I've been chipping away at a little tank series and it's been fun but also challenging in that you need to also go SLOW! Other than that it's just looking before you leap! 👀
How is the series going? Are you enjoying the process. And yeah, going slow is probably the most difficult thing for beginners to realize and adapt to. Saltwater Aquarium Time just seems to run a lot slower! -Matthew
@@HelloReefSo far so good! Though I watched months worth of RU-vid guides before I jumped in so I prepared for "going slow" The only issue I've had so far was nitrates going to 0. I'm doing a canister filter tank so added a bit of macro algae to assist and boy does that stuff suck up nutrients fast. I'm feeding the tank a bit extra now though which seems to keep levels up a little higher. But the nitrate factory rumour seems to be a bit exaggerated. I'm testing once or twice a week and so far I'm only needing to clean the pre-filter once a month. Though the tank is still quite lightly stocked. Adapting is key very good advice!
Ah yes, macroalgae. So many hobbyists don't use it, and they are missing the fact that it is a one-stop-end to nutrients. It raises pH, consumes nitrates and phosphates, and provides a home to copepods. It's amazing. And you can control nutrient level easily by adjusting how much there is, as well as the lighting schedule. If nitrates are too low, consider only running the light for 8-12 hours at night. If they are too high, turn that light up! Glad to hear things are going well! -Matthew
My saltwater tanks are easier than the freshwater i had and I am color blind and when people see my tank they ask if I'm sure I'm color blind where it looks so nice
I have confidence in you! I'll say a lot of people have already gone through the course, and there has been tons of success. If you ever have questions, don't hesitate to reach out in HelloReef Connect and one of our reefing pros will get right back to you!
thanks! HelloReef is actually by the same parent company as BRS, and I work for that parent company, so you'll see me floating in and out amongst their various brands! Thanks for the sub and watch! -Matthew
Yes and No, it’s not cheap but you don’t have to blow thousands on equipment. I fully intend to upgrade mine over the years, quite happy to do it slowly as this is a hobby not a race!
