I am so positively surprised by the kindness of the Korean people. We have visited Japan and thought they were already helpful and though reserved, friendly. But the Koreans just top that easily.

I left Korea last year after living there for 11.5 years and boy are these videos making me miss it! When a Korean person decides to take you under their wing, they will literally walk through a wall for you. And the food is just amazing. In this video you had 삼 (Sam = three) 겹 (Gyeop = layer) 살 (Sal = fat), in other words barbecued pork belly. I strongly recommend you to also try 갈매기살 (pronounced Kal Maygi Sal), it's another barbecue pork meat with much less fat but more tender and less chewy. Another recommendation is a mung bean pancake 빈대떡 (Bean Day Dock), which you can get with some SamGyeopSal bits mixed in (depends on the restaurant). I'd also have heartily recommended 호떡 (Ho Dock) but I see Anna beat me to the punch! Have a great time in Korea, guys. Gangwon-do on the east coast is probably the most picturesque, beautiful mountains, rivers and lakes. If you're in the area, I'd recommend a visit to my friend's microbrewery in the countryside - White Crow Brewing. Delicious beers, tonnes of room to park Trudy and a good time guaranteed. Have fun!

Watching this video this morning it occurred to me that the reasons you find the loveliest, helpful people in the countries you visit is because you both are lovely, friendly people. You take an interest in learning phrases of appreciation and the customs, cultures and foods. You both open your hearts to embrace differences. You put the love out in the universe and it comes back to you. Wishing you a continued safe and happy journey.

Another cracking adventure! It brings back memories of an entire year in Daegu. Daegu is known for having the most conservative people in Korea, so I found it very difficult to make Korean friends there. Even so, I remember the elderly generation in particular always being very generous and welcoming, and I had lots of disputes with them every time they insisted on giving up their seats for me on the subway trains.
@user-거니이이이이g
@user-거니이이이이g 9 месяцев назад
Could it be because you are sitting in the elderly seat?
@soggymoggytravels
@soggymoggytravels 9 месяцев назад
@@user-거니이이이이g No, the situtation was that I was standing on Daegu subway trains with a big bag of grocery shopping. Elderly people would jump up from their seat and start tugging my shopping bag onto their empty seat. I was always battling to insist that they stay in their seat and that I was fine holding my bag (I just didn't like to put it down on the train floor, as I was fussy about fresh food coming into contact with germs).

Koreans may not say sweet things but they like to show genuine caring by taking an action. You sneeze then they shove medicine to you without smiling because it’s just right to take care of the sick or those in need. Those unfamiliar with Korean culture used to think of my Korean mom as weird or rude. But those who are open and experienced my mom long enough found her to be the sweetest and humble person.

Daegu Metropolitan City served as the temporary capital for a short period of time before Busan was designated as the temporary capital during the Korean War. During the Joseon Dynasty, it was the administrative center of Gyeongsang-do and was the second largest city in the southern region of Joseon. Daegu Metropolitan City is a huge city that has produced the most presidents in the country. In addition, Daegu Metropolitan City is the hottest city in the country and belongs to the Daegu special type climate, and is also nicknamed 'Dafrica' because it is hotter than Africa. Daegu is hot because it has a basin type, but because it is a basin type, it is not prone to typhoons, strong winds, heavy rain, and heavy snow, making it the safest city from the weather in Korea. There is also Seomun Market, the largest market in the country. And, the second largest department store in the world is in Daegu!

hm, I would disagree. You would have to define 'best', but their culture and education system strongly creates a whole competitive, aggressive behavior that I would not categorize under 'best'. I wish it was only a personal experience of mine, but if you look at their political history, sports, and relations with countries, it would make sense.

Here's a funny story from my time in Daegu. I would sometimes hear some Korean old guys talking on their cell phones and they sound like they are in a furious argument. I would ask my Korean friends, "What's he going on about? What's he arguing about?" Their reply always be, "Oh, nothing. They're just talking." I told this to the lady who works as a dental assistant at my dentist's office and she laughed. She's from Seoul and she told that is just the Daegu style of speaking. She told that even to Koreans who aren't from Daegu it sounds like they are arguing.

Rofl, Daegu is called by ppl in Korea as Daefrica because it is exceptionally hot. The city is surrounded by mountains and hot air from solar convection has no where to go but up in normal irradiation, and people happen to be on the way up, baking them. I was born in the city of Daegu, left with my family when I was 12; now I live in Southern California. It was friggin hot growing up. Now I know why, rofl.

Koreans are generally intrinsically extremely self-motivated and competitive who drive themselves to the limit. That's why they identify more easily with people from advanced successful nations like the US and Europe. The same may not hold true for less advanced countries, which is understandable of course. That's just their culture...I find that normal.

Japan used to be like this 30 years ago. Wales too maybe around 40 years ago. In many places, it still is, but is as a Japanese person wrote under the last video, Japan has forgotten much. Much like my home country of Wales and the UK in general perhaps. I hope South Korea does not let the modern lifestyle interfere too much with what is obviously still good in South Korea. Certainly, we have improved in many ways in accepting what was once discriminated against, but as we work to eradicate what was bad, we also have to be careful to put as much energy into keeping what is good. (I have lived in Japan for the past 32 years and am originally from Wales - hence the nostalgic comparison with these two places).

Japan is still one of the only countries that successfully keep cultural structures and systems, and utilize it very well while introducing new technology at the same time. I don't know what you are talking about. "I hope South Korea does not let the modern lifestyle interfere too much with what is obviously still good in South Korea" South Korea has been one of the most quickly developed countries in the world this past couple decades ever since they've dropped their military dictatorship; a big improvement economically for South Korea, and you want that to stop?
