Since you're a relatively new collector, you will be tempted to buy everything or to complete a series! Eventually you'll run out of room or money! As a vintage Barbie and Ken collector, I focus on purchasing only what I truly love or need for my dioramas! If you love the 'Ken Kouture' doll more than the negatives, then you should keep him! Switch his shoes and sunglasses with ones you like! There's also the option of resale if you don't want to keep him! Other commenters have reiterated how difficult it is to make 1/6 scale clothing look perfect!
That cut of pants and no socks is actually pretty accurate to men's fashion about 6 years ago. There's a pretty viral picture of some British guys doing that.

Yeah, I bought the suit pack for one of my dolls. I knew it wouldn’t be great, but the fabric was surprisingly thin and *very* roughly sewn. I’m debating if I just want to accept the suit as is, or go through the effort of tearing it apart with a seam ripper in order to either rebuild it or use it as a template for a suit in a better fabric.

I commented earlier on your Wednesday show that I had issues with the shirt and tie and I was so irritated when my Ken arrived and the collar wouldn't stay down. I literally looked at it for ten minutes and tossed it up on a bookshelf. It was cheap looking to me. The puffer coat didn't bother me as I had a three quarter coat like this when I lived in Chicago and it had an oversized zipper. I just wasn't feeling the thick clumsy shirt and tie. I do like his face sculpt and hair because He reminds me of Martin Fry the lead singer of the band ABC in the nineties.
I do want the K Ken earrings, the puffer jacket and the sunglasses. Not $100. I don’t like the shoes. The pattern on the suit looks ok. Idk if I want the suit. It’s good quality.

Glad to see you finally got this. FedEx handing off to USPS is what they call FedEx Smartpost and that often happens with packages for me too. As for the doll, bottom line is I am not a fan. His face freaks me out, haha! I do like most of his outfit though, the jacket I don't like, and the shoes are an odd choice. The shoes look like something that a Monster High boy doll would wear. I love the idea of Ken Kouture and I hope that the next doll will be to my liking. Definitely for $100, I gotta REALLY like the doll to want to buy it.

Definitely disrobe him to fix his whole outfit. Including the tacking under jacket lapel . Makes it all fit and look better. LOL his hair?.... well that is a real challenge.
That hair definitely needs the solid block of gel washed out of it. Might also need a light clean up trim, depending on if the wash fixes those edges or not….
I love his face. Is outfit a super cute. I do think he should have been on a made to move body for that price. I think the sunglasses are really cute but..... should have had tented,see through lens for that price as well. I agree the way they are now.They look more playline. I think the tie and collar on yours should have been sewn better. But he is a super cute doll. Great review thank you.
It doesn’t make sense that the scale of some of the clothes was too big for him. They’ve done this scale of clothes since the company started so how did that happen? 🤔 And the shoes were an odd choice. But I like the sculpt and the puffer jacket is everything!!
I love my Ken dolls but I agree, he's worth about $75. I don't understand those shoes either. I immediately chaged the shoes, the tie and put him on an articulated body as well. Other than that, I loved the rest of the fashions.

