Je suis mexicain, je suis né à la capitale donc on peut penser que j'aimerais plus Paris sachant que c'est une grosse capitale aussi mais, après avoir fait des études à Lille, je suis tombé amoureux de la ville et aujourd'hui si vous me posez la question, je dirais aussi Lille complètement même si j'adore Paris. Lille ma ville, tu me manques. Gros câlin Easy French !!

Je suis né à Istanbul . En même temps j'habite à là bas. J'ai fait Erasmus à Lille 3. Mais j'ai adoré à Lille et les Lillois. Ils sont super sympas . La ville est très dinamique. Villeneuve d'Ascq c'est extraordinaire. La nature , les lacs les gens qui sont chaleureux ... J'ai visité bcp des pays et ses villes . Mais Lille est innoubliable pour moi . C'est top 😊

Bravo Josh! Tu as fait un excellent travail. Les passants ont raison. La taille de Lille est parfaite; c'est pas trop grand et c'est pas trop petit. Pour moi personnellement, vivre sur Paris est hors de question.

Lille’s Vieille Ville is one of the most charming cobbled spaces in all northern France. It’s astonishing to think that at one point in the not too distant past (1960s/70s) there were mutterings about razing what was then a slum and starting again! It could’ve ended up as ugly as Dunkirk, Le Havre or Brest! Thank Heavens they spared it. 🇫🇷

@@javierlorful And Le Havre, and Calais, and Dunkirk. In St Malo and Rouen they made a decent attempt to resurrect the blitzed cities as they were. In the others they, alas, opted for the brutalist/functionalist alternatives.

I did my master degree in Lille city and used to visit my friend in Paris during vacation. So comparatively lille city drizzles always and the environment is so quiet. Paris on the other hand is always busy and a sparkling centre. 😊

J'ai beaucoup aimé regarder cette vidéo. Certains des personnages de cette vidéo disent que Lille est bien parce que la ville est plus petite que Paris. Un de mes amis qui vit à Fukuoka, au Japon, dit aussi que Fukuoka est un meilleur endroit où vivre que Tokyo. C'est le même.

C'était très intéressant de regarder. J'aimerais bien connaître Lille pour la beauté de la ville mais aussi la proximité de la frontière belge. Je me sens extrèmement identifie avec Europe, surtout le centre. Ça sera pour le fait d'être allemand et de parler les langues allemand, français, anglais, néerlandais ( mais aussi espagnol) Je m'y sentirais très á l' aise.

Je suis allé en France il y a un peu plus d'un mois et je suis presque allé à Lille, enfin, mais mes plans ont changé à la dernière minute et j'ai pas pu y aller malheureusement. Bon, ce sera pour une prochaine fois j'espère. Au moins avec cette vidéo vous m'avez fait connaître l'avis de quelques locaux et un peu l'architecture de la ville, qui me paraît semblable à celle de Bruxelles (peut-être je me trompe). Donc vidéo très intéressante, merci, et bon travail de la part de Josch ! P. S. : Je suis un chilien qui a vécu dans le Sud-Ouest et je garde toujours la France dans mon cœur.

The architecture of Lille and Brussels *is* very similar. I would say though, that in Lille’s Vieille Ville one has a more impressive, integrated cluster of pulchritude than in the rather patchy Brussels, which, aside from the glorious Grand Place, doesn’t have that extensive, consistently beautiful Vieille Ville, but just the odd outstanding street here or there.

Thank you for an excellent video! Very informative. What are your thoughts about Expat seniors living in France? As retired educators (we helped a new school open in Lviv - Aug-Dec), we are exploring Poland (Dec-Jan), Estonia (Feb), and possibly France. Lille has more healthcare centers than anywhere, I've heard. Paris is beautiful and walkable. Nice too looks beautiful and welcoming. But, Nantes looks amazing also. We seek a walkable, affordable, and comfortable place to call home. My wife Cindy has MS, so calm is a required component. I grew up in Los Angeles, working & driving 24/7, so the European pace is very attractive. Thank you. Dean & Cindy

Lille is a lovely city though really cold and gloomy in winter! (like Paris) The weather is much nicer in Nice (but really hot in summer). Middle size provincial cities like Nantes, Bordeaux and Toulouse are very popular in France. Many French people want to settle there! Nantes and Bordeaux are close to the ocean, which is nice.

Chouette vidéo ! Petite critique, je trouve assez dommage de s'être limité au vieux Lille. C'est joli c'est sûr et je comprends qu'il était plus simple de rester dans le même coin mais c'est le quartier des boutiques pour bourgeois. Il aurait été intéressant d'avoir le point de vue d'autres personnes, y compris pour leur façon de parler et pour avoir une vision moins biaisée de la ville. Peut-être pour une prochaine fois ?

Oui les Lillois sont sympas en général. La ville est assez jolie avec une architecture qui rappelle un peu Bruges ( en Belgique). D'ailleurs le lien est facile à faire avec la Belgique : la gare de Lille s'appelle "Lille-Flandre" petite restauration à des prix raisonnables et hôtellerie idem.

Rolling down the comments before writing something similar. Of course 11 years is a long time, but many people still speak with a thick foreign accent after 60 years. Interesting to know what brought her to emigrate.

@@markbr5898 Lille is connected to London in 1h20 by about 12 trains a day. Technically, she’s abroad. Really, she’s just a few stops up the track from her home town.

But the salient point stands: any immigrant to any country speaking a foreign language from immigrant’s country of birth/upbringing, who, after 11 years is not able to fluently read, write and speak the foreign language, is a disgrace to themselves. There are no excuses in such a case. Therefore, that the Londoner spoke word perfect French made perfect sense given those 11 years. Why the original poster expressed surprise at this I’m at a loss to fathom.

Quelle vidéo intéressante. Je voudrais retourner à Paris encore ce printemps pour prendre des cours de français mais j'ai été regarder pour une autre école dans une région différente et maintenant, c'est possible que j'irai à Lille pour mes études. Merci beaucoup pour l'inspiration.

I was just here for their monthly street market, and there is a problem with there being 0 toilets. I was afriad to drink any more coca cola , as it was becoming very uncomfortable.Toilets are in the Westfield shopping centre but are 1 Euro. Saw a fair bit of street pissing because of this. Same with Paris and possibly most of France. Will pack Tena Lady next trip

I had high hopes for Biarritz but came away severely underwhelmed and of the opinion it’s a mess of a place saved by a world class beach. Bayonne, however, is a delight. Give me the gorgeous colours and old buildings of its Vieille Ville over its, ostensibly, flashier (but really just underwhelming on closer inspection) neighbour, Biarritz. The real ritziness, for me, is in the unassuming, French-Basque capital. Its streets are eminently strollable. Unlike Biarritz, its visual appeal is charming and interesting. Sure, it doesn’t have Biarritz’s fabled plage, but who cares, when you have 2 rivers for the price of one (Nive; Adour) converging in Bayonne. Ultimately, the clincher for me is Bayonne feels like it has more soul. Biarritz may be good for a throwaway summer fling, but Bayonne is the keeper.

To be fair, ‘snobs’ are not exclusive to Paris. I have a theory; every human being who ever lived is a ‘snob’ about someone else. Bar none. We all rank ourselves, consciously and unconsciously, on the scale of social hierarchy, and I’ve yet to meet a single person who has ever ‘ranked’ themselves on the bottom rung of that social ladder.
