This was incredibly useful. I've had laser before with no issues, except the burning of my tattoo :( It helped tremendously with ingrown hairs and I am forever grateful
I am a fair skinned black woman who works in a Dermatology center. I've inquired about laser hair removal in our Cosmetic dept and I've been told I cannot get laser hair removal because I would be left with hyperpigmentation. I am so happy to know there is laser hair removal that is an option for me. My company may not offer it but I'm now on a quest to find one that does. Thanks to this video!
Have you tried natural herbal supplement and body cleanser from Dr Isibor on youtube, he helped me beat facial hair growth ( Hirsutism ) it works perfectly well no side effects and it's affordable
I have already had laser hair treatments (underarms, full leg, Brazilian bikini) & I’m so mad I didn’t get it done sooner cuz I had been considering it for years & was skeptical. So glad it has saved my sensitive legs & bikini area from shaving!
I'm so glad I got it done too! I get severe razor burns and bumps even if I prep the skin before shaving! (Like soaking in the tub and using non scented products and using a new razor everytime) nothing worked but laser hair helped me so much
As a 5-year Laser Nurse here in Los Angeles, I LOVE HOW YOU'VE EXPLAINED EVERYTHING. This is exactly what I explain to clients before they choose to undergo laser treatment. Thank you for educating your viewers.
I am a laser therapist with a degree in somatology from cape peninsula university of technology, South Africa.Thank you dr for simplifying the concept. I have learnt a lot from this video.
Wow, you are literally the most welcoming, patient, and thorough doctor I've encountered for all things medical advice online. You manage to explain things without dumbing them down while also making it so that we can understand everything said. I am in shock (and now want to switch careers and be a doctor lmao). Seriously though, thank you. These videos are great.
This has to be one of the most informative and helpful videos I’ve ever seen on RU-vid. As a woman of color, it’s is so helpful to hear the science and how that science affects women of color. All I can say is thanks.
Wow, this was extremely thorough! You seem to be a physician who has a passion for teaching because although I am in nursing school and have a science background, you did a great at making it comprehensible for a lay person. I wish that I could be seen by you. 😢
Thank you so much Janie! You're right, I absolutely LOVE teaching and learning - I see it as more than just imparting knowledge. I see it as a handing over of power, inspiration, choices, to an individual who then feels the change that you have made in them, because of what they have just learnt. That feeling - when you feel changed forever because you just learned something new- it's the most amazing buzz! 🎓
As a PCOS sufferer, I needed to see this!!!! I have been debating doing laser hair removal for a long time, but this video made it so much easier to make a decision. Thank you!!!
@@handa17 I'm a PCOS sufferer and it is the best decision ever. I got the lifetime treatment for my chin and lip at the place I go to in SC. I had to shave everyday. No more! It also cleared up the shave/ tweezer marks. My fave is baby smooth, no stubble feeling. This has boosted my self confidence. I would never let my husband touch my fave or hug people because I didn't want my chin or face to touch anyone's shoulder or face and they feel my stubble. I don't have to worry about that now. I was really feeling depressed. My sister bought the package for me and I'm so grateful. I hope this helps.
Such a breath of fresh air to hear from a black woman doctor! There are particular implications for melanated people and I'm so sick of doctor's assessing and treating skin conditions like they are all the same. Thank you Dr Simi for your videos :)
I'm part way through laser hair removal (full Hollywood). Unfortunately the UK in and out lockdowns have disrupted my sessions but even with the lack of regular sessions my results are amazing. I've had four sessions and I saw results from the 1st session, when the hair grows back it grows back very fine and usually falls out on its own. I wish I did it ages ago but back then, as the Dr said, the first type of lasers were not recommended for use on dark skin.
This was one of the most informative, clear, and succinct explanations regarding laser hair removal. I had experienced laser hair removal about 15 years ago, and felt that it was quite successful. I had also done electrolysis many years ago, and was quite unimpressed. I am getting ready to try IPL at home, but trying to be realistic about the expectations as my hair is turning gray. I am so tired of shaving, plucking and waxing. I also look at my mothers legs which have stretched follicles from shaving for many years. It is interesting to me that we as women still seem to have so few options for hair removal.
I love the way you explain things in such a clear and concise way where it’s easily understood and comprehended. I can listen to you talk all day!! I stumbled upon your channel searching for info on laser hair removal, your video covered all of the questions and concerns that I had about the process. I had to subscribed to your channel after watching this video
Hi Martha! Thank you for such a lovely comment and thank you for subscribing. I'm really pleased that you found my video helpful and I hope you continue to enjoy my content!