When I was redressing him, the sleeves on the shirt were rolling up when putting on the jacket… it makes me think the plastic was so prevent that in production 🤷🏻♂️
I wish Mattel would do better with shoes. I mean you look at Rainbow High, Disney ILY, and Monster High…they have great show design. And for Ken K…wow glad you showed us close details. I am not pleased with the design. I would want better hair cut, better tie for that shirt, socks, dressy shoe. I hate the coat.
I think his outfit is fantastic. But his face doesn't fascinate me with all these "aesthetic procedures", and I have a certain discomfort with dolls that look at you sideways, hahahaha. I'm still thinking about whether to buy it or not... If I buy it, it will be for the clothes alone. Let's see what the next Kens in this collection will be like! 😉
Yes, I think it is worth as a $75 doll. The puff coat is perfect, but I also agree that the tie can be thinner. It looks like the tie is choking him. I also read that the shoes might take reference to current Prada men's shoes design. About the glasses, can we have transparent plastic to simulate the lens? Overall, I like this Ken, but the quality can be better!
He's a cute doll but not worth the price, but that's how I feel about most "collector" dolls. I don't think he deserves more hate compared to other collector dolls especially since he does have various good quality pieces.
I love the coat. Maybe if the whole suit was in midnight blue like the drawing I might get him but tehre are too many things that are not my taste of look off to me. Like I love Tate headsculpt but somehow I don't like his screening and I really don't like the hairdo. Nobody wears their hair like that anymore. Indeed 100 as a price is also too much especially with shipping and tax to Europe 😞
It’s difficult to make suits for men, let alone at this size. If you try to price out what he’s wearing and get something comparative, you will find his clothing alone is worth $100. At this point there’s something up with the gel… everybody’s Ken’s bags are hanging differently when it was supposed to be more slicked back. When you switch his body the pants fit fine.
Mines getting a MTM body this week (my mom wanted to see him and asked why is his shoulder crooked?? 😂) … also really hope the rest of the dolls don’t come in blue 🙏🏽
I opened this doll and thought, UGH! what a let down and nearly returned him!!! I HATE those high water pants and those Frankinstein-esque shoes are too ridiculous for words! The collar and tie on my Ken were ok and are laying flat. His hair is a ragged nightmare in the back. What is going on with Mattel that they can't figure out how to do a man's hairstyle?? The 5 points of articulation thing really bugs me too. At least those $100 Signature Barbie's had the 22 points of articulation yoga bodies plus 2, $10 outfits in a fancy box. Anyway!! After I looked at him for quite some time I decided to keep him. I've put him back in his box and piled him on the side of my room with the rest of my, "less than enthusiastic about", purchases. It is my hope, that once I get over feeling cheated, I'll be able to set him up with my collection of the Ken dolls that I do love very much. To answer your question, is he worth $100's?? NO!
Your the first video I seen for this doll. He looks great, yes I agree with you the clothes are a bit too thick. I don't like that his pants don't go all the way down to his his feet. With the K earrings on it's side it looks like a dog. lol
You know, on one hand he’s not bad. On the other end, a 100$ new doll should not arrive looking like a used doll in the box with crazy hair and messed up fashion pieces and earrings. I feel like some of the designers don’t understand Barbie construction, and the history of Barbie doll clothing construction. You have to be very tactful about your fabric choices, and all design elements. You can’t make it exactly like real people clothes, which in small scale looks cute, but on a doll will end up looking bulky. I gasped when you said the shirt was Velcro also.lol and that there’s no faux buttons or a belt. And then we went down and he’s got no socks. I almost bought this doll, and I’m glad I saw your review because I share the same disappointments you had with him. Is he a great doll no, I think he can be. I like where they were trying to go with this doll. With a few changes I think he could’ve been iconic.

