn't mention, cursed traits, domain amplification, falling blossom as well as chants/incantations as well as jujutsu being abt shortening those chants in order to become efficient which is first brought up in hidden inventory and then expanded upon in the beginning of Gojo vs Sukuna. there's also more to cover in terms of technique targets as well as what innate domains are within the body. also the whole idea of curses at least in the manga are visualized thru "black boxes/panels" which ties into themes abt sorcery since there are a few select people who are "cursed" with these abilities and therefore have responsibilities placed upon them. words and wills can be passed on and become curses both mentally as well as part of reality. after all cursed energy is born out of human fear and other negative emotions. both curses and sorcerers techniques reflect the societies they live in considering the disaster curses as well as more modern techniques like hakaris and naobito. emotions in jjk also play less n less of a role since Yuji refines his CE control immensely. I feel like potential limiting your abilities is kind of a meta thing that's part of the story and lessens the confusion while watching since hxh can be quite obscure when it comes to that.
You're right, but this was a "general" analysis of whether this system is a good power system, not an in depth explanation of every possible aspect of it (otherwise the vid would have been an hour long).
Good video, but I think this kinda misses the point of cursed energy. It's very random and deterministic but that's in service of what the story is saying about the various hereditary aspects of jujutsu thematically connecting to political power. Cursed energy functions as an allegory for suffering, in the buddhist sense, and its primary role outside of fighting is as a parallel to the jujutsu establishment and the ways it sacrifices people's suffering for power and self-perpetuation. There are also several deep ties between each character and their techniques, usually symbolizing the way they process their negative emotion (get it? because the technique is how they process cursed energy so it's like a parallel lol) ex. megumi, kamo, geto, gojo, etc. Basically, cursed energy from a writing perspective sacrifices some narrative flexibility to make a more pointed statement about power structures in real life through a buddhist lens of analysis. Imo that makes it better than nen from a writing perspective, since nen is a more interesting system from a surface-level technical standpoint and connects to its characters very well but doesn't have the same level of deep connection to the world itself that cursed energy does.