This was so well prepared and communicated, i love the fact that I stumbled across this channel! She looks like a very detailed and professional lady : ))
This is SUCH a good video! I found it so informative and accurate- even for myself! I agree that there is a lot of marketing mumbo jumbo when it comes to laser hair removal and a lot of confusion between the different types of lasers, IPL etc. In general I would say that electrolysis is a very underrated hair removal method. It is the only FDA approved method that guarantees permanent hair removal, whereas a lot of the lasers only tend to work by hair reduction and you will most often have to have top up treatments somewhere down the line. In general for facial hair especially to do with hormonal reasons like PCOS- I'd suggest electrolysis. But for areas like the legs, bikini line etc then laser hair removal works wonders!!
You can tell that she masters her craft. I wish I had found a doctor like her when I was going through my hair removal sessions (10 of them in total) which was a complete waste of money because to date I still have the same problem.
there are barely videos covering dermatographism when it comes to wax or laser, and i am SO GLAD you mentioned them. i had this condition for years and always been skeptical when it comes to my skin. thank you so much for addressing this, i was really surprised as i watched this vid. i hope more people talk about this condition. thanks doc ❤
Me too. I have been shaving since my late teens. I'm a professional shaver lol... I need laser but afraid... I use Tend Skin to prevent razor bumps when I shave, no one knows I shave because, no razor bumps.
@@guacgirl Hi, there is a lady with a YT channel called Hatshepsut Economics and she has a video about her PCOS journey and she talks about what she learned about it and her changes to her diet because of it that have really made a major difference. She talks alot about her struggle with the medical system and diagnosing PCOS. It's excellent and she's funny. Just trying to help. 💜
Thank you, Dr Simi for your thorough, precisely descriptive explanations, particularly during your Q&A and in the way you articulated the “hair biology” and especially in addressing our darker skin tones and exactly which laser type to request at the salon. I am positively well-informed now. I feel invigorated and empowered X
Ive watched quite a few videos on laser hair removal and this video is by farrrr the most informative and useful one! You literally covered EVERYTHING and gave us such good tips to keep in mind, thank you so much!!
As a truly hairy fairy in the past, I did have some doubts due to the mentioned popular beliefs about cancer and infertility. Finally, a gynecologist and a laser specialist I visited in another town (thus she knew I wouldn't be her client, no bias) reassured me. Now I'm super happy to have smooth legs, arms, armpits and belly along with the bikini area (I'm a fair-skinned Slavic gal with some thicker, darker body hair than usual running in the family and a shaving+waxing history) with the effect having lasted over 5 years so far. The only challenging areas remain those on my face and elbows, which require a regular approach. Wish I could go back a decade or two and show both of my middle fingers to the bullies or extended family members who scolded me for shaving.
@Stim Roe It definitely was in my case, given the hair and skin parameters (no side effects whatsoever in 8 years or so). However, you might want to consult a healthcare professional if you have moles (they are usually not covered during the session), extra pigmentation, etc. In my country, laser beauticians are usually qualified in healthcare and ask you tons of questions before the treatment to minimize risks.
Omg im so glad i came across your channel. Finally i can get my questions answered from someone who can 100 percent relate and understand because of our melanated skin.❤
I am so happy that you posted about laser hair removal! I have been battling unwanted hair for years!! I have tried many different types of hair removal methods: waxing, shaving, hair removal cream, laser. This video is so helpful and can prevent people from getting scammed by those clinics who use IPL instead of actual laser! Thank you!
