I love to watch Russian series: without them I would’ve never become fluent in Russian. So I got curious (and a bit skeptical) when I heard LingoPie promise “Discover a brand new way to get to language fluency with Lingopie.” So I signed up and spent a couple of days playing around with the app, and the result is this LingoPie review.

Been a lingo pie member for a while, you just motivated me to get using it again. They have full Russian movies as well but for the Netflix linked content you have to be a Netflix member as well.

Good review Ari. I heard of LingoPie before. For me, it probably wouldn't be worth because I only watch TV a couple hours on the weekend. However, I did watch Ekaterina on a different streaming site. But I found myself, saying, "put on the subtitles, you are trying to learn Russian!" I won't say the site name because I don't want RU-vid to get mad at me. But because I had watched quite a few Korean and Japanese horror movies in my early 20s' it was easier to keep up with the English subtitles. Also, having previous knowledge with Russian using 'Living Language' set in high school has helped me to spot certain grammatical errors with Duolingo and other language software. More than once, I was like wait, a minute that's not right. I always try and double check the grammar. No language app or software will be 100% correct at least not yet anyway!

Glad you liked the review. Yes, I think it all depends on personal needs and what someone has found to be working well in the past. Subs are indeed necessary otherwise for most people as it's just too frustrating otherwise.

O problema é que eu esqueço certas palavras e expressões que aprendo, aí dificulta a aprendizagem. :( Tento aprender imitando e ouvindo, apenas! :/

It will be easier to remember them if you repeat these words in conversation.

I checked out Lingopie just the other week and the selection of Russian content that didn't require also having a Netflix subscription seemed to be very small indeed, certainly nowhere near 100 hours. Despite the neat features with bilingual subtitles and learning aids etc. etc. it didn't seem to be worth the subscription simply because there was so little material.

That was one of my concerns as well, so I asked them and they replied they're upgrading it to 300 hours soon. With that said, 1 hour of regular series is probably 5 to 10 hours worth of "Lingopieing" the same series.

@@LearntheRussianLanguage What they told me about two weeks ago was "Currently, we have around 10 titles for the Netflix Russian Selects. However, we are planning on adding more in the next few days." I had also asked them how much content they had that didn't require Netflix and they didn't even answer the question. I was left strongly suspecting that the non-Netflix selection was limited to the half-dozen or so short films that I was able to see on the Russian content page.

I had LingoPie last year and left due to that reason. Your suspicions are correct. Very limited Russian series. And as far as it looks they’ve added nothing new even though they gave me the same answer last year: “more content coming soon! “ I am curious about the Netflix options. Which I knew specifically what’s available thru Netflix

@@LearntheRussianLanguage what you mean by that comparison, 1 hour to 5-10 hours?