OMG, I didn’t know about the limited articulation - so disappointed! I haven’t unboxed mine yet… Glad I saw your review before I opened mine. Things I don’t like; the glasses, too-short pants, Ks all over outer coat, ugly shoes(don’t go with the rest of the outfit), lack of articulation. I agree with you on the price.💸
It looks like ken has some amazing pieces of clothing but its true that he looks like his collar strangled him lol.. his coat is nice but i would prefer a different kind of coat.. and his suit didnt look like big quality compared to the coat quality... why in the 80's 70's 60's ken had better quality of clothing. that now we have to pay hundreds of dollars and they called it special edition when back in time it was more cheaper price but more quality .. i understand now its not the same but come on his suit lloks cheap... i prefer the drawing instead of the final outfit... i think the ken doll with the big white coat from the movie looks better.. but what was his price? Some pieces of clothing looks quality but not the rest.. do better quality and we would be more okay to pay 100$. I would be happy with this doll but you have to low your price mattel.. it supposes to be Kouture... but its not Kality that we were expecting.. and its not against mattel im against all dolls companies who do the same... companies please do an adjustement of your price... its all that we ask.. we want quality but sometimes we pay a lot and we dont get that quality but we get the higher price ... make it make sense... do an adjustement thats it... Wish they stop making boxes so huge. They shold do the shoe box size similar to the Fashion Model collection dolls. I sort of like the BMR1959 Ken with the green hair more even with his hideous outfit. Actually the jacket that Ken comes with is nice though. Just pair it with better shoes and pants.
I am not rushing to get this doll. Rather wait to see what the next one in the line is going to look like. Although I do love a Tate face sculpt, this one is not doing it for me. I think the way the lips are painted reminds me too much of a Bratz face and that is not a face sculpt I care for. The clothing seems super nice, so much so, that I could live with the lack of articulation.
He’s cuter in real life than i thought compared to the stock photos. I still can’t justify getting him for 100 tho… love the coat, wish i could just get that but… the shoes are ugly and need a painted detail at least, i wish the suit was more the shade in the artwork, and the stupid bowl cut-esque hair style they gave him is an atrocity against nature and makes me wish they just did a molded hairstyle that was actually cute. And i agree on the tie and the zipper - this is exactly why sometimes “real human clothing” fabric just doesn’t work on doll scale. Sometimes we need to use those cheaper doll quality fabrics. Disappointing he has no buttons or even a belt. I actually kinda like the model muse Ken body, i like the attitude it gives him but it makes the “functional pockets” seem pointless. With that said, you honestly lose the attitude in the pose because of how big the outfit is (i don’t mind the scale of the outfit but worth pointing out). The sunglasses aren’t bad to me but just look like 90s fashion shades. I wouldn’t wear them but the 90s are kinda in now so i sort of get the inclusion. In all- glad they’re doing a line of upscale Ken dolls for collectors. This one isn’t for me but hopefully one of the others will be.
I personally like most of the outfit shoes could have been better i do like the tie the fact the shirt has no snaps or any kind of detailed closer sucks what is the point of mattel releasing dolls that are "DEFINITELY" not of the best quality we had at least 6 years ago it is really sad.
Watching you again and I had to let you know about the shoes. I believe they are inspired by Christian Louboutin. He has a boys and ladies shoe that resembles the claw like bottom. The ladies shoe claws is more pronounced.
I like the base suit. But the rest of the outfit hits all of my high fashion pet peeves (weirdly chunky things, trying to force pieces that don’t really work with each other to work, ect.). Also, the face sculpt looks weird to me. Maybe how the dimples are placed? Definitely not in the $100 category to me.
I think his hands are in a plastic wrap so they can go through the clothing without snatching it. That’s what I do to my Ken dolls because his shirt can get snag.
Hi Enzo huge fan of you and your channel now the puffer jacket is fashion but it would come of as soon as i received him also I would use my multi tool to cut the ugly bottoms off the shoes ,,,,the tops of the shoes are great the bottoms ruin them I love the suit , the shirt and tie should of been separate and made better ,,,the pants being shorter is fashion but i don't get it or like it ...the hair is a nice color but hacked ! nice face although a little effeminate the earring's are awful and cheap I would replace them with gold or diamond barbie studs lol The sunglasses are cheap solid plastic not even clear plastic id say hes worth around $60 bucks
I love the Ken doll but I am not a fan of the outfit and shoes because there is nothing couture about it. Not to be racist but The overall look is more like how asians would dress in asia when they want to look western. Just saying. Also, the face mold is really same with power couple convention set and I love it
It’s absolutely disrespectful to spend premium money on fashion dolls, only to discover upon opening them that they’re basic articulation 😑 The sculpt and fashion are decent and commendable to the designer, but articulating and changing the pose of the model should be the purchaser’s choice 🤨 And I just can’t get behind those shoes no matter what name brand they may be representing or not, but it’s a NO for me 😑 Otherwise, I think this is a very handsome model and worthy of collecting, just not at this price when there’s so many things that are not the best when looking at general doll collectors and trends 😉
I honestly think this doll is a mess!! The Tate screening is good, but in this configuration he looks ugly. If they gave him a better hair cut and style he would be more palatable. While I wanted to be excited for this line, if this is what we get for doll 1 I’m scared for doll 2. $ 100 for this is a bit high and Mattel really needs to answer what justified the price hikes. They can’t say they invested their money from the movie back into dolls, because we would have some good fabrics back into the mix, and if these price jumps are permanent then they need to put these dolls on made to move bodies right out the gate. I just spent $176 on a 17” Disney doll who was already attached to her stand and I was more impressed with that than I am with what Mattel is pumping out, I’m at the point where I am not renewing my Barbie signature membership until I see something that wows me. I honestly think they need to release the sales numbers from last year around spring time before the movie until now because what they say and what they are giving us is two very different stories
I did purchase this guy and I have to say, I was not a big fan of the shoes at all. I am also not a fan of the side eye. Also, the glasses and earrings was not my favorite. Also, he should’ve been on a articulated body for $100 . That’s just my take on him. I know a lot of people were totally in love with him, and I do enjoy having more Ken dolls. However, maybe they should make Ken a little more masculine with his clothing.
I love your videos, but you really let me down on this one. You said a couple times that you don't really know fashion, and that's pretty obvious. Everything you were "not a fan of" is high fashion "couture" (Kouture). Please take a look at a few issues of GQ. From the no belt, to the no socks, to the bunched tie, to the glasses, to the chunky shoes. So I was sad that what you were complaining about was his Couture. And you're a gay man who wears a baseball hat (who does that?) and a T-shirt all the time (nothing wrong with that), so I can see why you might not like it. In the end, I still enjoy your videos very much, they are some of my favorites, even if in this case I LOVE this doll so much, even his very classy and not kitchy blue box. I'll be back!
