Have you ever wondered what life is really like in Germany? I decided to find out by chatting with expats who were brave enough to make the move. In this video, I uncover the truth behind the pros and cons of living abroad. From speaking with foreigners who’ve experienced it all, I reveal whether life is truly better in Germany.

Many of those impressions are *very* specific to Munich, the rest of Germany can be very different. Both in a positive and in a negative way.

@@barbarusbloodshed6347 Not sure what you think of "Ruhrpott" but I have lived there for about 10 years and it was pretty alright. In my experience people who find a lot of places to be "dangerous" have either been really unlucky or they have a tendency to get into trouble themselves... or they've never actually been to said place and just heard scary stories. Like I now live in Berlin close to Warschauer Straße/Brücke and some people will be like "oh no don't go there. it's so dangerous!" and I'm like what are you even talking about? Same with places like Kottbusser Tor in Kreuzberg or Neukölln in general. A couple of homeless punks or dudes selling weed aren't going to shiv you for walking by. Some people just live way too sheltered lives and freak out the moment they see signs of poverty or minor criminial activity.

This is so strange for me... I am German, but lived 24 years in the US, and recently returned home. I so understand the interviewed opinions, i do feel a bit as a foreigner here as well. The bureaucracy and lack of digital solutions is really a pain. 😅 I mean... you may have the option to fill out a form out online, just so they print it out in their office and it gets processed the old way anyway. 😂 One thing is for sure: Shit happens everywhere, but it is MUCH safer here than anywhere in the USA. Fun video, thank you for posting.

Als jemand, der seit fast 10 Jahren in Spanien lebt, kann ich sagen, dass es hier tausend mal schlimmer ist als in Deutschland. Totally agree! We (i.e. Germans) are a bunch of complainers and there are quite a few of things to complain about. But on the whole, we have it pretty good. Anyone who has ever lived abroad for a long time can understand that, I think. And on a side note: I think it's good to point out one's faults because acknowledging what's wrong is the first step to improvement.

In my opinion, as a German, it is ok country to live, but not to enjoy life. Any time I was in Brazil or Italy I made friend super quickly, and they are really good friends, including my Italian boyfriend... In Germany I only am friends good friends with people with Turkish background etc. I do think my German German friends are way too strict and cold-hearted, I do not feel so well around them. I dont connect with typical German mentality, sometimes can be really harsh and brutal mentality... I love Italian way of living, you invite people over for pasta pizza, just to have a nice evening, you dont have to become friends or best friends, but just be a bit more spontaneous and friendly. A smile goes a long way.

My wife and I spent September 2011 in NYC ( Manhattan). In 2013 we spent September in Charlottenburg-Berlin. Germany was a better experience. Why? There was this feeling of physical security and an amazing history that was not self-congratulatory. If every country owned its history like Germany does, the world would be a better place. If you can respect a country then I respect Germany. PS I am only speaking for myself but my wife does not vehemently disagree. Germany could be a great place to migrate to if weren't so ducking racist. Our tendency to stay for our own and not really talking to strangers if that can be avoided (we consider that impolite) leads us to reinforce prejudices. That is of course not true for everybody or everywhere but in average we are less open to strangers. If, for example, you have no contact to people from Turkey or Syria you just make up how these people are in our mind or what we see in TV... Therefore regions with the lowest rate of foreigners are the most afraid of "Überfremdung" ... Yes, I am looking at you Sachsen, but not exclusively.

What you could do better, ask the people not about Germany but about Munich. I think it is somewhat intellectually dishonest to present the people the presupposition that Munich is a model for Germany. Germany is extremely diverse when it comes to states and the regions within those states. Especially when it comes to culture, northern German culture and southern German culture mostly just share the language which is thought in school. But i have to admit, it is interesting to see the reactions and opinions of this very diverse group people you present in your videos, even though they are, i think, skewed buy the premise hidden in your question. I believe you can do both, be honest and make money on RU-vid. I even think that the service you provide would improve by trying. Especially for people which watch your videos and then decide to move to Germany. I mean, even the level and kind of bureaucracy is different in other states or cities... Either way, please excuse my little rant, i hope you continue and take some of my criticism to heart. Thanks.
@marge2548
@marge2548 Год назад
@dems42blubb Well, on the one hand, you are right about cultural differences - says a native Northern German. On the other hand, I noticed that in general, in the videos, the things people like about Germany tend to be the things we like about ourselves as a country, while the things they dislike are the things we complain about more or less constantly, too. So, on the very superficial or general level of the questions asked, the approach seems to work quite well. ;) Especially as nobody knows whether those asked about Germany in general do only know Munich or have travelled the country extensively. ;) In general I don't see these interviews as an attempt of a representative picture or Germany. This won't work as most people asked are either expat students or rather young people, maybe shortly after graduation. Which form a very distinct class of foreigners with certain special problems but also with certain benefits. I find it quite an entertaining peek at some aspects of German life. No more, no less. :)

Moved to Germany 4 years ago for work - worst decision in my life. Quality of life is bad. Trash everywhere, drunk people on the streets, zero flexibility in literally all aspects of life. Weather sucks. Internet connection sucks. Nearly impossible to find an apartment. Generally rude people. Actively trying to get out and I’m far from the only one. Germany was great 30 years ago. Maybe. Today? Nah.

If they want to make friends, they must have a good command of Deutsch; the Germans hate when people speak English, French, Spanish in their own country, which is the biggest country in Europe in terms of population and economy.