Thank you! I'm honestly so pleased that you found it helpful. Remember though that I'm not against IPL- it can be used for hair removal- I just disagree with the marketing of it as 'laser' that's all. 😊
Why waste money on laser hair removal when surely is still going to grow, I understand exactly what you passing through because Living with facial hair growth hirsutism due to PCOS was a big mess not until I came across Dr Isibor on RU-vid, the herbal doc whose herbal medication and body cleanser finally cured me and restored my life after 5 years of battling with it, no side effects and very affordable and works in removing hair completely

Great video! My last laser hair removal treatment was a year ago. It worked great on my legs, however, I also had it done on my face and the hair grew back thicker (paradoxical hypertrichosis). Unfortunately, I only found out about this phenomenon more recently. I did some reading and found out that the chance of hair growing back thicker after laser is most common in the face esp. the chin and neck (which is what happened to me). I have medium-dark skin and thick black hair. I hope to start electrolysis soon and I am beginning to think that people with similar hair and skin to me should be recommended electrolysis for their face instead of laser. If you do a video on electrolysis could you talk more about the literature surrounding this? Thank you :)
As a 27yo 1/4 Filipino man, I'm actually darker than my dad who was half lol I'm going in for a consultation soon and I found this to be extremely helpful and I feel well prepared! There arent enough metns reviews on YT, so I'll be documenting my experience. I learned that IPL's wont really work super wll on me and that laser hair removal/reduction would be the sager option. Glad I decided to do my research because it allowed me to come across this video. Thank you, sis! 🙏🙏
I recommend wearing baggy clothes 2-3 days, clothes made from natural materials, anything that is not in close contact with the skin, like leggings or skinny jeans. Seriously! 😳
Thank you so much for all the details. This really helped me make my mind and go into it with confidence without worrying much about the side effects. Thanks again!
Thank you for the most thorough lesson in lasers and hair removal, and even mentioning at home IPL devices. Truly educational. You’ve given enough to make actionable decisions.
You are the first doctor that I can sit and listen from the first start until the end without skipping ❤️❤️❤️ I love how you explain and the information that you have 😍
@@justanotherpersonxo people of color have to use the tag laser. I did it 3 years ago session of 8 and loved it. I did another round recently and I always used yag.
You are a master at explaining this, I've learned so much! I've been turned away for IPL for having skin that was too dark on the Fitzpatrick Scale but I was a great candidate for laser hair removal so this was informative.
Thanks a lot for this very detailed and helpful video! I’m going to take my first session of laser hair removal tomorrow and I feel more confident about the operation thanks to you Doctor 👩⚕️
Your videos have helped me so much, I have PCOS and have what i guess to be at least mild hirsutism (thank you for giving me the name for it, I never knew) I've always been apprahensive about laser treatments, but this has given me a lot of answers. thank you for your videos, they are super informative and a blessing.
This video is do informative. I had my 1st session today for Brazilian laser removal …. not painful but uncomfortable. No bad reaction so far. I have 7 more sessions to go. Thank you so much for the information.😊
Dr Adedeji, thank you for being a representation of beautiful black women educating other black women about their skin which has been so overlooked in research and popular culture. I appreciate you, and I can see others do as well. Could you please do a video on electrolysis? You mentioned it briefly, but I'd like to know more about it because the risks of laser hair reduction outweigh the benefits for me.
Hi Angel. Thank you for your appreciation and support. I also appreciate every single one of you who watch my content and take time out of your busy lives to comment on my videos. Thank you for your video suggestion too!
Wow! This was great. I normally fast forward longer videos, but I listened to the entire video and even rewound a few times. I feel like I now have the insights that I need in order to make an informed decision about the treatment. Now, to find a Dr as informed and thorough as you in my area. Thank you ❤
Thank you so much for this video. It was very informative, and I learned some new things. I especially appreciated the note that laser hair removal is more akin to laser hair reduction. So few people realize *IT'S NOT PERMANENT*. I was fortunate to work with someone who was transparent about that at the outset. It helped me set more realistic expectations.
Trying to open up my Medical Spa and I just took a class on laser hair reduction. Then I came home and watched your video. Girl!!! You rock!!! I was a bit confused in my class but now I have been saved. Thank you so much. 👏👏.
You are a blessing, thanks! Can you please do a similar video about (head :) ) hair straightening procedures(like the Brazilian or Japanese straightening?) Is it toxic to the body? Can it cause cancer? Should it be avoided? How about nursing and pregnancy safety?
This video timing is PERFECT because I have my laser consolation next weekend ! Now I have so much knowledge regarding laser and feel ready, safe and my questions ready for my appointment! Thank you so much your videos are absolutely helpful you’re amazing 🤗🤩✨
This was very informative, tysm! I'm 25 with PCOS and have been getting laser hair removal for the past year and I love my results! I'm so used to how I look now that I only remember that life when I look at old photos/videos
So much knowledge packed into one youtube video, thank you so much for sharing this. Not only I got answers to my dermatological questions, but also good dose of nerdiness.
Thanks for your this highly educated video ….. our new tutor for IPL in South Wales is DIABOLICAL !! ….she didn’t even know what the one particular filter was for ???? Thanks very much 👍
